IPhone 5s selling scam

Me and some of my friends bought new iphone 5s's from local electronic store in Kuwait and after opening the binding and unboxing, we turned iphone power ON and we were surpurised the iphone was ready to use with out going through the activation phases and settings or asking us to insert the SIM card .
After that we went to Apple site to check the service and support coverage and entering the IMEI number for the iphone we were surpurised the warranty expiration date ended less than one year from the date we purchased the iPhone approximately eleven months !!!
We live in Kuwait and there is no Apple store or offices that we can get the right service or support!
We need your advice how do we know the iphone is new or used and have been repackaged again as it's new before we buy it??

Are you saying the phone was originally purchased 11 months ago? It was only introduced in September.

Be sure your photos and any other important data/media/pictures
are backed up - iCloud, DropBox, some service of your choice.
If your only copy is on the iPhone and the iPhone is lost/stolen/broken,
you lose your photos, etc.

Just got a new iPhone 6, selling my 5 to Amazon. Trying to follow Apple instructions to erase content before sending but 5 will not connect to iCloud so I can't proceed - when promoted to enter password I keep getting "Verification failed. There was an error connecting to iCloud". I have checked apple id/password multiple times and they are correct. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance

HFJ,
every once in a while my iPhone 5 fails to recognize my Apple ID. I don't have to go all the way to Restore to Factory Settings, I just have to turn off the phone. (Hold down top button until screen asks to slide if you want to turn it off.) Give it a few seconds, turn it on again.

• I got text messages from iCloudreport regarding my lost iphone , are they scams?

I lost my iphone two month ago and I got a lot of emails from "Find my iphone" saying that my phone has been found in at least three other different countries. Today I received a text message from a unknown phone number saying that: "Find my iphone service: your iphone 6 64Gb Gray lost/stolen has been found. You can reclaim it now at: https://icloudreport.com/?imk=3544070.....(8 more numbers)...., Apple Inc. " I clicked the link, it led me to this address"http://icloudreport.com" it looks the same as icloud home page. I feel this is suspicious because I really did not put any hope on my lost iphone been found. Is this a scam?
I then rechecked the emails that I received in the past and I found that some early emails I received are from "[email protected]". The link in this email direct me to "losticloud.com" while the most recent emails are from "[email protected]" and the link in this email direct me to "icloudreport.com" (which is the same as that in the text message). Is any of the email I got is scam? I remembered I did login through the emails so I'm a little worried.

It's all fake. If you had set up 'Find My iPhone' you could find the phone yourself, provided it's on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network. If you didn't set it up you can't locate the phone and neither can anyone else. The emails are phishing, trying to con you into giving away your login.

• How to delete the files from iPhone before selling?

How do I delete the files from my old iPhone4 before selling?

Hey adhot,
Before selling your iPhone, you'll want to follow these directions:
Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you have removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:
Back up your device.
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
If you are using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner.
When the device is turned on for the first time by the new owner, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
Important: Do not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your iCloud devices.

• Verizon iphone trade-in scam!?

I was surprised and infuriated this morning to receive an email acknowledging the receipt of my iphone 5 (appraised for $200 per Verizon's survey questions), and that I would be receiving a credit for $36!!!??? When I checked the reason for this, it states that the "phone won't power on." THIS IS ABSURD. I used this phone up until the DAY I sent it back... I followed their instructions EXPLICITLY... I even charged the phone before sending it back. I took them WEEKS to acknowledge it was received and process it (no wonder it wouldn't turn on - battery is dead!), and now I am getting scammed out of the value of the phone? I immediately called the direct number for the trade-in department, where I was told I couldn't be assisted at that time, was told my complaint would be escalated and I should hear back within 7-10 business days. I was provided a contact email for support and emailed them immediately with the details of my complaint - haven't heard anything back. I am shocked by how this program is being handled... after reading other posts on line, it seems I am definitely not the only one. I am requesting a credit for the FULL amount the device was appraised for, since there are NO defects or issues with it OR for my device to be mailed back to me IMMEDIATELY. This has been a HORRIBLE experience and I have been a loyal customer for years... very disappointed.

happygojessie, It's surely not our intention to have you feel scammed in any way! Our Trade In http://bit.ly/GGnDDC team would be the best avenue to review the cause and provide details and options for the decrease in value for you appraised device. I'm glad that you were promised a contact back within 7 - 10 days. I'm confident this team will be able to fully resolve your concerns.

• Iphone hacked by scam emails?

