IPhone 5S Call quality issues - Are they resolved?

Hi folks,
So long story short, I was previously a VZW customer with an iPhone 5S. When I was a customer, everything worked great, except one thing, Calls.
What would happen during is:
1) The calls would sound metallic/robotic
2) the calls would sort of go in and out (for example I would hear: " Yeah ... Fun at... Saturday)
(Both 1 and 2 would happen indoors and outdoors)
3) Calls would drop
So like any reasonable person, I called into Customer Service and was offered a Network Extender for $199. This did help indoors for the most part, but not outside (like literally outside my building; out of range perhaps?)
I read of others having the same issues here, so I knew I wasn't alone, but there was just no solution to the problem. I thought it was my iPhone at first. However, I ported out to AT&T and the calls were crystal clear compared to VZW. So that kinda confirmed it's not my phone.
My zip code is 10453 (and this area has great coverage according to the coverage map, but I couldn't get any more than 3 bars of LTE outside and 1-2 indoors). My question is, has this issue been resolved? If so how can I improve it? Honestly looking forward to being a VZW customer again, despite no simultaneous talk and surf on the iPhone.
Thanks for any comments/solutions offered!

When the person called me, I was indoors. I am the one with the ATT phone (wanting to switch to vzw) and never get this issue, not even when Sprint callers call me. The person who called me was outdoors and he has Verizon (zip: 10023)
The call was very choppy with the voice cutting in and out on his end, and the call was slightly metallic sounding. I could barely understand a word he was saying. The quality was exactly the same when I was with Verizon. At first I thought it was my phone, and now this confirms it never was my phone. I am truly convinced this is a notice cancellation issue with verizon because like I said, I never get this issue when Sprint users call me. It doesn't really matter who initiates the call, the quality is always the same, horrible.
I really want to be part of VZ but I can't if I am to expect these issues!   please help. I don't know if it's congestion or just the call coding itself.

  • Iphone 6 call quality issue....

Hi, yesterday i saw software update in my iphone 6 and i thought it will solve the call quality issue , but unfortunately it was not for that.
Dear iphone support , the call quality in iphone 6 is really bad, I was using iphone 4S and that had great voice quality. iphone 6 voice during call is not clear , it has noise .
When I told my friends about the problem , they told me that I might have bought the refurbish phone. But I bought it from Dubai in 750 USD and I do not think it would be the case.

Since my iPhone 6 has great Call Quality,
My tip would be to take it to an Apple shop. All apple Products have world wide warranty.
If it is really they should be able to fix it.
    Hope this helps,

  • IPhone 6 Call Quality Issues

    iPhone 6 64gb 8.0
As of yet, I've not been able to make or receive a call without the other person sounding like they're three rooms away. I've turned up the volume on the side and within settings. I've turned the phone off and back on again.
I backed up this phone from my last iPhone (5) so that I have all my personalization and files, etc. on it now. I also took the SIM card from my old phone and put it in my new phone.
Everything else seems to work fairly well. It's just the call quality. I can hear what they're saying, They can hear me, but it seems like the volume is as low as it goes. But I know it's not.
    HELP!

since I received my iPhone 6 Plus on Friday I've noticed that all of my phone calls have very bad audio quality.  i thought it was just when I was talking to someone in a car. But it doesn't matter where they are.
WHat hat does it sound like:
its like a crappy digitized vrry tinny sound. It's as if the ither person is talking on a radio.

  • IPhone 5 call quality issue. (Either call ends or very choppy on the other end)

At random times my calls don't go through. The phone says call ended and doesn't ring. The reception is either full or close to full. This has occurred numerous times while calling different numbers. If I do manage to get the phone to ring, the person on the other end wouldn't be able to hear me as it would be very choppy. I have tried to reset the network settings with no luck. It is a random thing that happens at random times. It is not the carrier issue as all other functions of the phone work. Also this phone is an unlocked unit from Apple and is not in the U.S.

I just replied to a similar post and I'll copy and paste my response here. I was having the same exact issue. Here is my possible fix.
Yesterday I updated the OS to the latest release. Then right after that I called AT&T and they reset my sim card. Or something like that. They did some sort of reset.
I then got in my car and drove around to test the phone. Because that is when the problem is worse. FINALLY they claim to be able to hear me clearly!!!!
I think it was the combination of both the OS update and the sim card reset that fixed it. Hopefully..... It has only been one day but so far so good. I'll update this post if things change.
Try this and let us know if this works for you.

