IPhone 5 Stopped Receiving Yahoo Mail

I noticed this past weekend (03/28-3/29) my Yahoo email account on my iPhone 5 had not received any new emails, although I was still continuing to receive them on my iPad.  I have attempted the following:
Updated operating system to iOS 8.2
Deleted Yahoo Account and changed account password (on PC)
Reinstalled Yahoo Account
I have also performed Steps 2 and 3 above and rebooted the phone between the steps.  Currently my inbox is empty and will not receive test emails I've sent from other accounts, I am however able to compose and send emails.  When I access the inbox, it shows "No Mail" and when I swipe down, the task bar at the bottom briefly shows "connecting" and then "Updated Sunday".
Any help/ thoughts on the matter woudl be greatly appreciated.

iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.2 stopped receiving mail yesterday. Have yahoo email account. Can still send emails. Have turned device off/on. Have done the dual off/on thing using top button and menu button.   Issue seems to be only with main inbox, as sub folders are receiving mail. Other Apple device is not having issues like this, just on iPhone.
Your issue is with the Yahoo email account which is notoriously bad.
you can try deleting and reinstalling the email account.
If that doesn't fix it try the yahoo email app.

  • Both my iPad and iPhone have stopped receiving e-mail from Comcast using the Mail app.

This is really frustrating.  I just spent an hour on the phone with a fairly good Comcast tech, and he couldn't solve the problem.  They said it might be because Mail goes through iCloud, and iCloud may be having trouble.
I have tried restarting both the iPad and iPhone, changing ports, deleting and re-setting up the comcast mail account, etc.  I am able to view my e-mail on my MacBook Pro using Outlook, and the Comcast website e-mail is also OK.
Any suggestions?  It would be good if I could talk to an Apple tech, but apparently that is not an option.

Thanks for the additional information.  No error messages.  No issues w/ POP3 e-mail being locked out....
I had not changed any settings before this problem occured.  Both Mail apps on the iPad and iPhone just crashed.  I believe in causality (I am a Physicist), so probably it wasn't anything on my iPad or iPhone.
It has become all too common for tech companies to blame anyone but themselves.  As a customer with little control or input, I find this infuriating.
Now, both my iPad and iPhone have started working again, after nearly 6 hours w/ out e-mail working.
    Maybe it was sunspots!
    Thanks again!

Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.

Any chance you use two step verification on your Yahoo account? If you've ever had to enter a code that was text messaged to you when you log into your Yahoo account on a new computer, then two step verification is probably on.
If that is the case, you'll have to generate an app specific password in the Yahoo web mail page and enter that as your password on your Apple Device instead of your standard password in Mail Settings.

My iPhone 4s suddenly stopped receiving incoming mail.  I am still able to send from my iPhone but not receive. My email is still coming through on the desktop, sending anbd receiving.

Thanks for the reply. The SMTP is the Outgoing , which is working.  I cannot find the incoming settings though. Are there any? The settings were never changed by me, I think there has been a network change somewhere. AT&T or Apple. I have rebooted several times, and even did a restore.  Same problem. The "checking email" and "last Updated xx/xx/xxxx" message at bottom of screen just constantly flashes on and off when I check email.
I can send email from my iPhone ok.

  • Unable to receive Yahoo mail after upgrading to iOS 5.01

Need help resolve problem on receiving Yahoo mails after upgrading to iOS 5.01

After upgrading to 5.01, I also am having problems with receiving Yahoo emails. Some emails seems to get pushed and download fine from the server. Emails with attachments will show up one minute and then disappear off the screen again. I know they are not being deleted because I can check them on my laptop just fine. When I do get an email to stay on the screen, it says "this message has not been downloaded from the server." At random times, yahoo will try to check for mail and say connection failed to server or something like this. This only started happening since 5.01. I have also tried recreating the account on the phone, but that did not help. Any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • IPhone now supports encrypted Yahoo Mail (iOS 4.2.1) with push!

