IPHONE 5 shuts off randomly after update

After I updated to 8.3 last week, my phone started shutting off randomly. It will say I have no battery (not every time) then come back and say I have 42% It's really ******* me off, becuse I will be in the middle of doing mail or writing a text and it shuts off

The lock button does not turn OFF the iPhone. It will give you a screen with the option to turn OFF the iPhone. Possibly the battery is faulty. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple store for free battery diagnostic testing and evaluation.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IPhone 3GS keeps shutting off randomly after OS4 Update

Right after updating my iPhone 3GS to the OS4, my iPhone randomly shuts off by itself. It will randomly shut down during a call, while downloading an app or typing an e-mail.
After it shuts off, I usually have to restart it and it will freeze frame at the loading (silver apple icon usually indicating it turning on) with many lines going accross the screen and red and yellow colors on the display. I have to re-shut it down to turn it back on and it doesn't even garantee that it will turn on properly.
The phone is brand new (I've had it less than 6 months) and it NEVER crashed before. I tried restoring to new, nothing changed. The phone has not been jailbroken either.
Has anyone been experiencing this as well? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks alot,
    Mike

We have restored factory setting a few times, Uninstalled all the itunes software and done all the other bit the websites tell you to but nothing seems to be working. • IPhone shutting off randomly

I have recently had my phone shut down randomly several times the past couple days, I found this discussion board
    http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/09/16/iphone-31-bugs-random-freeze-shut/
with several others having the same issue with 3.1.2 firmware update, and restores not fixing the issue. is there something that can be done to remedy the situation? should we go back to 3.1 or even 3.0 firmware??

The link provided is in regards to 3.1. The current firmware is 3.1.2.
Have you tried restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup and if no change, tried restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup?
Installing a previous firmware version after a later firmware version has been installed is not supported.
If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • My iPhone shuts off randomly and doesn't turn back on until i plug it into a power source?

every 10 or so minutes my iphone will shut off, never while im using it, only when i put it down or in my pocket and when i try to turn it back on i get no response until i plug it into power, when i do that the device restarts. any one else have this problm?

I have an iphone 3 and the same problem. Some of the 2008 posts on a similar title suggest a restore. I need to save all of my 700+ photos somewhere before I attempt that process.

  • Ipad 2 shuts off randomly after iOS 7 update done

I have seen a youtube clip of this happening in the beta form.  I've never used a beta because you do so with the expectation there will be potential bugs.  But I just loaded the final version today and it just shuts itself off.  Especially seems to do this when you go into the photo gallery.  Is there an answer?  it will just shut itself off and restart.  My 4S doesn't seem to have this problem when I updated it today as well.
I suppose now that this final version is out, there is no way to revert my iPad 2 back to iOS 6?? I keep reading on the net that you can apparently do this if you had 7 beta, but am guessing it's not possible with the actual release version that came out today?  My iPad 2 is now pretty much useless.  Any possible solutions?  How can this happen if it's been shown to exist in the beta version a few months ago?

  • Iphone shuts off randomly

i have a iphone first generation at 3.0 and it shuts down at completely random times. i use a silicone case so i don't think its the case.

I've been having the same problem, BUT! it was only after I downloaded the new software update that Apple put out for ipods a little over a week ago with the MMS messaging and such. I think the updates had a bug in them.

  • IPhone 6 shutting off randomly

My iPhone 6 shuts off randomly after using the camera or camera apps and during texts.  It also needs to be plugged in while it still has 28% battery left.  Anyone else? I restored and activated as new without any resolution to the problem.  I am being told it's probably "an underlying hardware problem."  Not thrilled.

To rule out a software issue,  set it up as new device without using the latest backup, explained here:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If still problems after that, get it serviced:

  • My macbook shuts off randomly, how do I know what's causing this and prevent it from happening again?

