IPhone 5s frozen during install of iOS 8.1.2 update

I have an iPhone 5s 16GB that has been installing the new iOS 8 update (8.1.2 I believe?).  After being prompted to install the update, I agreed to the terms & conditions and hit "install."  After seemingly flying through the first 9/10ths of the update, the progress bar under the Apple logo has not moved for a solid few hours now.  I have not had this problem with previous updates.  Is there any action that I should/can take without wiping everything from the phone?

For posterities sake, I had the same problem as originally described in this posting, except I was upgrading my iPhone 4s to iOS 8.1.2. After having the update status bar hang at >90% for ~30 minutes, I reset the phone (hold the on/off and home buttons down until the phone shuts off) and upon powering it back up it went back to the 'start update' screen and the subsequent retry of the 'update' completed with no issue in about 1 minute...

  • Iphone 5 freezing during install of IOS 8.1

After installing the IOS 8.0.1 it took two days for my Apps pending updates to process.  I turned my phone complete off twice before the updates finally started and completed.
I  also found not after conversation with a friend that I do not have the same new features.  For example when we were discussing the changes I discovered in Messages the global on the keyboard did not change to the emotion button to allow me to select emotions.  Also according to one of the tips under the new Tips App I do not have the . (period) button next to the space button to allow me to add .com to website address in a text.
I am reading apple stating the ios 8.0.1  is a problem with iphone 6 only.  Will the fix they are planning going to fix all issues for iPhone 5 as well?

I have similar problems with landscape mode, and when the silent button  turned on on iPhone 5 and a call comes in it hangs! also it hangs when texting, and when "Banners" or adds from "Free" apps are not turned off in notifications. the iPad, iPad air, iPhone 5, 4 all freeze up.
When this happens. you need to hold the home button down and the power button down until it reboots.
Then go to notifications and turn off all those horrible games, and apps that want to push adds and garbage that bothers you off.
Then close all of your safari open web pages.
Then close all those apps left open that you are not using.
Then if your not using bluetooth turn it off.
Make sure you have a backup of your entire phone in iTunes! AND then on the iCloud.
then go to the General tab and reset the entire thing, then restore your ape while on iTunes.
It seems to clear things up.
Apple is working 24/7 to fix this, it will be 100% fixed within two weeks.
It's not a pleasant experience, but hang in there when it is fixed as it will be, then your iPhone will be awesome .
I am truly sort for your frustration, it is felt by millions. Apple ALWAYS comes through! give them a week and try the above it should get you through the next week when there should be a fix.
Remember this is the first time in history for Apple that you got two completely new iPhones with complete new hardware, software, a New Mac OS, and a Iwatch and a pay system with new hardware. With that many items on the table things can't be perfect. They will be soon. We will all be saying, "I want the iPhone 7!! with the new holograph display and 1 tb memory and GPS calls not cellular and solar charging skin!
    Kind Regards,
    B

  • Frozen during installing updates unresponsive to any commands any ideas?

Screen frozen whilst installing updates unresponsive to any commands any ideas how to come out?

Turn the machine off by holding down the power key for 7-10 seconds. If the machine doesn't boot normally after that, call back.
Just curious - which updates were you installing? I've been having trouble with the Apple software update server for about 17 hours now.

  • IPhone 4S not recognized/charging after iOS 6.0.1 update

    Hi,
I've upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.0.1 when the updates became available on my handset and everything seems to work fine until I plugged it into my iMac for some late-night development with XCode. It wasn't recognized/charging at all. At first, I thought the connector cable was faulty, but using the provided Apple charger and the same cable, charging was working....
This morning, when arriving at work, I upgraded an iPhone 4 (the previous generation) to iOS 6.0.1 and plugged it into my work iMac: Same issue.
It seems that upgrading the iOS version to 6.0.1 disable synching/charging on my iMac.
    Verified on:
    - iPhone 4 + iMac 27in Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    - iPhone 4S + iMac 27in Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I have no iPhone 5 available yet, so I cannot verify it, but it seems that something is amiss.
    Beware of iOS 6.0.1!

    Let's do a little recap:
    - Do not detect in iTunes/XCode on my iMac Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (Both 4 and 4S)
    - Do not charge when plugged-in on my iMac Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (Both 4 and 4S)
    - Soft Reset from the phone does not work (Only tried on iPhone 4)
    - Hard-Reset from the phone does not work (Only tried on iPhone 4)
    - DFU Mode will not trigger the iTunes. (Only tried on iPhone 4)
Perhaps it is not widespread, but it is annoying. Especially when the iPhone 4 is my work phone and I need it to deploy/test my App before submitting to the App Store!

  • IPhone 4s will not install the 7.0.3 Software Update.

