IPhone 5 keeps shutting off

About a month ago my iPhone 5 turned itself off. It does this now a couple times a day and I have to hold down both the menu button and the power button for almost 10 seconds to have it restart. Lately, I go to take the phone out of standby and it shows a power cable conneted to the iTunes logo. I still have to hold down both the menu button and the power button for almost 10 seconds to have it restart. The phone holds its charge and I make sure I am charging the phone everyday. Not sure what it is causing this. This morning when the power cable and the iTunes logo appeared I plugged the phone into my computer and opened itunes. It found the phone, but said it needed to repair and install everything from a previous backup. So I did that hoping that would solve the shut down issue, but it did not. Has anyone heard of this happening. The phone had been working great. Any thoughts?

Howdy, seabass069.
Seems like you've tried most everything that I could think to try, short of restoring the phone as a new device, rather than restoring from a backup, as the problem could be returning with it.

  • Wife's iPhone keeps shutting off randomly and does it even when on calls, restarts and has a dark line in center of the screen then the apple logo. At times it does it several times or won't power up, and the iPhone4 is only five months old. What do we do

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it!

  • 2G iPhone keeps shutting off

I'm having problems with my iPhone constantly shutting down. As long as it's on a charger, plugged into any computer, or it's in use, then it works perfectly fine. But as soon as I disconnect and leave the phone idle for more than a minute or so...it will shut down. The only way for it to come back on is to plug it back up to any computer or to any charger. It's so frustrating because this happens all throughout the day...and I can't keep touching the phone just so it can stay on.
I have taken it to an Apple store, but all they keep doing is restoring it. I have tried it as well, and even set it up as a new phone, and nothing has helped.
I don't want to pay the $200 for a hardware replacement, because I keep hoping a new iPhone will be out soon (fingers crossed...lol). I'm just hoping I can find some type of quick fix for the meantime.
    Can anyone help????

i have a similar problem, except i feel mine is a tad more severe. it used to be the same issue you seem to experiencing now.
now, the problem has mutated into something monstrous, and i'm really ****** that i'm going to probably have to pay the $229CAD to swap in for another one...
mine is shutting off randomly as well, except now, even if i am using it, it will shut off. if i do not answer the phone while it is lying flat, it will shut off within a minute. when i plug it in to turn it back on, sometimes it will just show the apple logo for 30 seconds to a minute, and then just go black and shut off.
i'm really at my wit's end. when i went to the genius bar, they told me it was a "power issue" and nothing more, as diagnostics were fine. i did the restore. i don't really know what else i can do...
    wish there was a solution.

My old iphone 5s had a faulty screen and was replaced by verizon with another 5s. I backed up my old phone replaced the sim card and restored my phone. Now every 10 mmin it shuts down and the onlyway to get it working again is to hold the 2 buttons to turn it back on. Ive tried reseting all setting and doing another restore with no sucess. I need help I am a business man who needs his phone up and running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not shutting off; it is just blanking the display and the touch sensitivity. The phone is still on, able to receive calls, play music and retrieve email.

  • IPhone keeps shutting off - iOS 7 issues

Over the weekend, after I just upgraded to the new iOS7, my phone shut off more then (5) times. If I was texting or at the unlock screen or getting map direction in the car the iPhone would just shut off completely. Even if I held down the power button for (5) minutes it wouldn't turn back on. Very frustrating specially when I use my phone for everything. Is there something I'm doing wrong because I'm about to turn in this phone.

I just had a refurbished phone sent to me because my iPhone5 was having another data leak. Now the replacement is operating on iOS7 and it has shut off randomly for 5 to 10 minutes three times in three days. I'm going to contact technical support again and ask for another replacement.

  • IPhone keeps shutting off every 30 minutes w/ full battery

Ever since I updated to 2.0, my iPhone has been randomly powering off completely.
The only way to turn it back on is to hold down the Home and Power (top) button for a few seconds, and then the Apple symbol comes up.
    Any ideas?

