Iphone 5s battery not holding charge

I have been have problems with my Iphone5S battery life recently, I have followed the steps to save as much battery life as possible and I went to a genius bar as I thought the battery may be on its way out but they ran tests and told me its still a healthy battery, in the 90% mark and anything over 80% is good especially when I have had over 500 charges. They told me software errors and crashes have occurred a lot and to complete a fresh install of IOS which I'm hoping i factory settings, which I have just completed yesterday and so the software is completely new. I have found that the battery has already decreased by 10% in 20 minutes without hardly any use. Does anyone know whats causing this issue? thanks

I have this problem too. My iphone isn't recognizing ANY charger after  upgrading to 8.2

    Hi pamellag,
Here is some information on iPhone batteries that may help you:
    Apple - Batteries - iPhone
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
One of the side notes states:
    Charge Cycles
A properly maintained iPhone battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.
The 'replace' link above leads to some options if you need to get the battery replaced:

  • IPhone 4s battery not holding a charge

I just set up an account with AT&T  and got a  iphone 4s this was Wednesday 22nd May 2013, It didnt hold its charge, I had it charging all that night at 530am Thursday morning battery was at 100%  by 8am that morning it was at 36% with light usage, ie, facebook, email, a couple of texts.  Went back to AT&T they exchanged the phone for me, the same thing is happening.  Should I take it back to AT&T or take it to Apple?  So frustrated, we are currently driving across country to our next Army duty station having a new phone that requires constant charging is not helpful.

    Hello there, Katronale2012.
Just to rule out usage, before you have to travel again, look over this document that talks about getting the most out of your iPhone's battery:
    Apple - Batteries - iPhone
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    Specifically,
    Optimize Your Settings
Depending on how they are configured, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. For example, the frequency with which you retrieve email and the number of email accounts you auto-check can both affect battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iOS 5.0 or later and may help extend your battery life.
Adjust brightness: Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life. Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness. In addition, turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper and set Auto-Brightness to On.
Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account such as Yahoo! or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push when you don’t need it. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.
Fetch new data less frequently: Applications such as Mail can be set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals. The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Note that this is a global setting and applies to all applications that do not support push services.
Turn off push notifications: Some applications from the App Store use the Apple Push Notification service to alert you of new data. Applications that extensively rely on push notifications (such as instant messaging applications) may impact battery life. To disable push notifications, go to Settings > Notifications and disable notifications for select applications. Note that this does not prevent new data from being received when the application is opened. Also, the Notifications setting will not be visible if you do not have any applications installed that support push notifications.
Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. To disable location services, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services or use location services only when needed.
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Because your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, it may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turning on Airplane Mode can increase battery life in these situations; however, you will be unable to make or receive calls. To turn on Airplane Mode, go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Tungsten E2 Handheld-Battery not holding charge

    Dear Palm Support,
My battery is not holding a charge and is therefore, not synching.
Can I buy an internal battery for my Tungsten E2 on line?  If not, can you please tell me the closest location (i.e. Best Buy, Staples, Circuit City) to my house. My zip code is 19067, Yardley PA.
    Thank you very much,
    Catherine DeSimone
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    How are you charging?
If you are using the sync cable, be aware that not all USB ports are alike and that most do not meet USB 2.0 specifications or have enough power to charge, further if you are using a laptop it must be turned on and connected to a wall outlet to charge your device.
If you are using the wall charger, be absolutely certain the wall outlet is powered. If it is under a desk or you have pets, it can very simply be partially out of the socket. I have also read of weird wiring, where wall switches can and do turn off outlets in other rooms.
Should the outlet be functional, try an on-charger reset. Plug into wall outlet, connect your device to the charge cable, then press the reset button on the back. Leave alone for 4 hours or overnight to recalibrate the battery.
If this does not work, the battery may need to be disconnected for a minute then reconnected. There are many threads already discussing this process which requires a Torx driver to remove the back cover.
Lastly, if your device is around 2 years old and used heavily, it is probable that you are nearing the limit of charge cycles a LithiumIon battery can accept. In this case, you must replace the battery. PDAParts.com and UsedPDAParts.com can help.
Because the E2 uses a clip to connect the battery it is not hard to do this yourself with the Torx, unlike other models that require soldering the battery.

