IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?
Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge
Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.

MirandaMy was doing the same thing. But I figured out how to fix it. My computer was not recognizing the IPOD so I had to reset the drive letter. Click on Start, then go to the Control Panel, Click on Adminstration tools, Click on Computer Management, on the left hand side of your screen pick Disk Management from the box, it will take a few seconds then it will pull up a list of all your computer drives, highlight your Ipod, then right click and change drive letter or path, I changed it to "I" for ipod. My computer then recognized my Ipod. I opened up itunes and my sync worked then.

I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

Erased all content on 3G but now won't sync with iTunes. Error states, "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." I don't want phone service on this old 3G. Just want to use it as an iTouch. Any suggestions?

tried to install itune 10 but when i plug the iphone to the USB it states that it's not digitally signed drivers, installation failed and cant even do charging on the computer after that. i'm using window 7 please help!!

I am running iTunes 11.1.5.5, and my phone is using iOS 7.1
Windows 8 recognizes that the phone is connected, and even asks if I would like to download pictures, however iTunes will not.
So far, I have stopped and restarted AMDS, iTunes, my laptop, and the iphone. None of these have had any success. I've tried using a different cable, but the results were the same. The phone can download songs via its own iTunes app, but cannot sync with iTunes on the laptop.
How can I get my phone to start syncing with iTunes again? This problem occurs sparatically, sometimes syncing and sometimes ignoring the phone altogether, like it is now.Does your Mac meet the requirements for the latest version of iTunes?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If it does not resolve the issue, the device is permanently damaged and will require replacement. -

googled it, and it's so confusing @.@There is definitely a problem with iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0 syncing correctly. I've seen lots of workarounds on the forums here. Just search for it and see if you can come up with something that works.

I replaced my HD in my iMac, now my Apple TV (gen 1) won't sync with iTunes, it does not even show up in the device section of iTunes. I turned on sharing in iTunes now my Apple TV shows up in iTunes device section and when I click on it iTunes shows me a streaming sync page as if my Apple TV were a gen 2 unit. ITunes wants to stream everything to my Apple TV. I no longer can manually sync my iTunes with my Apple TV. In the Apple TV menu when I select computers Apple TV shows me my old hard drive with a lock next to it, when I click on it I get a warning that if I continue I will erase the entire Apple TV. Do I need to erase the AppleTV and start from an emty Apple TV HD?
you have to go to your atv's settings and remove the sync setup with the in the atvs eyes "old" computer
before you can add the "new" computer as a sync computer
an atv can only be set to sync with 1 and it don't know the "old" computer is not just off -
I have an iPod Touch 3rd gen and while it is recognized by my laptop with Win 8.1, it won't sync with iTunes. It worked fine while my laptop had Win 8 but after the update, it quit syncing. Strange though, I downloaded an app directly to my iPod and when I connected it to my laptop again (for recharging if nothing else), iTunes updated itself by including the new app. I also tried syncing wirelessly. Also unsuccessful. I'm about ready to change to an alternate to iTunes if I can't get this situation fixed. Anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

80 G Video iPod (1.3) is recognized but won't sync with iTunes 8
After updating to Mac OS 10.5.5 and iTunes 8 my 80 G Video iPod (Software version 1.3) won't sync with iTunes 8 at all. That is, it starts syncing and within seconds the dreaded spinning ball appears. After that, the only thing left is to force iTunes to quit.
My iPod is in fact recognized, and I can adjust the settings. But it simply won't sync. So far, I have had no problem syncing my iPhone 3G (2.1).
I've repaired permissions, cleared caches, etc. etc., the works. I've re-apllied the 10.5.5. Combo Updater, re-installed iTunes 8 and as a last resort even resetted my iPod, all to no avail.
Please advise. So far I've seen many similar complaints but, unfortunately, very few answers.

the NetherlandsOne last thing I can suggest as sort of the Hail Mary pass in case the issue has something to do with the USB ports being messed up...
Do a reset the FW & USB chip sets on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes the ports to do stuff like detect when a device wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac) and also remove the battery from your laptop. Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now reattach the battery pack, plug the power cord back in, & start up the Mac. Now check and see if your USB ports & iPod work together any better.

What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g? iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.
It's a 64G ipod touch and was fine till Apple told me to upgrade to ios 6. Now most of my apps crash, my music won't play and I just get a white screen when I hit Music.
When I try to sync to itunes it acts like it's going to sync and appears to recognize the ipod, but it's grayed out and has an update circle by it that spins for a while until itunes eventually freezes alltogether. What do you mean it won't let you? What exactly does it say? (Sorry to sound so exasperated but this is like the 6th post in a row where people have made vague statements which do little to help us find solutions without a game of 20 questions.) I'm going to guess and say you can only deauthorize a computer to which you have physical access or VPN login. The alternative is to deauthorize all which you can only do once a year.
