IPhone 5s bipolar microphone

The microphone on my iPhone 5s is being bipolar, people will hear me on the phone but as soon as it goes to loudspeaker it doesn't work. Siri will not pick up my voice, the video function will not pick up any audio. FaceTime has no audio for me, people can't hear me. However, the Voice Memo test showed no issues, all microphones are working. Also, google can pick up my voice e.g. ok google. Very unusual.
Any help?

I have been experiencing the same issues since purchasing the iPhone 5s at the end of November. I am constantly being told I sound like I am talking through a pillow when I am yelling into the phone. My software is iOS 7.0.4. I have disabled the noise cancelling feature and no improvement. I have an otterbox commander series on the phone that is specially designed for the 5s. Nothing is blocking any of the microphones on the phone. I am at my wits end with this phone and very disappointed with it. My iPhone 4 was much better.

  • TS2634 My iphone headphones with microphone don't work.  Any suggestions?

My iphone headphones with microphone have stopped working, and they are under warranty.  I am having difficulty getting an answer about what to do from Apple - just got off the phone with them, and they emailed me an article that was of no help at all.  Any suggestions as to how I can resolve  this issue would be greatly appreciated.

All, I have this same problem and has just solved it on my iPhone.
I read up on the problem at att.com/esupport and arrived at the link below:
    https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB413495#fbid=ahhj00ALH45
"If your email address is linked to your AT&T Access ID, changing your AT&T Access ID password automatically changes your email password to the same password.
If you use your email address as your AT&T Access ID, changing your email password automatically changes your AT&T Access ID password to the same password."
I have a ATT Uverse (for my internet access) acct and could not log on so I requested for password reset. They sent me temp password and I had to change my password to my Uverse acct. I use my att.net email as the log on for my Uverse acct. Per att instructions above, my Uverse acct is linked to my att.net email, so now my att.net email pw has been changed to the pw for my Uverse acct.
Accordingly, go into your iPhone Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose your Att.net mail acct and change your password.  In my case I changed it to the new pw I had set up for my Uverse acct and it works.
Before doing this, I had also added new servers as shown below. The way I see it because your iPhone will try in succession to log on to each server from top to bottom of the list, it's best to add all the mail servers.
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    smtp.mail.att.net
    outbound.att.net
Please note that I did not have to add "imap.mail.att.net" and my Att.net mail on my iPhone still works.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to use iphone as a microphone for the sound to come out in a bluetooth wireless speaker? what app?

well i want to do the impossible- i think. i want to know if i there is an app that will allow me to use my iphone as a microphone, for the iphone to be able to be connected to a wireless bluetooth speaker, and for the sound, to come out on the speaker. (the voice) without any cables. in order to do some fun stuff like karaoke or just talk.

    Hi redzknzz,
I see this has been up for over a year with no responses. Did you ever find a solution? I'm interested in something similar. The apps I've seen require the iPhone be connected to a powered speaker with a stereo cable. There are apps that allow you to connect to another iDevice via WiFi, which can then connect to the speaker. No output via Bluetooth yet.
    Have you found anything?

  • IPhone 4 - Which microphone is used during video recording?

I was wondering if anyone knew which of the iPhone 4's microphones are used during video recording. I'm not completely sure but it seems like only the noise canceling microphone is used, whereas voice memos use the bottom microphone only.

Exactly correct. Why is was made this way, I have no clue.
I think both should be using the top mic rather then the bottom as that is were your hand usually is. I think it should be made an option.

