IPhone 5 won't backup to computer nor sync to Bluetooth:

I have recently encountered two simultaneous problems with my iPhone 5:
1) When I plug my phone into my computer, launch iTunes and attempt to back-up to my computer, the back-up appears to be working and then an error message pops-up that reads: Cannot backup to computer because an error occurred.  I haven't had any issue with performing this back-up until recently.
2) When I try to connect my phone to my car's Bluetooth, my phone finds the Bluetooth, I enter the code and connect the devices and an error message pops-up that reads that my phone cannot connect to the car's Bluetooth.  Other phones can connect to the car's Bluetooth and I haven't had any issue with performing this connection until recently.
I read a thread that explained that others have encountered the exact same two problems, at the same time, as I explained above.  Perhaps there is a common issue?
Additionally, I want to note that I did a reset of my phone's settings (as well as a restart of both my phone and computer), and my software on both my phone and computer (iTunes) is up-to-date.  Unfortunately, the problems still persist ....

Not sure if anyone fixed this.....but i had the same issue...
I resolved this by disabling the "Find my phone" in the Icloud setting on the phone. When I 1st got the phone I was backing it up to the Icloud then changed to the local computer...It's as if it doesn’t unlink from the cloud and still thinks you want to backup it up there. Disabling the find my phone seems to cut it from the Icloud and then the backup worked fine..
You can then re-enable once done and it continued to work fine from then on.
worth a shot anyway, it worked for me.
Dan.

  • IPhone 3g won't connect to computer or iTunes

I tried connecting my iPhone to my computer today but neither the computer nor the phone show any sign of connection. Phone is 3.1.2. Comp is running windows xp media center, iTunes 9.0.3 (or something like that). I've tried doing a full uninstall and reinstall of the iTunes program package (QuickTime, mobile device support, etc) but to no avail. The phone does charge when connected to the wall charger with the same cable, so it's not the cable. Any ideas?

Nevermind. Found the problem. The cable I was using was a third party cable that I got to replace the cable for my old iPod. Apparently, this cable worked to charge the iPhone, but not to transfer data. I just found the cable that came with my iPhone and tried that, problem solved.

  • HELP PLEASE: DVD Movie Won't Play on Computer nor Transfer

Hi! I burned a VHS taped program to a DVD on a Sony DVD burner and I made sure that I finalized the DVD. When I checked it while it was still in the player it did play on the TV very well but the DVD will not play on the computer nor will any of the programs recognize it.
When I put the DVD in the Mac Mini a folder appears on the desk top that says: SONATA_VOLUME and has a red circle with a white line in the center of it.
When I click on the folder and it opens there is nothing showing inside of it. QT Pro, iDVD, iMovie nor any other app will play it nor Handbrake, MacTheRipper will recognize it.
I'd like to know what I did wrong and how to fix it so that I can transfer & convert this file for the iPod.
I got the disks from compusa on sale so they are no name brands. Is the problem the DVD burner or the disks?

First, thank you for taking the time to respond.
This is the recorder I have: Sony DVD Recorder & VHS Combo PlayerRDR-VX515:

The specs stated that it does record MPEG video.
The Mac mini is a super drive w/ + & - capability. I guess I'll have to buy another recorder to get this to work.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created a sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, download the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (and add apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps when the phone is plugged in for the first time will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be any less painful options to setup a new device from an iCloud backup of an old device. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.
    Larry
Edit: Going to repost this in iPhone discussion. You may discard this posting here. I unfortunately couldn't delete the post.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • IPhone 4 won't load music library on Sync

Hello. I've been having this problem for over a month now. My iphone 4 won't sync any of my music from my itunes library. I have tried a HUGE number of things. It does not seem to be related to itunes match issues.
I am trying to sync with my phone connected via USB. I cannot seem to get the wifi connection between my computer and device.
I am at a loss, and extremely angered that I cannot listen to my music. What should I try next? Am I missing something? What do I try next?

