IPhone 5 wifi auto connect

My new iphone 5 connects to my work WPA2 enterprise wifi when I manually select the network in settings, but if I walk off campus and then return, the phone does not automoatically detect and re-connect to the same wifi network.  I've already done general>reset>reset network settings to no avail.
Any suggestion on how to make iphone 5 automatically reconnect to known wifi networks?

I'm having the same problem with both of our new iphone 5s.  I've seen a fair amount of discussion in other places online as well.  Have you had a resolution to this problem?

  • Jabber for iPhone force auto-connect

    Hello,
Does anybody know if it is possible to force Jabber for iPhone/iPad to connect to a wireless SSID network as soon as it is available?
We recently implemented Jabber and we are noticing that some times, users arrive to the office, where corporate SSID is available, but even if jabber is running on the background, it won't automatically reconnect to the network.
User will have to manually open the application and wait for Jabber to reconnect.
Is it possible to make this process automatic for the user?
    Regards,

    CUCM version is 8.6.2.
    Presence version is 8.6.4
Jabber for iPhone & iPad is 9.6.2
The issue is that if Jabber is running on iPhone's background, even if wireless connection is activated, it seems to disconnect. In order to reconnect, user has to manually open Jabber and wait for the connection to establish, especially to make calls.
The same applies when a user is running Jabber, he arrives from outside to the company and wireless reconnects to corporate SSID. Jabber won't automatically reconnect until user opens the app.
    Regards,

  • HT1695 How do you disable an existing WiFi auto connect?

I have an Apple iPhone 4.  Under Settings > General > Network > WiFi it states "Known networks will be joined automatically.  If no know networks are available, you will be asked before joining a new network." My question is, how do you disable the automatic connection to known networks?
    Thanks,
    Sue

If you are near the Wifi network you want to disable, it will be listed in the listing of available networks, obviously.
Tap the blue arrow on the right side of the wifi's name.  If the network offers auto join and auto login you can turn them off here.  Not all networks offer this. If you just want to keep your phone from automatically joining a specific network you have used in the past you can tap Forget this network and you will be disconnected from it.
Or if you want to disable all wifi networks you have joined in the past you can reset your network settings.
Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network Settings
this will reset your cellular connection as well as your wifi connections.  You will have to enter any ID and Password information for the networks that require you to log in, such as your home wifi network (You do have your home network password protected right?) but you will have disabled your wifi connections.

  • Iphone wifi dropping connection when locked

all in the title but, when locked it forgets the wi-fi password, and so i have to re enter it.
    iphone 4
belkin wireless n router with wpa passphrase.

Are you hiding your network identification (SSID)?  If you are doing that, it is a pretty common complaint.  In either case, the fix is about the same:
    Fix 1
When you are connected to your network, tap Settings > WiFi > and then tap the blue ">" next to the network name with the check mark.
The next screen will give you your connection information.  Scroll until you find "Forget this Network" and tap that.
That should return you to the Settings > WiFi page.  Tap Other, and then re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
    Fix 2
tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Your Network Settings
When the iPhone restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Fix 3 - if all else fails
Reboot your router (uun plug it from it's power source).

  • WiFi--Auto connect

I use my MacAir [purchased August 2011] running the latest version of Lion in many locations and thus have multiple WiFi networks saved and set to be "remembered."  However everytime I close my laptop I have to click on WiFi then select the network manually despite my setting being "Automatically connect" mode (for lack of a more techincal term).  My understanding is that every time a "remembered network" is available my MacAir is supposed to automatically connect.  I
Is there a setting I am no utlizing or inadvertently utilizing that I should or should not be to keep from having to manually select a  WiFi network?
I appreciate any help in advance.

Ever figure this out?  I have the same prob with my iMac after installing Airport.. Never had this problem when using my Netgear router..

  • Nokia c7 wifi auto connects

My nokia c7 wifi autoconnects which i dont want. I diconnect and 2 seconds later it connects again, how do i turn this off?

If widgets have been ruled out, other common things that could be connecting to the internet are e-mail, Mail for Exchange, and perhaps A-GPS and network-based positioning if you use Ovi Maps or geo-tagging in the camera.

  • Auto connect using more the one iPhone 4S

MEX-BT3100P will Pair 2 iPhone 4s successfully individually. But will only auto connect from the last paired device. I would then have to go into iPhone setup and select Sony Automotive in Bluetooth settings before it will connect. Now this iPhone will auto connect and the other iPhone will not auto connect. Tried powering off the first paired device completely before trying to auto connect the 2nd device. Still no go. Tried using BT SIGNL but it does not detect the iPhone without going into phone's settings to connect.

