IPhone 5C reboots while using and restoring from a backup

This issue hasn't appeared until I updated my iPhone to iOS 8.1.1. The phone will randomly reboot itself, and especially at strange moments, like closing an app or when it's literally sitting there doing nothing. Sometimes, once it reboots itself the first time, it will reboot again, and maybe another time, then go into recovery mode (which is what iTunes told me) and just have a black screen. Recently, it did this, and it booted to the lock screen before rebooting iteself, and then again once I unlocked the phone, then back to recovery mode.
I went ahead and reinstalled iOS, and ran into my second issue. Connected via cable, I was in the process of restoring the iPhone when iTunes tells me the iPhone "disconnected" and doesn't restore the device. The phone reboots itself when I try to restore the backup, and this is with a fresh install of iOS.
I'm completely clueless at this point. I have no idea whether it happens to be a software issue, hardware issue, or the content on the phone.
I'd greatly appreciate any insight as to what might be the problem, and if there is a way to fix it. (iPhone 5C 16GB, if this info is needed)

SMS/MMS are included with your iPhone's backup as are email account settings, but email messages are not included with the backup. This shouldn't be a problem with an IMAP account, but can be a problem with a POP account. When a POP account is re-created with an email client, all received messages that remain at the incoming mail server will be downloaded again as new and unread messages. Since you can't store sent messages on the server with a POP account accessed with an email client, all messages sent by the account with your iPhone will be lost.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup.

Skype, Where's My water, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds Space etc...
I already tried reformatting my phone.. Erased all content and settings.. And still the same..
BTW my phone runs on latest iOS 5.1

Restore as a New phone. Do not restore your backup. Add your apps back. If the problem still exists you have a hardware problem. If this fixes it you have a corrupt backup.
This assumes your phone is not jailbroken. If it is all bets are off.

  • How do I transfer itunes music to my iphone 4 without using the restore from this backup function?

How do I transfer itunes music to my iphone 4 without using the restore from this backup function?  I cannot use the back up function as have been advised that therer are bugs in it and restoring it back to my phone will bring the bugs with it and phone will be back to apple again as will start playing up again.  But I need the music.  Whn I plug it in laptop and go to itunes icon it gives me 2 options:  Set up as new iphone? OR Restore from backup.
Do I pick set up as new phone?  I dont know as the guy at the genius bar told me there would be an option asking if i want to sync itunes only...but there isn't.

Set up as New and then... Re-Sync your Content from iTunes.

  • Updating iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and restore from backup - losing contacts again and again

    Hi there,
I updatet today my iPhone to iOS 6. Before that I made a new backup (and have old ones too).
Everytime when I restore it now from a backup, the contacts are again there but then after hours, from one moment to another, the contacts are gone.
Some contacts are still there, I think that a really old ones.
I don't use the iCloud, I disabled iCloud every time in the settings and have no WiFi connection at home. Otherwise everytime when I must activate the iPhone after restoring, i do not activate the iCloud. I know iOS 6 wish this in activation process but I don't want to use the iCloud.
I'm ****** of because of that, tomorrow I will travel to Bremen (Germany) and I need my iPhone and of course my contacts.
Any idea what is goining on?
Sorry for my bad english, I hope somebody can help.

What were you syncing your contacts with? If you were not syncing them to a contact manager or cloud service as intended, you may have to purchase 3rd party software to try and extract what informaion there is from the backup.

  • No sms or photos after upgrading to IOS7 and restoring from IOS6 backup

In preparation for uprading to IOS7 on my IPhone 5, using Itunes 11.1.1.11, I performed a full backup of my device, which was at IOS6 to my computer. Given the issues I'd heard from other people, I then did a factory reset of my phone.  Using ITunes, I then did the upgrade, and when asked about restoring data, selected the only backup available in the list.
When this had completed, to my horror, I had no photos, videos, contacts, email and settings or SMS messages that I had assumed had been backed up previously. All that was on my phone was my apps and music.
How do I get my missing data onto my phone from the backup that I took?

