IPhone 5 will sometimes freeze and not recognize touch

Hi all,
Running into some issues with my new phone.  Every once in a while (maybe a bit more often than that), my phone won't sense me trying to select something on the screen.  It's like it freezes.  I can't swipe the screen either.  It'll allow me to use the home or sleep buttons and when I bring the screen back up, it works fine.  And then it'll do it again.
Has anybody else experienced this?  Is it a fixable thing or do I need a new phone?
Thank you

I have this same freezing problem, and it occurs in diverse apps as well as in the iPhone settings themselves.
I notice MANY complaints in the Apple Support Communities about this same freezing problem on iPhone 5s running IOS 6.01 and even the brand new 6.02. The standard response from the "experts" in the support community here -- to reboot or restore the iphone (or visit the apple store or call Apple Care) -- rather misses the point, in my opinion. So many iphone 5 users should not be having the same exact problem!
Instead of band-aid replies to reboot and restore or get Apple tech support involved, we need an actual lasting fix to this systemic problem, so the freezing stops happening for all of us.
The real question is this: What explains this  too-common freezing problem on iPhone 5 running IOS 6x?
I believe that Apple has screwed up, plain and simple, by putting out a device and OS that has not yet been properly vetted. Seems that Apple has been doing this a lot lately (e.g., OS7x Lion, the Apple Maps app), and I suspect this is an internal Apple culture issue -- a pushback against the perfectionism of the late Steve Jobs, perhaps. If so, that's too bad for us devoted Apple product users as well as Apple's investors, quite honestly. Apple Corporation itself needs to reboot and restore its "insanely great" standard of excellence!
Meanwhile, I am still looking for a reliable and permanent way to stop my brand new iPhone 5 from freezing constantly.

Crizzo is right, the best way to charge is with the included power block. That said, the USB cords are interchangable as far as an of us know. (just not power bricks, iPhone and iPod bricks put out 5W of power, the iPad wants 10W and will always say 'not charging' if plugged into less power than it requires even though it will charge, just very slowly)
    If you have tried to charge your iPad - with the iPad charger - with multiple cables and multiple computers and get no joy then it's time to head to the apple store and have them check it out. The 30 pin USB port can go bad - mine did - and it's a manufacturer's defect (unless there's any sort of obvious damage) and should be covered under the warranty;

  • IPhone 4s keeps freezing and not connecting to wifi. Keeps turning it off?

IPhone 4s keeps freezing and not connecting to wifi. Been like this for last 6 months.. Am real fed up with it.. Have reset, tried turning off but still not connecting.. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Does "have reset" mean that you restored the phone to factory settings? If not, you might want to give that a try. You will want to backup first so that you can restore your data from the backup after you restore the iOS software.
This will erase the phone and also download and install the most recent iOS version available for your device.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • I updated to ios 5.1.1 and added icloud services. the problem is now whenever i connect my iphone to my PC, itunes does not recognize my phone. i need it to but it just does not connect..

i updated to ios 5.1.1 and added icloud services. the problem is now whenever i connect my iphone to my PC, itunes does not recognize my phone. i need it to but it just does not connect..

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. Yu can make an appointment at the the Genius Bar of an Apple store or try:

  • Whenever i try to download OS X Mavericks, it will download to 995.6MB then will freeze and not download any further.

Whenever i try to download OS X Mavericks, it will download to 995.6MB then will freeze and not download any further. I have tried restarting the download a couple of times and still nothing happens. Restarted computer and still nothing. I don't know what is happening or if it is a problem my side or on the apple side of things. I am running quite a powerful computer so i dont think it is the computer that is having problems either.
Help would be highly greatful. Thanks!

    Hi casturrr,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of what you are describing. If your whole system is hanging or freezing completely, and it is occuring during the download and not during the install portion, you may find the troublehsooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

My iphone 3gs is totally dead and not charging if I will connect to power connector too
It shows only the battery charging sign when I will coonect to power connector and press menu button. But if I will put it for whole day or night too , It is not charging.
Please tell me what I can do.
    I am so frustate.
    Please help me.
    Thanks

Are you currently plugging it into a computer? If so, try plugging it into a USB power adapter. It's possible that you're trying to charge it from a low-power USB port, and that's not enough to sustain your phone and get it charging.
If you're still unable to get it to charge, schedule a visit with your local genius bar at apple.com/retail

Apple won't replace an iPhone under warranty if the iPhone has been opened/tinkered with by you or by a 3rd party, but they may under Apple's out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price.
There is only one way to find out for certain.

Are there any other wireless devices that might cause interference?
Also are there any nearby Wi-Fi networks that might have the same name as yours? It amazing how many Linksys Wi-Fi networks are out there.

  • Itunes 10 update on windows 7 makes it freeze and not respond

Ever since I updated my itunes to the newest version my itunes will freeze and not respond everytime I open it.

    Many thanks.
That's consistent with an application (other than QuickTime itself) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    Hi evan191,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some steps you can try if your messages aren't sending as iMessages:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
If you still can't send or receive iMessages
Ensure that iMessage is turned on in Settings > Messages.
To send and receive iMessages, your device must have a valid cellular or Wi-Fi data connection.
    iPhone: Troubleshooting Cellular data
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
iMessage registration validates your Apple ID for use with iMessage. If you are unable to activate iMessage, follow this article.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will be resent using SMS or MMS, depending on the content. You can turn this behavior on or off in Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
Verify that the Apple ID or phone number is listed in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

  • My iphone 4 shut itself down and not turn on back

My iphone 4 shut itself down and not turn on back

I have been having the same trouble with my iPhone 4 freezing up more and more often and the only way to bring it back to life was to do a reset. Finally made an appointment at my local Genius Bar and, even though they couldn't reproduce the fault at the time (of course!), they swapped it out for a brand new phone which has been fine since.
Excellent customer service - just reminded me why I switched to Apple in the first place
Reading other threads, it sounds like this is more of a hardware problem with the home button not being able to 'wake' the phone up when its locked.
