IPhone 5 won't connect to new computer

I recently bought a MacBook Air, thinking that it would connect to my existing iPhone 5 easily, but when i connect it to iTunes, only the songs I have purchased (not downloaded) come up. Also, it says if I want to sync the phone with the computer, it will delete all of the current apps and contacts on my phone. I never had trouble with my PC, so anyone know how to fix this?

Move your iTunes library from your previous computer to your current computer, then all your stuff will be there.

  • My iPhone won't connect with my computer or charge. How can I fix this?

My iPhone won't connect with my computer. It also will not charge. I changed the white charging cord, but I have the same problem. I connected other devices to the USB and they work. It's strictly the iPhone.
    How can I correct this?

I forgot to mention, the iPhone does charge via wall plug.

  • IPhone won't sync to new computer w/library from old computer HELP!

Got an iPhone4 for Christmas... already had many, many Gs of music on my PC.  Installed iTunes, purchased some music from iTunes, Amazon, sync'd some to my iPhone.  Backed up *all* my music onto flash drive(s). (PC was +10yrs old).  PC dies.  Get new-to-me computer replacement from my husband's office (some ghosts from previous user still exist). Do my best to locate all previous owners music and delete.  Load all my music from my flash drive onto new-to-me PC.  iTunes can't 'see' my music.  Figure out where library from previous PC owner is, re-direct iTunes from that library to my data.  Go onto iTunes and authorize new-to-me computer using same userid so now all library history info related to that userid should now be linked w/this newer-to-me PC, right?  Purchase more music from iTunes.  Try to sync iPhone to my iTunes account using new-to-me computer, and it wants to erase my iPod and associate it with "this iTunes library."  Crap.  I just want to put 3 newest songs onto my iPhone, which I purchased, fair & square.
1)How do I 'de-authorize' my old PC?  It is no longer alive or bootable.
2)How can I convince iTunes that the library on this newer-to-me PC is the library from my old PC, plus more added while on this newer-to-me PC and the library on my iPhone are really one-and-the-same library all belonging to me fair and square?
3)Is there a way to transfer songs onto my iPhone without iTunes running an inventory on my iPhone to try to automatically add or delete songs that are checked or unchecked?  I don't want my entire library on my iPhone.
4)Will I have to remember to ensure every song that I want to stay on my iPhone are always checked in iTunes before syncing my iPhone to my iTunes, even when I only want to make a couple of changes? (if yes, I'll just skip that step and insert the pins in my eyes now.)
Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE my iPhone, I just really don't love a lot of the built-in 'features' of iTunes as I currently understand things.  I'd be a lot happier if iTunes were a dummer program and totally manual, in the way the older vs of MSWindows Media Player is.  (I cannot beleive I just had to admit that I like a Windows SW product over an Apple one! Deffinitely a sign of the appololypse - hope you're a 'prepper.')
Please help me.  I am so weary of the days and hours I've spent trying to find/read the answers to my questions on my own.  Many thanks.

    Hey Roaming Gnome,
hope you're having a good day!  Thanks so much for the info... although I don't really like the reality of the answers...  The answers were depressing (through no fault of your own-you were just passing on the info I asked for-I get that part and appreciate your help) so I went away to lick my wounds and gain the strength to tackle this project.  So, here's the deal, I did back up all the songs that were on my old PC, both the "My Music" folder and the "iTunes" folder within.  All on flash drive.  That computer died, cannot be resuscitated, drive HD erased/shredded, PC now in pieces... fine, I have my music, what do I care, right? (yeah, I know, wrong)  I loaded all my music onto my new-ish/replacement PC.  Not yet syncing my iPhone... Then, from my new-ish PC, I purchased some music and a few TV shows from iTunes and some music from Amazon (I had gift cards).  Then I purchased more music from the iTunes store using my phone.  Also, before my old PC died, I had downloaded (I thought), an app and some free ringtones using my iPhone.  However, I eventually discovered that they aren't *really* installed/downloaded (only the free app I got off the iTunes store is downloaded/installed). Found this out when I went to try to use a ringtone, couldn't locate them on my phone, and weren't showing up on my PC in my iTunes library... I finally found something on the app that said something about I have to sync my phone to my iTunes library, in some different way... (?)  then download them from my iTunes library back to my phone. (huh?) This didn't make sense to me, so I never did it, because I just didn't have the time to figure it out, then execute it.... at that time.
I also never took the time to set up the free part of my iCloud account because, again I didn't have time to try to figure it out, and didn't think I'd really have to have it I had all my music on my flash drive (wrong again).
    1) So, how can I get my purchases (the ones that exist only on my iPhone, including rights to the free ring-tones) into my iTunes library, and or iCloud, without losing them all?
Once I do this, I can back everything up, then sync my iPhone to my only iTunes library, which I realize will wipe my phone clean, then re-copy everything back onto my iPhone. (I can't wait to start this process... do you think it will be done before Christmas?)
2)Also, will syncing my iPhone to what it thinks is a 'new' library, will it delete anything on my computer that wasn't in the library last time I sync'd my phone to my library?  I really don't want to pay for the TV shows again, or spend the stupid hours I spent/lost searching through and collecting the ringtones that I wanted?  I burned the hours thinking, "if I just spend the time now, I'll never have to do this again."
3)On a slightly separate issue, the iCloud listing on my iPhone in the 'Settings' menu is light gray, and does not respond when I tap on it or hold my finger on it.  Ideas?
    4) In the future, if I get a new computer to replace the one I'm using, what are the steps I should take to keep me from losing music I own, existing in my iTunes library, on my PC and/or iPhone, And, cause me the least amount of heartburn possible when migrating my music world over to a replacement PC?  I don't expect this will be my last PC in life - or I'd like to think I'll outlive this PC. Can I avoid all problems by just naming the new computer the same thing as the last one?  Or does the iPhone/iTunes SW know more than just the name of the computer?  Sorry this is so long.  It would be shorter if iPhone/iTunes SW were dumb... we'd all be enjoying chips & margaritas by now. ;^}