I was having problems sending email so I took the trouble shooting steps of removing my Yahoo account from the phone and re-adding it (rebooting the phone in between just to be sure).
After doing so I noticed that the iPhone is now connecting to port TCP port 993 to retrieve mail for Yahoo and TCP port 465 to send mail via Yahoo. These are the ports used to receive and send mail using SSL/TLS respectively. See http://www.auditmypc.com/port/tcp-port-465.asp and http://www.auditmypc.com/port/tcp-port-993.asp
In iOS 4.1 and earlier, the iPhone was using ports 143 to retrieve email and 587 to send. These are the ports used when receiving and sending non-encrypted email. See http://www.auditmypc.com/port/tcp-port-143.asp and http://www.auditmypc.com/port/tcp-port-587.asp
There are ways of manually adding a Yahoo Mail account to the phone that sends and receives encrypted mail by going through the other mail settings and entering the servers names by hand, but push mail notifications wouldn't work with that.
So what this all means, assuming this isn't a fluke, is that as of iOS 4.2.1, the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch now support sending and receiving of encrypted mail while still supporting push! That's big news.

I've found sending to be hit or miss. It usually works, but frequently fails for reasons I can't figure out. When it fails, sometimes killing the mail app or rebooting the phone will get sending to work. Other times sending email with a different mail provider (MobileMe for example) gets it to work. Other times I have to turn off "Mail" for the Yahoo account and turn it back on.
I will say that sending email usually works, but I've had 3 instances where it simply stopped working since upgrading to iOS 4.2.1. I don't know if this is a bug with iOS or with Yahoo's servers. I do know that when the server connection fails, that the phone is trying multiple times to reach apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com on TCP ports 587, 465 or 25. I can telnet to that address on any of those ports while this problem is occurring so it seems likely it's an iOS issue.

  • Suddenly cannot receive Yahoo mail in Apple Mail

As of this past Monday, I can no longer receive any of my Yahoo mail thru the Apple mail client. I keep getting a message that tells me port 995 timed out (or 110, after I changed it/w/SSL on and off).
I checked with Yahoo and the help was iffy (no big surprise there). We did some telnet tests and Yahoo said it was probably my ISP blocking port 995. I doubted that, but to be thorough, I contacted my ISP and ran some pings and we could get thru to the Yahoo IP address.
I ran Mail on a separate computer and had the same issues, so it's not specific to one machine.
I can send/get Yahoo mail via my iPhone (via WiFi) with no problems.
I can SEND mail thru my Yahoo account via Apple Mail, with no problems.
I installed Thunderbird and am currently downloading all the messages from my Yahoo account, with no problem. So, Thunderbird seems to be working.
So, what I'm left with is wondering what suddenly happened to Mail that I can no longer download Yahoo mail. I've changed no settings since Monday. I've updated nothing in over a week.
Why, suddenly, would Mail no longer download Yahoo?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tips too.
    Antonio

I'm experiencing the same phenomenon. My yahoo mail is working flawlessly on my iPhone, however the Mail app is not connecting to the POP server. For the past two days I've had the triangle/exclamation icon next to my mailbox. I have an att.net mailbox account and don't have any issues sending and receiving mail. A pop-up asks if I want to take the account online and still to no avail. I've deleted the account and later added it with some success as it begins to fetch my 500+ messages still on the server. Minutes later I get the warning icon and again a pop-up asking to take the account online.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Cannot Receive Yahoo Mail on One eMail Account

On iPad:  Cannot receive or send yahoo mail on account #3.  This account works fine on my iPhone and two computers.  Accounts #1 and #2 also work fine on the iPad in question.
Previous to Deleting Account and Adding it back we would simply receive "Updated Yesterday"  or now "Updated Monday".  Would not update Account #3.  Again Accounts #1 and #2 work fine on problem iPad.
    Any suggestions?

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!
