Iphone 5 signal dropping issue

Hi guys,
I just got my Iphone5 as a gift from my friend month ago.
It was really exciting when I first got it. However I found sometimes when I unlock the screen, the signal will suddenly drop to 1 bar and then searching, this will take seconds and then appears no service. If lucky, the signal will come back soon. But it still really annoying! And this happens more often recently.
I tried reset network setting few times but it didn't help at all. So I thought maybe is due to carrier's issue. I am with Vodafone, so I bought a Telstra prepaid sim and try to see if this fixed the problem. But still, keep lossing signals!
This is so frustrating!
And my battery is draining really fast as well, even I turned off wifi, bluetooth; minimum brightness; all background apps off. its still draining!!
Anybody got the same issue here? I tried google this but seems nobody got the similar problem
Could anyone help me please?!
Thanks!

Thank you for your answer!
Did your phone just fixed itself?! How long did it takes?
I'm worried if it's actually no signal after we lock the screen? I mean once I left my phone in the bathroom and I forgot so I called up but it just directly into voicemail! I thought I lost my phone!!
And what if I need to make a emergency call??

My iphone 4s giving me no service
I have to restart phone every 5 min
When I restart i get full signal and after few second It start dropping and stop on 2 bar and after few more seconds it give no service.
What cloud be the issue ?
Its hardware (if its hardware what component I need to change or repair.
If its software then what is the solution.
I am in Pakistan and here we have no apple store or genius bar facilities.
Help me to solve the issue otherwise iphone is non useable at the moment.
I need quick reply from Apple team.

If you have tried a restore as new expecially in DFU mode you have done all the software troubleshooting neccesary this narrows it down into a hardware issue.
Apple does not recommend doing any repairs on your own because it will void your warranty however
You would be looking into repairing your Signal Antenna
Before doing this repair i would suggest contacting your carrier and having them reset your cellular network just in case
    Good luck
Let me know how it goes

  • IPhone 5 signal strength issues?

I have had this phone for almost a year now without any problems. Recently, my phone has maintained an almost constant status of 1 reception bar - 3 at the most. This started happening a few weeks ago when a storm hit and caused a power outage. Nothing loads fast anymore - for example, when scrolling through pictures in my gallery my screen freezes for about thirty seconds. Apps take a few minutes to load their home pages, and even longer to update to current events. Sometimes I don't recieve messages from other people until 10-30 minutes later (but that only happens every few days or so.) I don't think I downloaded anything new/updated at the time.  I've deleted all apps that I never use. I've tried resetting the phone by pressing its power button/home button at the same time, but nothing changed. Anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this?

    Hi nezzitou,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know you are not experiencing a “No Service” or “Searching” message as described in the following article, but I would still suggest these troubleshooting steps if you are having service issues.
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4429
I know you stated that you first noticed this after a storm as well. It could be that a tower your carrier uses to provide cellular service to your area may be down as well. If you go through the troubleshooting and the issue continues, you may want to contact your carrier as described at the very bottom of the article.
If you're still experiencing No Service issues, contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues that could cause these symptoms.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • IPhone 3GS signal drop and late texts.

My IPhone 3GS seems to have random signal loss, in places where it has previously had good signal. I have noticed that there is no pattern to where I lose signal, but it is reletivley frequent.
My iphone also sometimes does not recieve texts sent to me for a couple of hours after they were sent. It does not always happen, but I can have as many as five texts come through hours late.
If anyone is having similar problems and/or has found a solution for this, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Best advice is to take it to an Apple store: But is there one in Kuwait?

  • My iPhone 4 signal issues are gone...

