IPhone 5S not receiving texts and pictures from Android without data on
I have a 4 month old iPhone 5S and for some reason I'm not able to receive texts and photos from my friends who have Android phones. The only time I receive them is when I turn my data on. I have a very limited data plan and I would prefer to only turn it on in the case of an emergency, not to receive texts from friends. As of now, it seems that my phone is perfectly able to send texts to them, I just can't receive them.

Wifi: my Cell phone will remember 10 wifi connections. So delete any you don't use often and your home wifi and try to enter home wifi again.
if it still won't connect to home wifi, call your internet provider for help. You may need a newer router or different settings Or upgraded service. Your phone seeks the best connection and will refuse lesser connections.
last resort. Backup the phone. Do a full reset, then restore as new with the backup.
if still not fixed, go back to apple and insist on repair or replacement.
HOWEVER. voicemail is not a wifi issue, it's a carrier function, which is why the SIM card is a suspect. -

When I add a person in io6 their email is only displayed not their name and picture from my contacts that the email is associated with, why?
The whole idea to an icloud account is that one user uses it and has all their devices synced together. Different users need different Apple IDs to create their own icloud accounts. Note that everyone can still use the same ID for an iTunes account (to share purchases).

I have a new IPhone5c and do not receive texts or calls sent from my daughter's phone; I'll call this phone 2. We did not have this problem with my old Envy Touch. Verizon is our provider. Can you troubleshoot? My other daughter has a new IPhone5c too. She receives calls and texts from sent from phone 2. Any tips for remedying this problem?
Thank you.Turn off iMessage in your phones settings. Apple devices can only use iMessage to other Apple devices.
Turning off iMessage will allow the messages to go as regular text messages. -
I got an iPhone 5c about a month ago. It's my first smart phone, and it's been giving me issues for a while.
During the first week or so of using it, I was able to receive iMessages as SMS messages, even when I had data turned off and was not connected to wifi. Now, however, I can send texts but I can't receive them unless I'm connected to wifi. This only seems to be a problem with other iPhones. Family members with non-Apple devices can text me when I don't have an internet connection, but I only get the messages from other iPhones when I'm back in a place that has wifi. I turned off data because the phone was using it even when I wasn't doing anything, and I'd rather not keep it on all of the time because of that.
I called Verizon support, and the suggestion was to just turn iMessage off because "it's hard for the phone to switch between Apple and Verizon's servers." I've looked everywhere online for answers, and most everything just suggests either wiping the phone or that texting simply doesn't work without data. I've had a few phones over the years, none of which had any sort of data plan, and I was always able to send and receive text messages.
What should I do about this? At this point I'm honestly just frustrated and considering going back to a regular data-less phone.I was under the impression that SMS messages do not need cellular data in order to be sent and received. I know they don't use much data, the problem is everything else that seems to use data in the background.
I set it to just go through my phone number as you suggested, so maybe that will help. Thanks! -
IPhone 4 not receiving texts off wifi
Not sure what is going on with texts (specifically iMessages from other peoples' iDevices) not getting to me sent as iMessages, nor texts until my phone is back at home and on wifi? I thought iMessages were supposed to work over cellular data as well?
I've tried figuring this one out from the troubleshooting guides. My phone is set up to send and receive iMessages as well as SMS at my phone number. I can send texts even if I completely turn iMessages off. It's just not receiving texts from people that are on wifi, when I'm off of it... until I get on it, by which time it's usually too late, and I get angry reprimands. Don't feel like getting fired over something like this, just because my phone is messing up and my boss can't get a hold of me...Hi there petra1685,

IPhone 4 not receiving texts correctly?
I got an iPhone recently this week on Tesco Mobile (basically o2), and I've been noticing an issue. Texts aren't coming through right. Sometimes they come through fine within a matter of seconds of the sender sending them, but more often than not I won't receive any messages unless I switch my phone on and off, in and out of aeroplane mode, text someone or call/am called by someone. It's seriously weird, and very annoying.
At a guess I would assume this is an issue with the handset. Perhaps it is not refreshing the network signal? That would explain why any activity that requires a refresh/use of the signal allows me to suddenly receive texts for a short while again.... It's also worth mentioning I've tried a hard reset already. No change. I'm not really open to the idea of restoring because that's a pain.Well it seems the problem is focused only where I live, so I'm guessing it may just be an issue with the nearby cell tower. Planning on giving Tesco a bell and I'll see what they say, I guess.

Ive got a 4S on contract with three, it was stolen about a month ago, Ive bought a new one online and got a new sim card, but now i cant receive Texts? there is an ecxplenation mark in thought cloud by the battery level? everything else is fine though? Any way of fixing this?
Sorry. That was the only thing I could think of. You might as well try resetting the phone by holding the Home and end buttons until the silve apple appears. It won't hurt and it might help.

How do I stop my texts and pictures from going to other devices with same Apple ID
I share my Apple ID with my son on his Ipad and I phone. how do I stop my photos and messages from automatically going to his devices.
It should be iMessages which are going from device to device, you can turn this off in recipient device. The same sort of thing for Photos, however on your phone/ipad you can turn off 'Photo Stream" which will stop the sending to other devices. You can do this under Settings>Photos & Camera.

Hi!!! My family is going on a cruise this summer. I do not want to but any internet plan on board or through verizon, as it can get quite costly with
two teenage daughters. But, we will be using our phone cameras. How do I block calls and texts, yet still use the camera? And does blocking them still result in no charges..roaming, international, on board, etc.? Thanks for all advice and answers!!!Another option you may have is to temporarily suspend service...that would guarantee you won't have any charges for unexpected texts/calls. Might be a little more extreme then you want to do though. Contact VZW for more details on that option if interested. I would echo the idea of just using a camera versus your iPhone unless for some reason you don't own an actual point and shoot camera. You can easily put the pics on your iPhone when you return home from your trip if that is the reason you were really wanting to use the iPhone for picture taking.

IMessage not receiving texts with pictures attached
When someone sends me a text I get it no problem on iPhone and iPad. When they send it with a pic, it only comes in on iPhone. I can successfully send a text with a pic from iPad, just cannot receive? Any ideas?
If you have MMS enabled on your iPhone, you need to contact your carrier since MMS are exchanged over your carrier's cellular network only.

Switched from iphone to galaxy - now not receiving texts from iphone users
Switched from iphone to galaxy for multiple reasons. Still keeping my iPad and wanted to use my iphone for music. Now I am not receiving texts, apparently imessages, from iphone users - there is no notification either way that a message was not received. So iphone users think I have received a text when I haven't. This makes me angry with Apple as there have been medical issues in our family and I have not been receiving important communication. I also have clients I have not received texts from. My understanding is I will have to delete my iphone from my apple account completely, but then will not be able to use it at all for itunes or anything else.
If you still have the iPhone, go to Settings and turn off iMessage. If you don't have the phone or if that doesn't solve the problem, contact Apple Support and request that they deactivate iMessage. https://www.apple.com/support/appleid/contact/
