Iphone 5 touchscreen on fritz

I opened the box and pushed the button and the screen went haywire like a 1960s TV.  The image seemed to nearly resolved, then never quite did.  I eventually try resetting.  No luck.  Finally the screen just totally stopped working -- I can tell it's on but there is nothing but black - no image at all.  Help??

Did you already try these suggestions?

    Hello,
I had that problem as well and the apple support suggested to turn off the LTE-mode to have a running system and try to exchange the micro-sim by my provider.
    THAT was not an option!
BUT it seems to solve my problem in the following way after trying a lot of possibilties:
In the menue properties/help (don't know the exact english word, because I run my phone in german)
I switched on the nice feature 'flash LED' by incomming calls, msgs, and push infos.
Today the flash feature was responding to different push notes very slowly.
By switching this feature off the LTE-mode-tochscreen-not-responding-problem disappeared.
We tried this on a other iphone, not having the metioned problem, and switched the LED-flash:
the problem appeared. Switching the LED-flash off: problem disappeared!
It seems to be a bug that the LED will hint Calls and MSGs in combination with the LTE mode!
treated my phone very hard today to double check, but its still ok.
    @Apple:
Please fix that issue in the next update.
Hope, this helps you guys as well.

My iphone 5s, touchscreen is not working.
I have tried to reboot, holding home button and on/off. This did not work.
What must I do, I can not access the phone. Alarm is going, I can snooze it with on/off button. (Cant do this every 9 minutes!!!!)

    Hi,
    This fixed the phone.
Turned phone off, holding on/off button and home button till after apple logo, when it goes black again.
Logged onto iCloud, remove device from Find my iPhone.
    Updated ITunes
    Plugged phone into computer
Held on/off button and home button till after apple logo, until it went black, then only held home button
    Phone goes into recovery mode.
ITunes registers phone as asks if you would like to restore phone to factory settings.
    Once restore down, phone worked.
Lost everything other than contacts which were backed up to iCloud. (Lesson learnt - back up device.)
Thank you for your assistance yesterday.

  • IPhone 3G touchscreen issues

I woke up the other day to find that my iphone 3g touchscreen was not responsive, as in screen is perfectly fine, and phone starts up fine, but does not let me slide to unlock or shut down... so tried a hard reset of the phone by holding down the home and power button to no avail...the i backed up phone and tried restoring it but still nothing... any ideas of what it could be? i read online that it my be the digitizer and if so is that covered under original warranty?

Exactly i have the same problem from Day 1 when i upgraded my Iphone 3g and Ipad to ios4.2
iPhone 3G and iPad shows the same behaviour. When i plug-in to it's respective wall adapter it will show charging for couple of mins and then go off charge. When i check after couple of hours beliveing that it would have full charged i can see that it has charged some 5% more.
But when connected to PC, charging works perfectly.
Someone please shed light on this, is it a known bug on iOS4.2?

  • IPhone's Touchscreen non-responsive

    Hello,
Just a few minutes ago, my iPhone's touchscreen had suddenly stop working for no apparent reason, even though the home and lock buttons are still functional.
I just don't know why it quit working on me. Unbelievable.
    Any help is welcomed.

Have you tried any of the troubleshooting in the manual?
    Page 34:
"If something is not working right, restarting or resetting iPhone will likely solve the
    problem.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and
hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the

  • How can I control iPhone without touchscreen?

I want to control the iPhone without using the touchscreen. Specifically, I want a custom app to receive simple commands through pushing of  3 or 4 external buttons.  I understand this can be done through the dock pins 12 and 13.  I think I would need a microcontroller that would then send input to the app.  I just dont understand the technical issues or possiblities with this approach.
Another idea is to use bluetooth connectivity.  Once again, 3 or 4 buttons sending 3 or 4 differnet commands to the app.  I just want to be able to scroll through options in the app or change a few settings.   Once again, not sure of the technical issues or possiblites with sending input to apps via bluetooth.
For example, my app is a stopwatch.  I want one button to start the timer, once button to record laps, one button to scroll through specifics of each lap once completed, and one button to stop the timer.
I also need to understand if I can disable the screen lock so I can avoid the SLIDE TO UNLOCK since I wont be able to access the touchscreen.
I think I will need to jailbreak the phone or work with Apple on hardware accessiblity but I'm just trying to figure out how to accomplish this.

I also need to understand if I can disable the screen lock so I can avoid the SLIDE TO UNLOCK since I wont be able to access the touchscreen.

  • IPhone 5 touchscreen issue

My iPhone 5 will not unlock normally. I have to press the top button numerous times for the touch screen to respond. This means that I am unable to answer phone calls unless my phone is already unlocked. I have tried restarting/restoring but nothing helps. What should I do?

If you restored the device as new, without adding additional content, and the touchscreen is still not responding, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store to have the hardware checked.
I just read this again. You say you have to press the sleep/wake button several times to get the screen to respond, but you can answer a call if the device is already unlocked? What happens if you tap the home button? Are you saying that tapping the sleep/wake button will not awaken the screen? If you tap the home button, does the screen awaken so you can slide to answer?

