IPhone 5S with iOS 8.0.2 battery draining rapidly

I have an iPhone 5S with 8.0.2 recently installed on it.  Normally, I can go a whole day and have the battery around 50 - 60% when I put it back to charge it at night.  However, lately, the battery has been draining so fast that it doesn't last an entire day anymore.  My usage has not changed.  If I look up the battery drainage for the last 4 hours, the major players are Mail (28%), Home & Lock Screen (17%), and Facebook (13%).  For the last 4 days, it has been Mail (41%), Home & Lock Screen (15%), and Safari and Facebook (11% each).
I had this problem with iOS 7.1.2, and I took it in to the Apple store and was instructed to delete and install Facebook again.  I did this, and it didn't help.  I then restored the phone and re-installed the back up.  That worked until about a week after I installed iOS 8.  I tried upgrading to 8.0.2, and the drain was faster if it changed at all.  I tried restoring from the backup again, and this time it didn't help.  My last option would be to restore as a new phone, but I'd like to avoid this if possible.  It would take more time than I really want to spend on it.
My background refresh apps are limited to just a few.  I also have the Mail program set not to notify me unless I get a message from a certain account or a VIP.  I also limit what can use location services.  Also, since mail was consuming the battery, I tried to decrease the frequency of retrieval, and even changed it to manual.  Neither option helped the battery life.
I wonder if something is wrong in the OS that is causing this. Does anyone have an idea?

Hey David Ancell,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. You have already taken all of the most applicable steps: optimizing your settings, viewing which apps are using energy, and configuring your notifications. Because restoring the back up of your iPhone may restore the culprit causing these symptoms, restoring as new is your best option for isolation purposes:

After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.

  • IPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.2 Battery Drains FAST!

My iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.2 the battery drains tremendously fast! This morning it was 100% charged then just by surfing facebook and flipboard with 3G, it became 7% in the noon. I hope Apple can solve this problem! I'm very upset right now

I've pretty much proved to myself that this is a bug in 7.0.2.  Since my post a few days ago I have:
Done a full restore of my iPhone with 7.0.2 - problem still persisted - draining battery at approx 23%/hour with no use, and with all the battery saving tips applied (no push notifications, no background updating etc).
Restored iPhone with 7.0 - battery drain dropped to approx 5%/hour with no use and battery saving tips applied.  With push notifications & background updating turned back on, battery drain increased to approx 12%/hour which is high, but still significantly better than 7.0.2.
I would recomend everyone who is having this problem with 7.0.2 to lodge a bug report with Apple - www.apple.com/feedback - hopefully if enough of us lodge the bug report, Apple will listen and release an update.
As for downgrading, unfortunately we cannot downgrade to 6.x anymore, but you can downgrade to 7.0.  It is a matter of downloading the appropriate firmware. Firmware's are available here - http://www.icj.me/ios - although that site lists 6.x, they will no longer work, so get the 7.0. That site redirects you to Apple's server for the appropriate ROM, so they are legitimate. Before you install it, you have to turn "Find My iPhone" off by going to Settings | Privacy | Location Services | Find iPhone.  The installation seems to turn it back on when done, but you should probably check.  Once the firmware has downloaded, you can install it on your device by going to iTunes, and holding down the option key while clicking Restore.  This is on Mac - on Windows I assume you would press Alt (but if that doesn't work, try Ctl or Shift).  If you have pressed the right button on your keyboard, a file browser window will appear, allowing you to choose the firmware that you just downloaded.
Once installation is complete, iTunes will tell you that there is an update available for your iPhone, just click "Later" everytime the warning appears.

  • Overnight, my iPhone 4 has become slooooow and the battery drains rapidly.

My update to iOS 5 went smoothly and for several days everything was great.  48 hours ago I began noticing a distinct lag when trying to open apps -- I tap on the mail icon, for example, and get a blank screen for several seconds before the queue loads.  Same with other apps -- a blank screen, then finally the screen fills.  At the same time this occurred, my battery began draining quickly.  Went to bed with 100%, nothing running, and the next morning by 9 or so it was at 20%.  Only thing that I did with the phone during that 10-hour period was check Weatherbug a time or two, and listen to an audio podcast on the way to work.  Does this sound familiar to anyone?  Could it be connected to the iOS 5 update even though the problems didn't occur immediately following that update?  It's impossible to reach Apple for help without shelling out $29, so I hope someone on here has the smarts to solve my problems.  Thanks.

