IPhone 5 iOS 7/Maverick Wifi Sync Not Working

Since updating to Maverick on my MacBook Pro Retina I have not been able to sync my iPhone 5 over wifi with iTunes.. It's amazing how used to a feature you get and it's actually really aggrevating not being able to do this now.
It has worked fine ever since I got the both devices, and yet after upgrading to iOS7 and Maverick wifi sync does not work. Before iTunes update 11.1.3 my phone at least showed up under "devices". Now it does not show up at all in iTunes unless plugged in via USB.
I've tried rebooting routers, forgetting networks, checking and unchecking "wifi sync" on iTunes, and even going to a different locaiton (i.e. a different router) which also used to work fine and same issues. When I go to Settings>General>iTunes Wifi Sync on my phone and tap "Sync Now" it just says "looking for my MacBook Pro"...and does nothing.
I have seen varying posts about this feature not being available if you opted out of the iCloud or something with iOS7 but can't find a definitive answer. So, is it something which is definitiely no longer available with the new upgrages, or does anyone have a cure?
Many thanks.

This is so unfortunate.  Holmdel, I would also report this to Apple to have it on record.
You can make Apple aware of this at: http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, and in the meantime you'll have to use AssistiveTouch.  Hopefully when more people come forward, they will fix this bug in the next update.

  • Wifi Sync not working on iOS 6 and iTunes 10.7 with iPhone 4S

I am running Windows 7 64-bit but WiFi Sync is not working on either my iPhone 4S or my wife's iPhone 4S.  Worked fine before upgrading.  All settings look correct in iTunes 10.7 and on our iPhones 4S's.  Already tried uninstalling iTunes and all associated Apple programs (Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, etc) and reinstalling iTunes but no help.  Temporarily disabling Norton Firewall did not help.  If I hook up either of our two 4S phones via USB wire, they Sync and Backup fine.  Just WiFi Sync not working.  Can't initiate sync from iPhones because button is ghosted stating it is waiting for PC to be present.  Phones don't show up under Devices in iTunes unless hard-wired via USB cable.  Any suggestions?

I am getting sync issues too (although on OSX) - seems like others are getting issues too:

  • ITunes WiFi sync not working after Lion reinstall

    Hello all,
Here is the situation. Wifi syncing was working superbly well for both my iPhone and my iPad. They could be upstairs while I was downstairs in my office and I would see them both in iTunes and could sync them at will. Great stuff!
Until yesterday. I bought a new hard drive for my Macbook Pro, installed Lion on it and imported all of my apps and settings on it. Everythings works fine EXCEPT for wifi syncing. When I plug my devices to the USB cable I see them appear in the iTunes sidebar but I soon as I disconnect them, POOF! They're gone!
The checkbox IS checked. I tried unchecking it, syncing via USB, rechecking it an resyncing to no avail. I just can't get the darned thing to work again!
Both devices and the laptop have been restarted multiple times.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Can't believe it was so simple.
I just restarted my Mac and everything came back to normal.
Ok then sorry for the disturbance, move along, nothing to see here.

  • Wifi sync not working on iPhone 5s with iOS 8.0.2

I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.0.2, and iTunes 12.0.1.26. Sync via wifi doesn't work (with one partial exception[1]). USB sync works fine, but when the phone isn't physically connected via a USB cable, iTunes doesn't know it exists. On the phone, in Settings/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, "Sync Now" is disabled and it says "Sync will resume when '[my computer name]' is available". It's got the correct computer name.
In the online help, I find the following claim:
When the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes.
In my case, the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, and the iOS device does not appear in iTunes. I had a previous iPhone 5S which was able to sync via wifi to the same desktop computer on the same network. That one may have been iOS 7 (I can't check because it tried to learn to swim).
The checkbox in "Summary" is checked:
I tried unchecking it, applying, checking again, and applying again. I then restarted both iTunes and the phone.
[1] Partial Exception: I found an "answer" on here where you turn off three different random features on the iPhone, turn them back on, reboot the iPhone and the computer, and then WiFi sync does actually works -- exactly once. Now it's disabled again. All that fussing around was enormously more hassle than just finding a USB cable; if I wanted to spend half an hour performing 10-second tasks I'd have bought another Motorola product.
Is there a solution that works permanently, or do we just wait for a fix in a future OS revision?

On your iPhone 4S go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Click on Wi-Fi to both disable and enable it. If you are still unable to enable this setting it may be possible that the iOS7 update did not take properly.

