IPhone 5 Will not charge, not because of the chord

So today I saw that there was a water stain under the glass I'm guessing and I did what most people would've done and immediately put my phone in a bag of rice which was probably a bad idea, I took my phone out checking it from time to time and noticed I had a piece of rice stuck in the charging port, I did the stupidest thing and just jabbed at it with many things using the nail file on my pocket knife, or one of the logotype prods on a fork? I managed to break the rice apart but when I tried to charge my phone it would not work. (I'm under tmobile and I have no warranty what so ever.) I considered the water spot was the least of my worries since my phone was working just fine and there is no red/white light in the audio jack nor the charging port.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear if the charging issue you are having is occurring with a Mac or a Windows computer. Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.

My question was, when you connect the shuffle to USB, does the light come ON? From the way you answered, I'm not sure if you are answering that question, or saying that the light does not come ON when you move the power switch on the shuffle to the ON position.
Also, what happens when you connect the shuffle to your computer by itself, with nothing else connected to USB?
If you get no response (no light) from the shuffle when you connect it to USB by itself, trying both the original USB cable and a new one that is compatible with the 4th gen shuffle, try connecting something else to the USB port to confirm it is working properly. It would be best to test the USB port with something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive. If you can confirm the USB port works properly, it is likely that the cause for this problem is on the shuffle, such as a faulty headphones jack or bad logic board.
If the shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.

If the iPhone has Activation Lock - that is, it's asking for the previous owner's Apple ID and password to activate the device - then you will need that information, or you'll need to get the previous owner to remove the device from his/her iCloud account:

If the Reset didn't work, you'll need to do a Restore.
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finished, you will be asked if you wish the contents of iTunes to be copied to the iPad.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if fixed. If not, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple. If no coverage, clean again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol.
