IPhone 5 Mail usage and capacity on iOS 7.1.

How does it happen that I have 127MB of mail and attachments in the usage overview on my iPhone 5 Mail when everything is empty? Nothing is there, complete blank of attachments, drafts, e-mails, sent messages, contacts and so on. I can't believe that the Mail app in itself has the size of as much of 127MB, or does anyone know if this is true or not and to help me to solve it?

  • IPhone Mail, MobileMe and Multiple From Addresses

iOS 4.2 failed us MobileMe mail users by not allowing us to send from multiple external accounts using our @Me account. Ugh! I can not wait to see this discussion roll back into the history books. I patiently sat waiting and now I give.
I understand that there are numerous discussions on the web about this, but I feel inclined to share yet another solution that I have not seen on the web. It is pretty straightforward and simple.
(I will write, semi-explicitly, as to help all understand.)
First off, Here is a scenario...
-I have a MobileMe account and choose to use this on my iPhone for the sync reasons that we all know and love.
-I have a Gmail account which is my primary email address that all my friends and family etc. have. I ONLY want them to see and use this email address. (I know how easily confused others address books, as well as themselves, get when they see more than 1 email address.)
-I have my business email address which I only want to share with clients and for work purposes. I do not want to share my Gmail with them.
Let's label these email addresses as follows...
    MobileMe is [email protected]
    Gmail is [email protected]
    Work is [email protected]
(*I will add 1 more later in this thread*)
-First thing to do is go into the [email protected] accounts settings and forward all messages to the [email protected] address. (I have gmail archive the messages after forwarding)
-Then, go into the [email protected] accounts settings and forward all of these messages to the [email protected] account. (I have work mail archive the messages after forwarding)
-Next, setup [email protected] on your iPhone as normal.
-Then, setup [email protected] on your iPhone as normal.
*You will now have 2 email accounts that both send and receive on your iPhone. Now, when you compose new mail, you can touch the cc field and then select which account that you would like to send from. (I know, you know this already... Continue on.)
The unified Inbox helps you manage incoming mail, but you will receive 2 copies of everything that is sent to [email protected]'s email. Yukk! This is obviously because [email protected] is receiving the message and [email protected] is receiving the forward message, right?
Here is my very simple and silly solution that Apple has forced me to use...
Create a new email account (somewhere like gmail) with the intention of NEVER using this address anywhere! You NEVER want mail to come here, so make the address some stupid name like [email protected]. In the settings for that account you can even set a new filter which will delete any message that is sent to this address (if you want added protection from receiving mail here).
*We will call this new email account [email protected]
Now go into the iPhone settings for the [email protected] email account and set the incoming server settings to the [email protected] settings. *Make sure to set the proper port, SSL etc.
Ahhh, now you will only receive the messages sent to your [email protected] account via your [email protected] account on your iPhone and you can still send from either account when you compose new messages or replies.
    Enjoy.

    Hello,
I never saw your original post.
I have not tried this specifically with a Gmail account, but don't see why it wouldn't work. See the Mail Help and the following Support doc link for email aliases:

Those about .mac aliases do not apply.

  • Why is my iphone 5 rebooting and freezing under iOS 7?

My iPhone 5 worked perfectly every day for a year.  Now that I've upgraded to iOS 7 it freezes frequently and reboots itself every few hours.  What is wrong and how can I fix it?

I take it you've got the original iPhone 5?
If so, I highly recommend that you switch these off in Settings:
    1) WiFi
    2) Bluetooth
    3) Mobile Data (internet usage via 3G etc)
Don't leave them running for long periods, they'll drain your battery at an alarming rate, even with Mobile Data turned on, your battery won't last for more than 3 days!!
Mobile Data is found in 'Mobile' in settings.
Also, some Settings that will cause a fairly gradual drain are:
    1) Privacy>Location services>System Services - Turn off: Location based iAds, and Location Services (uses GPS)
    2) GPS  - Turn off
    3) Change your Brightness to the second "s" in brightness
    4) iTunes and Appstore settings - turn off automatic download updates if your really desperate
    5) General>background App Refresh - Turn off
Note that some apps make extensive use of internet, eg. Facebook and Twitter and such, you'll have to manage these much tighter than normal. As in, don't leave them running in the background, quit those apps, as they'll keeping using the internet (checking for updates) when not in use by the user.
After you've done these, make a note of the percentage battery at the time, and leave it in sleep mode for an hour. If it's used about 1% or none, then you're back to normal battery usage, and it's fixed it.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Container resource u0096 usage and capacity

