IPhone 5 power button issue

I got my 16GB iPhone 5 in December. It has just recently, within a month, began to show problems with the power button. Initially, the right side of the power button had stopped working, and I had to push down on the left side in order to sleep/wake or power off/on. Yesterday, the entire power button became inoperable. I now have resorted to Assistive Touch to sleep/wake and power on/off my iPhone 5. If I bring this phone to my local Genius Bar, will they replace my phone? If they will replace my phone, I was wondering about something. Could I ask for a 32GB iPhone 5? Would they allow that? I would be willing to pay money for it.

This is a common issue with iPhone 4/5. They will replace your phone if its a "hardware" issue. If you are not in your warranty time frame anymore, they charge you $20 just to talk to them basically. They will not upgrade your phone to a 32 GB either. If you have insurance on your phone, its about $100 to replace it. Since you said you got it in December, you should be in your warranty time frame. I would go quickly. They try to get out of replacing their products.

  • IPhone Power Button Issues

I bought my IPhone from Verizon at the end of May 2011.  Yesterday the power button on top started sticking and has become difficult to press down.  First, should I bring it into a Verizon store or an Apple store?  Second, is this something that will be covered within the one year warranty.  I have a case on my phone and did not drop it before the button started sticking.

Apple Store. As long as there is no evidence of physical damage from a drop or other traumatic event, the phone will be replaced under warranty.

  • IPhone 5 Power button issues after recent update.

After this most recent update, my power button is not working as it normally does.  It takes two or three attempts to turn the phone off and more than once to turn it.  Sometimes it turns on and immediately turns off.  This is happening only after this update.

Yes 7.1.2  I had a 7.1 backup, and no issues with that... but then I did a clean DL of 7.1.2 and once again with NO apps on the iphone power button issues... as mentioned.  So it is not the apps, nor songs, nor anything else...just 7.1.2  I am now running 7.1  no issues.

  • HT1430 iPhone 4S Power Button Issue

I have an iPhone4S that has fallen to the broken power button issue - is there a way to restart it without the power button? My phone is acting strange and I know if I restart it then it will be ok. I am already using the Accessibility feature to lock the screen, but cannot figure out how to restart it short of letting the battery run out.

I have the same issue.... just hold down the lock screen button on your accessibility menu until it shows you the power down option.  Then plug the charger in & it will automatically turn back on.

Hi, my product is under warranty and has a power button issue. Greek dealer doas not support it becouse I bought it from the us. wharT shall  I do.Thank you

It can only be serviced in the country where it was originally sold.  Take it back to the US or send it to someone you know there to take it in for service.

  • IPhone 5 power button issue .Apple store can't help !

I have an issue with my power button on my iPhone 5.It works perfectly sometimes and sometimes it doesn't .I have to press it 2,3 times to get it work .I took it to the Apple store and it worked perfectly there so they said they can't replace it unless they see the problem and they are right . But I don't know what to do it does it sometimes ,how am I going to go there in the right time .Do you have any other suggestions ? Thank you.

You can try calling an Apple support number for your location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and see if they can help.  Otherwise, when it starts acting up take it to an Apple store genius bar.
But try the support line first and see what help they offer.

  • My iphone power button is not working. What can I do?

Hello, I bought an iphone 5 last year and it still in warranty . It has some regular scratches for the use but it never felt down.
The power button is not working now and I sent to an apple retailer here in Brazil (SOMA - Revenda APPLE Solution Expert e Assis. Tecnica Autorizada) to fix it. They refuse to do it saying that the button is not working because of  the scratches what I believe is not true. And the retailler suggest to me to buy a new one.
And more, I receive the iphone with the factory configuration and I don’t know why.
I would know what can I do to fix the iphone. And How can I use the warranty here in Brazil.
I couldn't find an e-mail from apple.com support to report this.
I will stay in US next december. I can fix my phone in an Apple Store?
I'm very dissapointed with the technical assistance here in Brazil.
    Thank You

Meaning that you cannot restart or reset the phone?  If you haven't tried already, try both options.
Otherwise, you can do a backup & restore, or even a restore as new (only after a successful backup).
If the issue persists, then look at a replacement. Either it will be a hardware defect (free if within warranty), or physical damage ($49 with AppleCare Plus, $149 without it.)

