IPhone 5 won't switch on

iPhone 5 won't switch on

Try resetting it:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
Make sure its charged...plug into a wall outlet for at least 30 minutes first.

  • My iphone won't switch on. I've tried holding the power and home button more than 30 seconds up to a few minutes but it didn't switch on and went straight to recovery mode. It died of a low battery and i already fully charged it i checked with my itunes.

i really need help here. I have only used my iphone for a month. my iphone won't switch on. it died of a low battery and i've already fully charged it and usually before it even fully charged, it will turn back on right but in my case nothing happened. i've tried holding the power and home button for 30 seconds and up to 2-3 minutes but no logo appear. it went straight to recovery mode. there's nothing wrong with my cable, i checked with itunes and  this happened once a week ago but it did switch back on after i tried a few times but now it just won't switch on. i also have problems with my screen as there's some noises to the screen (i hope you get me) and when i turned the camera on, it was as if the whole screen is shaking. i'm currently studying in the middle east and there's no apple store here so i cannot use my warranty. i will only be back home in summer. please help me what should i do to at least switch my iphone on first.

I did a little bit of experimenting. I have an iPad original versions myself. I took it out of the box knowing that I haven used it in months and I expected the battery to be dead and sure enough the battery was as dead as I imagined it would be. For the first 30 minutes I experienced exactly what you are experiencing, but then the iPad suddenly powered up on its own (like it does when plugged into the charger) and I am using it now to type this response to you.
My point is that I am starting tothink that your battery has suddenly died on you for some reason or you have a hardware problem now. I would still try leaving the iPad charge for a while longer - maybe even overnight - and then try again in the morning. Unplug the iPad and try resetting with the home and sleep buttons. Try plugging the iPad in again. Unplug it, try restarting again. Let it charge for a while again.
After trying something like that, if it still will not start up, then I think it's time for a trip to an Apple Store and see what the Apple Techs think.

    Try a reset.

  • Iphone won't switch back on - can anyone help?

Hi, have an iphone 3G - was working fine, but forze earlier today and I ended up switching it off and now it won't switch back on again.  I've tried home and power buttons - the silver apple logo comes up, then nothing, goes to blank screen again Have also tried to get onto iTunes to see if device is found - no luck.  It's not being found when I plug in to charge - screen just blank.
    can anybody help?

An iPhone has to have the battery charged to some degree for a Reset to work. If after charging the iPhone a bit, try the Reset. If the Reset does not work, then you could try the mentioned Recovery Mode Restore. But even for a Restore to work, an iPhone needs to have the battery charged some first. If the Recovery Mode Restore does not work you could try a DFU Mode Restore.

  • My iphone won't switch on

last night my iphone 4S switched off and won't switch back on, the battery wasn't empty...

Reset the phone as explained by Steyn139: Hold HOME and POWER buttons at once for at least 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo on screen. Then release the buttons and let the phone reset by itself.
Sometimes, you may not get the Apple logo in the screen, however the reboot is happening. Put your phone into DFU mode (as explained above ) while connected to your computer with iTunes opened and keep the HOME button pressed until you are asked by iTunes if you wish to RESTORE the iPhone. Say yes and wait.
Your iPhone should get back to life however IF YOU PRESS YES you will loose all the data on your phone. If you have had a recent back up done, then you should be fine. Simply synchronize and you are on your way.
If iTunes says that couldn't restore your phone, take it to your nearest Apple Center to get it replaced. Being a 4S it should be under the 1 year guarantee still.
    Good luck.

  • IPhone won't switch on - will Apple replace it?

My iPhone 3G won't switch on. I left it in its dock next to my bed on Tuesday night and woke up late Wednesday morning because the alarm hadn't gone off. My iPhone was dead. Not even the 'connect me to a power source' screen.
Tried holding the home button and lock button together, tried connecting to iTunes, tried DFU mode. Nothing - it's totally dead.
I went to the Genius Bar on Tuesday but their appointments were fully booked until Friday. The lady looked down the headphone jack and told me to come back Friday. I googled what she was up to and looked in there myself with a torch - no pink so it's not water damaged.
My question really is will they replace it? I got my 3G on launch day as an upgrade from the original, but that had to be replaced because the screen died. They swapped it in store no problem. I can't remember but I think it was less than 12 months ago.
Is the phone only covered by warranty for 12 months; and if so; since I have a replacement, does the warranty re-start from the day I got the replacement?
I have insurance so could always claim on that - but any advice would be appreciated. I will let you know how I get on tomorrow.