    Hi,
For a chemical company I have the following situation: A bulk (intermediate product) is blended/produced in a tank. Then this bulk will be filled into different possible packaging. Therefore the tank will only be empty, when the last quantity is filled into one of these possible packaging. And a new production of a bulk can only begin, when the tank is empty. (An order for producing and one or some orders for filling will be used).
My idea was now to use container resources for these tanks. My aim would be, that if the tank is not empty, there is no capacity. That would mean, that any stock “uses” or blocks available capacity of the tank. First test showed that this is not the case.
Therefore: What is the final usage of a container resource – what is your experience? Can I somehow block the resource until it is emptied by the filling orders (which would use only the filling machines as resources)? What do I have to maintain to receive this result (already done: container resource and product flow in SCM 5.0)?
    Thanks a lot
    Guido

    Hi,
I made the experience that the level of stock does not influence the available (time-)capacity.  In my point of view, the storage functionality is mainly for alert creation and handling.  There is also a heuristic for storage resources, but I don't have experience in using this heuristic.
    Thanks

  • Iphone 5s lagging and freezing on ios 8.1.1

Anyone from Apple who can help? Before I throw out my iphone 5s out the window!!! Lagging and freezing came about after updating to IOS 8.1.1, done everything to fix it, hard reset and restore to factory settings included.  Its still the same.. it lags and freezes on everything I do.. wish I could just downgrade it back to 8.0 which I've been told is no longer possible.  The latest IOS update didn't help either.  I think its official, my iphone is now a pieces of worthless crap..

If you did a restore as new and still have issues, it could be a hardware problem.
I would schedule an appointment with the Genius bar and take it in to Apple and have it looked at.
You don't have a hacked or jailbroken device?

  • IPhone 6, iphone 5S, iphone 5C freezing and crashing in iOS 8.1.2-8.1.3

ive got 3 phones and they all exhibit the same behavior. mostly when opening an apple app the phone will freeze- especially the phone app. It took an hour befote I could access the key pad to dial apple to try and get my iPhone 6 that I bought yesterday replaced.
All three phones do the same thing: Apple apps crash or freeze, sometimes will go back to normal, sometimes have to restart the phone. It's worse on the iPhone 6.
On the iPhone 6 all Apple apps function about 30% of the time. Third party apps seem fine but anything related to the system cannot work. Several resets and restores later it's still the same.
IMessage asks me me every few minutes to log in as well.
i have never had such a negative experience with a phone before- calling and text messaging is impossible. even after the latest restore it froze on the iCloud login page for 10 minutes.
IMia this a software bug or hardware. All I could get from calling service is "I don't know, it's a new one for me."

Jeez, the keyboard lags behind so much and the keys seem offset

good day apple. can you help me with my iphone 4s 5.1. SCREEN AND ICONS ARE SHAKING. what am going to do. thanks

okay. I tried the airplane mode and do not disturb on and off thing, resetting the network settings and all settings, restoring the iPhone using iTunes, draining phone using flashlight, reheating the phone using hair dryer and freezing the phone.. the freezing makes my wifi work again but it only last a couple of hours and I didn't want to try it anymore because I'm afraid it may cause another problem to my phone if I keep doing that.

  • Fixing iPhone mail problems in IOS 7

This is a re-posting of my original discussion regarding mail problems with IOS 7 so I could correct the tags associated with the discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23199621?ac_cid=op123456#23199621
I am certain my mailbox names match those on my AOL server, that AOL preferences are set so all mail is saved on the server and my iPhone (4) settings are to retrieve mail from the server, not my iPhone.  I have matched the settings on my problem iPhone with my second iPhone that, after upgrading to IOS 7, works perfectly using the same AOL mail account.  I have deleted the mail account on the problematic iPhone and set it back up.  I have restored the iPhone to factory settings, updated it with my setting from a backup and re-synced my personal data.  I do not sync with iCloud because mail syncs well through WiFi or through iTunes.  Anyone with similiar mail problems who can suggest fixes that work would be most appreciated.  Thank you.

