IPhone 5 overheating!

Hello, recently my IPhone has been overheating all the time just when doing simple things like surfing the web. When the back starts to overheat all these problems start up involving my music. All the sudden the phone either doesn't recognize that the headphones are plugged in and sound comes out the regular speakers or the headphones will be plugged in and even though the sound says that it's changing it never does. Also if I ever use the YouTube app usually one of the two apps(Music or YouTube) the sound on one will completely disappear. I've tried hard resets and that doesn't work, I've tried restoring the IPhone and that doesn't work, I've tried the paper clip trick to clean out the headphone jack to solve my audio problems and that doesn't work. I've tried every trick in the book and nothing works! I also never run that many apps at a time, I always make sure to turn them off when I'm done and I never let the phone sit in the sun. If someone could please tell me what to do fix this it'd be appreciated!

  • Iphone overheating where sim is

So my phone loses signal just by holding it at the top with fingertips I called to talk to Apple support but the guy was so rude I had to hang up in disgust. Now my phone is getting "burning" hot where the sims card is. I have never removed it so this makes me wonder. A few days ago it said no sim and I restart problem fixed. I am currently doing a restore as a last ditch effort because I was in a call for 10 minutes when my phone started to burn and then read no sim. I let it sit nothing. Eventually I pulled the sim card out and noticed a finger print and rubbed it down with a lint-free cloth put it back in and got 10 more minutes befoe it overheated and said no sim card again. I really hope Apple isn't going to leave me with a flakey device. Less than a week in I think this should qualify for some sort of lemon policy.

I'm thinking that's what I'm going to have to do. With my previous iPhones I have had no complaints with Apple. May be minor but they fedex'd me a new power cord because it was fraid. So I have good faith. =)

  • Why is my iPhone overheating,

My iPhone keeps overheating and the battery only lasts a couple of hours it becomes extremely hot to touch . What can I do with this?

Go to an Apple Store and get a replacement. Its almost always a hardware issue if your phone is getting hot, and it could be a safety issue if it gets too hot

  • IPhone overheated now won't work or even start

My IPHONE over heated from being in the car. Now it won't start. I tried rebooting it, but it wouldn't reboot.  The message on the IPHONE says to connect it to ITunes, but ITUNES wants to restore it, erasing all its data. Is there any way to save the data I have on my IPHONE?

If iTunes is prompting you it requires to restore the device then this will need to be done in order to fix up the phone being in Recovery Mode.
If a backup is present (you can check under Preferences -> Devices -> Backups within iTunes) then you can restore this backup to your restored iPhone to recover data. However if there is no backup listed then you will still need to restore the iPhone in order to get it working.

  • My iPhone overheated while I was using it. An  error icon same up on the lock screen and in place of the clock it was written 'Temperature' and in place of the wallpaper it was written "Your iPhone needs to cool down for normal use".  What to do?

The iPhone has become extremely hot where the camera is located and as one moves his hands away from the camera, the temperature gets cooler. Any solution?
It is so hot around the camera that I cannot touch it.

Leave the phone alone and let it cool down.

  • IPhone overheating, sending massive amounts of data after iOS 5 update

After finally upgrading to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 yesterday, I unplugged it and went to work today.  In 2 hours with almost no usage battery was down to 32%, phone was very hot, and checking my data usage it was up to nearly 1GB this morning.  I closed all apps except mail, phone and did a reboot.  Now, in the last hour it's used another 90MB.  What in the world could the phone be doing to cause this?

There's multiple threads in here already that cover this, but here's my take:
My wife's 4S has this issue as well (200MB plan) and it used 130MB in one night at 12am while we were asleep.  Interestingly my 4S does not have this extrenous 3G data usage.  So I turned off 2 settings with hers that will hopefully help, but will only know as time passes.
    1. Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data > Use Cellular > OFF
    2. Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Don't Send
I think #1 will definitely have an impact to cellular usage, I doubt #2 will do much.
Also, if you're really paranoid you can turn off photo stream and iCloud backup however, both of those say it will only use Wifi data for each but who knows...

  • New iPhone overheating on calls

Does anyone else;s new iphone overheat when on a call, it is getting very hot near your ear,

Seems like a faulty iPhone. It should over heat for 1minute phone call.
I talked on the phone for 1:30hour (conference call) on 3G and Wifi both on and its got warm but never too hot for the ear
Try a restore from iTunes and if that doesnt solve it, then make an appointment for the Genius bar and give them a visit
just wondering...are you using a case?

  • New iPhone Overheating

i got my new iPhone 4S a few months ago, and when i am using it, i will usually have only 1 to 3 apps open, but it starts to get hot, and then wont stop getting hot until i turn it off, and as soon as i turn it back on it starts to heat up again. anyone know a good way to fix this?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New..
    Restart... Reset  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Restore from Backup...  Restore as New  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • HT2101 iphone overheating with fusion stereo

I have a fusion 700 series marine entertainment system.  When I insert my 4S iphone into slot to play Pandora over speakers, it overheats in about 10 minutes and shuts down phone and system.  Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any fixes?

