IPhone 5 LTE to 4G

Hi Apple people, so I've been having this "issue" (quotation marks are there because I'm not 100% sure if it is an issue) with my iPhone 5's network. Most of the time it's on LTE but every time I either make or receive a phone call it switches to 4G. It takes like 2 minutes or so to go back to LTE but I'm just curious if anyone is having this "issue." My network is AT&T by the way.

Currently voice is not supported over LTE so the phone has to switch to 3G (AT&T insisted on 4G being displayed for their 3G to confuse people).  It can take some time to switch back to LTE, depending on the LTE signal strength.

  • IPhone LTE Issue

I know this has been discussed about before, but I'm also concerned with the issue. You see, I have an iPhone 5C (a 3G mobile phone) with Verizon Wireless. Sometimes the LTE doesn't seem to work even though it's enabled (as indicated by the left picture), but sometimes it does (as indicated by the right picture).
So why does the LTE keep turning on and off? Is it because it doesn't work in certain locations or what?

Yes, it is most likely because you are leaving LTE coverage areas. You can go to a Verizon corporate store and have them swap the nanoSIM if you want.

  • If I upgrade my 3G phone now, but in 6 months want iPhone LTE, will I still get subsidized device?

Basically, I have a Galaxy S on its last leg. I have unlimited text and data as part of my plan.
I want an iPhone, and I'm eligible to get a subsidized upgrade in 5 days. HOWEVER, Verizon has already said that sometime this summer, they are doing away with unlimited data, so it would behoove me to upgrade my phone NOW so that I maintain my unlimited data.
BUT, in 5-6 months, the new iPhone will come out and "more likely than not" be LTE.
Verizon has said that they will basically try to force everyone to move to LTE anyways, which requires a brand new contract, meaning I'll lose my unlimited data anyways.
    So my question is:
I need a new phone. My Samsung won't even charge half the time...
So, if i 5 days (May 30) I get an iPhone4S, that will obviously extend my current contract.
If in September/October, Apple announces a 4G LTE iPhone, could I get that phone at the subsidized price?
I ask this because getting a 4G phone requires a 4G contract, meaning that Verizon will cancel my 3G service contract and sign me up under their 4G contract. So technically, wouldn't I be a pseudo "new" customer at the point, and qualify for the subsidized device prices?
If not, I'll just wait the 5+ months for the new iPhone, but if I would qualify for the subsidized LTE device even if I upgrade my device in 5 days, then I'll do it that way so that I can finally bury this phone.
    Thanks
    Pete

As you have mentioned, you will be in a unique situation when the 3G unlimited data switch occurs.
Currently if you were already on 4G and you wanted the 4S now, you would not be able to then buy the LTE in 6 months with a discount.
It looks as though you can keep your unlimited data if you choose to pay the full retail price for a new phone. Will have to see if that makes sense for you.
Below is the the latest information I've seen on the move:
    Here are the exact statements:
Customers will not be automatically moved to new shared data plans. If a 3G or 4G smartphone customer is on an unlimited plan now and they do not want to change their plan, they will not have to do so.
When we introduce our new shared data plans, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to customers when purchasing handsets at discounted pricing.
Customers who purchase phones at full retail price and are on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan.
The same pricing and policies will be applied to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones.

  • IPhone 6 Canada Rogers will work on USA T Mobile LTE?

    Hey All,
I have an iPhone 6 with Rogers in Canada. I'm moving to the States in a few months and I would like to know if I will be able to use my iPhone 6 with T Mobile's LTE service.
Rogers said they will unlock my phone for INTERNATIONAL use. But I'm more concerned if the phone will work on T Mobile's LTE.
    https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
Here is a list of LTE bands that work for iPhone 6's and 6 plus, but I do not know what they mean.
If anyone could let me know how this works, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Don't count on it.  Read the iPhone AppleCare agreement.

"4.1 Hardware Service and ADH Coverage Area.  Under AppleCare+ for iPhone and AppleCare+ for iPad, Apple may restrict hardware service and ADH coverage to the country where the Covered Device was originally purchased."

sorry but I think this wrong, I know that in Colombia there and two of the three operators already have 4G/LTE networks, what happens is that the iPhone should be expected to send the update software for computers that have this tercnologia activate them, that my Iphone or receiving 5 supports 4G LTE,
    Thank you for your attention

Apple needs to test the carrier if they offer LTE as expected.
If your country/carrier is not on the list then there's no LTE on your iPhone.

It's between the your carrier and Apple. There's nothing you can do except feedback to Apple:

No LTE toggle in my iPhone 5 but works perfectly on my iPad(4thgen). Any help please?

Sorry, iPhone 5 does not support LTE, with that carrier, where you are. That's why you don't have the enable LTE switch. iPhone 5 only supports LTE in the following countries:

  • Iphone 5  Enable LTE

I have Iphone 5 here in Oman. But there is no any option of Enable LTE in cellular settings. Why is it so? Mobile Operators have LTE services and my SIM is also privisioned with LTE.\

Carrier Supports LTE for iPhone 5  -  Middle East 3 Country Supports UAE,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait  but  Oman ( omantel )   ?

Carriers must be listed as supported LTE carriers by Apple to make the functionality available.  There are no carriers in Oman that support LTE based on Apples requirements.  http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

  • HT3939 Is there any iPhone 5s that doesnt support 4g lte?

Can anyone clarify this for me?

LTE uses different bands in different geographic regions. So a phone sold for use in one region may not support LTE in other regions. See: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/. It will still work on 3G/GSM.

  • IPhone 5: Roaming LTE

So I found this page detailing the different LTE bands supported by the iPhone 5:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
It appears that the models for US CDMA networks Sprint and Verizon share a model number with the version destined for other countries, and that the US LTE bands are the same as those used in the UK on various carriers.
I was able to switch out the SIM card in my Sprint iPhone 4S and use the phone on a 3G network in the UK. Will I similarly - carrier unlock permitting - be able to do the same with the iPhone 5, using a UK LTE network when I am there?

you should you would probably have to configure the APN settings with the iphone config tool

  • I am currently living in KSA, if i order an unlocked iPhone 6(T-Mobile) will LTE work ?

I am currently living in KSA, if i order an unlocked iPhone 6(T-Mobile) will LTE work ?

The unlocked iPhone 5s model sold in the U.S. is A1533 (GSM).

The iPhone will work except for not being able to connect to any LTE networks there, and the warranty if needed will be valid in the U.S. only.

  • Will the T-Mobile iPhone 6 work with AT&T LTE?

Will the T-Mobile iPhone 6 work with AT&T LTE? This page seems to indicate it will: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ But I imagine the phone could be locked to T-Mobile.

What about the contract free one?  It ships with a T-Mobile SIM and is unlocked (e.g. AT&T works with no issues on 4G for me), I'm just unable to get LTE.    I've noticed the "carrier" setting is missing from the Settings menus...however when I navigate to the About screen, it downloads the carrier specific updates, so based upon https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ it should work, right?
How do you get AT&T LTE on the contract-free/T-Mobile SKU?
