IPhone 5 screen not locking?

Is anyone else's iphone 5 screen not locking?  I have the phone set to lock after 1 minute, but the screen stays on for well past five minutes.  What's the deal?

I have this problem in my new iphone5.   It only happens on mine when Assistive Touch is turned on, which I love.  Awaiting for Apple to fix in next update???  The only way I get around this is to remember to pull the Notification screen down and then the Autolock works. ...  or manually autolock through Assistive Touch zzzzz.

  • IPhone 4S screen auto lock not working with Music Playback, while connected to the Computer via USB

    Hello Everyone,
I have an iPhone 4S, updated to the latest version of iOS (7.1). Recently, I noticed that my iPhone's screen doesn't autolock automatically whenever it's connected via the sync cable to my Laptop Computer (A Dell Studio running Windows 8.1 Pro). This happens regardless of whether iTunes is running or not. Whenever the music playback is on, the screen just gets dimmed after a while (as it always does before the screen auto-lock triggers), and stays like that. However, when I stop music playback, the auto-lock work just fine.
I want to know, is this normal? I mean, is this the way it's supposed to be?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rajat S.

ALSO, iTunes has been updated to iOS 12.0.1.

  • IPhone 4 (not S) screen not locking iOS 6

My settings say the screen should lock after 1 minute but after upgrading to 6 this is no longer happening.
I do use the accessability home screen touch option as my home button does not work.

DId you confirm that the update did not remove your access code?  Try deleting your access code altogether and then re-enable it.  Also try changing the setting to 5 min. then back to 1 min. just to see if something got glitched during the install.

  • IPhone 5 screen not responding, lock button doesn't work- Any tips to reset the phone?

My iphone 5 screen just stopped responding to any touch stimuli. The home button works, and Siri works, but I cannot use the screen at all. Also, my lock button hasn't worked in a few months, so I've been using Assistive Touch to lock and power down my phone. I was hoping to try to reset my phone (home+lock) and see if that helped the screen issue, but I can't find a way to power down. Any tips? Should I restore the phone with iTunes? Or is this the end of the line for my phone? Thanks in advance!

You can log into iCloud on the computer and remove the device there and then restore. However, with a non-functioning sleep/wake button, you do have an issue. Believe me, you wouldn't want Siri to be able to do that, or we would be reading complaints about phones being stolen and restored again. The fact you cannot restore now is part of the anti-theft restore feature. You can either try to get the button fixed, I hope you checked to see if your device was part of the recall group, and you can let the battery die and then plug the device into the charger and it should restart. But since the sleep/wake button is integral to many of the user troubleshooting steps, I suggest getting it fixed as well.

  • IPhone 4s screen not responsive after running

After I go for a run, my iPhone 4s screen's bottom right corner is non-responsive until I restore the phone. I have gotten a replacement phone, but it still happens, so I know it must be software. I tried setting it up as a new phone, and loading minimal apps on it, but still having the same issue.
One thing that is peculiar is that depending on the pocket that I keep the phone in, this issue does or does not occur. If the phone is in the pocket that holds it vertically, with little movement (it just fits inside the pocket), it happens every time. If I put it in a different pocket where it sits more horizontal and moves around more, then I don't have the issue.
In addition to the bottom right corner of the screen being non-responsive, there are sporadic and random taps that take place the I don't do. A little poltergeist-acting. random typing, random touches.
Last bit of info is that this has happened with my iPhone 4, as well as now 2 different iPhone 4s's... Wondering if anyone has had this issue, and if there is any
way to find out what is doing it besides adding on apps one by one. That would be a lot of running/testing.
One more thing... Even if I restart it, it still does not work. The ONLY way to get it to work again is to restore it.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.

If restoring as new (no backup retored) didn't help, there certainly is a hardware problem that requires replacement or repair of the phone.
Apple doesn't repair iPhones - you may be entitled to an out of warranty replacement with a refurb for $269 (USA). If the phone has  been hacked or abused, you'll have to buy a new phone at full price.

my ihone 5 screen doesnt work

    Hello leatard,
Sorry to hear that the screen on your iPhone 5 is not working.  I found an article with steps you can take when you are having issues with your screen.  You can view steps for specific screen issues in the section titled "Display" in the following article:

  • Screen not locking

When I am on a call the phone touching my cheek puts the phone on speaker or on hold, the screen does not lock.