  • Iphone 4. Microphone fails during calls

Iphone 4. Microphone fails during calls

Yeah -- I'm getting this myself.  Did you ever find a solution?
    Here's some more information:
    Microphone DOES NOT work when:
I make a call via carrier (typical method)
I receive a call via carrier (typical method)
    Microphone SOMETIMES works when:
I make a call via carrier (typical method), and then cuts out a few minutes during the call
I receive a call via carrier (typical method), and then cuts out a few minutes during the call
    Microphone DOES work when:
    Using recording apps (voice memos)
Make calls via data apps like:  Skype,  MagicJack.  I can use these apps to call/communicate with the person on the other end of the call without ANY issues.  Microphone does not cut out at all.  Works perfectly.
Tried To Solve Using The Following (To no avail):
Plug in / out headphones/mic.  This is functioning properly.  When I take out headphones/mic, and use the volume toggle, it does not show headphones as being plugged in.  Looks typical, and I can hear sound coming out of the speakers.
Tried using the external "speaker" option during calls.  This had no effect.  The speaker icon highlights, and appears as normal, but they still cannot hear me talking into the mic.
Switching Carriers in Settings > Carriers.  I tried hopping onto another carrier  (by disabling Auto), then moving back to my own Carrier.  Something to note... THe other carrier didn't allow me to fully connect to it.  I was not able to make a call on another carrier (I suspect this is normal).  I then re-enabled Auto.  Nothing helps.
    Reboot, Toggle Airplane-mode
    Latest Update (5.0.1)
    Sync with iTunes
    Summary Of Problem:
This is seemingly an issue while making / receiving calls through the carrier., but I've seen this problem a lot in other forums.  They've tried different SIM, and carriers, and nothing's helped.   I'll try a new SIM card next, though I don't see it as being a coverage thing what-so-ever.  My data works, and my mic WORKS --- just not during phone calls.

  • IPhone 5S Rear Microphone Causing Muffled/Quiet Voice Calls

    Hi folks,
There are quite a few threads here about this issue - iPhone 5S (in my case 32GB grey) with iOS 7.0.4 - fresh install from factory - phone only a few days old - the Rear Microphone (just next to the rear camera) is causing major issues with voice quality for the person at the other end of the line. Outside of a case (naked phone), with the rear mic uncovered, your voice should sound perfectly clear to the other person, but put the phone in a case or cover that rear mic even slightly (and I do mean a TINY bit) and the voice quality suddenly drops dramatically and you sound distant and fuzzy, almost inaudible.
The case I'm using is really thin and the hole cut out around the rear cam and rear mic is easily large enough and not blocking them. But even those few mm of case thickness seem to be causing issues for the mic, and folding the front of the case round the back (for comfort) renders calls almost impossible for me.
I have tried disabling Phone Noise Cancellation but this has zero effect on the situation and the Rear Mic is still functioning (is this a bug in the latest 7.0.4?). I have also tried enabling Hearing Aid mode but this not only had no positive effect on my voice for the other person but actually made the other person almost inaudible to me! So neiher of us could hear eachother.
Conclusion? The Rear Mic has a problem . That problem may or may not be related to Phone Noise Cancellation. This may be an iOS (software) problem or a hardware problem. Either way it is a major problem.
My first upgrade since my iPhone 4 and I wish I hadn't bothered.... making and receiving calls with this 5S is a painful experience so far.
I've had this all but confirmed by Apple Support on the phone, and they confirmed that they've had several similar complaints. Their suggestion was to try a new case, but I can't see how that would help at all, or enough, since my current case has a very adequate hole for the rear mic area and I can't see any other cases having a larger space for this...
So, maybe we can have a show of hands for others suffering with this issue - and please remember to post your spec and setup so we can try to isolate the case of the issue! My hunch (and hope) is that it's a simple software issue that can be sorted, perhaps by properly disabling that Rear Mic (no setting I've found does this yet).

  • Can you use iPhone ear buds microphone with your MacBook Air?

If you use your ear buds to listen to your Facetime conversations, are also using the microphone on them to talk?

Yes you can. Any headset compatible with the iPhone works just fine for full duplex conversation on a MacBook Air of current design. The microphone and earphones are simultaneously active.

  • Today my iphone 5's microphone icon is not working for Notes.  Worked yesterday...

I have been using my iPhone 5's app Notes to dictate my inventory and send it to my computer rather than typing in everything... until today. The microphone icon in Notes is gray.  I checked Messages and Mail to find that the microphone is operable within those apps.  Where do I go from here?

    Hi Kaelekulin7,
Dictation is one of my favorites features on the iPhone as well!
If it is working in some apps and not others, I would suggest you:
    1) Close the Notes app
    2) Reset the iPhone
    3) Restart the iPhone
iOS: Force an app to close
From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
Tap and hold on the app.
When it starts to jiggle, tap the red dot with the white minus sign to close it.
Double-click the Home button and try opening the app again.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Can I use the iPhone as external microphone for my iMac?