What sort of card is it, debit or credit ? If it's a debit card then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined. If you don't have a credit card to use in its place then are iTunes gift cards available in your country to use as your payment method instead ?
If it's a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management

  • Iphone 4s cannot auto connect to home wifi after updating to ios 6.1.2

My iphone 4s will not auto connect to my home wifi after updating to IOS 6.1.2.  I can manually connect to my phone to wifi but it will get disconnect if I'mnot using the phone. Any way to reslove?

Once the phone goes into sleep mode, it is supposed to auto disconnect from wifi to save battery. Are you saying that once you wake the phone up it will not auto connect at that time?
Suggest you try and forget the network, then go in and try the reset network settings again and then try to rediscover the network and connect again. Have you tried to do a reset of the phone, but holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release?

  • TS1398 Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.2 my phone will not auto-connect to the home WiFi network.

I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.2 and now my phone will not auto-connect to the home wifi network.  Each time I leave and return to within range of the network I have to remember to manually connect, otherwise it continues to use 4G for data.  The credentials are saved (all I have to do is tap it to connect) but just won't happen automatically any more.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Tried the reset multiple times. No go. Before the IOS 7.0,2 update my devices were connecting to home WIFI eventually.

  • IPhone can't connect to my wifi, can connect to others. My other devices are fine. Basic T-shooting steps fail.

Sorry for the repeat post but I want to get more help with this.
Prior to problem: All devices surfing wirelessly on Airport Express.
Replaced Airport Express with Time Capsule.
Problem: Wife's iPhone4 (5.1.1) can not surf on wifi provided by my time capsule. All my other devices (iMac, Mac Air, iPad and my iPhone) can. Wife's iPhone can surf on an unsecure network somewhere nearby in my apartment complex. (Which to me, rules out a hardware problem).
Steps taken: Tapped iPhone wifi On/Off multiple times with no change. "Forget this network" multiple times with no change. Reset iPhone Network Settings multiple times with no change. Restored iPhone using iTunes as New iPhone once with no change. (Since doing that, I have restored with back up of iPhone settings and data.) Powered Time Capsule on/off several times with no change. Turned wireless security off with no change. Security is back on. It is WPA 2 Personal with a lengthy password. I'm not getting the "incorrect password" msg. Renewed lease multiple times with no change.
Other indications: 3G is in upper left. Status wheel is spinning next to my network's name. On the initial "Settings" window, my network name is shown (as if it were connected. But tapping it and going to the "wifi networks" window shows the list of available networks with the status wheel spinning next to mine.) Tapping the blue arrow on my network name leads to the window that has "forget this network" at the top, and a list of blank fields: IP address, subnet mask, router and so on. DHCP is chosen, HTTP proxy is OFF. Sometimes, the top two fields (ip address and subnet mask) have values filled in, but the rest of the fields don't.
On my Time Capsule, as seen via Airport Utility (V5.5.3), 3 devices are shown as connected. Clicking this provides a listing. My wife's iPhone wi-fi address is listed. It's "rate" however is 1. My imac is 216 and my iphone is 65. BTW, iOS devices drop off the list when they go to sleep. No big deal there.
Back to Airport Utility, in the summary tab... status is normal, version is 7.6.1, wireless mode is "create a wireless network", security is "wpa/wpa2 personal", channel is 149 auto and 1 auto (I tried changing 1 to 11 with no change), connect using "ethernet" and finally my IP address begings with 76. 76.xxx.xxx.xxx
Moving to the "Wireless" tab of Airport utility... wireless mode is "create a wireless network", radio mode is auto, radio ch. selection is auto, wireless security is wpa/wpa2 personal, "remember password in keychain" is checked.   Now Clicking on the "wireless network options" button..... 5ghz is not checked, country is USA, multicast rate is "low", t-mit power is "100%", WPA group key timeout is 1 day (it used to be 1 hour but this has made no change in the problem), "use wide channels" is not checked, "create a closed network" is not checked.
MAC access control is not enabled. But it was enabled previously and I added my devices by their Wi-Fi addresses one at a time until i decided to turn it off due to this problem. this resulted in no change with the problem.
Personally, I feel the prob lies with the DHCP and ip address and related fields, but I don't know enough about what their values should be in relation to my other devices to alter them on my own.

I pasted below a response that helped.... sort of. I followed the directions below. At the end, all my devices were connected to my network. BUT, the last device I connected, my MacAir, did not stay connected for long. It now has the exclamation point in the middle of the wi-fi icon in the top right of the screen.
This event agrees with my original problem: It was my wife's iPhone that was the last to be connected to my network and the only one to fail to connect.
Is there a limit to how many devices can be connected to my time capsule? I have 5 devices. What is "extending?" Do I need to do that?

