IPHONE 5 MAIL USAGE EXCESSIVE

If I check the usage under settings, general, usage - my mail shows over 400mb but I have only a few messages in the mailboxes.
How do I reduce this usage anyone?
Thanks

I guess that maybe one way but it does seem drastic - Im wondering why it shows 400mb usage when clearly thats not the case - maybe someone else has an idea?

How does it happen that I have 127MB of mail and attachments in the usage overview on my iPhone 5 Mail when everything is empty? Nothing is there, complete blank of attachments, drafts, e-mails, sent messages, contacts and so on. I can't believe that the Mail app in itself has the size of as much of 127MB, or does anyone know if this is true or not and to help me to solve it?

  • TS3899 I have no mail on my iphone, but the usage shows 2.4GB. Why?

I have no mail on my iphone, but the usage shows 2.4GB. Why?

I'm guessing "the usage" means email usage that you found in Settings > General > Usage.  If that is incorrect, the 2.4GB may well mean other stuff.
If correct, the 2.4GB may well include messages you have deleted, but are still on your iPhone.

  • TS3899 Is mail usage 972 excessive on ipad ios7?

Is mail usage 973 MB excessive on ipad ios 7 ?

Thank you  First sensible answer i have received.  I have taken steps to remove all attachments and saved messages etc., but to no avail.  My concern was if this was harmful or as you said normal.  I get a lot of advertisement messages  which I promptly delete.  I will keep watching unless there is anything else I can do to reduce the usage. Thanks agan for your  prompt response..

  • IPad 2 Mail Usage

I've wondered why I have so little space available on my 16 GB iPad, as I have used less than 5 GB for music, photos, and apps. Now with iOS 7 I see that my Mail usage is over 4GB.  I have only one active account with a few small emails, none with attachments and Trash is empty.  Why is Mail taking up so much space?

I don't think so.  I have tons of email going back to 2004 in one icloud mailbox, but my iphone only has them going back to 2011.  If I access the iphone mail for that mailbox, only when I scroll to the bottom of the page and try to scroll more does it begin downloading more.  if I back out of that mailbox, the downloading stops.

  • TS3899 Using ios on my iphone4 the mail usage is 1GB inspite of my deleting most of the messages.  How come?

Using iso on my iphone 4 the mail usage is 1 GB inspite of my deleting most messages.

Did you also delete them from Trash?
See the Trash folder under the relevant mail account in Mailboxes.

  • IPhone 4 mail App not working properly

My IPhone 4 mail app just continues to spin and check email without getting email or sending.
Had the same problem in October after iOS 6 update took in phone and got a new one under 1 yr warranty.( apple and Verizon techs could not figure)
Again the problem is back.  The spiny thing just continues to spin and no email update.
If I reboot the phone the email is pulled down but stops again.
    iPhone : 4
    iOS : 6.01
    Carrier : Verizon wireless
Can not find anything on apple support or anywhere on google
I installed gmail app and all email pulls down perfectly but can not get me AOL email setup
So I know the network is working
Anyone know about this email App problem?
    Thx
    Bahram

I'm getting this too. It's very slow and apparently thinks "Call Sue Newport" sounds like "Call Halfords" or "Call Halyards" and, most surprisingly "Call First Great Western".
I was wearing my Jawbone Bluetooth headset so it's nothing to do with background noise.
I tried the new "What time is it?" command which works but takes about 10-15 seconds to activate.

  • IPhone deletes mail on Exchange server - how to uncouple?

Whenever I delete company mail on my iPhone the mail is deleted from the Exchange server.
Where can I toggle this? I want the mail to stay visible from my Mac but be cleared off my iPhone.
    Many thanks.
Edited to reflect it's an Exchange server, not IMAP.

You cannot. Exchange servers operate just like IMAP - the mail lives on the server, and a local copy is synced/cached. If you make a change (like deleting a message) on one device, that change is reflected on the server (assuming you're connected to the internet), and thus on all devices.
One option might be to create a different folder (in Mail on the Mac, for example, but on the Exchange account not local so the phone can access it) - call it Read Mail or something like that. Then, on the iPhone move emails from your Inbox to that folder instead of deleting them.

  • How to delete the Previous Recipients list in iPhone 3G Mail

I would like to delete the list of previous recipients in my iPhone 3G Mail so that when I search it only shows addresses in my Contacts, not every single random address I may have used.
I know how to do this in Mail on my desktop, and I tried the option of replacing the Mail info on the iPhone with the info from the desktop, but it didn't work.
Anyone knows how to do this?

    sanjinzvonic,
In my expeirence, the only way to do this is to restore your iPhone, setting it up as a new phone. You can try resetting all settings prior to this to see if that does it as well.
To reset all settings, navigate to Settings > General > Reset.
Backing Up, updating, and restoring your iPhone and iPod touch software

This response is a little late as I just read about your problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and both worked flawlessly with the iPhone 5s my wife and I had. However, we just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and Uconnect will receive calls but you cannot answer them. You can callout successfully, however. the annoyance being the inability to answer incoming calls in the HandsFree mode.

  • In my 16 gb iPhone 5, Mail has used up 5,6 gbs of memory.  Trash is empty and there are a few mails in my accounts with no attachments.  What's wrong?

In my 16 gb iPhone 5, Mail has used up 5,6 gbs of memory (and is increasing).  Trash is empty and there are a few mails in my accounts with no attachments.  What's wrong?

These are Apple's tips on this:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • What's wrong with my iPhone 5's usage?

Hey everyone. For some reason, I am having some strange problems with my 16 gb iPhone 5's usage. I'm always getting pop-ups saying that my storage is full, and I can't even take any pictures anymore because it says it doesn't have enough space. Usually I can delete 5-6 photos and the camera becomes useable again, but after one photo, it once again says that the storage is full.
Then I connect my phone to my computer and go to itunes, and I see that the usage bar is filled at around 7.52 GB with music, and some for apps and photos, but the rest says "Other", and this Other category takes up 5.43 GB.
A strange thing that I noticed is, when I delete a bunch of apps to lower the "Application" category in the usage bar, the "Other" category fills up to make up for the lost App space! This is really irritating me. This also happens with music; If I delete about 1 GB worth of music, 1 GB gets added on to the "Other" category. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get rid of this annoying "Other" category? I deleted all my messages, I have no photos or videos, and yet the Other category takes up almost half of my space.

Check out this great user tip from Kappy:

  • IPhone e-Mail bug: Text cut off below a picture

    Hi Guys,
Just discovered a very annoying bug in iPhone's mail client: If you are creating a new e-mail and paste a picture into it, the text below the picture will be cut off completely. So if you have a mail: "text before [PICTURE] text after" then it will only send: "test before [PICTURE]" and the "text after" will be dissapeared to the thin air.
This is rather annoying and I would consider it as a serious bug.

PS: I use iPhone 5 and iOS 6.1 and use Exchange mail settings for accessing Gmail (to get push notifications from Gmail)

    Hi 1980LND,
Thanks for your help, I am not convienced if backup and restore would help. In the meanwhile I have found few discussions about this from 2010 -- Apple blames Microsoft Outlook protocol for this, but in my opinion this is wrong. If that is a known bug Apple should really warn their customers about losing data if they try to do that. Or just fix it even if Microsoft broke some RFCs. But yeah, with a message box with the warning "Due to a bug in Outlook protocol you are going to lose your text below the picture. Do you really want to continoue and lose the text below your picture? [I am Dumb Yes] [God No!]" would be sufficient, just do not let me hang and wonder where my text evaporated.
    Thanks again
    Tamas