  • N900 USB Port issues, are they resolved yet?

Reading various forums regarding this device prior to purchase and I am seeing a lot of complaints about the USB port not being very well designed. IT would seem that these ports fail within a few months and it may take 4+ weeks to get a repaired phone back
I am so close to purchase but things like this are causing me to rethink my position....

an amend to the previous, it does seem to occur if I leave it purely idle for long periods of time with no powermanagement on, it just doesn't fail if I'm actually using it.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Update fix call quality issue?

Looking for feedback if the OTA update fixed the call quality issue.

I contacted Motorola directly and asked. The rep informed me that the Kit Kat update did NOT address call quality concerns.
Might there be another update available that does? (If so, the rep did not know of one.)  I LOVE the Moto X but bought the HTC One solely because of the call quality concerns of the Moto X.

  • IPhone 5s, call quality, periodic echo

I upgraded from the iPhone 4 to the 5s 4 months ago.  Ever since I upgraded, I have periodic issues with call quality.  In the middle of a call I will all the sidden start to hear myself talk and the person on the other end cant hear me at all and I cant hear them.  This happens to be in the Atlanta, GA area in the same places on interstate 75.

        jab1820,
Thank you so much for reaching back out to us. Could you please provide us with your mailing zip code? With your iPhone 5s can you please reset your network settings. You can do this by going into Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. Then re-try the call quality after that reset has been completed. Please keep us posted.

  • IPhone Poor Call Quality Without Headphones

I have an iPhone 4s.  When I am working in my home office, the carrier signal level is good - typically three or four bars out of 5.  However, the call quality is sometimes very poor - I can hear the other caller very clearly but they cannot hear me clearly and often say that it sounds like I am talking through a long tube or that my voice has some kind of metallic quality. However, when I plug my earphones in, it all works just fine. The call quality is generally fine in other locations.
I did wonder if this is something do to with the apple ambient noice cancelling system and some kind of interaction with it and the case that I am using but I have tested it with and without case and it makes no difference.
Any suggestions that you might have would be gratefully received.

I did they have know referred me to Apple!!!

  • IPhone 5 call quality

I just bought my iPhone 5. I was disappointed when I received a call and discovered the phone call quality on my end is bad. The other person's voice sounded very tiny and soft although I have already turned up the volume to maximum. Is it that way with all iPhone 5? The receiver could hear me clearly. I tried speaker and the person voice sounded much much clearer.
Please recommend suggestion to fix this or I have a defected phone?
    Thank you!

Actually, after examining my phone properly, i think that this problem might have been caused by the plastic cover that I have yet to remove as it looks like it is blocking the earpiece. ><
    My apologies.

  • IPhone 5S call quality / volume issue. Please help.

    Hi,
    Please can anyone help?
I have an iPhone 5S and callers frequently complain (9 out of 10) that the volume fades in and out and my voice sometimes sounds robotic, i.e. digital interference. I always hold the iPhone in the same manner as any other phone and this is the first handset where callers have made such complaints. Clearly, if the iPhone can't provide basic phone functions then it needs to be returned.
Another concern is that both sides of the conversation can easily be heard by others despite not using the speaker phone. On other
    Is my iPhone 5S faulty?
    Martyn

    Hi Allen,
Thanks for the reply.Unfortunately, that's not the problem.
The problem is that when I make or receive a call the other person will invariably complain that my voice seems to 'fade in and out'. Is this a hardware issue with the iPhone 5S? I believe the microphone may be faulty as the issue is not related to the distance I hold the iPhone 5S; I hold the iPhone 5S the same distance from my face as any other mobile telephone and have never had to apologise to clients of my business or make excuses for my telephone. My mobile telephone provider has agreed for me to return the iPhone as faulty and I need to ascertain whether this is a characteristic of the iPhone 5S or I was simply unlucky.
    Kind regards,
    Martyn

  • IPhone 4 call quality

So me and my partner upgraded our o2 contracts yesterday and got the iPhone 4.
We had iPhone 3GS' before that.
When talking to other people and hearing them through the ear piece, it was crystal clear. (With iPhone 3GS')
People used to comment on how good the sound of my voice was.
With the iPhone 4, when I hear my partner and he hears me, it is as if we are talking from far away or in a cave... It is no where near as clear as the iPhone 3GS.
When speaking to friends who are using a 3GS they sound clear but say we sound as if we are in a cave...
Is this the noice cancellation making our voices sound strange?
    Any ideas?