I'm delighted to hear you've made progress
I've been thinking and playing a bit too.  It turns out I sync all my music (successfully), but if I were to only sync a part, here's what my music sync page would look like:
The big difference I see is I don't have collections - and never did.  Anyway, I'm wondering if the issue is somewhere in your computer's music library having gotten confused somewhere along the line.  I suspect you've had your iTunes setup for a long time (many years).  It would be drastic, but I'm wondering if you would consider some iTunes library reorganization processes.  Of course, I understand if you don't want to go this way.
One option is to delete the iTunes database file, but that would delete all your playlists, song ratings, etc.  It would then be rebuilt from scratch.  That's very drastic, but here's a writeup about it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
Another option is to do something like go to iTunes' Preferences > Advanced and check "Keep iTunes Media FIle Organized."  Or from iTunes' Files menu item, you could choose Library > Organize Library and then one of the two following choices (probaby "Reorganize Files ...).
Finally one thing you do that I've never seen before is in your summary options area, you are converting higher bit rates to 256K AAC.  I've never seen that, and hope converting MP3 to AAC doesn't cause you problems.  This little snip from iTunes' help just aroused my suspicion a bit about this action:
Anyway, glad you're headed down the path of progress!

  • Iphone won't show on computer nor itunes.

Hey everyone, I've looked around for threads on this for a few days now but either nothing was worked or it was very outdated and still didn't work.
To the point, my cousin bought a new iphone 3g and as a gift he gave me his iphone 2g. It worked fine but had all of his information as he didn't do anything to it but give it to me. I assume it has the newest firmware and what not as he was using it about a week ago. I plugged it into my computer but it didn't show on my computer or itunes. I installed the new itunes and while doing so tried to restore (Sleep + Home) and now it's stuck in the USB wire pointing at the Itunes symbol.
So now it won't turn on past that last notice and still won't show up on my computer and itunes. I've tried restarting, reinstalling, restoring, everything that's pretty common at least and still nothing. The phone doesn't show up in the Device Manager either and I've tried 2 different computers and 2 different wires. I'm getting sad at this point as i want to use it! No jailbreak or unlock that I know of also if that matters. If i left anything out please let me know.
    Someone please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    nArCkY

i've had the same problem as narcky: screen shows usb cord with arrow pointing to itunes symbol. i've deleted and re-installed the latest version of itunes, no luck. this happened while i was trying to download the latest version of software for the iphone. i've even tried searching for the iphone in the list of usb drivers and all i get is the recovery iboot, which i dont even know what that means.also tried pressing home button and power button at same time, screen still shows cord with itunes symbol. i've tried everything, nothing seems to work. HELP?

  • My iPhone 5 won't backup on iCloud

I currently use an iPhone 5 but I've recently purchased an iPhone 6. I've been attempting to set up the iPhone 6, but my first issue was that the software on the 6 wasn't up to date, so I had to set up the phone as 'New' before I could proceed. Having done that, I then attempted to restore a backup on my new phone, from my old one. However, the backup is quite outdated and doesn't include my latest documents and photos. I then attempted to do this via my PC, but with no results, oddly. Literally nothing was restored unto my new phone. Unfortunately, ever since updating to iOS 8, I've been unable to backup my phone on iCloud. I constantly get unreasonable estimates of time the process will take, before I get an error message notifying me that the backup could not complete, even though there clearly is adequate storage space on my iCloud account. I have however, been able to backup my phone to my PC, but none of my photos or apps actually backed up. I've read a ton of threads and posts on this site and other forums, but in practice, all have my attempts have been to no avail. There seems to be no real solution to my problem and I've tried everything that has been suggested by Apple and others. Everything on my phones seems to be in order, as far as I'm aware. Before the update, my phone used to backup automatically, when connected to my wi-fi and the cable, with no problem whatsoever. I'm not confidently suggesting that the cause or issue is the new iOS version, but the problem did start closely after. I would utterly appreciate it if anyone could provide a viable and effective solution, please. I'm really desperate. I really don't want to rely on my old backup or have to manually move everything from one device to the next. Please help!

