IPhone 5 support for Sprint HD Audio

Does the iPhone 5 hardware or do later versions support the extended frequency range required to support Sprint HD Audio?

  • ITunes support for 5.1 audio formats - a plea to Apple!

When will we finally be able to purchase and play high resolution 5.1 audio formats such as DTS, Dolby Digital, MLP, etc with iTunes?
I have a car (Acura) that has iPod integration, as well as an amazing audio system with DVD-A and DTS support. The DVD-A surround sound discs sound amazing. The weakest link is the iPod....I can't buy any 5.1 content from iTunes and have it on my iPod or iPhone.
As you know, DVD-A and SACD are basically dead physical formats, but the 5.1 content they carried is amazing. There is no shortage of 5.1 music material these days. The distribution is the only thing missing. I'm willing to pay a premium for 5.1 music content, but Apple has to sell it...please!!!
    Doug

ed2345 - Thanks for the link. Looks very interesting! I don't see any surround/5.1/DTS/DD files, though. I don't think ripping/playing 5.1 files is possible via the iPod/iPhone software without Apple's support. I could author my own DVD-As from these hi-res files, but that's a little more effort and $ for a tool, just for 2.0 files. I'm primarily interested in iTunes/iPod/iPhone 5.1 support, in any format of Apple's choosing, directly within the iPod/iPhone. Whatever iTunes chooses would likely be the defacto standard for 5.1 audio files. I'd just rather carry an iPod full of 5.1 files than physical discs for every album. Again, thanks for the info!
Roamingnome - I'm addressing both Apple and our constituency with this request to support 5.1 audio formats. I have already submitted feedback directly to Apple.

  • What file types does Kuler iPhone app support for images?

Kuler supports all images in your camera roll, on Google images, or Flickr.

    clarkkent26,
It is on page 51 of the User's Guide (July 16, 2008 revision):
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
iPhone displays most picture attachments (JPEG, GIF, and TIFF) inline with the text
in email messages. iPhone can play many audio attachments (such as MP3, AAC,
WAV, and AIFF). You can download and view files (such as PDF, webpage, text, Pages,
Keynote, Numbers, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents) attached to
    messages you receive.
What format are the pictures you are receiving in?
Have you tapped them to download in case they were too large to automatically download over your current connection?
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Iphone 3G support for A2DP and AVRCP

Hi guys, I recently got a Jabra bt3030 bluetooth stereo dongle to listen to my music wirelessly from my Iphone 3G. Only wish it was as simple as I hoped it would be. After pairing the two via bluetooth and playing a song, I realised that the next/previous buttons on my bluetooth unit do not work. Nor does the volume control on the iphone itself! As a result, the playback signal is at full blast-causing buzzing in my earphones continously throughout the song. Are there any apps out there that fix this 'volume bar' issue? If not, I do hope that Apple will fix this problem with their next update-3.2. I'm quite disappointed as I have tried playing music on other bluetooth devices, and the music is flawless! If they do fix this, iphone will be, in my opinion, perfect...

I tried pairing the jabra unit on a Blackberry Bold and there was no distortion or buzzing. I also tried using my Sennheiser headphones with the Jabra unit instead of the stock headphones provided but that didnt change anything. Nope, no boosting of the volume when I imported the music into itunes. The Jabra BT3030's track record is excellent.
I have tested the Iphone and bluetooth unit everywhere. Brought it for several walks in parks and even placed the unit on top of the iphone with the phone face down (hoping to get it the closest i can to the Bluetooth radio chip and there was still the buzzing present.
I guess I have to wait for either an app that solves this issue or a permanent fix from Apple. I'm hoping to my wits end for the latter.

  • IPhone 5 Support for SD Card

Be aware.  The iTunes store says that the Lighning SD Card reader will work with the iPhone 5.  It does not!  I just purchased one and found out the hard way.  Apple was nice enough to issue a refund but that doesn't solve my problem.
Does anybody know why the iPhone 5 does not support the Lighning SD Card Reader?  Are there any options to read an SD card on the iPhone that does work?

