Iphone 5 memory

I have an Iphone 5 16gb and it is continuously running out of memory. It have 18 apps, 30 songs, 500 pics and 150 videos and I have to delete them constantly to make room for new ones. I previously had an Iphone 4 with the same memory which held twice as much data as this one. My partner also has an Iphone 5 with the same storage with 2 or 3 times as much data on it and it still says that he has 2gb of storage left. Is there a problem with my Iphone or is there anything I can do to free up more storage. Thanks!!

Hello there, AshCam13.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some practical steps for troubleshooting not enough space issues:
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1503
Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
Restore using iTunes.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.

  • IPhone memory used by "Other"

I recently upgraded to iOS 5 and now 7 Gb of my iPhone 3GS is used by "Other".  What is "Other" and why is so much memory assigned to it?

    Hi All,
I have been facing the same issue and found a solution that does not require a full restore!
Its seems to be related with the music synchronization mechanism
Here is a link to a very usefull documentation that describe what I did to resolve my issue!

  • IPhone memory getting flooded by old apps I no longer use

Since ios5 and icloud, my iphone memory is getting flooded by the reappearance of every app i ever purhased.  any suggestions on how to avoid this problem, now and for the future (i.e. future syncs.)?

Open iTunes with your iPhone connected to your computer.
    Select the iPhone under Devices.
Select the Apps tab from the menu.
Deselect the boxes for apps you don't want synced then click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.
As long as those boxes aren't selected, iCloud shoudn't "sync" them back in and take up storage space.

  • How to remove "other" files from iphone memory

Concerning how the memory is used on the Iphones under the "other" category, I have found that the biggest culprit is text messages that include photos and videos sent and received. Think about it, when you take a picture and then send it, even though you delete it from your camera roll, it is still necessary to hold in memeory as being part of the text history. It is only removed from the phone when you delete it from the text message as well. This also applies to text messages received. This is a large hidden area to most people!
    good luck.

Restore the iOS.  You may have to do this as a new phone (without using a backup).  Note that "other" contains messages and emails - if you have a lot of these, especially with photos/videos, that would account for the other usage.

  • IPhone memory filling up when Transferring Purchases

I am having problems when trasnferring purchases from my iPhone 5 to iTunes.  I have around 1GB of space left on my iPhone.  But when I transfer my purchases, the 1GB becomes zero bytes for some odd reason, so the transferring process gets cancelled because "there isn't enough free space on my device."  I don't know why this is happening.  I tried rebooting my iPhone, and when I checked the usage statistics, I had my 1GB, but when I attempted to transfer purchases agian, the memory usage when back down to zero.

It isn't really polite to clog up the tag cloud; it just makes tags less useful to everyone. One or two tags should be sufficient.
It happens because the phone must make a copy of each app to be transferred. The copy is deleted once the transfer is complete. So you can solve the problem by temporarily deleting some iTunes music, complete the transfer, then put the music back.

  • Itunes 11.0.1 does not show iphone memory

    I've just installed 11.0.1 (12).
Syncing iPhone 4s and I no longer see the allocation of memory to different content on the phone. I do see the coloured bars, but not the numbers (below).
As you (might) see, I only have a figure for the free space, but not for the rest. Anyone else seen this?
    Regards,
    Mark

If you hover over the segments of the bar a popup shows you The Media, The Size and number of items.

  • IPhone: Memory Management / Tracking Tools

I am new to Mac/iPhone programming but have 20+ years in Windows. I am not familiar with the tools but MS Dev Studio will show memory leaks as the app shuts down. Is there a similar switch to turn on for xcode? I am having trouble with the gestalt of memory management on this platform. For example, I know this is bad code style but is there a leak here?
    myLabel.text = [@"Hello, World. " stringByAppendingString: myTextField.text];
    Thanks,
    Todd

I found section four of this document incredibly useful.
Broadly speaking, if you create an object using "alloc" you need to manually clean up afterwards, otherwise it will be autoreleased and you won't get a memory leak.
XCode comes with Instruments which allows you to track down leaks (among other things).

