Iphone 5 touchscreen issue with iOS 7 update

I downloaded the upgrade the day it came out and there were no issues for the first few days. Then about a week later my touchscreen started wigging out. I would not even touch the screen and letters no where near where my finger was would start being typed into the box. I could not select anything on the screen cause it would scroll and select other things, and I was having issues with closing out the apps.
I am averaging 3-5 hard reboots a day and the soft reboots don't seem to have any effect on it.
When I do the hard reboots, it will work for just a few min and then do the same as before.
I restored the phone back to factory settings and redownloaded the phone and I didnt think that I was going to get the password in for the apple ID cause it was doing the same as before. No dropping or wetting of the phone has occurred. I was also able to update to the 7.0.2 and this did nothing.
Anyone have any suggestions or having the same problems?

I have these issues, on both my iphone 5 and ipad using ios7.0.2 (and all apps have been updated also. I am actually amazed that this forum is not full of complaints about this, such are the number of issues and regularity of their occurrence! I have spoken to friends who also experience freezing, crashing and an erratic touchscreen since updating to ios 7.
The issues (on both iphone 5 and ipad) can be summarised as follows: 1- touchscreen behaves erratically, keyboard use and scrolling in pages no longer as easy as before. 2- apps crash, regularly, particularly mail and calendar. I have linked both mail and calendar to office 365 and wonder if this is anything to do with it?  Have to close and restart the app in order to resolve. 3- the whole os crashes & freezes requiring a hard reboot.
I wish I could reinstall the previous os!

  • Has anyone had app update issues with iOS 8.1?

I'm running iOS 8.1 on a iPhone 6+.  If I try to update an app from the app store without being logged in, it will hang the process and the update will fail.
Previously, with my iPhone 4 and iOS 7.1.2 the app store would ask me to log in when an app update was attempted without being logged in.
The work around until apple fixes this bug is to ensure you are logged in BEFORE attempting an app update.  An honest techie at the local apple store admitted this is a bug (one of many) in iOS 8.1.  Has anyone else had this issue with iOS 8.1

Nope, I'm able to update an app in iOS 8.1, even if I'm not first logged into the iTunes & App Store in Settings.  It prompts me to update the app, then I sign in with my password.
Do you have Touch ID enabled for App Store or not?

If you have iPhone 3G, the latest and greatest is IOS 4.2.1.
If you have iPhone 3GS or later, you can only update to IOS 6.0.1.
For iPhone 5 and iPad mini, you can update to IOS 6.0.2.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for an iPhone 3GS.

  • When will these issues with iOS 8.0.2 be fixed?

Admittedly, this problem has been going on since Apple released the core iOS 8 software, but it's glaring (worse) here. Let's go to the beginning.
I own an iPhone 4S 8gb and upon release of the core iOS 8 software, I installed it like a fool and I didn't know that a lot of problems came with it, so the next morning, my iPhone's internet (connected to a WiFi network) was shotty as sin and I really needed it at the time because of a Transit thing I was doing until recently. The features that came with the iOS 8 is impressive, but I also was shocked when I couldn't even listen to my music for a whole day (I fixed that when I hooked up and synced in iTunes), despite my library having the same number of songs before the update on the iPhone. Now, I've heard of these problems from a friend who apparently works for the Apple tech department days after I discovered them myself, so I waited for the next update in hopes that it'd fix all of the core iOS 8's problems, but... short and to the point, this update is even worse than the core software. Problems include, but not limited to:
Safari lags like crazy at times, especially when you're trying to type something. Also, Safari seems to not direct you to Google unless you searched for the topic again; I don't like doing that. I like typing in a research topic in Google's engine only once.
Siri is much worse than the 7.1.2 software; the assistant can't tell what you're saying 69% of the time. I'm also not pleased with holding the home button to speak to the assistant and continue holding it until you finish speaking to her/him.
Apps freeze and become unresponsive and in common cases, they crash in the middle of the night (a perfect example would be YouTube) while I'm sleeping (not 100% sure who's to blame for this, Apple or the app developers themselves).
(refer to the lagging Safari bullet) The keyboard lags on you badly and I'm not just talking about Safari, this problem is every where you need the keyboard in, including basic texting in iMessage.
The Music app apparently can't judge your selection at times, like, when you select a song from your library, it takes 3 hard pushes on the touchscreen to select it and sometimes, it randomly selects the next song under the one you want to listen to.
Did I mention the constant lag?
I'll probably find more problems as I scan though the iPhone tonight, but above are the main problems that I have with 8.0.2, not 8. I know what you're probably saying: "Why not just downgrade back to 7.1.2 where you didn't have barely any problems at all with your iPhone?" Well, apparently, Apple stopped signing the software when I tried to restore the iPhone in iTunes to that firmware, so I find it completely pointless to try to downgrade. My core question is "When will these issues with iOS 8.0.2 be fixed?" I know the iPhone 4S can work with the newest iOS, because, if it wasn't, iTunes wouldn't have notified me of the update. I was thinking of getting an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus June or July of next year, but if the software is still buggy at the time, I'll stick to my 4S until my contract ends at the end of 2015