This solved my questionRe: Airport Express wifi network not working
    Mar 1, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to Don_McCracken)
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Make sure that the setting for Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update to save any changes
Then power down the entire network...all devices....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem/router first and let it run a full minute by itself
Power up the Express the same way
Continue powering up devices one at a time the same way until everything is powered back up
You should be able to connect through the Express and on to the Internet

  • WiFi on New iPad won't auto connect at home

Even though I have ASK TO JOIN NETWORKS off and successfully type the WiFi password, the iPad defaults to cellular if left in stand by for a few hours.
I can work in WiFi, but if I come back to the iPad later in the day. I'll have to join the network again.
I have an Airport Extreme (latest update) and use it with a first generation iPad, 2 iPhone4s and an iPhone 3G, all of which work fine. Only the new iPad had this problem.
I have my work network setup also, and that auto connects, so it might be the relationship between the Airport and the new iPad.
Am i the only one with this issue?
    Thanks

It's strange, I did searches with similar issues but didn't find any until I posted this. Then several came up as related. Sorry for the duplication.

  • IPhone WiFi will not connect to home network.

iPhone will not connect to home network.  WiFi is on and correct password is entered.  iPhone error msg says incorrect password.  Reloaded network software and did not activate password but iPhone still shows network as locked.

Some people who experience issues connecting to or even seeing there Wireless network should follow these steps.
These steps are just a guideline and its not 100% that it will fix your issue.
Mainly, if the issue persists, its possible there is an issue with your iOS settings or a hardware failure within your iPhone or iPad, specifically the Wifi adapter.
You would want to follow these articles to do a reset & restore prior to saying it is a hardware issue.
    #1: Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    #2: Restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You will need to access your Admin control panel for your router.
If you have an Airport Extreme BaseStation, you just need to open the Airport Admin Utility found in Applications > Utilities Folder.
Enter your credentials and you will have access to the settings from there.
For a PC: Do NOT use the CD that came with your router. That is used for people who do not know how to setup a router properly and these settings will not be available for you in most cases.
If you are using anything other than an Airport BaseStation:
    Open a web browser:
    In the address bar, type:
192.168.1.1 (Mainly used for Asus, Linksys, etc) or 192.168.0.1 (D-link,Belkin)
How to figure out what the IP address is to type in?
    Windows:
Hold down the windows key, then press R. This brings up the run box. In that box type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press enter. In the black box that pops up, type "ipconfig" (without quotes) then hit enter. Your default gateway is the IP address for your router. It will start with 192.168.....
Take that number and put it into the address bar in your browser and hit enter. It will then ask you for a user name and password. For linksys, it's admin for both. If you have another brand, just google "default password for ******" replacing the asterisks with the brand name of the router. Once you have entered the correct user name and password, you're there.
    Mac:
1.From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
2.In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.
3.Select the appropriate port. For example, choose Ethernet for broadbandconnections, AirPort for wireless, or Internal Modem for dial-up.
4.Click Advanced... , and in the sheet that opens, click the TCP/IP tab.
The number next to "Router:" is your default gateway.
Once you get into your admin panel do these setting changes.
1.On the router change the channel for the 2.4mhz band to channel 1, 6, or 11 (recommended), rather than auto.
2.Also set that channel width to 20hz only, rather than 20hz or 40hz (Auto)
3.Make sure Security is set to WPA/WPA2-Personal. Anything else will cause issues. (of course, make sure you know your password for security)
4.Make sure to Apply/Save these settings. Sometimes the wireless connectivity will go out during this change and will come back on within 15-30 seconds.
5.On the iPhone/iPad go to Settings > Wi fi > click the blue arrow beside the network > Select Forget network
6.Go to Settings > general > reset > reset network settings
7.Power the phone off and on. Connect again

  • Iphone Wi-fi not auto connecting (this time)

Usually it does every day I come home from work, it will auto connect to my wireless network without me having to do anything.
Today I was down the block and out of range of my wifi network, it tried to connect to another wifi network in which i denied access to it. Then it switched to "E" edge.
When I got home, right next to the wifi router, it was still showing an "E", so I was wondering why it didnt auto connect to the router. - So i went into general settings, and it searched and found my network, and I tapped the SSID Name of my network and joined with no problem.
My wifi is encrypted and you need a password to access it, everything is stored in my iphone, and it connected.
Was wondering why it didnt auto-connect, especialy if my setting in the iphone is set to auto connect to my trusted network..
weird.. Im thinking, because I hit deny to not connect to that network down the block, that it was also denying my Trusted network when I got home.
    Possible bug?

Try shutting down the iphone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top until you see slide to power off. then hold to turn the iphone back on.
If the iphone does not auto-connect.
You might want to try the following.
    go into settings > wifi
choose your network and tap on forget network.
turn the iphone off and back on again.
then set up your network connecting again.
    Hope this helps

I can't send emails from iPhone until I connect to my wifi at home. I am with bigpond and have a bigpond email address. Can anyone help me?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
