IPhone 5 not pushing emails

I have a new iPhone 5 3 days old. I had my iPhone 4 backed up to iCloud and restored the 5 to the last backup. My 5 won't push email alerts through even though in settings/mail contact/ calendars the fetch new data is set every 15 mins and advanced is all set to push. If I manually click on the mail icon it downloads the latest messages but it won't do it automatically.  The 4 used to do it fine.
Please help as I desperately need my mail to notify me as soon as a new email comes through (for work)
Cheers

Even though you have Push set to on, I'm not aware of any POP accounts that actually push. I believe you are just getting your mail via the 15 minute Fetch that you have set. And if they were truly push accounts, you would not need to turn Fetch on.
If you send yourself an email from another device to one account that you say works, does it actually get pushed? What I mean is, do you receive the mail right away, or do you only get mail every 15 minutes as you set your fetch? If you go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Advanced, you should see all of your email accounts listed there. What settings do you have there, push, fetch, Manual? I believe only accounts that support Push will have a selection for Push. If set to Fetch, it will fetch on the schedule you have set there, and if set on Manual, they will only check for mail when you open the Mail client. See what settings you have there.

  • IPhone 4 vs Blackberry push email--i.e. is the iPhone TRUE Push Email?

considering hopping on the iphone train, however need to know something about push email that NOONE can answer (not even apple consultants at the store)!
issue: have blackberry now due to need to get emails and messaging immediately as it arrives in gmail and yahoo account, regardless of whether phone is asleep or not. can the iphone do this?
i keep getting the answer of you can go into account settings, select push, but then everyone is thrown for a loop when it comes to the push/fetch settings, i.e. 15 min, 30 min, hourly, manually, etc. e.g. no one can answer whether after the email is "pushed" to the iphone at minute 15 (if that is my setting), and i then get an email in my gmail or yahoo account at minute 16, if that email is immediately pushed to the iphone or i have to wait 'til the next 15 minute interval (or fetch it manually).
also, will the iphone wake from sleep to alert me to an incoming email as long as push is selected--regardless of other settings?
please help!!! and thanks in advance!!!

Apart from the "true push" aspect of email, one feature that is sorely lacking on the iPhone, one that for me is quite literally going to be the deciding factor to return to the blackberry, is the notification feature of true push email provided on the Blackberry.
I'm an on the go business professional. I manage several businesses along side my "day job." While my day job is the most critical, it has two facets and these have two different email addresses from different domains.
In short my device be it blackberry or iphone, has 11 domains address sending "push" email in various forms, pop, imap, and exchange. Of these 11, between the hours of 9-6pm 3 of these domains are absolutely critical that I respond within 15 minutes.
On the blackberry, I'm able to set sound profiles that will allow me to differentiate emails using sound by domain. So each of the 11 has a different sound tone as its alert. Without looking at the phone I can determine quickly if the message that was just "pushed" is of the 3 critical domains and take the appropriate action. Unfortunately, the iPhone doesn't have this feature, not natively, thus all mail gets the same tone.
I get about 30-40 messages an hour, it quickly becomes clear that I'm now tethered to the device just to weed out mail that is important, but not critical.
So factor that mail is not "true push" in all instances and that there isn't an ability to set unique alerts for the different addresses/domains, a great device is rendered inferior and an inferior device is heralded.
The apps that are available to address this, all require forwarding the mail message to a 3rd party. Not happening—Corporate would never allow or condone such.

  • Iphone mobileme push email

I have 2 Mobileme accounts. Both are setup on my Macbook Pro and my Iphone. However, in my Iphone only one of them allows for Push email. Both are paid for services and not trial accounts. Any workaround?

'Push-IMAP' isn't an Open Standard, so I'd avoid it. I'm not sure the iPhone supports Push-IMAP either (there where some rumours after the initial phone announcements that it would with Yahoo! mail).

  • Iphone not receiving emails

I have successfully entered my email account so that I can still access my .mac email account after the iCloud transition (without transitioning just yet). My phone works fine and is continuing to receive emails after June 30. But my husbands is not. His laptop is receiving emails, but his iPhone hasn't received any since June 30. Any ideas?

Double check Settings and make sure everything is valid. And just making sure, you are aware of the difference between push-Emails and a battery-saving alternative where you have to manually check of new mail.

  • Iphone not receving emails from specific sender

    Hi all,
not sure whether this is an iphone issue or email issue, but had to start somewhere.
I am using a mail.live (outlook) email account. I've notced that recently (since iOS update??) that I no longer receive emails on my iPhone from one particular sender.
If I log into same account via computer (PC or Mac) all the eamils from that sender are sitting in the inbox.
I still receive emails from other contacts that use the same email client server as the one that I'm having issues with.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I have junk folder disabled, and I even created a rule now that is supposed to redirect any mails from the sender to my inbox, but still no luck
By the way, the sender I'm not receiving emails from is called Jagex, a games company.

  • IPhone 4 Push email interval

Is it possible to change the interval to less than 15 mins?

