IPhone 5 not charging and randomly powering down

I've had this phone since Christmas. This started about a week ago. I noticed that my phone was randomly shutting off, no matter what power level it was at. Then within the week it started not charging when plugged in. I've tried multiple lightning cables and power sources, with only my car charger remotely working (Verizon product). It will go up about 7% then stop. This morning I noticed when I turned it back on after one of it's random power offs, that the edges of the screen were flickering. I've tried rebooting it and restoring it and nothing has helped. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I going to have to pay for a new phone?

According to me first you check your lightning cable becouse with the lightning cable there is issue of peeling out than the cable is working some time or not working some time. you can check you lightning cable from the lightning connectors side and also from USB side. if your cable is peeling out the replace your cable and that is not peeling out that you can go with the Basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).

Iphone not charging and continuously restarting when connected

Last night I let my iphone 4 run down to 2% charge. I plugged it into the charger (china one) and it would come up with the electricity symbol, but not be charging. I then connected it to my genuine apple charger and the same thing happened. It then continuously restarted, i.e. apple screen for a few seconds, then my pincode screen for a split second, then the thinking and restarting symbol (round in a circle) before going black for a few seconds then back to the apple screen. I couldn't get it out of this loop, so I connected it to my itunes. The same reboot happened once, then it came up with an error message
"itunes could not connect to this iphone beause an unknown error occurred (OxE8000065)"
The next morning I unplugged and replugged the phone into the mac and a different message popped up
"The iphone cannot be synced. An internal device error occured."
It did the restart again and I tried a reset (home and lock button) but it just went through the restart back to a black screen again.
I tried it in a different USB port and possibly coincidentally, it now says on itunes
"the phone "xx iphone" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."
Now if I press the home button, the battery image comes up with minimal red bar. It does not go through the restart loop.
My thoughts - have I dropped it one too many times (as I had the day before) and the battery has come loose (won't charge)? If so I will pull it apart and have a look as it's 10 days out of warranty.
Should I try a DFU or Recovery mode whilst plugged into the mac? I have a back up on icloud but still chance to lose lots of data.
What do I try first or are there any other suggestions? And thank you for reading this long winded issue!

I ended up going to the Apple Store and they said it's a common problem. As my phone was out of warranty I had to pay for a refurbished one, but it still works 1 year later. Better than forking out $600 for a brand new one.

Cpu frequency scaling not working and hdd powers down

I recently made a fresh reinstall on my laptop keeping only my user settings (home directory) but no system-wide settings (/etc).
Now I have the following issues:
1) CPU frequency scaling does not work. KDE's PowerDevil tells me, my CPU does not have scaling capability and when I try to start cpufreq, I get this error message:

- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?

The governor modules are loaded:

This used to work out-of-the box with the previous install so I'm a bit puzzled.
2) My hard drive powers down after a few seconds of inactivity, just to power up a few seconds later when it's accessed again. The hard drive never powered down on my previous installation. I do not have any power management daemons running and this behavior starts right after booting the machine, before I log in.
I would like to disable this "feature" since I think it's rather bad for the hard drive's health as well as battery life.
Any ideas?:)
EDIT: Cpu frequency scaling is fixed now, forgot to load the acpi_cpufreq module.:rolleyes: There's still the issue with the hard drive, though.

The HDD thing is caused by upowerd, dunno why though.
You can try: hdparm -B 254 <disk device>, but that wont solve the problem permanently, only till you plug and unplug again the AC supply.
you can also try killing upowerd and things will (at least that was the case for me) be alright.
Maybe this is upowerd bug?