Well, like many of people here I had the obnoxious signal loosing issue that is affecting a staggering amount of iPhone 4 users. However, I never realized I inadvertedly fixed the issue until just 10 minutes ago. I had signal issues since Day 1.
Bear with me thru this small story. I saw here a thread on MacRumors about a user experiencing camera issues on his iPhone 4. Said issue was that the camera showed a green spot in the center. I was sorta curious but never really paid much attention to it. This was 4 days ago. Flash forward to yesterday.
I was on the Apple Store picking out a new case for my iPhone 4, along with the respective screen protector. While I was doing that I saw an empty iPhone 4 demo unit and I decided to test drive FaceTime. I fired up both my iPhone 4 and the demo unit and connected. Disaster struck, my iPhone suffered from the same green spot effect as the iPhone from the user on MacRumors. Knowing full well, it was a hardware problem I set up an appointment for today at 6:30 PM.
Flash forward to today 6:30 PM. I got there at 6:15 and the Genius helped me out right away. He saw the problem, diagnosed my phone and concluded as previously stated it was hardware problem. Obviously warranty kicks in. He takes out my Micro SIM card and puts in the new iPhone (this was a brand new, not refurb unit). He activates it and hands it to me for mini inspection. first thing I do is check the camera, and against ALL odds, the same issue plagued this new phone. The Genius and I were, to say the least, shocked. Same issue, different phone. Now, how does this relate to the signal loss? Well, I am getting there so hang on tight.
The Genius does a comparisson between my iPhone and replacement unit to find the exact spot. He then pulls out his and does the comparisson to find his iPhone 4 too suffers from the dreaded green blob/spot. He then tells me there is no other replacement unit for my iPhone and that I had 2 choices. Take my current iPhone and wait if a software fix comes along, or take the replacement phone with me. I decided to wait and keep my phone (it is a hassle to resotre everything to previous state). So the Genius reswaped the SIM card to my phone back and handed it to me. (My iPhone spent 15 minutes with out SIM card while the Genius did all his tests on my and replacement unit, and while he asked for 2nd opinions on the green blob issue)
I went on my merry way, but realized something now. No matter what position I held my iPhone 4 in, the signal never decreased. I held it the many ways I know the signal issue pops and nothing. No bar loss, no signal loss, no call drop. NOTHING. So there you have it.
I am theorizing that moving the SIM card had something to do with the signal issue, because the only thing I have done to my iPhone 4 differently is take out and reinsert the SIM card. Other than that no other changes to it. No setting change, no software change no nothing. Just reinsertion of the SIM card. Now, to prove my theory, I need people who can test this and see if this fixes their iPhone. I know it did on mine, but on yours?
    Check it out.
PS - No, I did not have the green blob issue fixed.
My original thread is found here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=955742
Many users are claiming (me included) the signal issues being fixed.

I have "death-grip" issue. Just ejected SIM card to test SIM contacting the SIM tray issue. I have a 10x loupe and inspected the area in question (SIM card gold contacts touching tray) and I found that there is a space between contacts and SIM tray. Under 10x magnification you can easily see how precice my SIM card was made and cut. There's also a relief rout around contact area. Also there is a thin film of some non-conducting material between SIM card and SIM tray where the tray supports the card. This SIM tray even has the IMEI and Serial number etched on it and under 10x magnification you can appreciate the fabrication and close tolerances even this SIM tray is made to.
I followed all instructions on the macrumors forum and this "DID NOT" solve my "death-grip" issue and I can verify with 100% certainty that the SIM contacts are not touching the SIM tray anywhere.
I do hope this helps others but I am still hoping that this can be rectified with software.

  • Signals drop on iPhone 5s iOS 8.1 both wifi and network

I am having the following problems since i updated to iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5s 16GB model A1533 :
1- My network signals drop to 3 dots and sometimes to 2 and stay there.
2- Sometimes my wifi disconnects itself on my iphone for almost 4 or 5 seconds
3- My battery is draining faster that ever. I turned off the use of fingerprint and found it useful but still my iphone consumes a lot of battery. I get my battery percentage dropped to 80% from 100% in just 20minutes of whatsapp usage. My fone's vibration is never on. Location services all off except find my iphone. Background app refresh also off. I tried everything. Erase all settings, hard reset etc. NO USE
4- Playing games is really difficult. Battery drains very fast.
I did not have these problems on 7.1.2. Need help
    Regards,
    Ahmad

I understand that but I hope that people from Apple will be referring to the support groups and may actually think about that last paragraph.

  • My Iphone 5 keeps dropping signal (no service) in good service areas?

Help my iphone 5 keeps dropping signal saying no service then after a while it gets service again, sometimes this can take up to an hour. Also if i toggle airplane mode it sometimes comes back or if i switch the phone on and off it comes back. This is happening in areas of good signal. Back in January my phone did get wet but i dryed it off and its been faultless ever since apart from this recent problem of no signal. I have an Genius appointment booked for this Thursday to see what they will do about it, will they just blame it on the water eventhough i have seen this problem time and time again on the Internet and the best way seems to replace the faulty phone.?

Try restarting your iPhone. Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds and then turn your device back on. Otherwise, the place where you currently are may not have very good signal for ATT.

  • Why does my iPhone 3Gs stall and then the signal Drops?

Over the past couple of weeks, several times a day, when I am using my iPhone - normally an app, but sometimes declining a call, I can tell the app (or phone) sort of stalls and then immediately all of my bars disappear and I totally lose me signal. Then it says "Searching..." in the upper left-hand corner and maybe after 1 or 2 minutes, it picks up the signal again.
This is getting annoying. I am quite sure it is not a network problem since no one else on the area is experiencing the same thing. It happens on multiple apps, so my guess it is with the phone. I really do not think it is with the SIM card...
Any one have the same problem? I've looked online for posts about similar problems and have found nothing.