  • Strange iPhone 3g Button Issue

I have a bit of a problem with my iphone 3g (bought on day of release Aug 08). Basically, I was using it yesterday, listening to a podcast or somesuch and for some reason when I tried to operate it I discovered that the hold/power button had stopped working at all (it doesn't do anything, even if I try to do a reset).
My first thought was that there is a hardware issue and that there was a loose connection for some reason (I'm pretty careful with my iphone and have never dropped it or anything) but I then discovered that the volume buttons and silent switch had also stopped working completely.
Since I discovered this, I have tried doing a total restore and have left it over night but to no avail, the buttons are all not working still, though the Home button does still work. Has anybody got any thoughts or ideas? I'm guessing I will have to go to the Apple Store to have them tell me there is nothing they can do as their products should only work properly for a year but would love to avoid the heartache.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks neuroanatomist, I appreciate your advice, I figured that may be the case, I was just wondering because of the fact that more than one physical button stopped working and nothing happened to the iphone that might suggest a change. I will probably have to shell out for a replacement I'm sure, just a bit disappointed that the phone hasn't even lasted the length of my contract with O2 (I'm in the UK). It's pointless bleating I know, but as someone who owns 3 macs, an iphone etc, it's at times like this I wish there was a viable alternative.
Does anybody know how much the out of warranty replacement costs in the UK? Or if they even offer it?

  • IPod Touch Power Button Issue?

I have an 8GB 1st Generation iPod Touch (The one without the camera, power button on the left side instead of the right, yada yada yada). I've had it since Christmas, and it's run perfectly well, until yesterday. I began to notice that the power button (the small button at the top) was sticky. Not stuck, but simply sticky. Instead of having to tap it and add a slight pressure to get it to turn on, turn off, lock, ect, I now have to push down so hard that it leaves imprints on my fingers, not to mention that it doesn't always respond, as if it's jammed, and if I'm not very persistent it will lock, but not turn off. I have to try three or four times to turn it off using the power button, though occasionally the screen will flicker like I'm hitting the button multiple times. It's not like the button is stuck - I can still use it, but it's sticky. I was wondering if there is any solution that doesn't require sending my iPod in?
If you need any further explanation feel free to let me know, I'll be willing to tell you. Sending my iPod in isn't a problem really, though if there's a simple fix that I'm not aware of (seeing as this is my first iPod) I'd be much more willing to keep it here.

    Hi,
I have an 32G 2nd generation iPod touch with a problematic on/off button, and I'm not sure this is a physical problem at all.
My touch worked perfectly well until the version 3.0 update, and then I started having problems with the on/off "wake/sleep" button.
I often have to take 3 or 4 attempts to turn the screen off, and then when it does turn off it comes back on again with the "red bar" to switch it off. This is only supposed to happen when you purposely hold down the on/off button, but it does it when it feels like it now!
Like I said, it worked perfectly well on the version 2.0 software, but you couldn't possibly get into DFU mode to return it to version 2 because holding onto the button no longer seems to get the "red" bar to come up, so I've no idea where I am with it! It drives me nuts, but I'm almost positive it's an issue with the software.
Yes, I've tried a restore on several occasions, and turning it off and on so many times I can't count, but the problem never goes away!
I've asked Apple several times to deal with the issue, but they've had at least 6 attempts now, and nothing has been done about it. My Touch will now be stuck on 4.1 forever as I can't get iTunes 10, because I have an old mac that's on 10.4.11.
I'll have to live with it as it is, as I can't afford to upgrade, and I don't want to anyway because it works perfectly well, EXCEPT for this one annoying issue.

