IPhone 5s can't receive non verizon text

I got my iphone 5s today but I can't receive text from non verizon users. I can send text to every on but not receive. I have turned off and I have reset phone 5 times. What can I do to receive text. My son is sick and needs to be able to text me.

tlfouch- Let's get all of your messages to work properly. Check your message settings and see if imessage is enabled. If so, disable it then power your device off and back on and have her retest. Also, you can find other troubleshooting tips for both devices with our troubleshooting assistant link: http://vz.to/12TLCsR

    Hey K1978,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are having cellular connection issues with your iPhone 5. The following troubleshooting assistant may help to resolve this issue:
Apple - Support - iPhone - Calls Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/calls/#section_1
For more in-depth troubleshooting, see the following article:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
Follow the instructions below for assistance with troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
    1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    2. Restart your iPhone.
    3. Ensure that your software is up to date:
              - Check for a Carrier Settings Update. Tap Settings > General > About.
              - Check for an iOS Software Update. Tap Settings > General > Software Update. Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
    4. Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
    5. If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
    6. Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrier to report the issue.
    7. Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    8. Restore the iPhone as new.
    9. Contact your carrier to:
              - Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
              - Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
              - Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • TS4268 iPhone users can no longer send me text messages now that i've moved to a non-iOS phone. Can iMessage service or Message users be refreshed to see me as a normal text message recipient?

iPhone users can no longer send me text messages now that i've moved to a non-iOS phone. Can iMessage service or Message users be refreshed to see me as a normal text message recipient?
I still have an iPhone, but haven't turned it on for weeks. And there's no SIM in it, so no cell service, just WiFi.  When I turn it on after a prolonged period of having it off (weeks), a bunch of messages popup that should have been forwarded to my new phone (same phone number and carrier as when I was an iPhone user) but appear to sit in iMessage queue indefinitely instead.
I'm guessing it has to do with the link that's made when an iPhone first realizes that it's talking to another iPhone and defaults, for all future texts, to iMessage.  You know, the green to blue switch.  How does that association get undone?
Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a fix?

your number can remain on the imessage server for some time

I have a connection in the top left hand corner and can access the internet with and without internet on my iphone 5c but I can't receive and create texts and calls, someone please help have tried everything!

YOu will need to contact your cell phone provider to resolve those issue, those are carrier features.

  • IPHONE 5: can't receive calls & random error messages, such as "could not activate cellular data network" and "no connection - network unavailable, please connect to wifi or cellular network."  This occurs even when signal strength or wifi is operational.

IPHONE 5:  can't receive calls and random error messages, such as "could not activate cellular data network" and "no connection - network unavailable, please connect to wifi or cellular network."  This occurs even when signal strength or wifi is operational, and it does not matter whether wifi is on or off.  ATT went through the standard protocol - resetting network, resetting sim card, etc.  No changes.  Other phones working fine in same region with same carrier.  Apple's solution is to restore software, but haven't gone there yet.  Anyone successfully addressed this/these issues?

I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

  • HT201320 I have an email account through yahoo. I am having trouble setting it upon my iPhone and can't receive or send emails!!!! I contacted Rogers and they said I need to find out the host name of the incoming server, in other words yahoos host name. H

I have an email account through yahoo. I am having trouble setting it upon my iPhone and can't receive or send emails!!!! I contacted Rogers and they said I need to find out the host name of the incoming server, in other words yahoos host name. Help!!

Yahoo's servers are notoriously unreliable. Use the "Yahoo" account type when setting it up. If it doesn't work, and you are positive the credentials are correct, wait a while and try again.
While you're waiting, set up a free gmail or iCloud email account.

  • New iphone can't receive or send text messages

I can't receive or send test messages. I tried turning airplane mode on and off. I also don't seem to have a data plan added to my service. I looked at my contract and it just shows family talk. I thought they automatically add this to iphone contracts.

It doesn't display an error message. It sends it out, but the recipient never receives it. I think the Best Buy person screwed up my service some how. She didn't sign me up for a data plan or a text message plan for this account. I was supposed to keep my same plan. It should still send texts though (at a higher non-text plan rate).

  • Straight Talk iPhone 5 can't receive calls/texts

iPhone 5 can't call/text or receive calls/texts. Straight talk is my carrier. I have had the phone since Christmas. It has worked perfectly all of this time. On June 27, I came home and the problems started. Can't call/text receive calls/texts. Can't get on the internet unless I connect to my router. Called straight talk and they rudely told me to just go outside when I wanted to make a call or text. Problems began to escalate. Phone wouldn't work outside my house or on my porch. It only works when I go very far from my house and even then it is testy. Now it won't connect to my router unless I'm right next to it. Called apple today and the support person had me update Network Settings. It worked! So excited, was able to make calls and text. Told the lady thank you and was thrilled that all seemed to be fixed. Set my phone down and came back to it in about five minutes. Guess what. It was having the same old problems again. Don't know what else to do. If I don't get any answers here. I suppose I'll call apple again. Hoping someone here is having the same problems and knows what is going on. Also, does anyone know what tower iPhone 5 uses with Straight Talk? I've heard it's Verizon, but I've also heard it's AT&T. Any help would be soooo much appreciated!

There might be another carrier fix.
    You can go to Settings>General>About
Wait a few seconds and if there is a new carrier push, a prompt will show asking to update carrier settings
Also you might want to check these out as well.

  • Iphone 4s-when wifi is off and I am away from my home connection can I receive and send texts and text messages?  I want to keep my wifi off to limit data (email etc) to when I want to check it.  Cellular is roaming"voice only" it says. Can I get texts?

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings?  Or check voicemail.  I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email.  But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts.  So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time.  (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home.  (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home?  My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home.  Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home?  Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages.  I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed?  So do I need wifi on to receive texts too?  Thank you - GregorySC

    Hello GregorySC,
In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages

  • Can't receive or send texts? please help!

every so often my text messages don't send and I can't receive them either. either the loading bar at the top takes forever or they dont send at all. • IPhone 4 Can't receive incoming calls and sms after 3G has been activated

I can't receive incoming calls and sms on my iPhone 4 after the 3G connection has been activated and used actively by me. Outgoing calls and messages do work and as long as I use the Wi-Fi connection everything's fine but the problem appears after switching to 3G. Any help? Thx in advance!

I think the next step is to do a reset by holding the sleep and home buttons down at the same time until the Apple logo appears.  If you haven't done this before, keep holding the buttons when the turn off slider appears.  The screen will go black and after what seems like an eternity, actually several seconds, the Apple logo will appear.  When the logo appears, release the buttons.