Actually, what's probably happened is the signal dropped, the phone is having trouble dealing with it, eventually gives up and then updates the signal icon to show it's dropped.
It's common in networking that apps don't handle certain types of networking problems well or rely on the network layer which may be too aggressive in re-trying before telling the calling app there's a problem. This is tricky stuff whether a computer plugged into a network jack or Wi-Fi or cell tower.
If it happens to you everywhere then drop by Apple but it might just be happening in certain areas due to a cell tower problem.

  • Has anyone having an issue with the iphone 6 signal cell strength on Verizon?

Is anyone having an issue with the iPhone 6 signal on Verizon?

I'm having the same issue as most of you on this forum. my current OS is 4.3.5 and after a factory reset, the camera started working fine, however, once i done the restore the camera reverted back to the same issue - "the shutter on the screen wont open, and the still/video switch just flashes" - what is more strange is, i have the HP home&biz app installed and this has a camera function and the camera seems to work fine with that, therefore suggesting there is nothing wrong with the hardware and this is a software issue. I'm currently awaiting a member of the Apple support team to call me about this, will keep you posted. BTW - someone suggested, going into Location Services and switching off the camera and apparantly, the issue was resolved for them, unfortunatly, this didn't work for me extremly odd issue indeed!

  • IPhone 6 freezing after WiFi signal drops

Anyone else having recurring OS freezing and hanging problems after a sudden WiFi signal drop?
The phone seems fine on WiFi for a period of time, sometime hours, sometimes days but then all of a sudden the signal strength drops to one and everything goes crazy.  Trying to turnoff WiFi from the control center doesn't have any effect (it looks like it's off but the wifi indicator remains on).  If I try an go into the settings app, it comes up as a blank white page and hangs.  Sometimes I can go back to the home screen, sometimes not but the phone will freeze up solid or eventually reboot.  If it reboots or I do a hard reset the wifi switch is grayed out and can not be enabled.
If I perform another hard reset the wifi switch will sometimes be accessible again but the phone seem unstable.  It will reboot randomly or simply freeze up.  The last time it froze on the apple boot screen and I had to put the phone into recovery mode to restore it.
I have iOS 8.1.1 installed and have done a dozen hard resets and restored as a new phone from iTunes twice in the past week.  It's driving me nuts because the phone just seems unstable.

I have reset the modem everytime this happened. That is why I believe this could be a software problem between iOS 8 or iPhone 6 wifi and the band in which the airport express communicates.
Today I have disabled the airport express and began using the wifi from the HUB of my internet provider. So far no drops on wifi signal no freezing, no crashing. Connectivity seems much faster and clean now. Lets hope it keeps this way.

Have brand new iphone 4s. Wifi signal is very weak even when very close to router. I have also an iPod Touch and when both are side by side, the iPod wifi signal is excellent and the iPhone wifi signal is very poor??!!! Hardware issue? or software issue? I was hoping it is just a software issue, but...
Saw may web sites discussing this same issue; many discussions point to hardware problems but there is no official word from Apple about it, which is disapointing !??  Few discussions point to software problem with solutions based on try and error, and they don't seem to work.

did not help at all; the problem continues the same

  • Non-Scientific Evidence for Signal Loss Issue

I just did a test with my phone. I started a speed test to assure some steady data flow, and then put the phone next to a PC speaker to create the interference noise through the speakers. It came through loud and clear.
I touched the spot in question on the phone (lower left corner, black strip), and the sound stopped, and it coincided with a drop in my speed test. I repeated this a few times, and repeatedly moved my finger to and from the problem spot, and each time I would do that, the sound coming through the PC speaker would stop.
This, to me, shows that the hand is in fact blocking the signal to the device, causing the signal attenuation, and that it is more than just bars being misreported.