No, they don't. It is compatible with the iPad 4 and iPad Mini. They do not state anywhere that it is compatible with the iPhone 5.

  • If I buy my Iphone from apple for sprint will I be able to keep my current number

I will also be using an upgrade to do this can I still apply the upgrade over apples site and keep my current number?

Not to sound unhelpful, but you are asking people who can only guess.
Sprint woud be my first stop.  Tell then who you are with (if not Sprint), how long and if you are in-contract or month-to-month, ...
See ... even *I* am reaching for questions that may not even be asked.

  • Will the iphone come out for sprint?

im very interested with the iphone because i am tired of my blackberry but i am on sprint network

  • Does the iPhone 5 support Sprint's 4G Wimaxx?

this is the answer i got from an Apple Support representative before he disappeared without saying anything:
    Now Chatting with Kaeleb
Hi, welcome to the US Apple Online Store.  How are you?
does the iphone 5 work on sprints 4g wimaxx and 4g lte?
Yes it sure does, the iPhone is designed to run Sprints network wherever you have it available.
i was told by a sprint representative that the iphone 5 is only capable of supporting their 3G or 4G LTE and doesn't supoort their 4G wimaxx
    Then that information is correct
Our iPhone is designed to run whatever network the carrier allows for, if they have features not offered specifically they would be the ones with that information. The network information comes from the carrier.
yes but is the phone capable of it? it either has the antenna to connect to it or not
All iPhones have antennas to connect to a cellular network, the type of network it connects to is determined by the service provider, in your case Sprint.
I haven't heard from you for a few moments. Would you like to continue chatting?
your not giving me useful answers
I am giving you accurate information
Wether its useful or not, the information your looking for comes from Sprint.
there are specific antennas and frequencies that must be used depending on what you're trying to connect to
And since you have already discussed this with them, I have no idea why you are here asking us about something Sprint has already clarified for you.
your the company that designs and manufactures thephone
Your not getting it. As you said, we make the phone.
    With an Antenna
The type of network* is determined by the service provider.
because prior to ever speaking with sprint one of your apple representatives gave me information contradicting that
4G, 4GLTE etc, all made up by the carriers to determine their networks.
what im asking is: is the iphone 5 made to be compatible with 4g wimaxx
whether or not sprint allows it to be
I get what your asking but your not quite understanding the answer. The iPhone is made compatible to connect to cellular network. Apple does not have information regarding which network types it will connect to, its designed to work on a GSM or CDMA network, the network strength which is 4G etc, is determined by the carrier. Here at Apple we have nothing to do with that.
We don't make iPhones designed specifically for 4G, 4G LTE, 4g wimaxx or any other network. Its made to run on a GSM or CDMA type network.
you manufacture 3 different iPhone that have specific antennas radio frquencies based on which carrier its going to be activated on
From the your carrier determines the compatibility.
    Thats not true
We manufacture 2 types as I told you
    GSM and CDMA
Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA
a verizon iphone cant be used on sprints network and vice versa because the use different frequencies
    both cdma but different
like the differnence between wimaxx and lte
Not true, its because the phones are locked to the carriers services. It has nothing to do with Antennas, I am not sure where you are getting your information but if you can show me on our website where it says anything about 3 different Antennas then I would understand where you are coming from.
Let me get you the number to our technical support team so that we can find a resolution to this issue. 800-APL-CARE(800-275-2273)
    one moment and i will
I am a sales chat and here to assist customers with the online store, I am not going to be able to leave this chat open for you to contact technical support.
    i already spoke to them
Ok great, do you have any online sales questions I can answer for you?
they weren't able to give me an answer and aid to look online
I find that hard to believe, this team knows for a fact and are the experts they would never direct anyone to go online for that information. You may have spoke with customer service. You need to call technical support from the number I just have you.
    well they did
    GSM model A1428*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 2, 4, 5, 17) CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25) GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
This is a final warning to stop this type of response. If this conversation is not kept on a professional level, this chat will end.
    thats from your site
you asked me to show you thats what i did
You can call technical support but I need to assist customers with their purchases today.
i have been nothing but professional
    i am a customer
i own a macbook air and mac mini
as well as 4th gen ipod touch and an old iphone 3gs
Great, this is a sales chat.
and this is how youre going to treat me?
I have helped you to the best of my ability, your in the wrong department
All I am doing is getting you to the correct team, because obviously you have not been given the information your looking for.
well you helped me as much as your so called technical support that youre trying to refer me to. even though i already stated they werent able to help me
I guarantee you didn't speak with the technical support team. There is no way they would send a customer online to seek that information, they are well aware that the online store chat is for online sales assistance. I am not going to continue to argue with you. This chat is not going anywhere with this back and forth. If you want assistance you will call our technical support team.
    800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273)
thats who i spoke to at 10:03
put me on hold several times and said he was unsure and for me to look online
    in your chat community
Then I would suggest calling back because for whatever reason the agent you spoke with the last time must not have been an Apple trained technicians, as they get this question plenty and know the answer.
Thank you for choosing the Apple Store. If you have any additional questions, please chat us again.
You are currently not in a chat

