IPhone 5...wifi is on, but showing 4G

I checked in setting and my wifi is checked that it is on, but I am showing 4G at the top. Any ideas how to fix? Am I using data or am I using wifi?

If you are not seeing the wifi symbol at top of your iPhone screen, you are using cell data.
Do you have wifi router/hotspot where you are at?
Tap Settings > Wifi and it will show local wifi networks.
Tap the one you want to join.

Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset network connections.
Other basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, and restore.

Need more information. What phone and router have you got? Are other devices working with the router? Did you update router firmware recently? Most of the time it is a settings or firmware issue.
Things you can try.
Reboot router
Update router firmware if available
Temporarily disable router encryption to see if the phone connects without encryption
Try different encryptions
Check to see if DHCP is enabled
Change router modes
Check mac filtering

IPhone 4S won't charge, but shows 'plug' symbol

Hi, I'm an owner of a relatively new iPhone 4S and just out of the blue it's stopped charging last night.
I plugged the iPhone into my laptop last night- as per usual- and for some reason it showed only the 'plug' symbol and not the lightning bolt.
I didn't worry too much hoping it would charge anyway.
This morning the percentage has stayed at 30, occasionally dwindling down to 29 then back up to 31.
I've changed the USB, the output and tried plugging and unplugging numerous times and now am at a loss!
The phone is still recognised by my computer and syncs whenever plugged in.
I've done a hard reset soft reset and now all that's left is to restore to factory settings, but I doubt it'll do anything!
Please could someone help!

Update on the issue:
So after leaving my phone for a few hours I tried connecting to a USB again.
The apple logo starts up and whey- I have 100% battery!
All good? No. I can not use any apps, connect to wifi or basically USE the phone! As soon as I remove the phone from the power source, bang. Phone dies and won't turn on!
So, I try connecting it to my laptop hoping that the device will be recognised and something will happen. Unfortunately the apple logo keeps lighting up and fading and nothing happens.
I'm at a loss Apple!

IPhone 5 wifi, i know, but it is annoying.

I just purchased an iPhone 5. Now the problem is that the wifi is not working as it should. I upgraded from an 5th gen ipod touch that was able to locate and connect to every wifi network of my neighbourhood and college, but my new iphone cant even detect my house network unless i am less than a meter close to the router. when i walk away, i lose the connection. Sometimes it even says "unable to join wifi". and i pay the for the fastest internet connection in the market. Sigh.
Is there any way to fix this now that is running iOS7.02?

Hi everyone. My iPhone suddenly shut off after a phone call, and since then won't turn on. Unfortunately, I cannot restart it because a few weeks ago my lock button stopped working. Hopefully and most likely faulty battery. If you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

IPhone 4 will not charge but shows a plug to power source symbol, help!?

I purchased my new iPhone 4 (32GB) about a month ago just before Christmas (2010). About a night ago I was speaking on my iPhone when the battery died and the iPhone shut itself off. Now I have run down the battery before and understand the phone requires a good 10-15 minutes plugged in before it will switch back on.
Upon plugging iPhone in and leaving for quite some time all I was shown initially was the large battery symbol in the middle of the screen the lightening bolt symbol underneath. After a few seconds the lower lightening bolt symbol flashes between the bolt and a plug symbol pointing via an arrow to another lightening bolt symbol.
The battery refuses to take charge and so will not switch back on. And this symbol on appears when I plug the phone in. The charger is fine as the phone recognises it has been plugged in. I even tried my friends identical iPhone charger and the same symbols appeared. This also occurred upon plugging the phone into my MacBook Pro. iTunes even did not recognise the phone was plugged in.
I have not had any progress from these symbols since this happened two nights ago and would be very grateful for any advice anybody might have please. Unfortunately I live in Leeds, UK and my nearest Apple retailer is very far in Sheffield, and without a phone I cannot call Apple Technical Support.

It won't recognise it at all, but luckily I backed up very recently.
I've booked an appointment with an Apple store who promise a working iPhone within 10 minutes of your appointment, whether fixed or a brand new iPhone.

Make a Genius Appointment at the Apple Store, take your laptop in and get them to help you upgrade it.