The ratio of dBm to power (watts) is logarithmic, which means as dBm decreases the power of the signal decreases exponentially. You can get wattage from dBm by this formula:
    P = 10^((x - 30)/10) where x is in dBm.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBm
If you calculate the wattage (for example, -91 dBm as a base, -91 - 10 dBm = -101 dBm for Nexus One, -91 - 20 = -111 dBm for iPhone 4), you will see that while the Nexus drops to 1/10th of its power while held, the iPhone 4 drops to 1/100th of its power.
But it's not just power that matters in this case, its the thresholds of acceptable power levels that counts as well. Cell phones and towers can accommodate even big drops in power as long as the resulting power is enough to maintain a secure signal between the phone and the tower. If your signal strength is -51 dBm, you can drop to 1/100th of the power you had before and still have a usable signal because your phone can still make a reliable connection with that power level. The problem is that a drop to 1/100th of your original signal strength simply by holding your phone with your palm touching that lower left gap seems unusual and potentially unacceptable. Cell phone users already have to deal with many other factors that may hurt the ability of their signal to stay within the acceptable threshold, such as distance from a tower or being inside of a building, this issue only makes matters significantly worse.
The question is, is this issue acceptable or not? If other phones do not have this level of signal drop simply by holding them in a normal way, then this phone is deficient. You should be able to exchange your phone for another that does not have this deficiency.
If the phone isn't deficient, then AT&T needs to correct its coverage maps to accommodate this phone's deficiency, or create a "special" map for iPhone 4 coverage. At both my work and home, AT&T's coverage viewer says I have "Best" coverage. If I hold my phone at work or at home though, my coverage drops to 1 bar and I cannot make calls or use data. AT&T's coverage should be showing my area as "Moderate" coverage (or worse), then I wouldn't have a complaint because I could have clearly seen that AT&T has crappy coverage in my area.
Holding the iPhone 4 in your hand with the palm touching the lower left gap in the steel band is not abnormal user behavior. Although I am aware of the issue and do my best to avoid touching it, sometimes I adjust the way I hold the phone out of habit or for comfort and my palm just ends up resting against that gap and I either end up dropping the call or losing the data connection before I notice. It's disappointing because I never had this problem with my iPhone 3G, and I really like the iPhone. As an iPod Touch it is faster and better looking that the previous generation, but, for someone in a weak "5 bar" area that AT&T considers to have "Best" coverage, as a phone it is actually worse than the iPhone 3G.
Imagine if your computer completely crashed every time you hit the "t" and the "h" keys at the same time. You'd find that most of the time it wouldn't be an issue, but occasionally your fingers are so quick that you hit both keys virtually at the same time (assuming you are a fast typist); your computer crashes and you potentially lose any unsaved work. You can do two things, learn to hit the "t" key and "h" key slower, slowing down to do full taps of each, or save your work repeatedly and just accept that the computer will crash. People who type slower anyways probably wouldn't have an issue, but fast typists would find it uncomfortable and inefficient.

  • Signal dropping, no internet at times

Any idea how to correct weak signal or dropping calls? I have a new simm card and it seems to not help much. When searching for a new signal it takes forever.
I have an extended warraty but would like to avoid using it if possible.

This is not a network issue I am having a dropped signal issue. For me and svereal opthers its not just data device will go straight to 0 bars no service and seconds later reconnect. Issue occurs every were all known good coverage areas previously even when in same building with a vzw repeater and surrounded by other verizon users droids and BBs and droids my and other iphones are the only ones with this issue and the iphones do not drop signal at the same time. reset network settings under settings > general> reset > reset network settings no affect to relibility issue is intermitant but reproducable.

  • My Internet Connection Dropping Issues...

I too am having the occasional Internet connection dropping issues.  Phone and TV continue to work.
Since I had Fios installed last November I am on my third ONT and 2nd router.  When I called in my latest drop yesterday the call center person told me I had a hardware issue because my computer had a valid IP address assigned.  I tried to teach her something about DHCP but she would not listen to me.  I asked her to please reboot the ONT and she refused because "nothing was indicating a problem with it".  Whatever...
Each time the Internet goes out the router acts fat and happy.  I have full green on WAN Coax, and strangely enough, a flashing green Internet activity indicator.  Logging into the router shows that I am MOCA connected and assigned a WAN IP address.  But I can't get out past the router at all.  On the event that led to me getting a replacement router the lady said she could talk to the ONT just fine, but not the router.  We reset the router and ONT port numerous times and the connection finally came back up.
I am not sure of the protocol between the ONT and router, but I think the ONT is keeping enough signal going to make the router "think" its happy, but then the ONT is not passing packets at some point.  After yesterdays call and the refusal to reset the ONT I just hung up on her and reset it myself.  Of course everything started working just fine...like I thought it would.
So what is the issue here?  Is MOCA a mess?  Is an Ethernet connection to the ONT better?  I am utterly disgusted with this miserable system and can't afford to continue having these outages.
I should also add the other wonderful features I have seen.  When I tried to powercycle the *new* router yesterday it decided to dump its entire config including my port forwarding.  Nice...  And I have given up using wireless because if I set the router for WPA it locks up so hard that it takes a master reset to get going again.
Anyone have some advice on getting this system stable?

I would try using a non-verizon router.  I used the Netgear router and it fixed my problem.  The Verizon router seem to be pieces of garbage and they over-hear.