  • My iphone won't connect to itunes or my computer!

For some reason when I updated to the new itunes my iphone 4 stopped connecting to my computer and itunes. I have tried restarting my computer and my iphone but nothing is working. I have tried plugging in different plugs thinking something with the cord but nothing! But when I try to connect my iphone my computer makes the sound as if it is connected but my phone is not in my computer and my iphone shows its not connected

Couple of quick questions on what does happen with your computer when you plug the phone in.
First - Does the computer show an auto play window when you plug the deivce in?  Basically asking to import pictures.
Second - Does the device charge on the computer?
    Third - Laptop or desktop?
Fourth - Is the phone plugged into the closest USB port to the power supply on the computer?  These seem to be standard USB 2.0 ports (unless you have a really old or a really new computer).
Fifth - Did you uninstall all 6 pieces of iTunes or just the iTunes progam it's self?

  • IPhone won't connect to computer! Error!

So my dad wanted his iPhone updated to 2.0 yesterday, so he asked me to do it on my computer. His laptop wasn't around, so I plugged it into my computer, updated it and gave it back.
Then today he came to me, saying his phone won't connect to HIS computer anymore.
I've tried plugging it in and all that happens is a box that says "camera now connected... open with...." but none of them are iTunes, and it won't connect the phone.
Please help, any respond would be greatly appreciated!

In all honesty, he leaves for a business trip in about an hour and needs his phone to connect.
Can anyone help? Sorry for such short notice

    Deauthorize all.
    Then authorize the active computers.

  • HT1386 i have gone through several pc units over time and when i try to sync up my iphone and ipad to my new computer is says it can not sync because i have the devices registered on too many computers. How do i fix that?

I have had several computers in recent years and when i try to sync my iphone and ipad to my new computer, it says it cant because the devices are registered on too many computers. I only need them synced up to two computers - how do i fix this?

In iTunes, under the "Store" menu, you can select "Deauthorize this computer". That will remove that computer from your iTunes account and free up a spot for the new computer.
If you have already sold or wiped your previous computers, you can log into your iTunes account from the Store menu in iTunes by selecting "View My Account xxxx@xxxx". Once you are logged in, about 1/4 the way down the page it will tell you that you have "xx computers are authorized......". Beside that you have the option to deauthorize all of the connected devices. That is the only option, you will have to deauthorize all and then set up the ones you want to use.
I think 10 is the maximum number of devices that can sync to one iTunes account.

  • I have a new computer and want to sync my Iphone and Ipad2 to the new computer, is there an easy way to do this?

I have a new computer and want to sync my Iphone and Ipad2 to the new computer (PC) instead of the old one, is there an easy way to do this?

Extract from one of our senior participant.
    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • Iphone won't connect to windows 7 hotspot

    Hello,
My iphone won't connect to a windows 7 hotspot (which I created in my laptop). I do find it in the iphone's WiFi menu, but it appears under devices rather than as usual WiFi coneection. When I try to connet, the following message appears: "JorgeHOTSPOT has no connection to the internet. are you sure you want to use this newwork?"
Can anyone help me to solve this.
    Cheers,
    Jorge.

    One day later: My solution
I went to the Apple Store with a Genius onliine appointment a few hours after posting this. They couldn't connect it either. One of the terminals had CORRODED. In 4 months. They replaced the phone. I think I used it in the rain once.
    My comment:
I had a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I long ago in the stone age. This was one of the first PC's and competed with the Apple model I. It connected to external floppy drives with uncoated steel terminals on the connectors.  It cost $2200 in 1977 dollars, now at least $6500, because you could buy a VW for $4000 at the time. It was necessary to go over the terminals with a pencil eraser every few months to get the corrosion off and polish them up. At least they were external and you could do this in a couple of minutes. My point is Radio Shack made a computer that cost half as much as a car unreliable because they saved pennies using cheap metal connectors. Ditto with the iPhone. Apple, what are you thinking? At least please make a terminal-polishing kit, because I can't get a pencil eraser in that tiny slot to clean them myself next time.
