IPhone 5s - Lightning 30 pin 0.2m Apple official adapter is not Woking.

Question

I have the smaller block type adapter and that works fine and everything works without error. I've just bought the 0.2m extended cable, as I need the extra flexibility and length. However it won't work and just comes up with the following message:  "! This accessory is not supported by this device." It will charge the phone, however won't send sound out etc. I've also tried it with my wife's 5s and it's the same story. The small block one she bought works fine, but the cable one doesn't!!!! To say I'm not impressed is an understatement!
Has anyone else had the same issue?
Is it a faulty cable or have Apple just scored yet another home goal in their greedy quest to capitalise on its faithful followers?!

Exact same problem.
Bought the 0.2m adaptor from John Lewis store and straight out of the box simply plugging in the lightning cable into my new 5s I got the 'device not supported' message onscreen.
Was a little bit surprised that a 30 pin adaptor from apple that is not supported?!?
Def' a genuine apple product I bought and when I returned it and spoke with the apple rep who was working in the store he tried the adaptor in his own phone and was a bit stuck for words as same problem, he then tried another couple and same issue, so def' an issue with the 0.2m cable adaptor it would seem.
I've now bought the 30 pin to 8 pin adaptor but the 2 phone cases I own and my wife's are not designed to accomodate an adaptor as wide as apple have made it. So it's being returned.
The 0.2m adaptor is perfect for my needs if only they could sort out the lighning connector incompatability with their own ios7.