  • Iphone power button doesn't work and LED is on

Have a black 64gb iphone 4s, (ios 6.1.3), no case - for about 1yr4mo.  last week i fell asleep on the phone and when i woke up, the power button wasn't working.  I left the phone plugged in for the rest of the night, and when i got up it was working again.  Last night I once again fell asleep on my iphone, and woke up to find both the power button not working AND the LED light is stuck on... its kind of like at maybe 5% brightness.  I put the phone in a bag of rice for the rest of the night, but this morning now, the light is still on and LED still on.  Phone never officially got wet, but I suspect there was enough moisture to potentially cause problems.
phone is out of warranty and i'm trying to figure out how long i wait until i start poking around at it to see if i can do anything with it...
    anyone have any ideas?

    Hi, bruno7.
    1. Have you tried "Mac OS: Apple Pro Keyboard Shortcuts for Shut Down and Restart"?
    2. What changes did you make to your Mac before this problem arose?
    3. Are you using FruitMenu? If so, check for updates, disable it, or uninstall it.
    4. After you next shut down, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    5. An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    6. If none of the above, when you attempt to select Shut Down or Restart from the Apple menu and nothing happens, immediately check the ends of these Console logs for clues.
    Good luck!

  • Lenovo T410 does not power on due to keyboard / power button issue.

I have a Lenovo T410 which has been exhibiting keyboard issues (several keys have failed and I've been using an external keyboard).
It seems that the keyboard failure is affecting the powering up of the machine. Occasionally it will turn on, most of the time it will not.
I've submitted an eService request for this and the status is "Solution Provided" but the "SO Status (as shown on ICSS)" is "On Hold" "Order on hold, pending update" (per: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074324 ). This has been the case since the 28th of last month.
I've confirmed it is a keyboard failure by swapping a keyboard from a T420 (which, ironically, had a service request fulfilled fine around the same time).
    I have two questions:
    i) most urgently, is there *any* way I can power the machine on without using the keyboard?
ii) what do I do about the service request's "On Hold" status? this machine is out of action and key to our work.

    i) There are three ways to power on the laptop without the power button.
    a) Use a dock.
    b) Check under BIOS menu (if possible) under power, to see whether you have something called 'Power On with AC Attach' feature. If you do enable it, and save then exit. What this do, is that it will power on the laptop when you connect the power plug into the laptop.

    c) remove the CMOS battery, and power on the laptop by attaching the power adapter to the laptop.

  • IPhone Power Button

Hello, yesterday i dropped my iPhone in the rain and it stayed for a good 20 mins. i made a appointment with genius bar, we went over the iPhone water sensor being changed and how i cannot get a new one. They said the best thing to do would be to put it in rice and give it time. at that point the problems were: backlight, touchpad wouldn't work, would not power up, sim reader wouldn't detect card, camera wasn't detected, "This accessory was not made for iPhone" nothing was plugged in. After it dried i plugged it in and it would work. Just about everything was fixed. now my problems are:
~The power button: Biggest problem, it will not work... half of it is stuck down and none of it will work.
~Home button: I'd say this is fixed, but the first time i plugged it in today every time i pushed it it would take a screenshot instead of returning home, i restarted it and it was fine.
~+I cannot boot it without it being on the charger, even though it indicates full power..... When off the only way i can do anything would be to push the home button (as the power one doesn't work) that takes me to the apple boot logo for a good 5 secs, then it restarts... this goes on in a ever lasting loop, theres no stopping it.+
    Any suggestions?
right now a good way to turn it off would be nice....

    Hello starsell,
Allan has described your options pretty well.
It seems possible that the drop into the water may have damaged the sleep/power button as well. There may be third party companies that can repair the button itself, however, you may want to read my post regarding liquid damage in this thread before you consider having the iPhone repaired by another party:

Purchasing a new iPhone may be your best option in the long run,