What do you mean by "different ways" to push email? The very principle of the email push is, instead of your email client (Mail on the iPhone, Thunderbird on your Mac or PC, etc...) periodically polling your accounts for new messages using the username and password you've entered when you created your accounts, the server itself tries to contact your mobile device, and once a correct handshake has been performed, your phone downloads whole messages, or just the headers, depending on how you've set up your accounts in your email client. If you don't want to make to big a dent on your data plan with your mobile phone operator, you can choose to interrogate your accounts manually, or every hour. In any case, Mail usually won't fetch whole messages; it'll often leave pictures behind, depending on the account: on my AOL account, some newsletters aren't fully downloaded, only the headers. On my Hotmail account, every single email will only be downloaded as a header. I'll then have to click on the "Download the rest of the message" link at the bottom of the page to get the full messsage. I guess the differences can be attributed to the server settings your accounts use, but this would have to be confirmed by other users.
I don't use MobileMe, but I'm an avid Gmail and Yahoo! user, and I haven't noticed any incoherence in the data total displayed in my iPhone Settings/General/Usage tab. Now, maybe the right choice of server settings in your email client will let the server know how, when and how regularly new email should be pushed to your email client on your mobile device. For Google's Gmail, you can use Google Sync parameters from here:
    http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
As for Yahoo!, they usually provide good info right here: http://mobile.yahoo.com/mail/iphone

  • Not pushing email - MobileMe to iCloud

@Apple - please address this issue.  There is a plethora of others with the same problem.
    Gear: iPhone4 with iOS5.1.
After a mandatory switch from MobileMe to iCloud I have been experiencing intermitent success with emails being pushed to my iCloud.  Of course, MobileMe worked flawlessly.  Now, it appears as though someone is playing a cruel joke.  Sometimes they come through.  Other times I have to go into the mail app for iCloud to push incoming emails to me.
A "genius" at a store looked at me like I was an idiot and failed to come up with any sort of answer.  I could call apple support, however, I am not excited about paying $50 to get an answer that will most decidedly not help.
Why would apple ignore this issue (forums for 6 months on this very topic)?  We are your loyal customers.  We voluntarily paid $100 a year for MobileMe.
    PLEASE HELP!

I've been doing my own troubleshooting and can suggest the following. For us with mobileme migrated accounts, icloud servers are losing the push connection to our devices...specifically the iphones. Or, in some way, our mail app itself is being crashed by the icloud servers. As stated in other threads, if you double click home btn, hold down on mail app, then kill it with the x.......within a few seconds any latent emails will be pushed and "bing"...on ur phone it is.
What I have done is troubleshot to the point where I have added a second email account (non icloud/me.com) which appears to maintain the connection to mail servers or not allow the mail app to crash. I've done this by adding a hotmail account (and only it's mail slider is on) to my phone. The icloud me.com sliders are all on and my hotmail, mail slider only, is on.
So far, fingers crossed, push has not failed to either hotmail and icloud accounts. BTW, am only using 3G connection for these results. Have yet to swap between wifi and 3G. That might shoot my theory down.
Hope this helps fellow mobileme immigrants!!!!

  • Iphone not marking emails as read after opening in outlook/gmail

    Hi,
After opening emails in gmail & outlook, they are not marked as read on my iphone 4. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: Laurenkath

Check the account settings with Outlook which should reveal how you created and are accessing the account with Outlook.
If you used the Gmail account preset when creating the account with the iPhone's Mail app, the account was created as an IMAP account.

  • Why does my iphone not open email attachments?

Iphone 4S IOS6.1.3 has stopped letting me open email attachments such as  Word, Exel and PDF. Instead it throws up a dialogue asking me to open it in another application (like 'Mail' ironically). Other Word docs present themselves as 'winmail.dat' format attachments. what the **** is going on? I need the iphone to read office attachments like it used to. I have 'reset' iphone using power and home buttons. Made no difference.
    Anyone know the answer?

It could be for any number of reasons. Since you do not identify the computer OS you use, here is information for both.

  • IPhone Not Deleting Emails

Hi, my iPhone won't delete emails. It just says "unable to delete message to the trash folder" or something like that. It is a iPhone 3GS 32gb. The email servers are IMAP and .POP and there are 2 IMAP and 1 POP. any help greatly appreicated.
    Thanks

    You're welcome.
Unless your email account provider supports both, you must switch to another email account provider.
Apple's .Mac account can be accessed as a POP or IMAP account with any email client but is not free and not worth it unless you have a Mac.
Gmail recently began supporting IMAP account access. You can now access a Gmail account as a POP or IMAP account with an email client on your computer as well as with the iPhone's email client, it has an authenticated SMTP server which provides for being able to send messages with the account regardless how you are connected to the internet with your iPhone or with your computer, has a good spam filter on the server and is free.

  • Exchange Push does not push email UNTIL the email is read in Outlook!

I am having a really strange problem. I have an Exchange (work) account that was working great until recently. But in the last two weeks I noticed email stopped arriving on my iPhone. It appears an email is pushed onto my phone only AFTER I have opened the email on Outlook. Then it is immediately pushed onto the phone. Has anyone had a similar problem?
I have tried restarting the phone. I have also tried deleting the account and recreating it. None solved the problem. This is really frustrating.

that's weird. you might want to try a complete restore of your iPhone and set it up as a new phone rather than from a backup.

  • Iphone not pushing/pulling mail since iOS4 upgrade

I have an iphone 3GS and before I upgraded the operating system to iOS4, I had my phone set to automatically pull my mail to my phone. Now, since I upgraded, the phone will not pull my mail. I can click the refresh button, but it will just show connecting and never pull anything. The only way I can make it pull messages is to power the phone down and power back up. Is there anyone who is having this same problem since the upgrade?

I have found a way to fix this problem. All of the email accounts that you had before the upgrade will have to be deleted and re-added to your phone. That the only way I could get it back to normal.
