IPhone 5 Purple Flare

when the camera works some times, displaying pink lines, but last times i havent seen this problem,is this software or hardware problem?

What you describe has nothing to do with software, and nothing to do with hardware. It is a fact of life that all serious photographers know about; it is caused by "lens flare" and happens on every camera when the light source's angle of incidence is less than the angle of refraction of the lens material. It is purple on the iPhone because the lens is made of sapphire crystal; on other cameras it may be white, or other colors depending on the lens coating. To mitigate lens flare photographers use a lens hood that keeps the light source from striking the lens directly, or arrange themselves and the camera so the light source is behind the camera.
It is more pronounced on the iPhone because the lens has no protection from the light source striking the lens directly (that is, the lens isn't recessed). So it is your job as the photographer (as it would be with any camera) to keep the light source from reaching the lens directly. You can do this by buying a lens hood for the iPhone camera (they exist), keeping the light source at your back, or, if you can't, by holding a hand between the iPhone and the light source (but not in front of the lens, of course).
There have been a number of articles (including one by David Pogue, technology editor for the NY Times) about lens flare and cell phone cameras. It can be seen on any camera, but especially cell phone cameras (regardless of manufacturer) because the lens is usually flush with the back of the camera and thus has no protection from the light source (or a bright reflection of the light source) from striking the lens directly.

  • Purple flare help? (iOS 6   iPads   iPhone 4S And 5), Purple flare help? (iOS 6   iPads   iPhone 4S And 5)

    Hello!
May I ask a favor from people who have:
    - New iPhone 4S (bought after iPhone 5 launch day)
    - Old iPhone 4S (bought prior to iPhone 5 announcement)
    - iPhone 5
Please take pictures of direct sunlight/focused to the sun AND indoor lighting/focused to the lights in the ceiling, BECAUSE, here's my problem.
I've heard about the iPhone 5 purple flare issue. There were multiple guesses on why, it was either a camera software flaw, (as Apple said) the thin and sleek design of iPhones nowadays and, the sapphire lens cover.
At first, I was like, it was both a camera software flaw and because of the sapphire crystal lens cover. Then, I didn't mind it at all until when I went outing with my family: I randomly took pictures with my iPad 2 (WiFi+3G, November of 2011, yes, last year) focused on the sun and found a purple color present and recently used the iPad as my camera for my school field trip, and it still had the purple on it. I started thinking the purple thing is from the software the camera is offering and using, but I also was considering that the purple color wasn't as wide, thick and large like the one in iPhone 5 compared to my iPad. When the iPad mini was released, there were vloggers in YouTube posting videos about the 5MP 1080p iSight camera tests of the iPad mini. There were still purple colors of the sun's corona in them. I went iPod touch 5MP iSight camera tests and still saw the same thing, the purple lining. In fact, there were pictures of the iPhone 4S suffering from the purple color, which I assume that the iPhone 4S is running iOS 6 that time, I'm not sure though, it may be iOS 5.
So after seeing all these, I've thought, there was one commonality, they were all iOS 6 devices (as I said, not sure with the case of the 4S) But I then considered the larger purple ones in iPhone 5. So I was analyzing, and I came up with this:
    — The purple color is produced by the camera software provided by iOS 6, a flaw or something.
    — A larger purple color is much more prominent in iPhone 5 because of it's sapphire lens cover.
    — The sapphire lens cover in iPhone 5 captures thicker flare than ones in iPhone 4S and iPads, iPod touches.
    — Meaning, the purple color is present in the thick and extra area of flare, whatever the iOS device is.
    Tell me what you think.
If you want me to explain further through a video or image explanations, tell me! :)
Thank you for reading this concern of mine. I hope you take my suggestions and investigations into consideration.

Do what profestional photograpers do, dont point your camera at bright light sources...

  • When you take photos, is there a purple flare? I've heard a lot of complaints about this.

I want to buy the new iPhone 5, but I've heard that when you take a photo in the outside, it appears a purple flare in the image. Is it a really big issue? Do you reccomend me to buy it? Or should I wait to the next phone?
    Thanks!

The effect exists, but is probably overblown.
    Apple acknowledges it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4436
It is simply poor photographic technique to shoot into the sun, unless you are seeking to achieve an artistic effect by doing so. The light source should ideally be behind the photographer, or at least off to the side.
The iPhone is not the only phone susceptible to the problem:

  • IPhone - purple screen and can't update or restore

    Hi!
I can't find any post that answers my problem so hopefully someone can help as it's been really frustrating! This morning I got the purple screen asking for me to plug my iphone into iTunes (I have the option for emergency calls). I was running a valid beta of OS3.0 and hadn't had time to upgrade on the 17th. So I assume the beta had expired.
I plugged my iphone into my PC and sure enough, iTunes (8.2) told me I needed to upgrade as the version I was running had expired. So I clicked on update but iTunes tells me that I am running the current version and that no updates are available. I'm confused!! I thought I could perhaps restore the phone but it tells me a restore is not possible when I try it. So this leaves me stuck with an iPhone that won't work and iTunes that can't make up its mind if I have the right version of OS 3 or not.
Anyone shed any light or help with this?!
    Thanks you

    This has been sorted!
Spoke to Apple's very nice and patient Developer's team again. They gave me different advice this time and told me just to run through the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
They had given me different advice before as, they said, some of the beta versions required additional steps and downloading of carrier files etc

  • IPhone 5 purple smudge in Camera photos

I recently bought the iPhone 5 and am loving it so far, but recently a purple smudge began to appear when using the camera.  I went to my wireless carrier since it was within the period of time to exchange and they said it is a software issue? The problem is that this purple smudge moves around when I tap the camera  lenses. Is it truly a software issue? It's not the purple flare issue that I have.