All the information you need is right here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Notice there is no mention of WiMax.
It doesn't really matter anyway as Sprint is rolling their WiMax network down for use by MVNOs. Actual Sprint customers will not have access to WiMax at all. It was a failed experiment.

  • Does the eBooks created by iBooks Author support for iphone now?

I have been read some blogs discussing that the iPhone could gain new support for ebooks made by iBooks Author. And now, I wanna know whether the prediction is true or not. I can' t find any annoucement from Apple to confirm this point. Does anyone answer my confusion.

With the current software ..books created using iBooks Author cannot be viewed on iPhones.
iBooks Author creates books that can only...be used with iPads and on Macs with Mavericks installed, by using iBooks.
Thats it...no rumours. Blogs or to be more accurate...some of those who  contribute to them seem to either be totally stupid, or like to make themselves look as if they have inside knowledge.
Apple created iBooks Author to allow self publishers create and publish books to the store. But not just novels or text only type books. iBA made these books allow audio / video ..and much much more than any novel. That being so....most interactive multi media books will not really display well on a screen the size if the iPhone.
Apple are more concerned in getting iPads in use more by business and education at all levels.
The only rumour that may well become fact is a larger sized screen for a bigger iPad  mid to late 2014.

AIrplay is not supported on 1st gen, I assume you have a 2nd gen (black box). Not all apps are enabled for AirPlay, this would be up to the developers to do

Thank you very much, Phil Edelen

Thanks, my wife is the one serving I am retired and trying to follow her as much as I can.
I will schedule an appt for my next time stateside.  I have spent too much time on many Apple web sites trying to get an e-mail to communicate with anyone at Apple to no avail, only phone numbers. I guess if you are overseas with no international access you are out of luck communicating with them.  I did find one e-mail address but the reply was computer generated and provided useless links.
If anyone has any e-mail address for anyone at Apple I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil

  • IPhone 3G - No support for wired remote controls?

I have been looking all over the place for a wired remote for the iPhone 3G with no luck (and yes I have looked through this forum for an answer before asking my question).
I have attempted to use three wired remotes from my previous iPods, but two of them do not work at all and the third is completely unreliable. It is an Apple branded wired remote for the iPod video with similar design to the iPod Shuffle and allows you to connect your own headphones. It will only function after a hard-reset of the iPhone 3G, and strangely it takes about a minute or two for the buttons to work. If I unplug and replug the remote it will no longer be recognised and will not work again until the iPhone 3G is restarted.
I cannot see any wired remote products in the Apple store and I keep getting blank stares whenever I take this question to sales persons.
I use my iPod extensively and the only reason I bought an iPhone 3G was because I was tired of missing calls whilst listening to mp3s. I consider the wired remote as being essential for satisfactory use when out running, driving the car, etc. Without it the iPod functionally is all but useless to me.
Is there a wired remote that the iPhone 3G supports?
Additionally, are there any iPhone 3G compatible bluetooth devices that essentially perform the same function and allow you to attach your own headphones?

