Recovery mode doesn't mean that all your data is already lost. You only lose your data if you restore it.
When you plug the phone is into iTunes hold down the home button. iTunes may then give you the option JUST to update the software first. This should not get rid of any data.
However, if iTunes is only giving you the option to RESTORE and update, then you will lose your data I'm afraid.

Do a reset to factory default with your iTunes program. Always make sure you do your backups first. And after you do that you'll also get the NEW revision today with the bug fixes ... iOS 8.1!

MacBook Pro slower than iMac wifi

My MacBook Pro (2 yrs old), is MUCH slower on our wifi network, than my imac (5 yrs old).
The MBP is actually closer to the router, and when I run speedtest.net, the imac is showing better/faster results than the MBP.
Any ideas would be great.

The operating systems are the same, as well as browsers. This has been going on for some time now. I notice it especially when updating software, like iphone, from the Apple servers via itunes or app store.
Regular web browsing with Safari is also much slower on the MBP. I usually have it connected to the power cord too, so that's probably not it. any other ideas?

No one I know, that has a 3GS, has experienced any "slow down" problems, nor am I aware of any such widespread problems. If there were, this forum would be flooded with posts attesting to such...it is not. Millions of this units were sold & the vast majority of users have zero issues.
Everytime Apple updates the iOS, reports surface of floods, people going bald, their pets run away, their house burn down, etc., etc. Been like this since the first iOS update. Widespread? No.

Hub 5 wifi speed is much slower than 4 with iPhone...

I've noticed that while I used to get 50Mbps over WiFi on my iPhone 5 and iPad (which is my broadband speed), since 'upgrading' to the Hub 5 I can now only get about 12Mbps, whether I connect to the 2.4Ghz channel or the 2.5Ghz channel. I'm testing via the SpeedTest app which is normally pretty reliable. My laptop (not an Apple) can get 45Mb over the 2.4Ghz channel, so it seems that both channels perform pretty badly when used with Apple devices!
I've tried changing the channel, changing the mode etc, but it just seems the Hub 5 doesn't have anything like the WiFi performance of the Hub 4. Is anyone else seeing this or able to veriify this problem exists on their own Hub 5?

A firmware upgrade (7.5.1) was available this morning, and this solved the problem of speed. I can now download up to 450Mb/sec with the 5GHz. Video lag problem apparently was solved too. I can now watch video streaming from another computer very smoothly.
I think the problem remaining is on the range. The 5GHz is non-visible outside this 50 square feet room. I had a Linksys WRT610N dual brand router before. Its 5GHz was much stronger.

No... it is not true. Updating to 5.1.1 or any version of iOS for that matter does not disable Wi-Fi.
That being said, issues can occur with any update.
Just curious, why would you buy a device that was released over 2yrs ago? Especially considering it's only a matter of time (months) until the next generation iPhone is released?
If you buy a "new" 3GS it will come with 5.1.1 installed.

You didn't say what you have already tried, but if you haven't already done so, power-cycle your router (unplug it for 15 seconds then plug it back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, then try joining your wifi again.

Bought my 1st iPhone today (4S) Just started using for less than 5 minutes and it has a voice command that talks on Everything and the pages wont scroll up and down and cant change screens from the page it boots on. Wrong apps open when I open an app...

So I bought my wife our 1st iPhone 4S today w/ Verizon. I booted it up and it started having a voice repeat every command, and function (no, its not Siri).
BTW... Siri doesn't work, I can't scroll in the settings, when I open an app it actually opens the wrong app, and I can't find a way do fix any of it. I tried a hard boot by holding down the power button and the button on the lower midddle of the phone. When it rebooted, it got worse. Now what?

I have 2 I.d.'s because I my daughter was on my first account and I was getting all her text messages and it was messing up us both because I would get her stuff and she would get mine. I use my phone for personal use and work. I needed one separate account so my personal things stood personal. I'm sure there was a way to stop it but I'm always so busy working that I didn't have time and having another account was the easiest and least time consuming way.

Apple employees will not see your complaints here. And you never get a response from the Feedback link. However, if you think that this issue is widespread, then providing that feedback to Apple should just add to the millions of other people who are complaining about this issue. The more people who provide feedback the more likely the issue will be resolved.
BTW - the majority of users are not having issues with iOS 8.1.3. What you see on these threads and on the internet are people who are having issues. If you think that represents the majority of iDevice users, then you are going to get a very skewed perspective.

it's either ATT or Apple and not just your phone. alot of us have the same problem. i'll suggest the same thing i've said to someone else...
if they haven't fixed this by your next billing cycle... tell them they can deduct the $30 data cost from your bill until they've resolved it or you're not paying.
Apple and ATT are making a killing on these phones, and they will try to avoid reembursing for services they are not providing. let them know that if they want to see $$$ they need to provides the services listed under the contract.

Wifi Slower than 3g

I have noticed that when I am on wifi the internet is slower than when I am using my data connection. That really shouldn't be the case I would think. I am new to iphone so maybe I need to change a setting or something. Any ideas?

Does your router have settings about QoS. One has to remember WiFi standards actually had to add some stuff after the fact to deal with streaming media as it became more popular. Not all wireless packets are treated the same and not all routers work good with streaming data. Mix that in with an iPhone (yes great processor but still limited to a full bore computer).
Cellular signals work different.
So, it could just be your router not dealing well with streaming media (QoS quality of service, which is related to standards and packet info when streaming as well as other stuff) mixed with your iPhone. My YouTube works far better when on my WiFi than not.