razmee209 I have restored from iTunes, I don't have it backed up to iCloud.
When I was restoring, it kept going in a loop, after the phone restarted the status bar showed only a tiny bit completed and then that screen disappeared and went back to the "Hello" screen which eventually took me back to the screen asking if I wanted to set up as new phone or restore. After many many attempts I then elected to set up as a new phone and after a little time the contacts, apps, music, calendar etc where all there (although games have reverted back to the beginning) unfortuantely I have no messages and no photos (well a few that had been saved to iCloud).
I have restored to factory settings several times, I have uninstalled iTunes several times and did it step by step in the correct order and then re-installed.
I am at a loss as to what to do next, help please
PS I did the final backup last night

  • Reformat HD OSX 10.6.7 and restore frome TM backup???

I have a Macbook Pro. (early 2009 model) I want to reformat the internal HD and the restore from a TM backup which is on an external drive. I want to be sure I do this correctly! Please help.
    Thanks.

Try this, I use it instead of restore from TimeMachine, and it does work.
you will need another hard drive for backup partition with as much space as the size of the files on your hard drive you want to backup.
if you have multiple partitions to backup that makes it harder.
Clone your drive partition(s) with SuperDuper.
Run Disk Warrior in addition to Apple DU First Aid (hard drive repair).
ERASE/FORMAT the hard drive (not just the volume you were using) booted from your new clone. That also insures your clone works properly.
    RESTORE
    optimizes free space
doesn't copy temp files and folders, which are best recreated fresh on first restart anyway
organizes folders and directories into smart order
Mac OS doesn't do well with less than 20% free space or highly fragmented free space. 30% free or more would of course be even better.
No need to and I've almost never done a 2nd OS install.
But I personally feel it is important when moving to a newer OS to initialize drivers with the new version of Disk Utility.
Also, new drives can make a difference. just try seeing what a 120GB SSD can do for you.
And never have just one backup set or method, redundant backup strategies.
SuperDuper has been used along with Disk Warrior for last decade to keep systems running in optimum shape, and all your programs and settings work properly. I doubt though that TimeMachine is best, but it will not "reintroduce" your sluggishness unless of course there is a corrupt preference.
Also, usually, all it takes (after making a full backup of course) is a shot of Disk Warrior to rebuild the drive directory to resolve many issues, some of which Apple DU doesn't look for, so it can't 'fix.' IF you also have enough free space.
And you can manually clean up your hard drive, all your browser temp files and caches alone with 1000s of small files scattered around the drive and taking up 100s MB.

  • I need to restore from last backup because my iPhone is having issues. I'd like to keep certain pictures and videos from my iPhone app: Video Safe. If I do restore from last backup, will the pics that I put on the app after my last backup still be on it?

My iPhone keeps switching between turning wheel and iPhone logo so I need to restore from last backup. I just really want to keep certain videos and pictures from the Video Safe app which were added to it after the last backup.

Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

When setting up my new iphone I had to skip the "Restore from icloud backup" stage because it would not connect. How do I now get back to this so I can restore from a previous iphone?

  • Can't find the set up ipad    Need to reboot the system and recover from icloud but not sure how to do this

Not certain how to reboot the ipad.   Had some instructions but alas stumped on set up.   I have backed up in ICloud but need to get to a "set up"process

You restore from an iCloud  backup on the iPad itself. You have to reset the iPad in the settings app. Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. You will then be starting from the beginning - you will be setting the iPad up all over again.
This article explains how to do it.

  • My iphone cut off while using itunes and now it wont work. it cuts on and off and it wont restore.

while putting music on my iphone from itunes my iphone suddenly cut off. it wouldnt come back on unless hooked up to charger and even then it turns on and off.. i have tried restoring it but it wont work. it actually restored once but it just started doing the same thing within an hour. every other time it errors out. what can i do?

    Hi emfletcher!
If you have already tried restoring the iPhone, then the next troubleshooting step to address this issue would be to try putting the phone into recovery mode and attempting a restore from there. I have an article for you that can help you perform these steps:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
In order to fully troubleshoot and isolate issues, I would recommend not restoring from your backup after you finish this procedure. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

Read another post in the forum about this and it appears this app also installs a profile with a proxy service that you will have to try and delete as well. Check that out.
