IPhone 5 - Ringing out volume

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with there iPhone 5, for some reason when dialing out I barely could here the ringing out noise. I have put the volume to max so not sure if its a network issue or a phone issue. I also cannot hear someone properly at the other end. Did not experience this issue with another network / iPhone I was using prior to the iPhone 5.
Although, have noticed in certain areas its very faint which makes me think its an issue with the network I am on, which is currently Three.
Thanks

Me, being stupid
Took off the screen protector and it works ok.

  • Why is my iphone automatically lowering ringer & incall volume settings?

My wife and I purchased our iphones from two different AT&T stores. The volume setting keeps lowering itself to the lowest setting for both the ringer and in-call conversations. I actually saw it in action the other day. I looked at the screen and the ringer icon appeard showing full volume. Then it automatically lowered itself, deleting the small white square (that indicate volume setting) from right to left until there was only one square remaining on the left.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

I think it has something to do with "Sound Check" ... There's a setting under iPod with an On/Off slider labeled Sound Check. The manual describes it as "Set iPhone to use the iTunes volume settings" (p.65).
I had a problem where, the volume level would drop down by itself to a very low level, making my ringer sound barely audible. I was missing calls all over the place! Well, it turns out that in iTunes > Preferences > Playback, there is a "soundcheck" check-box. Soundcheck apparently adjusts the volume of your computer so that one audio track sounds as loud as another, even if they were recorded at different levels.
My theory, which I'm still testing with my iPhone (so far so good!), is to uncheck Soundcheck in iTunes, and turn off the on/off slider for the iPhone's iPod Soundcheck setting. What I think might be happening is that something about Soundcheck on the iPhone is not working right, perhaps the Soundcheck thinks the iPhone stock ringer tones have a sound level that is way top high, and so Soundcheck is compensating by setting the volume level on the iPhone super-low.
And with Soundcheck off in iTunes and on the iPhone, I'm not noticing any volume issues ... if the volume of some podcast is too low, I manually turn up my laptop or iPhone volume, big deal!
This may be a situation in which an automatic feature designed to eliminate the need for the user to do something that is not a big bother anyway, causes more unexpected problems than it solves.
So, so far, this has worked for me, but I want to give it a few days just to make sure something else isn't also in play. I'd love to hear if my theory and turning off Soundcheck everywhere solves the volume-level-drops-by-itself-on-the-iPhone mystery!

  • Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can not figure out why there is NO sound when I get a text?

Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can't not figure out why it does not make a sound, when I receive a text or typing???

    Deborah,
The solutions on here did not work for me.   I tried.....
I have the same problem with a BRAND NEW iPhone 5c version 7.1- no sound when a text message arrives.
    (1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.   No partial moon on the main screen near the time and battery indicator.
    (2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash.    Yes I turned the hardward mute switch to the UP position (ie the one above the + and - buttons on the left side.   I tried messaging with the bell as shown and bell with a slash and neither work.   The mute switch is not red (switch above the + volume hardware switch)     I enabled some assistant using the Settings menu.    And I press the dot (looks like a target symbol) and go to Devices and I can see what position the bell is in....either a bell with a slash or no slash.
    (3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I am under settings > sounds.   But they do not link with the actual hardware.
    (4) I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
    (5) I upgraded the IPhone 5c from 7.0.4 to 7.1 using my pc and itunes.   And the upgrade was successful but did not fix the text issue.
    (6) I do not have it in airplane mode or silent mode.
    (7) I reset all settings using Setttings > General > reset > reset all settings .  this wipes settings but not data and media.
    This is really frustrating.

    Hi nitramred,
To start troubleshooting this issue where you are unable to adjust the volume after receiving a call, please go ahead and first force close all of the apps currently running on the device, and then reset it by following the steps in the articles below.
iOS: Force an app to close
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    Take care,

  • I have tried everything to get my iPhone 4S to ring out loud. It will only vibrate.

I have tried everything to get my iPhone to ring aloud. It will vibrate when someone calls but it will not ring at all. Please help me!! Thanks

You have gone to Settings > Sounds and the volume is set at a high level, you have selected a Ringtone for the sound, and it still does not ring?  Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
If that does not help, visit an Apple store genius bar and have the iPhone tested to see if there is a hardware failure.

  • My iphone keeps cutting out when i ring people and people cant hear me when i speak what could it be?

when i ring people my iphone keeps cutting out, it connects but i can hear them talking but they cant hear me talking :s

    Hey Ciara,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues with others being able to hear you while on calls, the issue seems to be resolved by using speakerphone. This makes sense, as speakerphone utilizes a different microphone. I would advise you to take a look at the following articles:

  • Iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down

iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down?

    Hi cainstigator,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's volume setting not staying the way it should, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • My phone will ring but when you answer there is no sound, no sound when ringing out either??

my phone will ring but when you answer there is no sound, no sound when ringing out either??

    Hey dannibananny,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with the receiver on your iPhone 4. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
iPhone: Receiver and call audio quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5196
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Increase the volume during the call.
    2. Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver. If you're using a protective case or display film, remove it and try again.
    3. Make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack or the dock connector.
    4. Check the receiver opening to see if it is clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
    5. Try another location with better signal. If the audio issue happens only when on a call, it could be due to the location.
    6. If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or a car kit, try turning off Bluetooth on your device. Learn more about troubleshooting Bluetooth connections.
    7. Restart the iPhone.
    8. Make sure your device is up to date.
    9. If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Volume of microphone button inaudible when pressed when overall volume on high and all other sounds/ringer/alert volume working fine! Is there a way to fix this? Was working fine yesterday.