My imac doesn't have a mic in, only a line in. Is it possible to use the iPhone as external mircrophone with some extra software maybe? I want to create video tutorials and the internal microphone isn't good enough for this.

  • How to synchronize iPhone video and microphone audio in iMovie?

    1. I have video footage captured with an iPhone 5s (roughly 7 minutes of piano).
    2. I have audio footage captured with a third-party microphone (same 7 minutes of piano playing).
    3. I bring these two pieces of footage into iMovie and line them up at the beginning of the clips.
    4. When I start playing the movie, the video and audio are in sync. Towards the end of the movie, the video and audio are out of sync by roughly 0.5 - 1 second.
My question is how do I synchronize the iPhone and microphone footage in iMovie?
Is this a problem with the video captured with the iPhone?
Or is this a problem with iMovie not able to synchronize video and audio from multiple clips?
Note: I cannot use beat markers to solve this, because the piano playing does not fall on equal durations ("beats").

I cannot synchronize the Address Book and Calendar data, even by means of iCloud or similar servers.  It appears these data are not selected automatically during synchronization. How can one select Address Book and Calendar Book in Mavericks for synchronization ?

  • Alternate iPhone earbuds w/ microphone?

Please post any non-stock true earbuds w/ microphone to replace those which come w/ the iPhone. Lets hear the good, bad, and ugly of your experience.
The earbuds that came w/ the phone are more like earbudweiser cans. Theyre HUGE and after just a few min have my ears raw, chaffed, and heading to ICU. They also feel like they're always about to fall of...which occasionally they do. I realize we all have diff size ears, so zealouts plz feel free not to share how perfect they are for u.
I have a pair of griffin earbuds, TRUE earbuds which even have an ear wrap. I can wear these forever, the audio is amazing, but they lack a microphone. Dang!

...and the best sound I've ever found is with my Shure E4c. I've used all the Etymotics, several of the Shures, the Bose, Apple, Sony, VibeDuo, etc. ad. inf.
I've tried them all next to each other, and the Shures win hands down. But they're an in-canal earphone, so they block out a lot of street noise. This is excellent if you're on an airplane, or in the gym concentrating and don't want to hear the Today show or Bad Company (what's up with gym music, anyway?!). It's trickier if you're crossing streets in a busy city, because you lose a lot of aural information about what's happening behind and to the sides of you.
Some of the less expensive Shures aren't so hot. I reckon any of the higher end models are as good or better than the E4c, but I haven't tried the latest models.
Anyway, Shure is bringing out an adapter that lets any pair of their earphones have a mic and a controller. You can order it from the Apple store: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C0 4E0D7&nplm=TN544LL/A

  • Capture iPhone camera and microphone using QuickTIme in a web based app.

    Hi all.
Can I capture video from iPhone's camera and audio from the mic. using QuickTime in a web based app. ? Of course on the iPhone 3G and 3GS. I need this because I want to let users to use the iPhone for a web based video chat. So theoretically my point is to use QuickTime to capture an a/v signal from a Mac camera/mic. or iPhone camera/mic., to encode that a/v signal (QuickTime knows to encode to H.264/AAC right?) and to send the encoded stream to a server. Is this scenario a realistic one? Can it be implemented ? (I don't have any experience in programming with iPhone and Mac...)
Btw. do you know any emulators for iPhone that runs on Windows 7?
    Thanks,
    Tudor

  • Are iPad and iPhone built in microphones mono or stereo?

    That's my question.

He assumed that you were hoping the mic would be stereo. As I said, though, for most use cases, a mono mic is just fine (or even better). What use do you have in mind. The only situation in which a stereo mic would be better is if you're going to record a stage or room full of musicians playing. If you're recording voice memos, or even recording yourself playing a single instrument, a stereo mic is unnecessary.
That said, we still haven't completely resolved whether the built-in mic is mono or stereo. The tech specs on apple.com don't specify, but I am 99.9% certain that it is mono.