Additional information:  i decided to delete both of my iPhone mail accounts and re-enter them using the automated setup in Settings . . . neither account would load because of an error message that the outgoing IMAP server was incorrect. I went to AOL and got the IMAP server "in" and "out" settings but when I tried to enter the correct number, I discovered you can't change it (grayed out).  Catch 22 - When setting up the account, iPhone assigns an AOL primary outgoing server number after you identify the @aol.com address, and you can't change it.  It is not the one AOL said to use.  (Is this the IOS 7 software error that might be causing the problem???)   I set up the phones manually again, with the phone automatically entering the outgoing server number, but got a a different error message that I may not be able to send or receive mail.  I was able to enter the correct outgoing server number ONLY when I added an additional outgoing server.  It lets you enter the server number.  Seems when there is a primary outgoing server (the iPhone assigned number) and a backup (one I entered with the correct number) both phones work! I know, complicated!  Finallly, I suspected this is all about mailbox behavior on OS X and ISO devices and the problem is likely specific to just AOL accounts so I mapped where mail goes after being sent on all devices . . . interesting.  As I suspect, sent mail goes to different mailboxes on OS X devices and ISO devices, so you have to go look for them.  They are there, but in different locations.  I may have to live with that.  Anyone else dealing with this?

  • Can iPhone Mail redirect mail to subfolders like the Apple desktop Mail app

In my Mail app on my computer, I have Rules set up so that certain emails from various people get moved to a few different subfolders I have set up. However, in my iPhone, they all come to my primary email address. Is there any way to make iPhone mail behave and redirect certain emails to subfolders? I belong to a few beta test groups and the amount of email is staggering, so I've rather have these emails redirected. Any advice? Thanks.

No - the iPhone does not include a rules feature to sort recieved messages by category, and you can't create mailboxes with the iPhone's Mail client. The iPhone's Mail client is a compliment to the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, not a replacement for.
With an IMAP account along with storing all user created mailboxes on the server for sorting recieved messages by category, all server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's Mail client and kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. If you keep the Mail.app on your Mac launched and running, any sorting of received messages to user created server stored mailboxes based on rules with the Mail.app on your Mac will be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client. This is not possible with a POP account.

    its facory unlocked btw

Try to do a reset, if it doesn't work try remove recently added apps this may solve your problem ( like google app because it has happened with me)
Take a look at apps using your location service in privacy, it can cause battery draining.

I updated my Iphone 3gs to last version of iOS and now I can't change my configurations of Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Generally that is a sign that the iPhone had previously been jailbroken
or hacked to work with other than the original wireless provider. The update
has relocked the iPhone to the original wireless provider. You must
contact them to see if they provide unlocking and if you qualify.
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at
    Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • Data usage and battery drain has skyrocketed with iOS 8.1.2 (maybe earlier)

3 weeks ago my wife got a text message on her iPhone 5 from AT&T that she had used 90% of her data for the month.  30 seconds later, she got another one saying that she had used 100%.  Granted, her data plan is small, 200 MB.  But, for the last two years she has used as little as 17 MB in a month and her largest prior to this latest month was 49 mb.  This month she got to 380 mb before we were able to shut off her cell data.  Otherwise, a second chunk of 200 MB and another $15 would have been added to the month.
We had noticed that her battery had been draining rather rapidly in standby mode with no background apps running when she didn't have access to WiFi.  We have now correlated the two results, High Cell data usage, Quick battery drain and very warm phone.  In case anyone is wondering about her iPhone 5 being one in the recall, it is.  I took it in and had it tested.  Apple says the battery is fine.  It does hold a charge well.  When all network communications are shut down on her phone and it is in standby mode, there is no noticeable loss of charge in 24 hours (our longest test).
Since I have a grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan with AT&T, I have been doing some testing on my iPhone 5s.  Sure enough, I've seen similar results.  With nearly everything turned off except Cell Data, I've seen 483 MB used in 24 hours.  Of that total, 479 MB was used for Documents & Sync.  I even have everything turned off in my iCloud account, Location services are turned off, no push notifications etc...
The best I can figure, this has been a problem since we installed 8.1.2 and yesterday I installed 8.1.3 resulting in no positive effect on this issue.
At this rate of data usage and no access to WiFi, my wife would have to have a 15 Gb data plan to keep from exceeding her limit.  I don't think AT&T even offers one that big anymore.  I might have to switch to Sprint or T-Mobile if this doesn't get resolved.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your shared insights.