  • Wifi syncing not working since upgrading to iOS 6

Has anyone had an issue with and found a solution to wifi syncing after upgrading to iOS 6?  I have not been able to get either my iPhone 4 or 3d gen iPad to sync since upgrading last week.  I have the latest version of iTunes. I've tried disabling wifi syncing and the closing/restarting iTunes.  I've tried turning my iMac's wifi off and on.  The devices show, but will not automatically wifi sync.
    Thanks in advance!

I have a variation on that problem.  I upgraded my iPhone 4s and my new iPad to iOS6.  No problems synching the new iPad to iTunes wirelessly.  My iPhone will not sync wirelessly unless I turn it off, then on again.  However, if the phone goes out of wireless range, then returns, it will no longer sync wirelessly to iTunes.  Otherwise, the wireless connection appears to be working, e.g., I can connect to the internet.

  • ITunes WiFi Sync not working with iPhone 6, but works with iPad 1

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad 1. The iPhone 6 runs iOS 8 and the iPad 1 runs iOS 5.
Yet, the iPad works fine using iTunes WiFi Sync with my Mac, while my iPhone never works with it. Whenever I forcibly make it sync by clicking on the device in iTunes and on Sync, it gets ejected/removed from iTunes. This doesn't happen with my iPad.
Is this a problem specific with the iPhone 6? Anyone know what I can do to fix it?
If I uncheck and re-check the WiFi Sync setting for my iPhone 6, then it syncs fine the first time again. But it doesn't work after that. So the device is definitely on the correct WiFi network at least.

It continues to be UNREAL how Apple will release iOS software without testing it.  Yep.  They BROKE WIFI SYNC.  It no longer works on my iPhones or iPads either.  UNREAL!!!!!!

  • ITunes wifi sync not working with iOS 7.1

  • Itunes wifi sync not working for iPhone 4s ?

i have a MBP 15'' , 3 iPhone 4s , 1 iPad 3 but only MY iphone 4s is not syncing over wifi , it syncs via usb cable but not when i connect to charger and connected to wifi or even when i press the itunes wifi sync in the settings it syas looking for MBP and does not sync , whereas all my other gadgets like ipad and iphones automatically sync as soon as they are in wifi zone . i tried everything like reeboting my iphone and quitting and reopening my itunes but nothing helped checked and unchecked the "sync with this iphone over wifi" several times still nothing then even tried changing the ip address but no , then even restored my iphone from backup even then nothing helped , and even did all the obvious things like connected bluethooth , used iphone remort for itunes , and even did homesharing of itune library through iphone , nothing helped so if anyone knows how to get this straight please let me know .. and yes i even checked the iphone and itunes version they are both up to date

hey kasey, i dont know why you have to do that or why does it not work even with all the right settings but what i know is after that process that i just explained above your problem will be gone and iphone will wifi sync as soon as you enter the wifi zone
the cause of the problem might be ( what i think is ) when you update you iphone software directly from iphone instead through your computer you get this problem because for me also it was working finely until i updated to 5.1.1 from iphone itself and wich caused me so much trouble, well now i have installed IOS6 and working great .evean if you did not update your iphone and still got this problem can be due to the reason that sometimes your iphone or computer cahnges some internet settings on theri on for their best connection which might cause confusion between 2 gadgets .

  • IOS 5 wifi sync not working on iPad 2

Just installed IOS 5 on my iPad but, its not working. Ive ticked the wifi sync option in itunes, plugged it into the wall, even unplugged and restarted my wifi, restore ios firmware and even reinstall itunes..Ive tried everthing and i just cant get it to work. When i try it just has the "Sync Now" option greyed out and says "Sync will resume when <computer name> is available. When I detach my cable during the syncing iTunes just can't detect my iDevice...Help SOS..

I have the same issue, and it seems to be fairly common. I don't think they have all the bugs worked out of WiFi sync yet. After reading on another forum, try the steps below, they work for me but usually only once. I then have to do it again to get another sync.
    1. Turn off the iPad, close iTunes on your computer.
    2. Restart iTunes, then turn your iPad on and try the sync again.