An inability to back up to iCloud may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
It may also be caused by network connectivity issues with the iCloud server.  Solutions to that include power-cycling your wireless router (unplugging it for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), resetting network settings on your phone (in Settings>General>Reset), updating the firmware on your router, and changing the router's DNS settings to use Google's public DNS (see https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using) or set it in your iOS wifi settings and restart the device so the take effect (see http://osxdaily.com/2014/08/08/change-dns-settings-ios/).
I'm not sure why you're having problems backing it up to your computer using iTunes.  The backup should include your app data and camera roll photos.  Other photos, such as photo stream photos, would need to be saved to the camera roll prior to backing up in order to be included.  The apps themselves are saved to your iTunes library and are synced to your phone when you restore the backup.  To back up your phone and transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library, connect the phone to your computer, launch iTunes, then go to File>Devices>Back Up, and agree to back up apps and transfer purchases if prompted (or force it by going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases).

  • Iphone 6 won't backup to icloud

My husband and I upgraded from iphone 4s to iphone 6. We used to share the same apple id, but ran into an issue where a contact would call him but it would appear on my phone was well. It was suggested to alleviate that issue that we should create a new icloud account. We use our yahoo email as our itunes/main apple id. I created a new icloud account for my iphone, but left the yahoo email as the itunes id. I'm still not able to backup my iphone to icloud. It won't do it automatically and I'm not able to do it manually. There is plenty of space. I have the free 5gb plan and only 2gb to backup. I've read through the communities and internet and itunes/icloud/iphone help, but haven't been successful. My husband's iphone doesn't have any problems backing up. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!

  • IPhone 5 won't connect to computer

Whenever I try to connect my iPhone 5 to my desktop, nothing shows up. I've looked in device manager, but its not there. I've looked in my computer and its not there. It is not even charging. But whenever I try to connect my iPad, it works fine. It happened ever since 6.1 update. I can't sync my music over and I can retrieve my photos from my iPhone 5. I have tried reinstalling itunes twice and that didn't work as well.
I have tried to use another iPhone 5 to try it out but it won't work as well. Can someone help me out here?

I have tried everything that you suggested.
I went all the way through this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 (I have Windows, not a Mac). I got to this point:
When I get to step 8, it says that there is an error and that one of the installers could not install. Is this a problem with my computer that I need to like reformat or something?

  • IPhone 4 Won't connect to computer

My iPhone 4 (ATT) running 4.3.2 has been working fine, it charges with the wall charger and cable just fine, then when I take the charger cable and bring it to my computer to update all my apps, I plug it into a USB (direct to computer, not via hub) and the iPhone doesn't show up on the computer, not even just to access my photos it doesn't show up at all.
I've tried restarting my computer twice, restarting the phone twice, using different USB ports but nothing seems to work, my iPhone won't connect to a computer for some reason...
    Any suggestions?

I too am experiencing this issue and have had no luck. I've cycled off both PC (windows7) and iPhone, disabling firewalls, and rebooting with device connected. I get a glimmer of hope with rebooting PC with iPhone connected because iPhone starts drawing power upon startup but iPhone still doesn't appear in device manager. If at that point iPhone is disconnected and reconnected it will not even draw power.
PLEASE HELP!!! Dying to upgrade from iOS 4.3.2 to 5!

  • IPhone 4S won't backup to iCloud

I have seen others in the community with this same issue and tried all the possible fixes.  I am at the point where I am ready to reset my phone to factory defaults.  Why won't this backup?  It hasn't backed up since 10/2/12, which was right after I put iOS 6 on my iPhone.  Is there anything I can do?  I don't want to completely reset my phone and still have the same issues.  I also noticed my photo stream has quit working since this happened too.

If you get the message "Backup not successful",  I had the same problem.
My solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap my device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup.  If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup.  Keep doing that until the backup works.  Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail.  For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.
This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.
If the device won't back up even when all the apps are turned off, then there's a more serious problem going on.