Also, I've noticed that the 4S' battery life is horrible even if there's just music going on in the background. Common battery life for the iPhone is 3 hours (just having music and data active) and most of the time, I'd have to carry my USB charging cable with wall socket so I don't have to worry about it shutting down on the go and I know it's the software that's the problem because it wasn't like this prior to iOS 8.0.2 or even the core iOS 8. Common battery life for the iPhone on iOS 7.1.2 was atleast 7-9 hours on the same conditions as listed above.

    Craig,
Your analogy is excellent! Perfectly captures the opinion I have heard from many. The reason that I have encouraged you to update is because really I, personally, have never experienced an issue with an update, and neither has my signifiant other. Call us lucky! I will not lie to you and say that that means that all updates are going to flawless -- far from it. Many people, as you described, find themselves in the exact situation described by your analogy, and they take to the internet to describe and outline these problems. It is unfortunate that iOS 8 has been such a buggy release for so many, and disheartening that Apple has not yet found a solution for some of these major bugs.
I do ask you to remember though that most of what you find when looking for opinions on iOS 8 will be people having problems with their device -- those whose update went through perfectly have no reason to question it, and thus it can make it seem like everyone writing on iOS 8 is having a problem. There is most definitely a large amount of people with problems after the update, but most likely an equally large amount of people who did not have problems and simply didn't post about it.
My significant other is not a heavy user. She uses her phone an average amount, but she most definitely does not rely on it as much as you have outlined above. I do not want to deceive you into thinking that just because she had no problems that means that you will not encounter any either. To answer your question, she updated about a week after each release of iOS 8 (iOS 8.1, iOS 8.1.2, etc.)
I also do not want you to think that I am a completely neutral party either. I am a fan of Apple, I will admit to that, but trust that I try to speak from as unbiased a position as I possibly can.
As far as your concerns with Apple go, I hear you. Many people would agree with you. Apple markets itself with the concept of flawlessly functioning devices, and that means that for some, when issues do occur, it is even more than just a bug because they bought the device on the promise of it flawlessly functioning. Yes, the functioning factor is part of the reason behind the higher prices of Apple products, but remember you also get a one year hardware warranty and over the phone assistance, access to the Apple Store and Genius Bar (both of which have excellent customer service, a fact that is widely agreed upon), as well as features such as iCloud storage. Widespread bugs like the ones that have occurred with iOS 8 are uncharacteristic of Apple, but in the end they will make mistakes, it is how they fix them that characterizes the company.
From everything that you have stated, here is my solution for you: If your phone works right now, it works. It will continue to work if you do not update, that is guaranteed. What is not guaranteed is that if you update, the phone will function even better. Both you and I are aware that iOS 8 has caused just as many issues as it has resolved -- updating here is a gamble, if you rely on your phone as much as I am thinking you do, it is probably better to take the safer route that guarantees the phone will work. Keep in mind, iOS 8.2 is right around the corner. More bug fixes may be introduced, and that may be a better time to update.
You bring up some excellent points. In the end, this decision is all up to you. I'm just a guy on the internet with some strong opinions!
    Nick.

  • Is there an issue with iOS 8.2?

It seems like there are a lot of people that are experiencing issues with iOS 8.2.  I guess it was just a coincidence that this happened to me when I unknowingly updated my iTouch out of the box.
Missing songs and playlists after update
Nothing has worked to fix this.  Is there an Certified Apple representative on this board that can address this with all of us?  If so, what is the timeframe for fixing these issues?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • If I'm overseas, and I use iMessage not connected to wifi, and I'm messaging someone who has an iPhone as well with ios 7, will get charged SMS/mms fees?

if I'm overseas, and I use iMessage not connected to wifi, and I'm messaging someone who has an iPhone as well with ios 7, will get charged SMS/mms fees?

No, but cellular data will be used at whatever international roaming rate you carrier charges for data in whatever country.
Exchanging iMessages requires the same thing as email - an available internet connection. SMS/MMS is completely separate from iMessage.

  • If there's not gonna be dynamic wallpaper for iPhone 4's with iOS 7, can there at least be a panoramic feature??!!

If there's not gonna be dynamic wallpaper for iPhone 4's with iOS 7, can there at least be a panoramic feature??!!

No. From the iOS 7 features page:
Panorama format is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch (5th generation). Square and video formats and swipe to capture are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).
Sorry, but if you want those features, you'll need a newer iPhone.
    Regards.

iPhone 4 crashed during ios update (5.0.1) and won't restore. anyone know how i can get my iPhone working again?

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 for details.
Then you can restore your phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