I have an iPhone 4s. It will not install the 7.0.3 Software Update (nor would it install the one prior). However, my friend who has the exact same phone, with at least double the pictures, and probably about 10 more apps, had no problem doing so, though she bought more storage anway and suggested I do the same. I bought the 10gb, for a total of 15 on my phone, deleted the few apps I had, and started to do backups to icloud.
Not only are my images missing from icloud when I log in (even though when I check the icloud settings in my phone they should be backing up), but I still have not been able to do the Software Update. When I go to 'Storage and Backup' in my phone it says 'Total Storage: 15.0 gb', and 'Available: 2.3 gb'. These numbers never seem to change, regardless of doing backups and deleting things.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    1. Why aren't my pictures there when I log in to icloud?
    2. Why can't I update my phone?
    Rhonda

Having more storage in your iCloud account does not expand the storage on your phone.  If you don't have enough free space on your phone to update, you'll have to delete some data to do so (such as deleting all your music, then syncing it back to your phone after you update).
Also, backing up your photos to iCloud only allows you to restore them to your phone later if you ever need to, it doesn't allow you to access the photos from iCloud.  It also doesn't give you more space on your phone as it only backs up your photos, it doesn't delete them from your phone.  If you want your photos in iCloud, turn on photo stream.  This will actually take more space on your phone, not less, as you will get a duplicate photo in your photo stream album to the one in your camera roll.
If your storage isn't increasing as you delete data from your phone, try deleting your iCloud backup and backing up again.

  • Why has my iphone 5 crashed after installing latest ios?

I attempted to update my iPhone 5 to the latest ios and its crashed leaving me with a frozen screen. How do I remedy this?

    Hi tutts1111,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing, and/or what exactly you are currently seeing. If your iPhone won't start up or respond, you may find the following article helpful:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on - Apple Support
On the other hand, if the frozen screen you are seeing is an icon screen directing you to connect to iTunes, or you are otherwise unable to update/restore your iPhone, then this article may be of more use:

  • IPhone 4 Freezes during WiFi use (iOS 6)

    Hi,
Every time I use WiFi on the iPhone it freezes. It connects normally, loads the app (mostly facebook, I have to check some messages) and then the screen freezes. It doesn't respond on on touch commands. I can lock it, press the home button and exit the app, but the screen is still frozen. I am not able to close the app and turn off WiFi. I have to wait a few minutes, every time the amount of time is different, and then I can use the phone for a few seconds and manage to close the app and turn off WiFi. After that the phone works normally. One time I wasn't able to even unlock the phone for 30 minutes so I had to walk away of the location and lose the connection to be able to unlock and use the phone. I don't know if it's only a WiFi problem or are some apps the problem, because I mostly run some apps during WiFi use.
Is anybody familiar with this kind of behaviour? Does somebody know how could I fix this and is it a hardware or, hopefully, a software problem?
    Thanks in advance.

I was only able to restore the phone after booting into Windows and using the Windows version of iTunes. Kinda pathetic.

  • I cannot use my safari because it is frozen, so when the IOS 7.0.5 update has come, I immediately update my iphone 5s. The problem now, is it is stuck on the apple logo. What do I need to do to fix this?

For the safari, it is just a blank white page everytime I open it.

did you find out? i also have this disastrous issue!!

  • Iphone 3GS gets -1 error on iOS 6.0.1 update??

    Hello everyone!
I have a iphone 3GS (fully legit, no jailbreaks, no funny business) and decided to upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 (or the lastest version of 6). Everything went fine and dandy until the update reached the "restoring firmware on the iPhone" stage... Both the itunes and the iphone's progress bars were full and stood there being full for over 15 minutes, until the software decided to present me with an error box!
I got a -1 error and the description was that my hardware was faulty or damaged (or something). That came as a surprise to me, since my hardware was fine just before I started this nonsense... So, I surfed the web, looked at forum posts, tried a couple of things (tinyUmbrella, different OS) and so far no luck, now my phone is stuck on a recovery cycle and everytime I get the same error.
    I have tried:
    -Updating iTunes
    -Rebooting
    -Different OS
-TinyUmbrella (to force out of recovery)
    -Restarting the phone on DFU
    -Restarting the phone without DFU
-Doing the update over and over
-Checked for any "third-party" software that might offend iTunes (nothing, all pure and proper for OSX so far)
    Nothing worked/improved the situation.
    I'm tempted to try:
-Banging the phone against the wall
    -Screaming at it
-Putting it away forever and just use my Nexus S full-time
    -Calling a Vodoo Doctor
    -Calling a Wiccan
    -Calling the Ghostbusters
Most of these would ease my pain for sure! If only android had a nifty app to follow the stock market and a handy-dandy "notes" app...oh wait...
...I guess stunts like this might explain why the market share just won't grow now won't they Apple?? I mean common, this takes the concept of "full system upgrade" a bit too far!
Seriously now, at this point I'm considering to take this hunk of not-so-good apple hardware to my local "handy-fixEverything-techGuy" or even to an Apple Store to ask a quote for a hardware repair...Or just to make a big fuss about how the phone was working well before this very nice system update and now it's a paperweight with touchscreen! However I fear that it will be rather pointless, since I'm not willing to pay more than $50 to get whatever this might have broken fixed, and they will ask me for more than that. I might give it a shot anyway...
So, any ideas? Did overlook any potential solution or cause for my problem?
All input is welcome and thanks in advance for reading.

I believe that all iPhones, purchased in Egypt, from official sources, are sold as carrier locked. So, your phone was hacked by someone so you could use it in Germany. Sorry, but that's what happens to hacked iPhones.
No one here can help you, nor can/will Apple, and since none of the carriers in Egypt offer official unlocking, your choices are not good.
