No, it had been sitting not in use and charging for maybe an hour. I turned it off till it cooled down.

This happens if I upload too many HD photos at once. You are overworking the processor. Just leave your phone off and put it on top of a plastic bag of ice to cool it down. To keep this from happening you have to remove apps from the multitasker by double tapping the home button when the phone is on the home screen or in an app, then hold down on an app, then just press the little red minus signs. This won't delte the app, it just quits them (for example: quitting Skype will not allow you to recieve calls, quitting Facebook will stop you from receiving messages until you reopen the app, quitting the Phone app will not stop you from getting calls or texts though). This will save a great deal of battery.

I got a iphone 5 on contract with 3 in august /september time my phones hardly been used its used rarely by my self and just gets hot on the sides and back ive reset my phone to see if any difference and there is none

I would contact applecare about this issue. a hot phone is not normal , a warm phone is.
but if you contact applecare that way you have a record of the issue incase it gets worse in the future.

The thunderbolt lead gets hot to the touch is this normal

I have noticed that the area on top of my macbook airs thunderbolt display port when connected get quiet warm and when I disconnect it it's warm to the point of being hot, is this normal?
I only use the display for normal computer use mostly having the screen split half for web browsing and half for mail.

Oh. Well then I don't know if that is normal or not. Maybe you would have better luck from other MBA users in the apple MBA forum. Hopefully some of them had TB displays too.

I've mostly noticed it when "Location Services" (in general settings) are turned on. Turning Location Services on activates your gps antenna, which drains power and appears to generate a lot of heat. Remember, if you ask Maps, or allow a location-based application like Yelp, to identify your current location, Location Services will automatically turn on and stay on (even after you've closed the application).

When using the device or charging the battery, it is normal for it to get warm. The exterior of the device functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the device to the cooler air outside.
By all means, if you believe the temperature is a concern, you can isolate the issue by restoring your iPhone as new:

I'm guessing it's a hardware problem. Your best option is to go to an Apple Store as soon as you can to try and sort this all out. While you're waiting to go visit an Apple Store, however, I'd imagine you still want to use your phone. To circumvent your hardware button problems, try enabling Assistive Touch by going to Settings>General>Accesibility>Assistive Touch. You'll see a small box appear on your screen. Tapping it will bring up several options for you to choose from, like the home button. Clicking the "Device" option will give you several options for controlling your phone that you would normally use hardware buttons for (i.e. volume, lock your phone, etc.) Hope this helps and good luck!

I got a new iPhone 4 for Christmas. It is constantly overheating and getting insanely hot when charging. My battery life is suffering, it takes hours to charge and loses battery life very quickly. Idealy you should move your itunes content from your old computer to your new one

It all depends on the reception. If you cell reception is bad, iPhone will try harder and it will get warmer and uses more battery.
For your info, iPhone 4S is a dual core A5 chip.

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch 32gb and it will not turn off, nor will it charge. Plugging in to my computer, iTunes does not even detected. Even if I leave it to charge, it does not detect it. My brother with the iPhone 4 suffers from that too.
My iphone 5 doesnt however.
But to Stop Launch when your apple device is connected, 1. connect your iPhoneto your computer, 2.Go to the Summary Page, 3. uncheck the box "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" and then your good for that device.
