Iphone 5 Will Not Restore

My Iphone 5 running IOS6.1 was working fine and then suddenly one morning I woke to find that I no longer had service. My carrier is ATT and It doesnt say just no service it says "searching" continuously. I attempted to restore the iphone from a computer running win 7 ultimate and a fresh copy of itunes 11. However after attempting to re-install the firmware it present me with a unknown error (-1).  Any ideas?

Here is Apple's answer to error -1: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1
As error 1 (or -1) indicates possible hardware failure, and your original symptom is also possible hardware failure, I would take the phone to an Apple store for diagnosis and likely replacement.
For your original problem, it's also possible you have a bad SIM or AT&T messed up your account provisioning, so calling them is a good place to start.
The other possible cause of error -1, which isn't mentioned in the above article, is a jailbroken phone. You would probably know if it was jailbroken.

  • My Iphone Will Not Restore, Please Help.

    Hello,
I fell asleep while facetiming, I woke up and found that my iphone will not turn on, which is odd, since I was charging it. I then took it off my charger and then put it back on. The Iphone 4 then showed the Apple Insignia for about 10 seconds, then became a dark screen, then back to the insignia. It did this repeated flashing for a good ten minutes. I then took it off the charger and the phone stopped flashing and it became totally dead. I tried pressing the home button, and the top button, but there was no effect. I then plugged in my Iphone to the computer and put it into recovery mode. I tried to restore it, but it continually keeps getting an error (21). I tried it on a different computer, will not restore, but got a different error (I believe it was the error (1604)). I tried restoring it multiple times, I updated my Itunes to the latest version, I made sure my connection was well. I tried taking my Iphone off of recovery mode, but it did not work.
I suspect that my problems are due to the fact that my Iphone will not stay on without being connected to a power source, and that is the reason for all the errors. I tried it on different USB ports and different computers. Please correct me if I am wrong, and please help me figure out what I should do next. I do not mind losing all my contacts, but I do mind if I have to spend money on a new phone, afterall, I barely even had this phone for a year.
So Please, I am begging. Please help me and tell me why doesn't my phone stay on without being connected? Is it because I fell asleep while facetiming and because neither of us hung up it over-heated and killed the battery? Is there an easy way to fix this since I am technologically-impaired? Is there any hope for me and my Iphone's future?
Any answer will be very much appreciated.
    Thank You.

It sounds to me like you either got defective parts or otherwise did not make the repair correctly. We cannot help  with self-repairs here, the iPhone officially not user servicable, but you can ask for advice in the forums on ifixit.com, a site which is dedicated to those attempting their own repairs.

  • Iphone will not restore - error

Hi, can anybody help me. My iphone was regulary losing network and telling me I needed to restore..so I did. Now the restore will not complete due to an error (1). I have tried this several times. Now my iphone is showing the çonnect to itunes' symbol and will not work at all.
I can't access support because the IEMI number is not recognised and I dont have any other product information because the phone is locked out.
    Please help

i also had this problem with my iPhone, i put it in the dock, iTunes came up on my MacBook, then the iPhone restarted a white screen came up for about 25 seconds then an Apple came up, then the connect to iTunes logo appeared, I was puzzled as to why this had happened since i'm extremely careful & certainly would not ever jailbreak it, because its against Apple's EULA. So i click restore expecting everything to work, then I get something like "iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone "iPhone" an unknown error accrued error 21. Then i put it in DUF mode, the screen went white again, looked like the firmware was installing then that failed & now its displaying error 2001, what shall I do

  • My iPhone will not restore or update in iTunes.

I have tried everything to restore my iPhone and update it but it still will not work, I get the same error "the iphone could not be restored. the device isn't eligible for the requested build." I have tried this with 2 seperate iPhone 4's and the I get the same error. I am sure its nothing to do with the handsets and something to do with iTunes but any help on the matter would be much appreciated.