Iphone dropping wifi then reconnects while on skype or viber but not netflix

while on call in skype or viber at home, my iphone 4 would drop the VOIP call, wifi icon immediately switches back to 3G then after 2 seconds switches back to wifi again(I never have to go connect again manually, it always comes back by itself). All happens without any intervention, and once the wifi icon comes back i can dial skype call again. This could happen 3 or 4 times on a 30 mins skype/viber call.
I have a 1st gen 3G iPad as well and I use it to watch movies on netflix, it has never dropped the wifi like that even after watching movies for more than an hour. Its just very strange. I've search around the internet and people who have iphone wifi drop problems always have to go reconnect to wifi manually or restart the phone to connect, which is not my case. I've also tried resetting the network settings on the iphone, didn't help.
I have 2 PCs, a Macbook pro, and a PS3, all using the same wifi connection, and like the ipad none of them have any problems with the wifi at all (not all connected a the same time, i usually have the MBP and the 2 iOS devices connected at all times). And for the iPhone, the wifi drop seems to isolate to Skype and Viber calls only. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? by the way, i have never tried VOIP call on other wifi networks other than my house, so I don't know if this is because something is wrong with my equipment at home. VOIP call on 3G network when wifi is not available doesn't have any problem.
I have a AT&T iphone4 on 4.3.2, wifi is through a Linksys router (g i think), I'm also using an AT&T microcell that 70% of the time doesn't even show up on my iphone. Thanks!

I have the same issue with my Iphone4, never had this with my Iphone 3gs. I have tried a different router (I have a d-link and a netgear) and no difference. I read on another forum that bluetooth might interfere. Yesterday I ran a test and after I turn bluetooth off I did not have any dropped Skype calls. before this my Skype call would drop or I would have a really bad connection about 8min or so into the call. I think this is because the iphone will start up bluetooth and it interferes with wifi. I am not 100% sure this cures the problem but it might.

After I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.4, I could select my WiFi-connection, but it would refuse to use it. The 3G or circle-icon showed instead of WiFi. In the settings, my home WiFi is slected, but it is not used. The 3G keeps showing instead. I tested it using YouTube and the browser and the speed is indeed 3G speed. I upgraded to 4.3.5: still the same problem.
I went to the settings, chose to ignore my WiFi network. I then re-scanned, chose my WiFi, just to refresh everything. It still didn't work. I restarted my phone, which also didn't solve the problem. Whenever I go to the settings, it shows the selection of my WiFi with the checkmark on the left as if I am actually using it, but it doesn't.

If you update to iOS 4.3.4 or iOS 4.3.5, you will need to power-off your WiFi-router, wait a couple of seconds and power it back on. Then, your WiFi-connection will work with the iPhone 4. If you don't do that, you will not be able to use WiFi on the iPhone 4.
Rebooting the iPhone or re-selecting the WiFi-router (even after deleting the connection) will not get the job done. Only by powering off/on your router. Now, it works again.

Are you testing in the same room as the TC?
Power cycle the TC.. does it show up now?
Has it ever showed up .. ie is this a problem that just started from an existing setup, or has never worked?
Is the TC new? If old how old?
If you continue to have issues.. setup the TC from iMac and preferably using ethernet.
Change the wireless names to SMB compatible ones, short no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Use WPA2 Personal security only.
Then set the wireless channels manually.. try 11, 6, 1 for 2.4ghz and try 36 or 40 at 5ghz.
Tell us how that goes.

IPhone 4 - WIFI connection is made but cannot use the network

I have connected my iPhone 4 to my wifi network but the wifi symbol doesn't show up and it stays in 3G mode. When I disable 3G mode, the wifi symbol shows up but it will not allow me to access the internet. What could be wrong?
At first, I thought it had to do with my router settings but my neighbor has a iPhone 3GS and was able to access my wifi and get online with no problem. I used the same WiFi settings on my phone that my neighbor did and still have problems. Am I doing something wrong?

Skydiver has it surrounded. You have not successfully negotiated with your router. Take a look at the settings when you think it is connected, specifically the ip address. If it does not begin 192.168 then you have not been granted access. Do you have security on? Turn it off, and try to establish a connection, then if that works, turn it back on.

Chose to forget the network, then re search and reconfigure. I am betting that is will ask you for a password, or a wireless key to make the connection. Mthe fact that both devices have the same symptom suggests the issue ismin how you are doing the router connection.

If your Wi-Fi router's DHCP is working, on iPhone select DHCP that's it.

its because you guys are using the same Apple ID on both devices , when you use the same it connects to iCloud/iMessages so when ever you get a text on any other iPhone with there iMessages on its going to show on both devices because its the same apple ID that you are using for your iMessages , you can fix that buy gating a new apple ID for one of you ,ore go to your system preferences then go in to your iMessages remove your email from there make shore its only your number on there ,but the best why is to get another Apple ID.