  • HT1386 iPhone memory issue

8gb of memory has been mysteriously gone from my iPhone, noted as "other". How can I find out what this is and delete it? I've restored my phone a few times but haven't been able to get rid of this. Any suggestions? Thanks

Connect the iPhone to the computer, select the iPhone in the left hand tab of iTunes.  IN the right hand tab select summary and look at the bottom of the screen,  iTunes will tell you exactly what is taking up space.
If Other is really large (greater than 1GB) try restoring from backup.  IF that does not clear it up, restore as new.

  • Iphone memory used up by "Events"

My iPhone 4S started behaving strangely after upgrading to iOS 7. The memory fills up within an hour, and after this I have to reset it to free up again. In Settings:General:Usage it says that the additional memory is used in "Calendars & Reminders". More specifically in "Events".
I logged the memory use from the phone being "empty" until the memory was used up after around 45 minutes.
This is what it looks like in the usage overview. Note how the Calendars & Reminders are suspiciously big.
Using IOS 7, on a 16 Gb iPhone 4 model MD235B/A. Model firmware is 5.0.00

I have the same problem with a filled memory using my WiFi iPad 2, iOS 7. Even after removing all accounts and everything I could imagine that uses the calender, 8 GB is used on "Events" before restart and 819 MB after.
The iPad is extremly non-responsive and the calendar is filled with "New Event" at 00.00 the day after tomorrow.
Have anybody found a solution to the problem?
Do any of you know how to remove this data?

  • Does more iPhone memory speed processing?

Does buying an iPhone with more memory speed processing?

    No, not really.
'Memory' or 'RAM' would allow more temporary storage for processing which could improve processing, however I think you are confusing memory with 'storage'.
Apple only offer the same memory capacity for each model but offer different 'storage' sizes.
More storage simply allows you to store more apps, music, photos etc on the device.  You can't buy an iPhone or iPad with more memory, only the storage sizes differ.

Please help me with this issue as early as possible.

You might want to take this discussion to the developers forums. This is a general user to user forum for using the iPhone. This is way outside the scope of general use.

  • IPhone memory taken up with "other"

iTunes is telling me my 128Gb iPhone 6 is full and can't be synced, on account of all this "other" memory. earlier today it was fine - very little "other" memory and plenty of free space. one sync later and here we are. I reset the whole phone to factory setting - no joy. Any ideas?

When you reset your iPhone, did you keep all of the apps, music, books, etc?
    Check these threads --
How to remove 'others' memory from my iphone?
    Re: "Other" memory issue
If the information there doesn't help, try the following --
1.Back up your iPhone to iTunes (just in case)
    2. Connect your iPhone to iTunes
    3. Clear all music and book synchronization
    4. If this clears the "Other" category, you should be fine. If not, proceed to step 5.
    4. Remove all non-permanent apps via iTunes.
    5. Reset your phone again.
    6. Restore your apps one at a time to see if you can identify the app that is taking over the "Other" category.

  • Iphone memory "other, Iphone memory "other"

I have a 8GB iPhone 4 that I have been having issues with its memory lately. I have noticed that I have 2.1 GB taken up by a file named "other". I just reset my iPhone to the factory setting the other day, yet it is still at 2.1 GB of the "other" file already. I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to fix this issue?

You say youve reset your phone to factory settings, do you mean restore? Anything over around 1gb of other memory, normally represents corrupt files, In order to alleviate them you should connect to itunes and do a restore from your backup. If that does not fix then you will need to restore your phone as new in itunes.

  • Preventing video podcasts from filling up my iPhone memory

I like to download video podcasts into iTunes so that I can watch them later on my computer, but I don't want them syncing onto my iPhone and using up all of it's memory.  Is there a way to keep them in iTunes without having them transfer onto my phone or even better, allow me to transfer only one or two of them onto my phone and keep the rest in iTunes?

    Hi there Dave in Anacortes,
I sounds like you may need to manually manage your Podcasts. Take a look at the article below for more information.