I think I am having a similar problem. I have the new iPhone 3G.
My screen shuts off (the screen turns black, but the phone is still on...like if you shut the monitor off on a desktop PC while the tower is still on) randomly which requires me to do a hard reset (holding the sleep button at the top of the phone and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears).
This happens without warning when I do the following:
    1. During a call, when I need to use the keypad, put a call on hold, activate speakerphone, etc. the screen will stay black and will not turn on when I touch it. This means I can't even end a call unless the caller hangs up. It is clear that the phone is still on (I can hear the caller at the other end), but I cannot use the screen at all. The screen comes back on when I put the phone back up to my ear, but then when I pull it away to touch the screen it goes black again.
    2. After I complete a call, the screen will shut off before I can press the "end call" button. Even after the call is terminated from the other end, I cannot make the screen come back on.
    3. After the screen automatically goes to sleep (goes black), I cannot make it come back on.
In all 3 of these instances, I use a hard reset to make the screen come back on. In the first instance that I listed, I have to do a hard reset during the call in order to disconnect the call and get the screen to come back on.
These problems do not happen during/after every single call. For example, sometimes it will be after one call, other times it will be after five calls. It happens without warning and without reason. It is very inconvenient because I am resetting my phone several times a day. When I call customer service lines (for any company), I can't use the keypad to do things such as "Press 1 for English" without doing a hard reset in the middle of the call and calling back several times until it works.
I would really appreciate it if you could offer some advice on how to fix this problem.
    Thank you.

  • Iphone keeps shutting off and rebooting and now won't turn back on

My iphone has shut itself off and rebooted 7 times today, and now it won't turn on anymore. What could be the problem? No home bottom to try and reset, so if I need that to fix my problem then I am out of luck.

  • IPhone keeps shutting off, iPhone keeps shutting off

I am having trouble with my iPhone shutting off on its own. When it does this it is takes a long time for it to come back on. Anyone else having these problems?

I was having the same problem on a brand new iPhone 4S, even after I restored the phone and downloaded the newest version of iOS6.
It turns out that the case I purchased at the Apple store was putting pressure on the top button and shutting it off.  The only way I could turn it back on was to press and hold both the top button and the round "home" button simultaneously for about 7 seconds.
As soon as I took the case off of the phone, the problem stopped.
If your phone does not have a case and you have restored the phone to factory settings, etc., then you may have a hardware issue that would require service.

  • IPhone 3GS keeps shutting off randomly after OS4 Update

Right after updating my iPhone 3GS to the OS4, my iPhone randomly shuts off by itself. It will randomly shut down during a call, while downloading an app or typing an e-mail.
After it shuts off, I usually have to restart it and it will freeze frame at the loading (silver apple icon usually indicating it turning on) with many lines going accross the screen and red and yellow colors on the display. I have to re-shut it down to turn it back on and it doesn't even garantee that it will turn on properly.
The phone is brand new (I've had it less than 6 months) and it NEVER crashed before. I tried restoring to new, nothing changed. The phone has not been jailbroken either.
Has anyone been experiencing this as well? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks alot,
    Mike

  • I have a ipod nano shuffle, 6th gen.  I bought it when I had Windows Vista.  I upgraded to Windows Ultimate 7.  Now it keeps shutting off.  Have to press power button and touch arrow to restart.  3 to 4 times a song.  I ran diagnostics.  Passed until end.

Have iPod Nano Shuffle 6th Gen.  I purchased it when I had Windows Vista.  I have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate .  Was fine with Vista.  Now, it keeps shutting off during the song, 3 or 4 times.  Have to press power button and then arrow to restart song.  I went to my iTunes and ran diagnostics.  Passed all until the end.  The last test had a red dot failure.  It said no iPod, iPhone, or iPad found.  Does someone know how I can correct the problem?  iTunes is always updating, so I am current.
