IPhone 5 SIM card

I am going to start this by saying that I know very little about technology. That being said, here is my situation:
I am studying abroad currently and got a new iPhone 5 slightly before Christmas. When I went abroad I had a foreign SIM card put in so that I could use it locally in this country (I was still paying my monthly verizon bill). So I took the Verizon SIM card home and put it in a safe place until i return to America. only problem is I was then pick pocketed and now no longer have the phone. What can I do?

    @pcarrigan
I hope your enjoying your time abroad and that you are learning a great amount. I can only hope that you are ok after being pick pocketed. Allow me the opportunity to provide some insight towards a resolution.
If you have insurance on the device, I do suggest contacting our insurance provider Asurion to receive a replacement. You may place a claim at phoneclaim.com
Enjoy the rest of your time abroad. Keep us posted on the situation.

Can I put my iphone sim card into my ipad mini?

Depends on the model of iPhone, and the actual cellular plan it has.
If its an iPhone 5 with an unlimited Data Plan you may be able to do it.
Any other model of iPhone or a plan without a data packcage will not work.

  • Can I use my iPhone SIM card in another phone?

While I save up to get my iphone repaired, can I use my iPhone sim card in my Motorolla Rockr (my prior phone) or do I need to buy a new one? ATT said the sim in my Rockr is permanently disabled...
I would just try it but I'm at work and don't have my iphone here. I want to pickup a sim card on my way home if I can't...

You can use the sim card from the iPhone in any AT&T phone.

  • What is stored, in addition to contacts, on the iPhone sim card?

Other than Contacts, what is stored on the iphone sim card?

The iPhone can store contacts to the SIM Card, but this is not supported by Apple, but the iPhone can actually write to the SIM Card. The iPhone can read contacts from the SIM Card, so if any contacts are present, it can read them perfectly.
The SIM Card stores your personal phone number and has the User specific Carrier ICCID number among other possible proprietary information.

  • Can I use my old ATT/iphone sim card in a new iphone?

So, I want to get a new iPhone and put my first AT&T/iPhone sim card, the card that came in my first iPhone into.....will this work? normal activation thru iTunes? and tips, tricks, suggestions, etc.
    thanks in advance,
    Eric

You have to activate the iPhone because you have to active your iPhone account. This isn't just another phone that you can switch SIM cards between and it work.
I don't know what "back door" you're talking about but I hope that you would know by now the iPhone is not another regular cell phone. But it most certainly does work with any AT&T SIM.

Sounds like you broke something. You may need to look into a replacement - visit an Apple Store or contact AppleCare.

  • Iphone Sim Card problems and updating and restoring problems

I bought a iphone about 1 year ago and about 2 months ago i was not able to see any wifi connections in the area or connect to any even though i was sure that there was a wifi nearby and my fellow coleauges could connect to it with their iphone. I thought that this might have something to do with the "restrictions" so i went to turn the restrictions off but realised that it had a passcode that i had forgotten. I wasnt able to restore it within the iphone so i restored it from my computer. Once i had finished the iphone had a " connect to itunes " on the screen and it said that there was no sim car installed, even though there was. I tried cleaning the sim card and everything else, i tried connecting it to itunes but it just said no sim card installed. Now i cannot use my iphone or cant even activate it. I have also tried to restore it in recovery mode but ended up with the same problem. Please Help.! Thanks

This forum is not a catch all problems one.

  • Can i use the iphone sim card in the new IPhone 3g and not have to renew?

I have an Iphone now and want to get the new Iphone 3g. Can i still use my old sim card and old contract with the new phone and not have to start a new contract with at&t and pay again?

It doesnt look like that is possible. Here is a qoute from engadget "Do you plan on upgrading your now-obsolete iPhone on July 11th? Great—good for you big spender. Here's the skinny. AT&T informed us that anyone who bought an iPhone after May 27th will be able to swap out their handset with no additional charges for an iPhone 3G. What about everyone else? If you signed a 2-year contract with AT&T when the iPhone came out (which you pretty much had to), you'll have to sign another new 2-year contract to score a new iPhone 3G. The good news is that AT&T will allow you to overwrite your old contract with your new contract. In other words, you're just locked into another 2 years, not 3."

  • IPhone sim card 3G

I don't know if this has ever been mentioned before, but I noticed when I removed the sim card it said 3G. You don't suppose that has anything to do with 3G internet capabilities do you? Just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.