I have had this issue before and am currently getting it again now.
It is not software. I had my first iphone 5 replaced due to mould growing on the lens. Causing smudges on my photos. My replacement iphone 5 is currently growing mould and i have a genius bar appointment tonight to have it replaced again.
Screw your carrier, they know nothing, take it closet apple store and have it replaced.

appears to be a hardware issue.. not a software issue. whats apple going to do to fix this?!

I've got a SERIOUS issue with this. I take between 500-800 pics A DAY. I make my living taking pictures and the 4S never had this issue (starting to wish I'd kept it). It's not just this. Black is much more like a Dk Gray than it was before with the 4S. I have a few days to return it (Day One - PreOrder). For someone to say this is "Normal" and to angle away from the light source is ZERO help when you are shooting interiors (Autos) and surrounded by Windows.
Not happy with this aspect of the New 5.
I do about 600 pics a day between work and personal, both indoor and outdoor.  I gave up and switched back to my 4S.  No issues.  I would recommend either returning yours, or else selling it online (currently selling on eBay for a large markup), buying a 4S, and waiting until they do a silent update to fix the purple flare issue (or holding out for the 5S, aka rev2).
A lot of people online are saying to just buy a dSLR - I have a dSLR, and this is a non-issue on my dSLR as well as my 4S.  All cameras suffer from the "purple" chromatic aberration issue; the problem here is that it's just excessive to the point of being noticeable (and annoying).  Don't drive yourself nuts over it.  Go find another 4S and wait it out.

  • Youtybe and other browser videos load super slow on my iphone

Have anyone come across the problem when your youtube and other browser videos loads super slow. It is really frustrating and even the samsung galaxy s 2 loads faster than my iphone 5
I don't if this is only on iphone 5 or other apple products so if you have a solution for please tell me
and iphone 5-ios6 seems to have so many problems such as battery degeneration, purple flare and pixelated camera, maps , alarm clock and many other more
    Thankyou for you solutions...

I am experiencing this issue also, and it seems to be specific to wifi only.  Both the app and website produce the same slow loading video.  Also, oddly enough, cellular will load faster despite it's slower speed.  It was rumored that Safari's cache had something to do with it (being that wifi causes the videos to load in high definition/high quality).  If you clear your cache (settings, safari, and clear history and clear cookies and data), it temporarily fixes the issue.  However, this will only get you through 1 or 2 videos before it returns.  Others have tried using different DNS settings (the DNS of your ISP or opendns), but it never seemed to work for me.  Still, many others have suggested running your router in WEP mode, which may have had some affect.
Try all the suggestions and see if it improves.
I also forgot to mention that wifi speed on every other use outside youtube is fine.

  • Is there an app to replace itunes on iphone

The new itunes10 app appeared on my iphone -- purple instead of blue-- and now it only displays songs purchased in the itunes store.
Anything I have ripped from my purchased cd's do not show up in the app. Basically my iphone is now just a phone. I use it mostly for music so this is really getting annoying. No notice of this change. After many hours of trying many different things I'm really just looking to kill the itunes app. There must be another app out there to take your music from your mac and transfer to your iphone to listen to it?
    Is there?
I already know I'm moving to an android this fall as I'm so tired of this problem child of a phone. Rim! Why couldn't they get in the game!!
If you know of an app, please reply, I miss my music.
    Thx

Calm down and read the manual. All your music in now in the 'Music' app and videos are in the 'Video' apps. iTunes has always just been a media store, it has never been used to play music from. I think you are confusing this with the now defunct 'iPod' app.
P.S. The iTunes app icon has always been purple on the iPhone.

  • Does anyone know if the "Camhoodie" works well?

This is the special case designed to help reduce the purple flare from Iphone 5 camera.

Not a good sign, if you ask me. Check ilounge.com. They reveiw iPhone and iPad accessories. I've found their reviews to be pretty reliable.

  • TS4436 Do you think this is a fair behavior?!? I think not!!

What do you think about silly argumentation explaining purple flare in iPhone 5 camera?!?

If you don't like your iPhone, return it for a refund.
It is your iPhone. What others think of your iPhone is of no consequence to you or anyone else.

    iPhone: Camera image effects
    Symptoms
A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.
    Resolution
Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.
Summary: Don't shoot into the sun.
