Iphone 5 is beeping when I connect it for charging

iphone 5 is beeping when I connect it for charging. whats' up with that??

I use my 5S for my alarm each night only heard this for the first time a few days ago. took me about 10 minutes to find the beep as it was extremely quiet however discovered it was infact the phone. I flicked the mute button and I've never heard it since. It seems to only be audible when not on mute, given that its so quiet it probably does it 24/7 just had never noticed.