IPhone not charging and using more battery power while on charger and getting hot

I have an iPhone 4 and have had issues with it charging. This has happened 3-4 times over the past few months, where I put it on the wall charger prior to going to sleep and wake up with 17-20% battery power. Last night I placed it on the charger with approximately 70% battery power. I believe it charged to 100%, I left it on the charger and when I woke this morning the phone was hot (hotter than charging it with the USB) and the power was at 17%. Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this issue? After the iOS upgrade it did and I reset the phone, ran the power completely out and charged 100%. I don't have any more apps open than usual. Having a similar problem with my 3G IPhone. Battery life is fine but once I plug it in to charge it won't charge. I have to reset my phone and then it will start to charge as long as I unplug it and then plug it in again. This problem is something that is intermittent. I reinstalled the firmware but the problem did not go away. Something that I have noticed is that when this takes place usually the GPS function cannot find my current location at the same time. Once the phone is rest the GPS is fine. The fact that I have reloaded the firmware and the problem has not gone away leads me to think that this is a hardware problem. Well we will see soon I am going to take it in to get checked out. This is sort of annoying but I love the IPhone it is great!!!!

IPhone not charging and screen not turning on after battery died

The battery on my iPhone just died about 2 hours ago. I noticed the battery getting kind of hot. Normally when this happens, I let it run to 0% then recharge it to 100%.
After the phone died, I plugged it in (wall charger) and nothing came on the screen. I then plugged it into the computer and nothing came on the screen at all. I left it plugged in for about 20 minutes and still nothing on the screen but the back of the phone was getting really hot. I held the phone up to my ear and heard a slight buzzing noise from the earpiece (?) and when i took the cable out the noise stopped. The overheating kind of freaked me out but I looked extensively online and everything mentioned flipping the vibrate switch and holding the home and power buttons. I then tried restarting my phone while the phone is plugged in and again nothing showed up on the screen.
I tried all of this and nothing happened. As of now I've taken the phone off of the charger as I'm unsure what my next move is going to be. I won't be able to take it to an Apple Store until April so I'm pretty much screwed.
Anyone have anything else I can try?

I tried some of the easy fixes but none had worked so far. Since the last time my battery drained to 0% and turned off (yesterday), my phone has not turned on. I have plugged it into a working wall socket, and plugged it into my computer, and neither has worked. Please note it's been plugged in for more than 24 hours. I have tried rebooting it but nothing seems to work. I have checked the apple support topics and can't find any solution to this problem that has worked.
Also please note that my phone is not getting hot to the touch, nor is it making a "humming" noise.

I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for unexpected power off issues found in the article below.
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.

If it's still under warranty, Apple will fix it, but you have to send it to them, so you won't have it for several weeks. If the warranty is expired, they'll still do it, but you'll have to pay for it. Last I heard, it costs $99/S&H.
That is the ultimate defect in the iPhone. No other cellphone has a battery that is not user-replaceable. I won't buy a phone that doesn't.

It started giving me the prompt "this accessory does not support charging this device". I tried charging in my car, two separate wall chargers and on my MacBook Pro. Have never had a problem charging it before. When I would try to charge it, I would get a green battery icon with a plug in it, indicating the battery was fully charged. I now have it plugged into a wall charger, it shows the lighting bolt and nearly drained battery but the phone will not turn on. Any ideas?

When I try to power on, it goes to the battery sign with the lightning bolt underneath.
It has been on the charger for a while, and still no luck.

Inspect the charging port area for dirt/debris/fluff build-up that may be preventing a good connection and use a wooden toothpick, soft clean toothbrush, or a can of compressed air to clean it. Also look for bent or broken pins. Try another cable and/or charger block (be sure to always use a genuine Apple certified brand) in a known good outlet. If you're using a USB port, try another port. If you're using a hub, try a direct connection. If you're using a USB port in the front of a desktop computer, try one in the back. If all these fail, make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar to have the device evaluated.

Sounds like all the settings that you may have adjusted to save power (screen brightness etc etc) have been defaulted back to factory.
If you jump into all the settings and turn off what you dont need and turn down what you do need it will be the same as before.

Plug it into a wall outlet for at least 30 minutes, then try resetting it, again: Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