A few days ago while I was looking for a job I sent an email (from my mail app in my iphone 4S) to someone who was seeking a babysitter. I received a reply from the person from another email address asking my a bunch of questions (which didn't look right to me since i've done this before) so I checked to see the senders name and email and searched it online and it happens that it was a scam job post, well since then every now and then when i open my mail app the screen (sort of like a contact window which on top says sender and Linda Walker with an email ) pops open and closes in like a second, I can't do anything because it changes/closes screen alone so fast and it only happens when i click on the mail app to open it. I created a new email account and deleted the other one and it still happens. Why??? Is it possible my phone is hacked? How can i know? I haven't done anything to my iphone like jailbreak or however its called or charged my iphone in any public place or my wifi is disconnected, also my phone is software is updated. Please help!!! Im afraid to even check my bank account in my iphone because of that.
<Email Edited by Host>

No, it is not possible your phone is hacked from an email.
It's most likely a mal-formed email that causes Mail to crash.
Log in to your email account on a computer via webmail, delete the offending email(s) and it should clear the problem.
There was no point in creating a new email account.

• Purchased Iphone 3G, selling Iphone 2g. One question

bought and synched iphone 3g. I want to sell my iPhone 2g but want to restore to factory settings. Is this going to affect me in any way once I connect the iPhone 2g via iTunes since my computer already recognizes my 3g?thanks

No, iTunes will treat them as separate devices.
FYI, depending on what you have stored on there, a Restore in iTunes is not a secure delete. If you are running v2.x on the original iPhone, selecting Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings will securely erase the iPhone (takes a couple of hours).

Apple should take resonsibility for this, otherwise they will lose lots of loyal customers. I have moved away from the ipad due to expense and am now very tempted to do so away from the iphone. Selling a product that prompts an update that breaks the phone is not good.

Have had the same issues with iPhone 4S since the upgrade. No wifi button, battery draining every 8 hours with no use, phone shutting on & off for no reason at all. I gave in and tried the hair dryer method. Turned the phone off and hel d the dryer over the camera lense area for one minute. Turned the phone back on and to my shock, had wifi button back again. That was 2 days ago. Battery is lasting normal amount of time again and I can use wifi again! Hopefully this will last. I know it doesn't work for everyone but it doesn't hurt to try. Much better than spending the $200 at the Apple store, which by the way, the genius said Apple is aware of the problems but there is nothing they can do.

Having the same issue: iOS 7.0.2 with no WiFi / poor Battery stamina and really slow software experience when opening several options at Settings icon.
Apple care agent contacted me and we try all alternatives to isolate and detect if this is regarding a hardware problem. Of course they told me it is. Too sad. My phone is in immaculate condition.
My mother has an Iphone, my father has an Iphone, my 2 sisters have Iphones, my brother, wife and daugther... we all have Iphones. Mine's the only one with this fault (my personal experience: fail prob is 12,5% -1 out of 8).
At this point, I'm evaluating to stop buying apple products for fear that in the future the same will happen with some "premium" product that ultimately they are not.
Too sad, sorry but this is too much.

I got my 4s in August 2012, as an upgrade on my Vodafone contract Following the installation of IOS 7 I also experienced greying out of wifi and bluetooth. I tried various options suggested on forums however none worked. I took my phone to Vodafone who told me it was a problem they were aware of but couldn't do anything about as Apple had to deal with it. I took it to my nearest Apple store (60 miles round trip!) to be told it was not their responsibility, it was Vodafone's - something to do with consumer law! They also said I would have to pay £160 for a replacement phone as it couldn't be repaired. The 'Genius' was very cagey about it being a common problem by the way!! Back to Vodafone who said it was not their responsibility so back to Apple. This time I spoke with a Manager who told me in not so many words that it was an issue and agreed to halve the replacement cost of £160 to £80. By this time I just wanted it sorted to reluctantly paid £80 for a replacment phone. Seeing as this is CLEARLY a design fault, Apple should have replaced it free of charge. This experience just confirms what I am reading in lots of places about the Apple Company. I was going to buy an iPad but have decided not to now. I shall NOT be replacing the iphone when my contract is up. I too will be writing to BBC Watchdog.

You will probably be told that the solution is a replacement phone. Ask to speak to a Manager and insist on getting it at a lower price. I did this and got it at 50% of the usual repacement cost. Still not ideal but at least it saves you a bit of the money you shouldn't have to pay in the first place!

4s owner in the same boat as everyone else.
I setup a service call with apple on Monday this week and was told it's quite a common hardware failure. When I asked why I should be paying for a new phone I was advised to book an appointment in store. Well I've just returned from my appointment with a "genius" who told me that when the update is installing if any component is weak when installing it will be permanently disabled. Was then told £150 for a new phone which I declined.
I've had iPhones for 4 years now but due to this issue and apple washing their hands of any responsibility it will be my last.
Disappointed that a premium product has such poor backup from the manufacturer. If it was only my phone and not thousands of others I'd have probably paid for a new phone but I'll never give apple another penny again.