Hello, the volume of my microphone button in text messages is inaudible when pressed, even when my overall volume is on high and all other sounds/ringer/alerts volume are working fine! Is there a way to fix this? Was working fine yesterday. I've tried rebooting and turning Siri on and off, and can't think of what else to do. All googling results in posts about the mic not recording sound loud enough or not working. My mic works just fine; it does the job of recording, but I want the chime to be loud so I don't have to look at the screen to know when I can speak; I like to hear the chime to alert me. Any help is appreciated!

I agree with you about the volume on the phone itself. (I have 3Gs). It needs to be louder. I also wear hearing aids. However I do think there may be something wrong with your phone because when I connect my earbuds (Klipsh) I get very good volume through them. In fact at full volume it's way too loud. I would push for a replacement phone.
FWIW, my daughter (who also wears hearing aids) has trouble hearing her iphone. It appears to have more to do with the speaker not being lined up with the hearing aid's input. Her audiologist pointed out that some current hearing aids support bluetooth, I think we will get those next time we replace her hearing aids.

  • Line out volume ?

    hello there,
iPhone seems to ignore the volume control when using the line out (base station)... Any clue why does this happens ? I was able to plug my previous iPod on my car but now the P2 cable dont fit the iPhone jack so I have to use the line out jack. Having volume always on max is disturbing

AFAIK, Line level is an industry standard (or theoretically standard) 'level'. Everything that outputs to line level should register on say a mixing desk as the same volume.
There could be one or two things happening here. Either the iphone's line out is weak and not outputting the right signal, or it could be the system's your're plugging into.
Line level connections are a bit like scart connection on yout tv. It bypasses the tuning circuitry of the output device and the tv to give a higher quality signal. Line level bypasses the heaphone amp of the iphone and often the 'pre-amp' of the speaker system going straight to the power amp. So bypassing 2 levels of amplification.
Maybe your bose soundwave has an internal pre-amp for the radio, cd etc which for some reason the line out doesn't go through.
I have a small Sharp HiFi (from the days when minidisc ruled) that has a seemingly weak line input. I've tried all manner of devices through it, but they are all much quieter than the built in radio, cd and md.
You could try either the headphone out like I say that uses the built in headphone amp to boost the signal, or perhaps look for an external preamp.
you could find out if the iphone's line out is def weak if you know someone with a hifi separates system. All the connections between modules are line level, so plug in to say the tape or cd 'in' on the amp section and see if the volume matches the rest of the system.

  • Are there any iPhone headsets that allow volume control?

The new Apple In-Ear headphones are shipping at last, and I am considering buying some. I am currently looking to upgrade to some high-quality headphones from my standard iPhone buds, but I would like to have a working microphone and remote like those Apple buds have for my convenience. Are there any such headsets with working volume controls as well? Does the iPhone's audio jack lack a connector for this additional piece of equipment, as some folks are suggesting? A lot of people have been saying that the remote and microphone portion of the new In-Ear headset will work with the iPhone, but the volume buttons do not. I've seen mixed reports, so I'd like to hear some more opinions on this matter.
If volume control is not possible, I will still look into upgrading. So far, I'm considering the In-Ear phones, the V-MODA Vibe Duo headset. Any other thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I bought a set of the Vmoda Vibe with the microphone. They sound great !! the silicone seals are just your average seals. After a couple of months the seals would sometimes stay in my ear when I pulled the earpiece out. A couple of months ago i bought some foam seals that work absolutely great. They are available on the Vmoda website. Kinda pricey..$14 ish for three pair. they only come in gray and accumulate dirt faster than the silicone seals but, they stay in your ear. Last week, as i wrapped the cord, i noticed it was broken at the pin plug site where it's curved (bends). This ***** as now when talking on the phone with the earbuds everything echos. My audio and the other persons audio also. Of course Apple won't exchange them since I purchased them more than two weeks ago. (A year hasn't expired yet) I'm going to send them to Vmoda and see what happens. I purchased the new Itouch earbuds. they are Apple white. I wished they came in black but, they are AWESOME !! The sound is incredible. The silicone seals work great so far. They look to be shaped differently so now they stay in your ear..so far...I purchased them for my iphone. The microphone/hold button work fine with no echo on either side. They have a volume level control but it does not work on the iphone. Bummer...This feature would have made them the ultimate Iphone earbuds. The volume does work on my ipod. Go figure. Overall, the new Apple In-ear headsets are great, They must have a tweeter and woofer in there cuz the sound is fantastic and the silicone seals actually stay in place.

  • BT Verve 450 twin won't ring out ! HELP PLEASE

we have just been on holiday for a week, phone was working fine when we left however on our return the phones will not ring out when a caller ring us ! all that happens is the screen flashes up and says silence on the bottom of screen then goes back to standby screen, the caller thinks its ringing out when it isn't. can anyone tell me how to solve this issue ?
i have re set handsets and base to default and tried everything i can think of , its driving us nuts !!

If you search the community for Verve 450, you will find many problems and solutions.
A display of "silent" would suggest volume turned down to low, or ringer muted.
I assume that you have powered the base station down for a while, then powered it up again. This will reset any locked up hardware.

  • I have a iPhone 3GS but the volume keeps going down till its off when playing songs. Help!, I have a iPhone 3GS but the volume keeps going down till its off when playing songs. Help!

I have a iPhone 3GS but the volume keeps going down till its off when playing songs. Help!, I have a iPhone 3GS but the volume keeps going down till its off when playing songs. Help! I didn't have this problem before. I am listening via the speakers of my stereo. I have done that before but never had a problem like this before.

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?