Signal strength is one thing but signal quality is something else, and is much more important with digitally-encoded communications transmissions.
As an example, in the old analogue TV days (now phasing out in favour of digital in the UK), if there was interference on the signal, all you got was a somewhat snowy picture and fuzzy sound while the interference persisted, but picture and sound nonetheless. Now with digital TV you will get picture freezes and no sound if there is interference that degrades signal quality (not signal strength).
With that in mind, and also seeing that GSM uses different transmissions from 3G, it may not be your iPhone that has a problem but it is more than likely the network and the specific conditions where you are when trying to make calls - unless, of course, the problem happens everywhere across a wide range of different environments in which case it is probably the phone that is at fault.
Assuming that you've checked coverage maps for your network operator then the next stop is complain to the network. After that, get your phone checked and replaced if necessary.
We are in a marginal 3G coverage area on O2 so the experience that you describe is very familiar to us.

  • IPhone 4 caller sound issue

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have been having with my iPhone in the last day or two.
I can hear sound and my microphone works, for example when a text comes through, music, calls ect i can hear as well as being able to ring people on the Skype app and know my microphone works then but when I am actually in an call itself, I cannot hear the other participant nor can they hear me, it is blank on both sides.
Does anyone know a fix for this problem so I can actually call people again? I have tried restarting, resetting and everything you would usually do for a problem but nothing.
    Thanks for the help, Tom.

Similar issue here since ios4.3.5 upgrade.
I can hear people, they can't hear me. Occurs whether I'm using phone hand-held, on speaker, or on bluetooth.
Mic works fine on services such as Skype and voicenotes etc.

  • Iphone 3g call quality

when I am talking to someone on my iphone 3g, if they speak up loud or a syllable is pronounced louder there voice distorts/crackles on my end. This happens no matter what the volume level is on the iphone and it happens in both handset and heaphones.
Anyone else having this problem? I did not notice this with my first generation iphone.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello from Italy,
same problem here. Audio crackling during call using headphones and phone speaker and :
    - it's not a high volume level problem
    - it's not a problem of headphone
    - it's not a problem of built-in speaker
I had this problem since day one. I think that's a carrier related problem that should be fixed with a firmware release.

  • Several issues - are they related?

I've been experiencing several issues with my new IMac, and I wonder if they are related.
First, the Adobe Flash plug in for Safari has been quitting unexpectedly. Then, Safari would start closing on its own. Finally, IPhoto also would suddenly quit.
This morning, I tried a manual update of software. It stopped about 3/4 of the way through with a message that the update may have been corrupted. It will try the install again the next time Updater runs.
I thought of putting these issues out there on their respective software forums, but I am guessing that they are all related since they all happened at the same time. Thank you, in advance, for any clues you can give to solving this mystery.

    Hi-
Please clarify- which iMac are you using? One of the new 27" or 21" iMacs? If not, what exactly?
First, the Adobe Flash plug in for Safari has been quitting unexpectedly. Then, Safari would start closing on its own. Finally, IPhoto also would suddenly quit.
What exactly is happening here? Is some flash playing, and then suddenly without any error message Safari quits? What website? All or just some (or random?)
Immediately after safari quits, iPhoto also quits? No error message- it just quits?
This morning, I tried a manual update of software. It stopped about 3/4 of the way through with a message that the update may have been corrupted. It will try the install again the next time Updater runs.
Please explain- exactly what do you mean by 'Manual Update of software?" Exactly what file did you download from Apple.com to do this manual update?
I thought of putting these issues out there on their respective software forums, but I am guessing that they are all related since they all happened at the same time. Thank you, in advance, for any clues you can give to solving this mystery.
There are a lot of variables going on here- maybe it is all related, or maybe not. We need to isolate some of these variables so we can troubleshoot in a systematic way.