• US iPhone to be used in the UK

Hi
I have a US iphone which I plan to cancel with AT&T and then hopefully use in the UK with a new O2 sim card.
Would this work? or would I be better off selling my iPhone on ebay first and then purchasing a new phone in the UK?

Note that ATT does have a policy that if you are moving overseas and can not see out your two-year contract, they will cancel it out for you with proof of new residency in another country.
You will need to eBay or Craigslist your iPhone here in the states, then buy a new one with a new contract with O2 in the UK.
Currently, lightly used iPHones are selling for about 350.00 on eBay if they are in excellent shape with all original materials -- less if there are any scratches or damage or missing materials.
You can get a bit more if you have purchased Apple Care - as that is transferable to the future buyer and gives them assurance their battery will be covered for a longer period of time. Apple Care is attached to the serial number of the iPhone, not the owner of the iPhone.
With Apple Care, you can probably get about 370 for the iPhone on eBay.
Your quickest way of selling your iPhone is to list it as a Buy It Now option instead of entertaining bids. In perfect condition at 350.00 it will sell in less than a few hours.

• Playback with iphone??

I bought an iphone and selling my ipod basically because I don't need the ipod anymore because of the phone. But the problem I have is when I connect it to my car stereo nothing happens. I have an aux ouput on the front panel of my radio which is where I used to connect my ipod and it works fine. I am using the same cable, but when I put in the iphone it seem like it just have a little slack or its not going in that far. I see that on my phone the jack plug is a little deeper for connection, is there a longer adapter that I can buy?

You will need this adapter to get the plug to fit properly

• IPhone "Dead Strip"... and what to do now?

Hey there,
My first generation, Edge iPhone has a "dead strip." Basically, the horizontal row where the "7" "8" and "9" appear on the "Enter Passcode" screen no longer recognizes any touching. Any at all. Honestly, thank God that my passcode doesn't use any of those numbers... If not I wouldn't even be able to log in.
I first noticed the lack of touch recognition about 2 months ago, but the "dead strip" wasn't as tall as it is now. "Tall" being the height of the strip... it's "width" always encompassed the entire horizontal rule of the iPhone's screen, and still does. I noticed it when scrolling web pages, since when my finger got to the old, less tall strip the web page would stop scrolling (thinking I had lifted my finger, I suppose). It wasn't that bothersome... until the strip just kept getting larger ("taller"). The "dead strip" has kept growing in size.
Now that the strip has grown to a large "dead strip," I can no longer write anything with my iPhone's keyboard. It renders e-mail, web and text useless (not to mention any application, etc. that has input buttons placed in said "dead strip"). I've even tried getting around the e-mail problem with EasyWriter, and have had good results. EasyWriter gives one the ability to craft an e-mail with its application... using a horizontal keyboard. So, unlike with the default iPhone e-mail program where I'm stuck not being able to touch certain letters, EasyWriter allows me to keep rotating the display until the letter I want is in a non-"dead strip" location. It works... but, boy, is it tedious and time consuming. Though EasyWriter still does nothing for web and text input issues. Not EasyWriter's fault, just saying that I can't use it as a work-around to the "dead strip."
I took my iPhone to the Apple store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue last week and all they could say was "out of warranty... refurbish for $199." My iPhone has zero physical damage, so I'm pretty ticked... but I understand that nothing can be warranted forever. (But I bought mine on launch day, so I personally think that less than 1.5 years is pathetic to not warrant, however. This is about quality of manufacturing, in my opinion.)
My question to the forum is this: is there still a market for first generation, Edge iPhones? I thought I'd read that as a resale... they were more preferable than the 3G iPhones.
Thea reason I ask is that since it's "out of warranty" I can either get a refurbished first generation, Edge iPhone for $199 or upgrade to a 3G for $199... though that 3G's phone plan would cost me $15/month more as well (keeping the same wireless/text plan that I have now).
If I go the refurbished, first generation, Edge route (for monthly pricing reasons)... will I be able to resell it at some point in the near future, when I am ready to upgrade to a 3G? Are the first generation, Edge iPhones still selling online for more than the $199 it would cost me?
Or... even better, is there anything which I can make a case for, that would just have Apple swap it out for me? This would be the best route, since I literally have treated this thing gallantly and in a case for its entire existence. So, to me it's bad craftsmanship that has brought this on.
Thanks

Tamara,
Thank you for the feedback. Do people actually buy iPhones with "dead strips?" On second thought, since I could use it as a second Sonos controller, I'd like to get it fixed after I purchase a new iPhone. Can you steer me in the right direction, to get it fixed? Website(s)?
And as a small side note, AppleCare wasn't available on launch-day purchased iPhones until some months afterwards... so, by the time that it came out, I wasn't mindful of remembering to go and get it.
Thanks again