  • Iphone will not restore Error 21

Here is a little background to this problem. I had an original iPhone that the Wi-Fi quit working on this past week. The phone was 2 1/2 months out of warranty and Apple would not, or could not do anything to help me other than sell me a new 3G. I just purchased the 3G tonight (16g black) and they activated it at the store for me. I made a phone call on the way home and all is good.
I get home and was going to check to make sure the Wi-Fi on the phone worked when all of the sudden the screen goes to the Apple logo and then starts freaking out. A lot of text flies across the screen saying something about a PANIC and Darwin Kernel. I read online all sorts of issues about this, before I finally come across how to start the phone in recovery mode. I finally get it started in recovery mode and hook it up to my PowerBook G4. I click RESTORE and it gives me this message:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error ocurred (21).
I literally had this phone for 1 hour! My original iPhone was a Christmas gift from my wife and it bothered me that it was no longer working, but then to have this happen immediately is sad. Can anyone help? Does anyone have any information about this error or how I can get my phone restored, or should I just take what appears to be a lemon back to the Apple Store?

i also had this problem with my iPhone, i put it in the dock, iTunes came up on my MacBook, then the iPhone restarted a white screen came up for about 25 seconds then an Apple came up, then the connect to iTunes logo appeared, I was puzzled as to why this had happened since i'm extremely careful & certainly would not ever jailbreak it, because its against Apple's EULA. • IPhone will not restore and is stuck on low battery screen?

I let my iPhone 3g's battery run flat a few days ago by accident, since then I have not been able to get the phone to recognize it is being charged. I plugged it into my mac and put it in DFU mode (i think), but my iTunes popped up with 'Unknown error, this iPhone can not be restored'. Now when ever I try to get it into DFU or restart it nothing happens except the red flashing no battery sign shows?
    Can someone please help?

You can exit recovery mode by doing following steps:
    1. Hold down home and power button for about 15 secons, this shuts off the phone.
    2. Then press the power button to turn the device on again.

  • IPhone will not restore from backup after upgrading to iOS4

    Hey guys,
I updated to iOS4 just fine on my iPhone 3G 16gb model. Unfortunately, what occurred after that is what's giving me a headache. Whenever I try to restore my iPhone from the backup I created, my laptop keeps freezing when it hits about 8-10% completion. It has no major problems with freezing or locking up, and I'm pretty sure that my iTunes is the problem. My phone will now no longer play my music, nor will it even display half of my custom ringtones(even though they appear on my ringtones list under my iPhone in iTunes), nor will it display any of the songs that I purchased through iTunes on my phone recently.
Most of the other features are working fine, though I have not tested everything. I still receive text messages, phone calls, and can access the internet, so it works how I absolutely need it to, but this is becoming an extremely frustrating ordeal. Please let me know if anyone has experienced something similar or knows of a solution.
    Thanks!

I can't find anything specific on that error code, but this Apple article may give you some ideas on how to fix it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
You may have to "Restore as New" if you cannot get it to restore from a backup. You will lose your game data but that is about the extent of the effect.

  • My iPhone will not restore via iTunes as it keeps cancelling and coming up with Error 9. Can you help me solve this?

Earlier today my iPhone4s shut down unexpectedly. It kept on showing the opening process (of the Apple logo coming and going) however it wasn't taking me to my home screen, instead was repeating this process. I pressed the home and lock button together for 30 seconds (from advice from the internet), which brought me to a screen of a picture of the USB cord and iTunes logo. I followed this instruction and plugged my iPhone into my laptop and opened iTunes. Immeadiatley, iTunes popped up to me that my iPhone was in recovery mode (I had never put my iPhone on recovery mode before so this was all new to me) and needed to go through with the restoring process. I clicked the Restore button to see this process go ahead. I tried so many times it lead to me to cry as my phone is only a few months old. All these times I tried the process was always cancelled by this message which showed it was an 'Unknown Error' and shown in brackets 'Error 9'. I tried this process so many times and I simply do not know what to do. Please can somebody give me advide/help and this is causing me stress as I have been working this out for hours. Thanks so much!

    Hi there Holly N,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

  • Iphone will not restore

    Hi,
I have tried to update to ios 6 today and wish I hadnt bothered. Now my itunes doesnt recognize my phone, wont restore even though I have uninstalled anti virus software
    Please help?

try disabling any anti virus/anti trojan/ firewall programs and see if it works...
i suspect it wont since you state that you can connect it and it starts then freezes at a certain point... normally the antivirus/antitrojan/firewall software would keep you from ever connecting but it's worth a try right?