Is this with or without your case? Try it without the case, if it still doesn't work you will probably need to get it serviced.

  • HT4528 My lock button on my iPhone 5 will not lock my phone, but takes a screenshot every time I try.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

The lock button on my iPhone 5 no longer locks my phone, but takes a screenshot.  Any suggestions as to why and how to fix it?

Sounds like there's actually an issue with your Home button.  Screenshots happen when you press both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously.

  • IPhone 5s screen not working, no physical explanation

A girl smashed my iPhone 5s a few months ago, luckily it had a case on it. However, my screen popped off completely, it did not crack or break. All ribbon cables for the display are in tact and while investigating at times it would light up and but 99% of the time it wouldn't. Now after it happened the phone was still powered on, I could hear it ringing, I even activated Voice over somehow. Now the problem I am running into is there is a broken cable. I thought it was the home button cable however after I removed the cover I see a nice looking copper ribbon cable running from it to a small computer chip right beside it. THIS is where things are broken. There is a little piece of a ribbon cable leading from the bottom of this chip that is snapped off and I have a cable that is about an inch and a half long, very thin just like a ribbon cable, has a QR code printed on one side, underneath that QR code it looks like another little chip that connects to the chip next to the home button. The other end snaps has a little connector that snaps into a little piece right underneath the battery and above the charger. That cable is completely ruined I believe since it cannot connect to the chip that is next to the home button where the ribbon cable runs to from the home button.
*EDIT* I figured out that this is the actual home button flex cable. So now my concern is could this cable prevent my screen from working. And a recent revelation since this phone has been sitting for months as is; I plugged in a charger and it has been on the charger for over a half hour and I cannot start the phone. I used to get a vibrate or some sort of activity, now I'm getting nothing. Like I said before all cables are in tact and regardless if the 3 screen cables were broken that shouldn't stop the phone from turning on should it? This is everything I have done. I have taken the phone apart 4 times since then. I did a hard reset and actually upgraded it from 7.1.2 to 7.1.4 I believe. I have inspected cable after cable after cable, I have checked to make sure the screen seats back down in it's housing perfectly so that literally the phone looks like it's in mint condition, I have investigated literally everything I know in order to figure this out and now I plug it in the computer and I get no sign of it being detected, I'm getting no vibration, I'm getting nothing. It may be a cable or it may not be, I just took it apart just now to make sure I had all my facts straight for this post since I hadn't worked on it for such a long time.
I need to know, would the broken home button cable from the chip alongside the home button prevent the screen from working? I need to fix this phone, I have fixed hundreds of iPhones since the first generation and this is the 1st iPhone 5s and unfortunately it is mine because some unstable girl got upset and decided to spike it like a football and got away with it without any punishment whatsoever, no fine no jail time, no restitution, nothing. So I am very upset. If I can fix this thing myself with a few parts and you know or are at least 75% sure you know what parts I need to get it up and running for 10-20 dollars I would love your input. If I have to take it to a repair person I am going to have to sell it because I cannot afford to pay $200 for a $5 part and 20 minutes of a guy's time. Please help me out here! I can provide photos sometime if needed but I really prefer not to take this thing apart again unless it is replacing parts and getting it working. Thank you.

Sorry, but since DIY repair will void the warranty and can't be discussed here, you'll have to find other sources, for example this one

  • I have an issue with my iphone touch screen not responding, apple replaced phone and still having same issue. They say its software, what can I do I need my phone to work

