Iphone 5s and "forced data useage"

Hi all,
I was an android guy for years but finally went for an iphone 5s this time around and signed up with Verizon for the new $45 plan. Unltd Text, talk, and 250MB of data or AKA "The Wifi Only Plan." I came from metro PCS and enjoyed the same deal, but now I get with a better carrier with better coverage. I am fine with a low data amount plan because I have wifi at home and work. But this iphone 5s is forcing me to use data and I believe that it is not fair and want a rep to chime in on this situation. Some of the points may be able to be fixed on my end - so let me know how, but i think most are in a catch 22.
1) Most importantly... Voicemail. I go to the voicemail icon on my phone and if my cellur data is disabled... then I can not reach it. This forces me to turn on my data just to fetch voicemail which is a basic service and should be inclusive into my unlimited voice portion of the plan. Is there a way in the iphone 5s to get around this?
2) iMessage. This is sent across the data line of the carrier. I have had a few problems sending and receiving messages iphone to iphone because I have supposedly turned the data feature to iMessage off. Not good, not reliable service.
3) System Services. Eventhough it is only KBs of data it is still my data pool and should not have to pay for the auto system services that run on the phone. If I can control this on Iphone, lemme know where, but it seems that if I turn my data on for my phone these will auto send and receive data to where as individual apps I can block.
Also is there a data warning text I can receive when I get close to my monthly alotment?

1. Dial *86 instead of using the built in Visual Voice Mail.
2. Don't use iMessage. Unassociate your device with iMessage. Turn it off and just use SMS.
3. You can't change that. And as you noted, it doesn't use much data.
Yes. Log in to your My Verizon account you can set data alerts.

Are you in an area where there is no coverage?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If that doesn't help, then yOu'll need to contact Sprint again.

I upgraded from an iphone 3 to an iphone 4 and my data will not transfer over from itunes

Thanks for replying, I'm a real techno-cretin. What do you mean by not using the backup? I'm busy trying to restore my new phone and it's doing a 6 hour download with updates. Can I restore the data from my old phone backup onto the new iPhone 4S when the download is done?

If you don't have a cellular data plan, then why are you expecting that you will have an active internet connection unless you are connected to wi-fi?
iMessages require either wi-fi or a cellular data connection.

How to transfer iPhone apps and their data to new MacBook Pro?

I just got the new Retina Macbook Pro. Before, I synced my iPhone with my iMac. Now I want to sync my iphone with my new RMBP instead. I transfered my music and applications to the new Mac. My music syncs to my iPhone just fine, however, if I click to check to sync my iPhone applications to this computer then a warning message pops up saying all my existing apps and data will be deleted. I aready clicked transfer purchases to my new Mac, so all my apps are already on the computer.
But how do I get my apps to sync with my new Mac, without deleting all my apps data?

Question about iphone apps and saved data.

So let's say I'm playing a game from the app store on my iphone and I beat it. Now I want to buy a new game but I don't have enough space to keep them both on my phone. So I delete the old one from my phone knowing it will still be on my mac. Then I play the new game and beat it and I start wanting to play that old game again. So I put the old one back on my phone and I lost everything I did before. Why? Is there a way I can take an app off my iphone without losing all the saved data?

Here's how it works (from page 179 of the iPhone iOS4 User Guide). You can delete apps you install from the App Store. If you delete an app, data associated with the app is no longer available to iPhone, unless you reinstall the app and restore its data from a backup.
You can reinstall an app and restore its data as long as you backed up iPhone with iTunes on your computer. (If you try to delete an app that hasn’t been backed up to your computer, an alert appears.) To retrieve the app data, you must restore iPhone from a backup containing the data.

Find My iPhone is the only way. Else just hope you had a screenlock passcode that's sufficently strong so the thief blocks the phone first.

IPhone 4s and China Mobile "welcome message" issue

Hi there,
I've bought iPhone 4s and use it with China Mobile sim here in China.
I'm experiencing a very annoying issue that makes my new iPhone 4s almost unusable: every now and then (pretty often actually even several times a minute sometime) I keep on receiving a "welcome message" from China mobile on a black screen with "cancel" and "accept" buttons in the bottom (see picture)
The message says "Dear customer: thanks for chosing China Mobile, China Mobile wishes you a great success" (or something like that, I got it translated by a colleague).
The annoying part is that this message keeps on popping up continuosly and it actually interferes with the use of the telephone (e.g. if I'm using Siri and the message pops up, I have to start all over again and so on).
Strangely enough the message pops up even in airplane mode, with cellular data deactivated, with or without WiFi etc.
I called China Mobile and they told me to call Apple, I called Apple and they told me to call China Mobile.... Nobody seems being able to support.
I've been using iPhone 4 with the same SIM card until a few days ago and never experienced such a problem!
I must also say that the battery life of my brand new iPhone 4s is very short and I think it's because it keeps on trying 3G data connection (not available from China Mobile) that unfortunately cannot be deactivated anymore in iPhone 4s with iOS 5 (the option is still there with iPhone 4 with iOS 5). Network reception is also disappointing I presume for the same reason: if I could deactivate the 3G data (while keeping 2G data active) it would probably not happen.
I hope someone out there is able to help me.
Obviously I've been trying all sorts of resets (iPhone restart and reset, data connection reset etc.).

I haven't been back to China yet, but i did speak with Apple. Why Verizon couldn't have told me this is beyond comprehension. Apple said to Settings, then click on General, scroll down to and click on Reset then click on Reset Network Settings. Apple said that should do it at least in my instance. Unfortunately i haven't been out of the country to test it. I can't tell you how much this infuriates me about Verizon because i called them twice to check to see what to do and they told me no it should just automatically hook up to a new network. All i can say is Verizon Global Technical support was useless and they need to learn there product line.

I am having a issue with getting data useage alerts for my iphone 4s from AT&T. I do not download anything huge at all.
I looked into it and figured out that the phone dials out nightly at 12:29am every night. I went into my settings and went to general..about..diagnostics and useage..then diagnostics and useage data to see this. I then clicked don't send...but I am still getting useage alerts. Can anyone help me please...

Honestly, from reading the thread linked, they all come off as a bunch of whiney people that cannot be bothered to help themselves.
Little to nothing in that thread indicates an issue beyond inept consumers. Yes, I read several pages on the incessant gripes. Very few made any actual attempts to troubleshoot issues before whining about the "Apple issue" and those that did actual troubleshooting got their issues resolved.
So no, Apple has nothing to fix beyond a few specific devices that are experiencing hardware issues.
If you have actually put forth effort and done the basic troubleshooting, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement. Whining will get nothing accomplished.

iPhones require a SIM for activation.
Put the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore via iTunes.

When I go into the sync options it say I have another user account and asks me if I want to merge of replace. I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that. Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Calendars>Sync>All Events.
Note: If you're using a work Exchange account, the administrator my have restricted your options for this setting.
