IPhone 5 touch screen does not respond when laid flat on a table. What do I do?

I just started noticing this when a friend sent me a text and I was unable to "slide to unlock" the screen to reply. I tried swiping through the apps, up and down, left and right--every gesture that an iPhone was built to detect. Even the assistive touch didn't respond! What's interesting now is that whenever I pick up the phone and it's no longer lying 180º on a table, it responds normally. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't be "worried" but it warrants a trip to the genius bar I would think.

I cannot use it. I can get calls and text messages but I can't respond because the screen is locked and I can't "slide to unlock" because the touch screen does not work.

  • My phone freezes and the touch screen does not respond to my touch.

My i-phone 4 has been freezing up on me as of late.  The buttons will still work but the touch screen does not respond to my touch.
Is my phone hooped or can I do sometinhg to fix it?

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPhone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPhone restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Portion of the iphone touch screen is not responding while typing (both horizontal and vertical). All other functions are O.K.  Is it LCD problem or any calibration problem ?  Some experts says the LCD screen is to be replaced ?

basic troubleshooting steps from the User Guide are restart, reset and restore.  Have any of these been tried?

  • New ipad2: touch screen does not respond

Hello, my name is Alessandro, I'm from Italy.
I bought a new iPad 2 from Apple Store. After a day of use the touch screen does not respond and sometimes executes commands at random. I updated the OS, I restored as a new device, but nothing has changed.
    Someone can help me?

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My iphone 5 screen does not respond to touch at all

I don't know what has happened to my phone.  The screen does not allow me to even swipe to unlock it.  It has lines all the way up the screen of different colours.  There is no cracks in the screen or anything like that and I dont recall dropping the phone.  The only buttons that work are the home button and the on/off switch.  I have tried to reset it but that doesnt work. Any ideas what could have happened and what I can do?

    Hi there LucyI-M,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for touchscreens found in the article below.

  • IPad touch screen does not respond even after full restore and update

    I have an iPad 2 64 GB
It has for a number of months intermittently stopped responding to any touch screen inputs. This issue began almost as soon as I opened the iPad for the first time. As it was happening very rarely and normally responded eventually, so I thought nothing of it.
This week the iPad will not respond to any touch input at all (Home, On/Off, Volume and Mute buttons still respond). I have tried the hard reset process a number of times and still nothing.
I backed up the device to my machine and applied the latest update 5.1.1 and still no response. I then did a factory reset and still nothing.
I have never dropped or damaged my iPad in any way.
Does anybody know of any ongoing issues with the touch screen or a solution to this problem?

    Thank you.
I've already booked myself in to the Genius Bar this week.
I suspect it is a hardware failure and more specifically a loose internal connection.

  • I dropped my phone and the very bottom of the touch screen does not respond. would i need to get the screen replaced or is there another way?

I've dropped my phone quite often, and the back of the phone is cracked, but I haven't bothered to fix it. I dropped my phone again today, and a tiny bit chipped off near the top edge of my phone. Later when i got home, I couldn't unlock my phone except when I slid my finger across the very top of the arrow and it JUST opened. but I can't use the bottom now, so on the keyboard, I can't type with the space bar and anything else at the very bottom of the touch screen.

At Apple Store for $149 you can get a replacement iPhone 4 which will be just like New. Everything will work perfect and the there will be no chips or cracks. New battery and buttons too. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple.

  • My Q10 Screen blacks out & touch screen does not respond randomly

Hi Gang. Hoping someone can help... I've got a Q10 (only accessory is a screen scratch film) and recently the problem with the screen randomly going black has untenably increased after updating to the new OS.
    Key facts: T
he ONLY two ways the screen will come back is:
A: I restart by either removing the battery or pressing the power&mute button for 8 secs (and currently its now going black as soon as the hub initialises) OR
B: It <always> comes back when I plug in the USB cable connected to either power or pc and this seems to job it back to normality for a hour or so.
The phone is still operating when this may happen: for one example in the middle of a phone call (usually when i activate speaker phone) the screen will go black whilst still talking fine… but if i try and end the call/deactivate the speaker phone/do anything I hear the error beeps when i inevitably start mashing the whole keypad - but the screen will not reappear or read <any> finger gestures or singular power button pressing.
Btw. The phone passed all tests on the BBVirtualExpert App.
I have just installed the new OS 10.3.1.1779 (but it was happening before)
Anyone have any ideas? Anything to try or should I repair or get a new one. Thanks in Advance.

I have the exact same problem. Can't find a fix or answers anywhere

  • Multi-touch Screen Does Not Respond to Tapper

My Ipod touch 64gb 3G just recently got problems with its multi-touch feature. It's a subtle flaw and I only noticed it while playing Tap Tap Revenge. I used to have 100% scores in some songs but now I can't even get anything above 96% in the same songs.
I observed that while there will be two notes coming down at the same time, one a simple note and the other one, a tapper note, or two concurrent tapper notes, the screen doesn't pick up the two notes, or picks up only the simple note, and drops the tapper note. It used to be able to pick up both just fine.
While playing other apps, I also noticed that there will be times when the same thing happens... while making bubbles in the Spongebob app, there are times when I couldn't make two bubbles at the same time, or when I tap two spots at once for a long time, only one registers a response. On other accounts, the screen would work just fine (i.e.: sliding, tapping two spots quickly).
I did restarting, resetting, re-installing the apps, restoring, but it still doesn't work. I will appreciate any comments on this matter. Thanks.

I just got my unit fresh back from the shop. They fixed it!
They have isolated the problem with my unit and they told me that it was too full (I have 63 gb worth of songs, movies and apps of the 64 gb) and this according to the technician was the reason for my problem. They removed all the contents of my Ipod, I re-installed the bare essentials, and lo and behold, the apps are working perfectly now.
    Thanks for the help!!!

  • My screen seems to have frozen and does not respond when I touch. I tried to shut it off and when the red slider comes up, it does not let me slide it off.

My ipad screen seems to have frozen. I tried to turn it off and the red slider does not respond when I slide it. What can I do?

Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. If you see the silver apple it's rebooting. Let it do that and see if you're unfrozen.