My macbook shuts off and I kept a journal for it because mine's got complications.
    July 1, 2014 (Tuesday)
I spilled a cup of choclate milk on my keyboard, it was soaked! But my battery was drained so I know nothing had short out. So I turned it over and never tried to turn it on.
    July 2
I went to the nearest apple center and asked them to clean it for me. (I knew it wasn't a good idea to clean it myself) They put it in a plastic bag but I asked them to open it as soon as possible so I know what parts are affected. They told me they'd take a picture of the inside for me and go back after an hour. Milk was still inside everywhere so I asked them to take it in.
    July 8
I called to get an update on my mac and they said it wasn't economically practical to repair it because they recommended a full system replacement. I got depressed and accepted my Mac's fate. But what's annoying is I put my mac in on July 2 and they only tried to clean it in July 5 which makes me think that was the reason my mac was irreparable.
    July 9
I took my mac and tried to find another opinion but I showed the diagnostics from the apple store and they said they couldn't fix it. My parents were getting ready to buy a new one.
    July 13
I realized that my mac didn't have charge when milk spilled on it so I tried to charge it and BOOM IT OPENED. They keyboards were sticky and it takes a moment before my computer reacts to the trackpad but it works! Even all the keys works! But it doesn't charge.
After lunch, it was workingp perfectly and my batteries were at 30% charge! I was really happy!
(in the interval my mac works perfectly, it stays for normal 7 hours when battery is charged fully)
    However at July 19
There was no electricity for four days (A typhoon came in the Philippines) and my battery is about 7% so I went to the public market to get it charge while I wait for electricity. I charged it for about 3 hours and sideways because it was inside my backpack while it charged so noone will notice it. When I got home and opened my laptop, it shut off randomly after my desktop appeared after start up. So I was sad.
    July 20
I found a solution online to use the option-shift-power button my mac opened and worked normally!
    July 21
My computer was normal in the morning then in the afternoon it shut off again after I waked it up from sleep. Tried option-shift for about 3-5 times before it worked with varying intervals from 5-20 minutes each
    July 22
I get nervous when I use it but it worked perfectly I was even able to edit with Final-cut pro and HD clips.
    Wednesday
Worked perfectly in the morning but in the afternoon, after waking it up from sleep it won't turn on tried the option-shift then I tried resetting the SMC for about three times (my mac is a unibody) but it didn't turn on the whole evening.
    Today Thursday morning July 24
I tried to reset SMC first thing in the morning after the thing won't turn on. After about an hour, I tried to turn my mac on normally and it opened. So what I did is to back up all my files. (It took the whole afternoon) and at night I ran diagnostics (D during start up) and no threats were found
Haven't been experiencing the trouble, as of the moment I'm writing this Jul 25, Friday (12:13 AM) HK time Philippines.
So what I'm asking here is what do I do to make sure this doesn't occur anymore. I probably written a very detailed log. So what else (diagnostics and other) should I do to prevent this from happening again. School starts in August and I will need my laptop to work perfectly to let me go through college with less burden. Thank you and I hope you reply. Any more questions about details on my Mac will be answered

Get a new computer. Consider switching to regular milk, or even a light fruit juice.

  • Iphone 5 keeps shutting off randomly

Ever since i recently updated my iphone to the recent software update, it has been acting up. Like it shuts off randomly and shows these lines when it turns off, but thenreboots itself by itself

    Hello srephaniee,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please try the troubleshooting steps below to try and resolve this issue you're experiencing with your iPhone.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Wife's iPhone keeps shutting off randomly and does it even when on calls, restarts and has a dark line in center of the screen then the apple logo. At times it does it several times or won't power up, and the iPhone4 is only five months old. What do we do

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it!

  • My iphone 4 has been shutting off randomly for about a week saying its dead when its not now it wont turn back on at all just giving me the charging picture

my iphone 4 has been shutting off randomly for about a week saying its dead when its not now it wont turn back on at all just giving me the charging picture

  • My iPhone shut off about an hour ago after using it all day and it was fine... i thoguht the battery died but its been plugged in for 20 minutes and still doesnt turn on.... any body ever have this problem? What else do i need to do? Thanks!

Please help! If anyone has any idea why or how my iPhone shut off and wont turn back on it owuld be greatly appreciated! It was working all day and even seconds before it shut off. I thought it might have died but i have it plugged in and it isnt working! Thanks for any help!

mine just did the same thing! im almost in tears and i cant figure it out. im downloading the update to see if that will help. i have reset it like 10 times and now it is plugged up to the computer showing an apple and turning back off. i love my iphone but i cant do this mess.

  • IPhone 5s shuts off randomly

I purchased my iPhone 5s a week ago and two days ago, it started to shut off randomly. Holding the Wake/Sleep button boots the phone up again, but when the bright screen with the Apple logo dimms a little bit, it doesn't change to the Home Screen, but completly shuts down again. Hard reset won't help. The only solution is by plugging it to the USB cable and start charging. Then the phone reboots twice and goes to the Home Screen and is usable. Battery is at 83%.
This is really annoying because it switches off randomly. You can't be reached or send texts when you need it. It happens 6-10 times per day and not always is a charger around to boot it up again. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Have you find the fix?
My phone shut off randomly too. the apple comes and goes, i can not get access to it
I wonder if IT Apple read these comments. I am thinking to move to a reliable phone.