  • To Apple engineers: Home sharing and wifi sync not working after fresh install

Have been using wifi sync and home sharing on my Macbook 5,1 since its early debut.
Since Macbook 5,1 is old i am using it to stream MP4 files to my Apple TV.
The functionality has been working fine throughout the OSX iterations; then came Mavericks.
Now my iTunes library will not sync with Apple TV3, nor will my iPhone 5/iPad 3 wirelessly sync with my iTunes library.
For some reason since upgrading to Mavericks the thing wont work under normal boot.
Restarting in Safe mode solves the problem. Assuming it was some erroneous configuration i went through troubleshooting steps to try and resolve it.
First i uninstalled any third party apps.
Then i repaired, went through Maintenance and Cleaning of the system using Onyx
Then i tried manually removing third party boot kexts from the System Library and user Library
Then i tried reinstalling OSX via the recovery partition (cmd+r on boot time)
Finally i tried a full system erase and reinstall via an external bootable Mavericks USB.
After all these steps the problem persists.
There should be no hardware failure since it works fine in Safe mode and doing a clean install verifies that there are no third party conflicts with the system since iTunes was executed immediately after booting up for the first time.
This raises the concern that there seems to be some sort of system kext misconfiguration by the Apple engineers.
When executing iTunes the following errors are being displayed in the system log (via Console):

  • Wifi Sync not working with Windows 7 64bit

Hi, having an issue with wifi sync for some reason.  I am running Win 7 64bit, and I have tried everything on these forums with not luck.  It is not my router because it works on another computer with no problem.  I have enabled all ports, syncserver, etc. and nothing is working.  I have done a complete uninstall, registry clean, and reinstall with no luck.  I have noticed though on my computer when I check the box to allow my wifi sync to be enabled, all the box says is "Sync with this Iphone over....."  It does not say "sync with this Iphone over wifi".  The other computer I tried wifi sync with that worked said "sync with this Iphone over Wifi"  Any thoughts on what would cause my itunes to not display the full message?

Forgot to mention I am using Itunes 10.6.0

  • Wifi syncing not working

My iPhone 4 has the latest version of iOS5, my 27" iMac has also been upgraded to the latest version of Lion.   The iMac is hardwired to my home network and the phone is connected to the same network via wifi and is connected to power.   I have checked (and applied) the box in iTunes for wifi syncing and have initiated wifi synching seversal times on the phone under the appropriate settings page.     The phone displays "looking for 27" iMac" for several minutes and then nothing... no error message or anything but the "last sync" is listed on the phone as the October 13 (the day I Updated the phone to iOS5).   Anybody have a clue as to what is going on?

Ok so paranoia does win out ... I went into iTunes and selected my last local backup which was 11.11.11 and restore from there and I am back in action .... although that does mean I loose a ton a records over the last couple of days in my apps but that appears to be the only method of getting my iPhone back in sync. Sometimes I guess the latest stuff isn't worth the hassle. Very annoyed but not enough to go android. : )
Also for a note to anyone that will read this. You can manually backup your iPhone to iTunes by turning off the iCloud backups and after that is fully complete then you can restart the iCloud backups again. Not that it would save you but if you loose your phone or it gets destroyed you'll have a more recent backup .... but if your iTunes decides not to recognize your phone then you are just screwed.
On reflection I believe that iCloud would work perfectly if you had only purchased your music through iTunes store ... me I have about 10 gigs ripped from my long dead CD collection and audio books so this is the limiting factor. You must conform all your music, audio, movies through iTunes then iCloud would be all the backup you need.
Oh well tired of playing techie 11.11.11 will just have to do.

  • Wifi sync not working after ios6

I have upgraded all my devices to latest ios6 and now wifi sync does not work. I have 2 devices syncing to windows Xp laptop which are not syncing. I also have an additional iPad syncing to my iMac. None of them are working as of late. Tried rebooting everything and wifi sync is intermittent at best. Bottom line, seems like an ios6 problem, but not finding a lot of help. Any suggestions?

Ironically, updating to iOS 6.0.1, at least for now - seems to have made WiFi sync more reliable for me on my iPad 3, and my MacBook running OS X 10.7.4 and the latest version of iTunes.
if you have quit iTunes, rebooted your devices and restarted the computers and that didn't help, this is what I would suggest next ... And in no particular order.
Turn WiFi off on your iPad, restart it and then turn WiFi on again.
Try rebooting your router. Even though you may have Internet connectivity with all devices, rebooting the router might just work anyway.
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes, select the iPad under devices, click on the Summary Tab and uncheck Sync this iPad over WiFi. Click on Apply in the lower right corner. Sync your iPad. After the sync completes, go back to the Summary Tab. Click on Sync this iPad over WiFi. Click on Apply and wait for the changes to be applied. Quit iTunes and disconnect the iPad.
Restart your computer, launc iTunes again and see if it works now,