Hey this is Brian, bjmcmurry, under a different user ID.  If I logged in as bmcmurry, original post, I was just getting a server error and couldn't get to this discussion nor post a comment anywhere.
Anyway, let me be as brief as I can.  After an extensive analysis of replicating the problem on another phone to eliminate it being a hardware specific issue and that the test phone has an unlimited data plan, I was able to stop the excessive data usage and consequential battery drain.  I believe I have a reasonable explanation of the problem, an iOS logic bug.
I had everything under my control clamped down on the test phone to minimize data usage.  Also, I was forcing all data usage to use the cell towers.  I determined that I was burning at least 11 to 13 Mb per hour doing nothing important.  I literally had everything turned off except 'Settings' was allowed to use Cell data providing a avenue to log into the Apple ID.
The two phones had 2 things in common, they were using the same Apple ID and the same version of the OS.  One was a iPhone 5 and the other was a 5s.
Here is a synopsis of my experience via my written evaluation of the Apple support system (Apple Rep name's have been removed):
After a couple of hours on the phone with an Apple Care Senior support Analyst, it was suggested that I go to the Apple Store to 1) get my battery replace in the iPhone 5 since it qualified for the replacement program and 2) see if the Genius could provide me with any insight in the data usage issue and battery drain.
I'm certainly glad I had multiple reasons to visit the closest Apple store, a 45 min drive.  I got the battery replaced, thanks for that.
Regarding the important issue to me that brought me to the Genius Bar, excessive Cell data usage, I thought the Genius did a wonderful job listening and documenting the problem we were experiencing.  Unfortunately, educating us on the use of the product or replacing our phone was not going to solve the problem.  He eventually figured it out, this was not a user error or broken hardware.  We surmised that the reason I was sent to him was to verify and document that there was a problem.  I clearly had a problem.  After writing copious notes on the issue, The Genius smartly referred me back the the AppleCare Senior Advisor.  So, back to AppleCare Senior Analyst I went. She, knowing this was not a simple problem to solve i.e. beyond her level of expertise, got an Apple Software engineer involved.
My primary frustration is that this should have been escalated to software engineering right away.  My trip to see the Genius was, I believe, a waste of time for both me and Apple regarding this issue.  Diagnosis of this type of problem is well beyond the Genius’ knowledge and job.  The Genius did a very good job doing what he could within the scope of his job.  He just couldn’t solve this problem and had no one within Apple to which he had access for help.
However, that initial consult with the engineer was a bit feeble.  Not only could I not talk to him/her directly, his/her focus was still working with the ‘Black Box' approach.  Having Analyst ask me to do stuff like restore the Phone was more like trying to find a 'work around' than 'identifying the real problem.'  Maybe restoring the phone was going to fix some corrupted data on the phone sidesteping the real problem, the handling of this condition.  The engineer did listen to the fact that I had restored the test phone, the 5s, and only added the use of my Apple ID.  Duh, been there!!!
Having been an previous owner of a software development company that I started in 1980 and retired in 2001, I can tell you that using the 'Black Box' method of debugging is extremely inefficient.  Instead, having access to an ‘Activity Manager’ type app to identify in real time what process was blowing up the data flow would have saved me a lost afternoon at the Apple store and hours on the phone with tech support.
Ironically, I may have stumbled onto a "work around" solution short of turning off Cell Data that stopped the excessive Cell Data usage and consequential battery drain.  Just prior to leaving the Apple Store, I used one of their Macs to log in my Apple ID on the id.apple.com website to ‘Manage my Apple ID’, I was forced to upgrade the security level of my password.  Afterward, my cell data usage seemed to drop dramatically.
I told the AppleCare Senior Analyst that I may have stumbled onto a workaround and I suggested that I give it a couple of days of monitoring.  We'd talk then and I would have results to report.  She agreed.
Sure enough, my Document & Sync usage was back to normal, about 1/2 Mb per day.  Am I happy that the excessive Cell Data usage has stopped?  You bet!  But, there was no intuitive reason that an end user would know to log in on the ID website to unknowingly solve this problem.  As I use to say to my employees, that is not the ‘Macintosh Way.’  And, rebooting the the 'Microsoft Way.'
When I reported my findings to the Analyst, we both concluded that data usage was back to normal.  She did report to me that the engineer did provide a laundry list of suggested activities to help solve the problem.  Remarkably, they were everything that I had already done and were pretty much what the Analyst and the Genius tried to do.  All reasonable tasks.  But clearly, the engineer hadn't even ready the notes on the case before responding.  And, none of the things suggested would have uncovered the real problem, likely a logic bug in iOS.
My advice now is to have the software engineering team rule out that there was an unresolvable state that a background process was fiercely trying to handle.  The iOS does not seem to know how to intervene and prompt the user with a requirement to upgrade their password.  If this does end up being the case, I would call it a logic bug, a perpetual exception that is not being handled properly.
Anyway, I hope this helps you.