  • Battery not holding charge

Ever since my last upgrade the battery is not holding it's charge very well. I've disabled the locator. Anybody else having problems? Any suggestions?

When the phone gets hot, the battery will not hold a charge. I've not checked to see what caused it specifically, but my Droid was working fine until one day it just went hot and the battery charge went bye-bye. I tried to recharge it, but it won't hold the charge.
I wasn't sure what was causing the phone to get hot, but I know it's not the battery itself that's getting hot. I figured this much out when I did a battery pull. The battery itself was warm, but the area where the camera was on the phone was quite toasty. I let my phone cool down for a few minutes then put the battery back. Haven't had any sort of issue since then so far. I do have my suspicions.
I believe certain apps may be playing a role here. Which one is the question. I don't have ATK and I actually have Power Manager as well. My initial guess was antivirus since it was the last app I installed before the phone went supernova. I adjusted the settings for it which I thought fixed it, but it actually got hot one more time before I did the battery pull.
It may not work for everyone, but you can try what I did and see if it fixes your issue.

  • 'New' Exchange Battery not holding charge - Date & Time problems

I recently received a 'new' exchange battery for my 2001 500mhz white ibook (OSX 10.3.9, 320ram), as part of the Battery Exchange program, and now I'm having some new problems.
Since I started using the battery a few weeks ago, I've been having constant problems with the Date & Time reseting itself to 1969. I reset to current time, but when I turn on again, it's resets back again. Also, this battery is not holding a charge very well, lasting only about 40 minutes after fully charged (My old battery lasted 2 hours).
I calibrated the battery when i first received it, and I've reset the PMU twice, but no luck.
Thanks in advance for any help & advice....

Only if you replaced your original battery with one from Apple within a certain time frame and within a specific range of serial numbers. Check out the details here:

  • Macbook 13" battery not holding charge though claims to be at 99% or 100%

My Macbook 13" is coming up about 3 years old but has had this problem for nearly a year now (I've just been reluctant to accept I might just need a new battery until now). Although it claims to be fully charged, it goes into sleep mode (or something similar) as early as at 92% battery and can't be woken up even when my charger is plugged back in, it needs to be turned off and back on with the button. Basically, it doesn't hold charge.
Admittedly the cycle count is on 569 so it might just be worn out. Does it just need replacing or is there a deeper, more sinister fault at work here?

  • HT4060 Battery not holding charge

My ipad battery no longer holds a charge. Happened coincidentaly with ios7 install.  I shut down all apps and options that drain the battery but it does not help.
Any thoughts other than replacing the battery?

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IBook G4 Battery Not Holding Charge

I have been using an iBook G4 for over 5 years (1.42GHz, 14in, running OS 10.5).  Most of the time the iBook is connected to the power adaptor.  Only occasionally do I take it to another room and run it on battery.  In the last few weeks, when I disconnect the power adaptor, the battery will only last for 5 minutes and the ibook will shut down abruptly.  It does not go to sleep as I expect it would.  I need to reboot the unit.  I check the battery information and it looks like:
      Charge Information:
      Charge remaining (mAh):    64746
      Charging:    No
      Full charge capacity (mAh):    65511
      Health Information:
      Cycle count:    152
      Condition:    Good
      Battery Installed:    Yes
      Amperage (mA):    0
      Voltage (mV):    16115
Do I need a new battery or is there something else wrong?
The abrupt shutdown brings an annoying side problem.  Apparently the password for my wi-fi gets corrupted.  I had to delete the entry in keychain and reenter the wi-fi access information after the restart.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It's most likely that you need a new battery.
The typical lifespan of a lithium-ion battery is two to three years, whether it is used or not. Apple tells you that it's actually better to use the battery regularly than it is to keep it on the adapter all the time.
    Standard Maintenance
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to your desktop’s iCal. When your battery no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to replace it. If your notebook came with a built-in battery, you should have the battery replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    From:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
The article has been updated for the latest Apple portables, but the recommendation to use the battery frequently was there long before the MacBook and MacBook Pro were introduced.