  • IPhone 2G touchscreen dead

I woke up this morning to turn off my iPhone alarm, only to find a dead touchscreen. My iphone 2g is having the same issue as:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1827?viewlocale=en_US
I followed all the troubleshooting steps and even restored to my last back up a few days ago. I don't expect much help since it's OOW, but the following post indicated a similar issue and was able to receive help.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2076249&tstart=0
Has anyone else experienced the same issue lately? I've also read from other sources that apple may be able to provide service for OOW iPhones purchased around a certain date within a range of serial numbers. Is this valid?
I even missed the rebate given by apple for those who bought the iPhone at increased prices, ;(

    I had same issue,
I didn't received no help from aple.
I called to 3 stores in lithuania, they replayed that they do not fix iphones, went to one shop they replayed that they do not fix 2g iphones anymore.
I am a student in denmark now. So I though diferent replays will be in differnet country, but even worse. I went to apple store and they said that it will cost 500$ to replace my screen.
At the same day I came back home I threw my 2g deadstriped iphone through the window into garbage container house. At least that was fun.

  • Iphone 5 touchscreen issue with iOS 7 update

I downloaded the upgrade the day it came out and there were no issues for the first few days. Then about a week later my touchscreen started wigging out. I would not even touch the screen and letters no where near where my finger was would start being typed into the box. I could not select anything on the screen cause it would scroll and select other things, and I was having issues with closing out the apps.
I am averaging 3-5 hard reboots a day and the soft reboots don't seem to have any effect on it.
When I do the hard reboots, it will work for just a few min and then do the same as before.
I restored the phone back to factory settings and redownloaded the phone and I didnt think that I was going to get the password in for the apple ID cause it was doing the same as before. No dropping or wetting of the phone has occurred. I was also able to update to the 7.0.2 and this did nothing.
Anyone have any suggestions or having the same problems?

I have these issues, on both my iphone 5 and ipad using ios7.0.2 (and all apps have been updated also. I am actually amazed that this forum is not full of complaints about this, such are the number of issues and regularity of their occurrence! I have spoken to friends who also experience freezing, crashing and an erratic touchscreen since updating to ios 7.
The issues (on both iphone 5 and ipad) can be summarised as follows: 1- touchscreen behaves erratically, keyboard use and scrolling in pages no longer as easy as before. 2- apps crash, regularly, particularly mail and calendar. I have linked both mail and calendar to office 365 and wonder if this is anything to do with it?  Have to close and restart the app in order to resolve. 3- the whole os crashes & freezes requiring a hard reboot.
I wish I could reinstall the previous os!

  • White iphone 4 touchscreen dead spots

    Hello Everyone,
I just bought an officially unlocked iphone 4 and there are dead spots on a specific part of the touchscreen. When I try to type in the virtual keyboard, some letters, numbers, and characters do not respond; 'w' and '2' and '/'.
I also tried to move apps around the same positions and they move back as if I removed my finger from the touchscreen.
I tried power off/on, reset holding sleep/wake button with power button for 15 sec, and restored the iphone to its original factory settings. None of those solved the problem .
Anyone facing this problem?? Is there any solution to this problem??
    Your help is appreciated..

    Solved (for me)
I had exactly the same issue - a portion of the screen on my 3G was unresponsive (the lower row of icons on the home screen) but seemed OK in SMS and Safari.
I tried backing up and restoring to no avail and was all set to book a date with the Genius bar... but guess what? I went to the movies last night and switched off my phone for at least 2 hours. When I switched it back on everything worked perfectly!

  • IPhone 5 touchscreen not working???

I was sitting in the car playing a game on my iPhone and out of no where the touch screen stopped being able to be touched. The screen timed out and I can't even swipe to unlock. The screen isn't frozen cause my "dynamic wallpaper" still moves, and when I hold the lock button to turn it off it gives me the option to swipe to power off BUT I CANT SWIPE. I've reset it to factory settings and I've done the "hard reset" where you hold the lock and home button at the same time at least 10 times. Everything that I read on the internet says it's because of water damage, but it can't be because it doesn't have water damage. Anyone have any ideas? I've done just about everything I can think of. I can't get a new iPhone right now so I'm kinda screwed.

    Hi kyl3w,
If the touch screen on your iPhone is not functioning properly, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • IPhone 5 touchscreen won't respond until lock button is pressed.

Got a wierd problem.  I replaced a cracked display in my wife's iPhone 5 and now the touchscreen is having issues.  It happens like this:
    1. Hit the home button, lock/unlock button or a call comes in
    2. touchscreen doesn't respond
    3. hit the lock/unlock button to lock the phone
    4. hit home button or lock/unlock again
    5. touchscreen works perfectly now
Happens every single time.  With or without case.  I was wondering if it might be a grounding issue, but not sure how to fix it.  What's the deal?

Bummer.  Try asking at http://www.ifixit.com or some place similar.
The iPhone is not considered user servicable. Apple does not sell iPhone parts. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts.
Now that you opened it yourself, Apple won't touch it in or out of warranty.