    Thanks for your rapid responses.
As I said, I have insurance and it'll only cost me the £25 excess for a new phone, but I am a bit annoyed since this is the second iPhone I've had with a fault. I absolutely love my iPhone and I've looked after all 3 of them well; I'm as sure as I can be that this isn't my fault. It doesn't seem fair that the warranty doesn't re-start for this replacement phone, so this is what I'll be saying to Apple tomorrow. Regardless of the warranty, there's also the Sale of Goods Act which states that if a fault occurs after 6 months and within 6 years of purchase, the onus is on me to prove that the product was faulty when I purchased it and if it was, the manufacturer must replace it.
It's really a matter of principle for me as £25 on the insurance isn't a lot of money, but since I've recently bought a MBP and own numerous Apple products I'm up for a bit of an argument in store, so we'll see what they say.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • HT201263 Iphone won't switch on!

It was freezing earlier so i re-booted it. All i get is the apple sign & the passcode page. But it freezes on that page and won't let me enter the code. A few mins later it switches itself off - back on again and the same happens...any advice as to how to get it to not freeze - or is this one for an apple store to look at?
I've been quite lazy in backing up - and haven't for a few months so i'm guessing i will lose some things. But if there's an obvious solution that i am missing i'd love to hear it!

If no change after powering the iPhone off and on and/or after a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release, more than likey there is a hardware problem.
You can try placing the iPhone into recovery mode and if successful, this will require restoring the iPhone with iTunes. You won't be able to update the iPhone's backup when doing so, nor sync the iPhone with iTunes before doing so.

  • Hello. iphone won't switch on or back up - help!

Hello. I have an iPhone 4S. For a little while it was shorting out - suddenly going back to main screen in the middle of an email or text, so I lost what I was typing and had to start again. Now it won't turn on. I get the apple logo against a black background, then the small cycling white lines that usually say it's running out of battery - even when it's plugged into a power source. It just can't get past that.
However, when it's plugged into my computer, dropbox, which is one of my applications, informs me that all photos are downloaded, so I know that it's working and communicating with my computer on some level and isn't completely dead.
When I go to itunes and try to restore backup it won't because it's locked with a passcode - but I can't use the passcode because all I've got is a black screen with white lines going round in the centre of it.
When I try to sync it says iPhone cannot be synced because not enough free space available.
I would rather not restore to factory settings and los everything if at all possible.
I am downloading 7.0.4 but to be honest would rather not because of reported bugs and because I like Google maps ... will do if I have to though.
    Any help very much appreciated!
    thanks

You can try to force restart it by pressing the HOME button and power button until the device turns black and the Apple logo reappears then release the buttons.  If it will not restart and is stuck on a blank screen or Apple logo or will not let you enter the passcode, then try connecting to the computer with itunes running and try the same steps described.  If that still does not work, then I hope you have a backup because you will need to restore your phone.

  • Tried Everything and IPhone Won't Switch On...

My step daughters IPhone 4 will not switch on no matter what we try. She says she used it until the battery died and then left it for a while. Then when she came to charge it again it is lifeless.
We have tried leaving it to charge for a few hours, then we carefully cleaned the charging port at the bottom of the phone because it was filthy. Next we tried charging it with the USB cable. We also tried the reset with the home and sleep button but that doesn't do anything either.
Itunes doesn't recognise there is a phone connected at all and we are at a complete loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger for 10 minutes it may turn ON itself. If not on, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger.

  • Iphone won't switch on properly?

While updating the new version of bloomberg from the itunes store on my iphone, the iphone switched off, when i switch it back on it will not go past the Apple sign even after resetting the iphone? help!!
I'm using the iphone 3g v2.0. Itunes doesn't find the phone though the computer does but only shows the photo's stored on the phone and connection between the iPhone and computer starts and fails

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start. If nothing, connect to wall charger for 10 minutes, it may come on itself. If still nothing, keep on charger and Reset, it may take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger. If still nothing battery may be completely dead and need replacement or something worse.

  • ICal quit syncing on iPhone, won't switch back 'on'

My iCal calendars quit syncing with my iPhone.
When I go to iCloud Settings on the iPhone, the calendar sync switch is turned off. I turn it back on and then the Settings close instantly almost like the app is crashing. I return to the Settings and the switch for syncing calendars is still off. All the other iCloud functions seem to be working fine.
I've tried restarting the iPhone, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have a possible solution?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure it will help, but you could try force-closing the Calendar app: from the home screen, double-tap the home button, locate Calendar in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, tap the home button again.  Then for good measure restart your phone again.

  • Iphone won't switch on :s,

Hi - like everyone else I'm trying to update to iOS5 - i've had a few issues so I've read on the posts here that a soft reset to the iPhone may solve the issue.
I've done this but now my phone is off - and wont come back on... help please

I suspect that you are supposed to turn off "Find My iPhone" not "Find My Friends".
You can do this on a browser on any computer.

Alas, this did not help me. I don't have an Orientation Button or any Icon that would help in this endeavor. At the bottom of my Iphone 4s, there are 3 icons: Phone, Mail and Safari. That's it. I can't get those icons to move.
What is it you're trying to do?  If you're looking for orientation lock in iOS 7, swipe up from the bottom of your phone to access control center.  Orientation lock is the top right icon.
