Iphone 5 Other capacity at 4.3 GB

I just synced my phone and I saw that my "other" storage tab is at 4.3 GB. I have a 16 gb iphone 5 and 4.3 gb is taking up a lot of space and I don't know what it is or how to get rid of it. I tried resyncing and unchecking the music and photo tab then syncing then rechecking them and syncing again but it went down like .6 gbs.

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • My iPhone's "Other" capacity has suddenly jumped to 56G out of 64G. Yes, you read that right. Every time I try to sync to recalculate, it gets worse! Please help! Can't even restore from backup now, since my backup is all "other"!

I have fully up-to-date everything on my iPhone and computer and iTunes. I have an iPhone5 and MacBook Pro. I synced my iPhone this morning and it has 12 or so gigs of free space (even with my music and some photos on it). Then I deleted some voice memos in iTunes, and wanted to sync again to reclaim the space. When I tried, it said I had 29G of "other" data and that my phone was way over capacity and can't sync. I tried a few online solutions to force it to recalculate, but now it says it is about 90% "other"!! Only 8G of 64G free, and "other" is the ONLY thing in the summary bar.
I un-checked music for syncing, thinking that must be the problem. It did not help.  Now there is nothing on my phone except "other", according to iTunes (not even photos).
I cannot restore from backup now, since the backup includes the giant "other". I don't want to delete my info on my phone knowing a corrupted backup is my only alternative.
    Help!

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

This solved my questionRe: What is "other" capacity in the iPhone?

A large "other" indicates corrupt files.  A restore should resolve.
Typically it is  a GB or less.

What is "other" capacity in the iPhone? I have 2.6 BG. Is there a way to remove it?

  • What is the iPhone "Other" capacity seen in iTunes?

What is the iPhone “Other” capacity seen in iTunes?

Other includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc.  It should generally be about 1GB.  If it's significantly larger than this it contains something corrupt; restoring the phone should resolve this.

  • What is going to stop my "other" capacity increasing every time i sync new videos to my ipad 2?

I have read several posts all indicating there is a big problem with syncing and "other" capacity increasing.
Everytime i change my video content (every few days) my "other" storage volume increases and total capacity decreases in line with the videos i've removed from the ipad. having done 2 or 3 syncs my other volume is up to 16gb. i am aware that performing a restore will fix this temporarily but i am not going to restore 64 gb of data every 2 or 3 syncs.
what is the proper and actual solution to this problem? (i.e. not restoring constantly)

  • Yellow 'Other' Capacity.

My iPhone 5 is taken up by 7.53GB of 'Other'. I don't have a ridiculous amount of contacts, calendar events, voice memos, notes, emails, saved safari pages or anything like that (especially after I went through and deleted half of them all to decrease the size of my 'other' capacity, not that it worked). I even restored my iPhone and it barely made a difference. I've tried everything that I've read on these discussion boards and none if it has seemed to help. I've read a few things about 3rd party apps and 'tmp lost files' or something but I have no idea what any of that means. I'm considering just taking my phone into an Apple Store and seeing what they have to say. Unless someone here can help me? This yellow bar is taking up over half of my phones full capacity.

"If i do that will I lose anything off my phone?"
    Yes.
You should make sure that everything is on your computer first

  • How can I transfer music from my iphone to other non apple devices

How can I transfer music from my iphone to other non apple devices ?

If this is music purchased through the iTunes Music Store, you would need to transfer the music to your computer using iTunes then transfer to the non-apple device according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Why would my Ipod Classic 160 GB (Late 2009) have remaining 224 MB or 0.20 GB of Used "Other" Capacity when everything else was restored to default as I intended?

I'm running the latest version of Itunes 10.3.1.55. I have updated the most recent update of Ipod software 2.0.4 PC. After a recent OS crash on a different PC running Vista I lost all files so upon this installation of Itunes I performed Restore to accept my loss of media and start a new library on this Windows XP SP3 PC. Upon restoring to factory settings, Itunes, and my ipod in the about menu say I have 224 MB of Used "Other" Capacity. This reads as 0.20GB on Itunes. I have 0 songs, 0 photos, 0 videos, 0 podcasts, 0 iTunesU, 0 Contacts, 0 notes, and the 3 default games which I assume are apart from the total capacity as they were the first time I plugged my Ipod in. The 0.20GB is part of my total available capacity taking it from 148.79 to 148.5 or so. I have restored 3 times, the first of which was when all my Ipod contained was 5.1 gigs of unknown to myself "Other" files. which it diminished to the 0.20 I am at now. I am confused as to why Restoring would eliminate all except whatever is left that I can't identify, when it cleared everything else that I intended it to. Any Ideas would be appreciated. This is not Urgent as I'm currently importing albums and expect them to sync correctly, and the used space is not significant, but I am confused as I've explored the disk in windows, and seemingly all but manually formatted the drive. It may even change after I sync for the first time again so I hope I haven't spoke too soon. If that is the case I will post when that time comes. Haven't seen this situation on the forums or on google search. If you want to take this task on, Good Luck!

my summary tab shows the total capacity of my ipod as 74.31 GB's with only 5 GB's of music and other on the ipod. What is taking up the other space? It should be showing a total capacity of 80 BG with 75 GB's left. What's up? Any body know?
All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.

  • This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or other iOS.

I have just upgraded my iPhone 4 with the recent upgrade to 5.0.1  - I get the response "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or other iOS".  I then get two options:  1)  Set up as new iPhone, or 2)  Restore from Back Up.  So I restore the device - but it returns to the page that says "SET UP iPHONE, and gives me the 2 options again - set up new phone or restore.  It will not sync my purchased apps onto the iPhone - my iPhone only shows bookmarkes saved.
When plugged into iTunes, it shows on the far left as my device plugged in, yet if I go to "FILE" - in the drop down menu, it shows "sync iPod" or "transfer purchases for iPod"  but not iPhone... and its shaded grey.  iTunes is up to date, and the phone is not jail broken.  iTunes still has all my apps stored there - but they will not sync to my phone.
I have also rebooted my iPhone by holding the HOME and POWER button down, then releasing the power button.  Nothing seems to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try setting it up as a new phone. There is probably something wrong with the existing backup.

  • My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.
If you open Airport Utility on one of the MacBook Pros, does it report any problems with your Airport device, and can you view/edit the settings on it?

  • Is there a way to make a video call from my iPhone 4 to a non apple phone? Also is it possible to transfer pics using bluetooth from iPhone to other company mobiles? Its a great phone but sometimes I feel struck inside it.

Is there a way to make a video call from my iPhone 4 to a non apple phone? Also is it possible to transfer pics using bluetooth from iPhone to other company mobiles? Its a great phone but sometimes I feel struck inside it.

You'd need an app like Skype to video call with other phones.
Data transfer is not supported via bluetooth and iphone to iphone is not supported at all.