FYI - this has been mentioned here a significant number of times since 6/29 but means nothing in regards to the current iPhone having hidden 3G capabilities. It does not. You can't turn a non-3G phone into a 3G phone with a firmware or software update. This requires new hardware with a 3G radio and for Apple in the U.S. will probably require another FCC approval which is public information. AFAIK, Apple has not applied to the FCC for 3G iPhone approval.
FYI - I wasn't saying the iphone has hidden 3G capabilities. I was simply asking if that was what the 3G was for on the sim. I found it odd that the sim would have the 3G logo for a phone that doesn't utilize the capabilities.
I also know that you can't add the ability simply by software changes. I'm sorry I even bothered.

  • IPhone sim card.. swap into new phone?

I just recieved and activated my new iPhone 4S.  Do I have to swap my SIM from my iPhone 4 into this new one?  What will happen if I leave the new one in there instead of swapping?

Assuming you've tested the new phone/SIM and can make & receive calls and all that, then yes, I'd say the old one will be inactive (you can check it online with your AT&T account - only the new phone should be there under your devices).
You can use the old iPhone as an iPod Touch (with or without the old SIM in it).  But, you would need the old SIM in it if you ever need to re-activate it after a restore-as-new (or say, an update goes badly and you need to reset it).  Also, with the old SIM in it, it can still be used for 911 calls - FCC regs require that 911 calls still go through even from phones with no account (but a GSM phone needs the SIM in just to connect to the cell towers).
AT&T used to swap out SIM cards (and likely still does) for phones that are able to actual store contact data on the SIM itself.  Whenever I have upgraded my iPhones (always done at store in my case) they just set up the new iPhone with a new SIM and leave the old one as is.  Since an iPhone cannot store anything on the SIM, there is no compelling reason not to just set it up with a new SIM.

  • Locked iphone SIM card

I have an iPhone 3GS. Originally, it was locked on a certain Canadian carrier (Rogers). It's been unlocked and I'm using a different carrier now (Fido). I'm going to be getting a new Rogers SIM card soon and I want to be able to update the firmware. If I re-lock the phone (so that I can update the Firmware), can any Rogers SIM card work or does it have to be the original SIM card that was in the phone before it was unlocked?
    Thanks in advance!

Only solution would be to contact AT&T and see if they will unlock your phone for you.  If they don't, then you will have to buy an unlocked phone, or a phone locked to Greek carrier.

  • IPhone SIM Card Switch with Daughter

So, I have the original 4gig iPhone. I'm eligible to upgrade to the new 3Gs. My daughter just has your typical Razr, but wants an iphone. What I'd like to do is pass my current iphone down to her and get myself the new 3Gs. But, I don't want to have the data package on her iphone - Wi-Fi is all she needs for data.
I called AT&T to see if I had to keep a data plan on her phone and was told yes. The customer service rep went into an explanation about it being Apple and not AT&T, because it was part of their contract that every iphone must have a data plan. Then, I told him that I'm not going to ad a data plan for my daughter regardless, and asked "off the record" if the iphone would work just by taking the SIM card out of her motorola and placing it in the iphone. He didn't tell me no, but didn't tell me yes.
So, I'm looking for someone to confirm that this will or will not work before I make any moves.
    Thanks in advance!

Here's a link how to remove the SIM card from the iPhone:
    http://www.maclife.com/article/howto_remove_the_iphone_simcard
I'm not looking to run any Razr applications on the iPhone. Do Razrs even have apps?
I'm not even looking to transfer any data (I assume you mean contacts, etc.). I just want to know if I take the card out of the Razr and put it in the iPhone, will she be able to make calls, send text (we have an unlimited text family plan), and connect to the web via wi-fi?

  • HT201401 iPhone SIM card removal

I can't get the SIM card cmpartment to open on my iPhone.  Is there some kind of trick to this???
    HELP!!!
    THank you!

you should be able to just put a pin or straigtened out paperclip int othe hole on the side of the phoner and push - the sim card jolder should pop out a bit and you can then remove it with your fingers (or in my case my teth)
if that doesnt work there maybe something wrong and you should take the phone to an Apple store if there is one nearby or call Apple iPhone support

  • Original iPhone SIM card error!

Hello. I got an iPhone 2G, it was unlocked, once I updated it and well it got locked and said "Slide for emergency" I had to get it unlocked from a store. Now I have an AT&T SIM card (Before I did not) and updated it again thinking that there will be no errors this time because of the SIM card. So I updated it, iTunes said, "The SIM card on this iPhone does not appear to be supported." I had iOS 2.2 now kind of have iOS 3.1.3. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit and iTunes 10.5.2.11 (UK version (But I live in America)). My iPhone shows the AT&T sign by the way and shows time when I slide the bar but iTunes still shows the error. Please help!

Thank you for your answer. I did just that after I posted this thread, but AT&T was no help. But I was able to solve the problem thanks to jailbreaking and unlocking. Cheers!