Make an appointment and take it in to Apple.  If it is getting that hot, something must be severely shorting internally to generate that much heat.  Apple will diagnose it for no charge.  If you are under warranty and it is a warranty issue, they will replace it.  Otherwise, you may have to pay the out of warranty exchange fee, but you'd get a like-new factory refurbished device in exchange.
I would turn it off and leave it off until you can get a hardware diagnosis done by Apple - that sort of heat has to be from an internal, physical fault.

  • Iphone overheating

Just got my iphone 4s out of my habdbag where it had been sat on the kitchen floor doing nothing for an hour or so to find it red hot! any ideas what might me causing it?
The battery only lasts about 3 hours tops these days so it is plugged into my computer a lot of the day but this was after it had been unplugged for over an hour and it was fine when I put it in the bag!

Hit the home button twice quickly and see if you have a bunch of apps running.
Also, try this web page from apple for general battery tips, it may also help

  • My iPhone overheated whilst charging, and won't let me turn it on or charge anymore. What can I do?

I was using my iPhone 4, with the Skype app open, when the iPhone overheat message popped up. I let it cool down before I began using it again, only to find that it won't charge, and now the charge's completely exhausted, I cannot open my phone at all, and I cannot get it charged either. What can I do?

    Hello Eena23,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone 4.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.

  • IPhone overheating while browsing safari + listening to iPod!!

Hey everyone! I wanted to see if anybody is experiencing this problem too. At night I lay in bed and browse on safari, listen to the iPod, while having it plugged in and charging. After about 10-15 min of this my iPhone gets very hot, almost hot to the touch. I'm not sure if this is a "charging" issue or that I am using several apps while being charged it’s just an overload? I do notice the top of my iphone getting very hot while on edge for long periods of time, but this issue is with the whole backside of the phone. Anyway.. way it will become very hot and then my music just turns off. The iPod feature crashes, and I have to go back to the ipod and start playing it again, just to have it crash within 5 min or so. I believe this is some sort of stress issue maybe just too many things going on at once? Never the less, it better be able to multi task for $600. Anyway does anybody else have this issue? -Jason

Hey guys thanks for the reply's! I only notice it while its plugged in and charging of course. I just sat here for about a half hour browsing the net while listening to music without it plugged in and it doesnt do it. It also doesn't get as hot. What do you mean by reset? If your meaning hold down the sleep + home button until the phone shuts off, then yes i have tried that, same thing happening. Thanks for your help and time any other ideas?

  • Bad pixels on iPhone when playing video

Hi! I have just purchased the iphone and am facing a peculiar problem. When I play video in either youtube or Safari (quicktime), after a while, the video quality deteriorates, i.e. a lot of bad, discoloured pixels start appearing. And this only happens with video playback. The discolouration does not appear if I switch to viewing photos etc.
Is this a common problem? Is it related to the iPhone overheating? Should I go to the iStore and get my phone replaced?
    Would appreciate any thoughts/answers.
    Thank you!

I've had issues with stuck pixels and The Apple Store agreed for an exchange. Using your iPhone, point your Safari browser to this site to check for bad pixels: http://www.ebaspace.com/iphone-app/#_home
That's the sure way of finding out. And if you have it, just go back to your local Apple Store and use the same website to show the person from the Genius Bar.

  • Iphone case concerns

I have two cases for my iPhone, one is a hard plastic case from In Case, the other is a rubberized case from Speck. My question -- my phone seems to get really hot when it's in either of the cases. Should I be concerned about my iPhone overheating?

    cyberspastic,
The iPhone battery can definitely suffer from being too hot and not being able to "breathe" in a case. This is found on the [iPhone's battery page|http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html]:
    *Let It Breathe*
Charging your iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.
If you notice those two cases are causing the iPhone to become fairly warm during use, try using the iPhone without the cases to see if your issue reoccurs.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Iphone 4 scratching

Hello, recently I recieved my Iphone 4 a week ago. While at a friends pool, I decide to leave my iphone 4 on a side table. My iphone overheated and recieved the temperature warning on the phone. Realizing this Iimmediatly pulled my phone out of its case(Incase slider for Iphone 4) and set it in a sunless area to cool down. My phone seemed okay after that day but 3 days later I started noticing small scrathes on my iphones front glass panal. These scratches were odd due to the fact that I have not done anything rough with my phone. I take good care of it and make sure to cover the front sceen with a microfiber cloth wherever i go(yes it sems strange but i hate finger prints on the screen). I deduced that it was scratched from daily use. So all in all, my question is that is it possible the overheating could have made the front glass panel more suspectable to scratching?

This is very interesting. The same thing happened to me as far as the overheating, i had left the phone in my shoe while playing soccer and was unable to use it only after it had cooled off! I do not see any scratches anywhere on my screen, could just be a freak occurrence or something wrong with the phone. Even in a technologically advanced world that we live in it is possible to make a product that isn't always 100% perfect. Although Apple does do a good job about 99.9% of the time!