Touch screen on Iphone slowly, over a few days stopped responding. Went to Genius Bar and was given a new 3GS because they didn't know how to fix the issue. Cool. Went home synced with Macbook Pro (new-12/2010), two days later same issue. This time when I went to Genius Bar they restored the phone to factory settings and instructed me to load as a new phone in Itunes instead of restoring information of the previous phone, which is an option good for when your replacing phone not fixing one Anywho, did everything they told me to do. SAME ISSUE A FEW DAYS LATER. This time I was told the software issue is with my Macbook and I thought this made sense, so I took it in along with the phone. That was yesterday. Phone working intermittently since leaving Apple. I was given instructions that if their "daily" fix didn't work to erase hard-drive and reinstall software that came with the macbook and start fresh. This would definately fix the issue. Extreme yes, but I need use of my phone, especially since we got rid of the house phone and all use cell phones. So last night I did the required erase of hard-drive and re-loaded all software that came with it and Microsoft Office for Mac. Plugged in the phone to set up in itunes and thought that was it. My phone is still not working. Can't answer when I try, can't make calls, etc. What the heck do I do? I'm starting to feel like a major lamo having to keep going back to Genius Bar, but I know enough to know these issues should have been resolved with the steps I've taken. I even went as far as to restore through my husbands computer and same thing. Could there be a problem with Itunes? Could the magnetic stripe in my debit card be hurting the device somehow, although that's a long shot since I have had the same or similar case since getting the phone. Frustrated beyond belief. Apple support not open at this hour so I'm trying my luck here.....
    Thanks for any input.

restore iPhone as new and start again

  • Iphone 5 screen not auto turning off

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a difference in how the new iPhone turns off.  With my iPhone 4, I'd drop it in the trouser pocket and it would shut off within the 5 minutes, as set with auto lock.  But for some reason the new phone stays on.  I've forgotten to manually shut off the screen and found the phone on and the battery almost empty.  Annoying, to say the least.  The settings are exactly as they were with my previous phone, so I'm wondering if the touch screen technology for the new phone is different.
Anyone else found this?  And, more importantly, has anyone else found a solution to fix it?

This is a real problem for my new iPhone 5. I have auto-lock set to one minute.  It works less than 50% of the time. I do have Assistive Touch turned on under Accessibility.  I had the same set-up on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5...never had a problem.  My battery is going down prematurely because of this.  Help.  Please.
UPDATE:  I tried the suggestion above.  When I touch the screen last...auto lock works.  If I don't, the screen stays on.  Thanks for the help.  I am hoping that a software update will fix this issue.  For now, I am happy to know about this temporary fix.

  • Right side of iPhone touch screen not responding

    PLEASE HELP!
New to the forums.. and new to the problem my iPhone 3G is giving me. As of today, the right side of my touch screen isn't responding. The top right side responds sometimes but the bottom right doesn't.
I've turned my phone on and off, but it hasn't helped. I don't know what to do. I got my iPhone in August 2008. Please - can anyone help?

You could reset by holding home and the power button until you see the apple logo, do not let go of either until you see the apple logo. This is basically a restart. Or you could restore through itunes. I doubt either will work, but they are worth a try. By going to an apple store or authorized seller they can determine if the phone needs replaced because of a hardware issue.

  • Iphone 4 screen not responding. not able to use the slider to unlock the phone

    Hi,
I have a iphone 4 which was purchased in the UK 2 yrs back. I use this phone in india. Since today morning the screen has become unresponsive and i am not able to use the slider to unlock the screen to be able to make or recieve calls or perform any other fuction on my phone. I spoke to apple customer care in india about this problem and they suggested to try restoring the phone which didnt work out. Now they say that I will have to get this repaired in the UK since apple doesnt have apple stores and service centers in India. I think it is some hardware issue. I am not in a position to send it back to UK since i dont have any friends or relatives there in the UK nor i am traveling to the UK at this point in time. Pls help me out and suggest how can i get my phone replaced in India.

  • Iphone 3gs screen not flush

My new Iphone 3gs has a problem where the top right hand side glass is not flush with metal bezel leaving a quite rough and sharp metal corner. Is the normal? im not thinking so as my 3g was flush all the way around.Im have also noticed the screen is slightly dipped on one side and not straight.I cant go back to the phone shop where i signed up its not close to where i live or work. Will i be able to arrange to get this fixed or replaced at the apple store in the city where i work ?
Im actually not happy to let my neice play with the phone games as it is rather sharp.

The right side on my 3GS is also a little higher than the left. I have read about a few other instances of this on the 3GS. It's not a problem for me since I keep my phone in a Griffin Clarifi case. Since the uneven lip seems to occur occasionally with the 3GS, replacing for a new one is no guarantee that it will be any better. I recommend just getting a case for the phone, it will keep the phone safe and your niece safe too.
Mine is in a case, too. I did remove it and found no noticeable difference, right to left. I agree that a case is the best way to go .. with or without any cosmetic flaws in the iPhone.