I've been looking for a decent remote for exactly the same reasons since I bought the 3g iPhone on release day. I settled for the Griffin SmartTalk as it allows you to answer calls, play / pause and skip (forward only meh!). Its cheap as chips (and it looks and feels as such) but it kinda does the job. Still waiting for a decent remote though. And A2DP for crying out loud! Its been long enough already. Then I could get this... http://www.foneshop.com/accessories/description/2486
which I feel is the best solution I've seen!

All those views and no responses, eh.
    Thanks Apple.
For continuing to throw your loyal customers under the bus and forcing them to buy new accessories with each generation of iPod/iPhone I will never, ever buy another Apple product again.

  • Netflix and lack of support for iPhone

Is it just me? I've been trying to stream a movie via netflix on the iPhone 4, however, every time it starts saying Loading Movie... it sort of "crashes" back to the video selection screen. Of course my first thought is to search every support and search engine known to man but that yielded no results. Netflix has no support for the iPhone app on their website at all, why release something when there's no support, isn't that called a beta? Please help if anybody has experienced this problem. Thank you in advance.

I have the same exact problem on my iPod Touch 3rd gen 32GB. On my iPhone 3GS however on the same wifi network everything works fine.
When the iPod Touch first boots up I get the Alert: "Cannot reach netflix.com. Please try again later." (subsequent times, this error is not shown, but the movies still do not play) Pressing ok continues to launch Netflix and shows movie "Like"s and selecting Instant Queue menu has no problem showing my own Instant Queue. The problem occurs when you attempt to Play a movie. Pressing Play results in a message "loading...", then for a brief second the Netflix landscape red screen appears and returns back to where I pressed the Play button.
Tried updating to 4.1 and tried reinstalling Netflix without any luck.

OK, as always I waited before downloading a new OS and I'm sure glad I did. On the APP store I sorted comments by most critical...and WHOA...what is Apple doing? No support for Logic 9, MS Office? Is Apple only trying to reach the iphone/iTouch crowd? HELP! I was going to buy a new Mac pro & two 27" monitors but until I see some real problem addressing by Apple...I'll keep what I have and see how everything pans out. If anyone has any comments to ally my fears, I welcome them. I've been a devoted Mac user since 1993. 7500; G4; G5; and my latest Mac Pro...Where do I go? Again...HELP!

    Hi there,
If you look through ALL the reviews, they are mainly good. I feel that Lion is an excellent upgrade, although not essential.
There have been some issues with MS Office, but right now, it is up to Microsoft to issue a Lion compatible update, which will come in time. Saying this, MS Office has been working fine on my mac, it seems to be an isolated issue.
Logic 9 seems like a strange issue. Again, an update looks to be coming soon, with Lion support.
I do not feel that apple only focusing on the iPhone and iPad user base. There are many features carried along, but the machine can still be used for pro tools and use just as well. It still is a fantastic, reliable, fast, easy to use OS, which I have had very few problems with. Some additions you may not use, but they don't get in the way. You will love the new Exposé, Mission Control, as it is great for pro users who have many windows open at once, and the new spaces. You may however, never use Launchpad, but you don't have to, just drag it away from the dock!
I really reccomend buying a mac with Lion, although if you are worried about bugs, wait a few months for the issues to be ironed out, and updates to be given. Because the update is so very cheap, I really think you can hardly go wrong. Try it out with your current mac, and if you like it, go ahead and buy your new ones.
Lion is fantastic, albeit maybe rushed.
    Any other queries, just ask,
    Nathan