It sounds like you had something using the CPU constantly to drain the battery. And, it's not always apparent except the slowdown and poor battery life. Was the phone warm? That is a sign of heavy CPU usage.
When this happens, just power off/on by sliding the red slider. Do NOT use the "reset". It does nothing more than a normal power off does, and only serves to yank the power without a proper shutdown. It is like pulling the power plug on a running computer. It does *not* reset anything.

iOS 7 has many multiple tasks. You can save battery life to some extent by few steps. First go to location services and bettr 'Off' them which are not needed. (Ex. Notes.. Reminders.. Etc). Also you can off few apps in 'get notifications' centre. Also usage of 3g by any mobile consumes much battery life. Better to connect any Wi-fi

  • IPhone 5s IOS 8.1.1 battery drain using mail

Problem: battery drain is unacceptably high with -1% per five minutes
Description: after upgrading from IOS 7 to 8 the battery drain on my iPhone 5s (32GB) has hugely increased. Several tips on the internet have been tried from turning off several services to reinstalling the IOS none with no improvement. After reinstallation the drain was acceptable only to result in again a -1% drain per five minutes after a week.
Expected: using IOS 7 I could easily use the iPhone throughout the whole day with -1% per fifteen minutes. After installing an improved IOS one would expect similar or lower battery drain
Tests: as said, severals tips found on the internet have been tested none with any improvement. Deleting all accounts under "Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars" proved to be the only solution for this problem (a non-functional solution I must add since I'm using this iPhone for communication...). Even keeping the iCloud account but disabling all iCloud services did not improve the situation, only a real account deletion worked.
Question: do you know how to get battery drain back to -1% per fifteen minutes whilst maintaining my iCloud and Exchange account using IOS 8.1.1 on an iPhone 5s (32GB)?
    Kind regards,
    Ronald

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, my battery has not been the same. I was able to get 9-10 hours of usage before and am lucky to get 6-7 hours. AppleCare thought that was on the low side and told me to visit my local Apple Store for a thorough diagnostic testing of the battery. My appointment is tomorrow. Will report back.

My iPhone 4 with iOS 6 is making me start to hate Apple. Any App and at any time I open and I can not view it or move for more than 2 minutes, they close themselves. During connections, it also gives this problem and the signal disappears after a few seconds back but often the person on the other end has hung up ... I can not stand it anymore, someone suggests something?
Besides these problems, there is the battery, which was bad got worse, she is not lasting more than 10 hours, even without using the phone.
Sometimes it even seems that the problem was solved, but my joy did not last long after I celebrate all the problems return, is incredible ...
    thanks.
    Sorry my bad Inglês.

Try a reset hold home/sleep buttons until Apple logo appears
If that does not improve try a restore

  • IPhone 4s with ios 6 shows full wifi signal but can't access to the internet while other idevice can

    Hi everyone,
I updated my iphone 4s to ios 6 a few months ago and there was no problem until I change my sim card to other carriers last two days.  This second sim card is the same sim card that I used it earlier this year with no problem.  But the problem I face is when my iphone goes to sleep mode I realised that I can't receive any push notification from imessage, Whatsapp, and Line.  When the phone is awake the wifi signal is back and I have to go to each application in order to get the message.  I have tried the following methods but it didn't work: reset all network settings, restore as new iphone, push home and power button together, switch off my iphone, turn on airplane mode, and even change my router.  At the moment I have restored my iphone as new for the 5th times.
Now the problem is worsen, after the phone is sleep for about 5 minutes and when I awake my iphone it shows the wifi signal.  But I can't access to the internet at all.  It shows no working internet on Whatsapp. Safari can't load any web page, the weather app can't update temperature etc.  I have to switch off and switch on wifi in setting menu so that I can use the internet. And when I leave my iphone four about 5 - 10 minuetes then the problem start again. While I can't access to the internet on my iphone 4s, I used my dad's iphone 4s with ios 5.0.1 and it works just fine with the internet. My laptop can also access to the internet with the same wifi network but not my iphone.
Does anybody know what's going on with my iphone 4s? Is it the bug from IOS 6 or my iphone is broken? Please help me.
    Thank you.

Any update will cause problems for a few users. And those users will rush here and post "the sky is falling" stories about their experience. The 99.99% of people who have no problems after an update won't bother to post here; indeed, most of them don't even know ASC exists. FWIW, I had no problems with iOS 7 on my 4S. Your problem is most likely not related to iOS 6, but you should probably update anyway. • I have iphone 6 with ios 8.1.1. The bluetooth pairs with my sony car radio and everything works fine. However, the iphone won't stop searching for other devices.

I have an iPhone 6 with ios 8.1.1 operating system. The Bluetooth pairs with my Sony car radio and works fine. However, the iPhone will not stop searching for other devices. This does not seem to affect anything, but I can't help but think it is using battery power.

    One possibility:
How do you know it is searching for other devices?  Because you opened Settings > Bluetooth?
Why is it searching for other devices? Because you opened Settings > Bluetooth?

  • How to I get itunes radio on my iphone four with ios 7

How to I get itunes radio on my iphone four with ios 7

So I was having the same issue and through guess and check I think I figured out the problem.
Essentially iTunes Radio is only available in the US, hence your phone needs to know you're within the borders of the USA.
I went into Settings > Privacy> Location Services > System Services (at bottom of the screen) and started playing around with some location systems I had turned off to preserve battery life. As soon as I turned on the "Setting time zone" function, iTunes Radio became available again.
It looks like Apple uses that system service to determine location of the phone and thus the availability of iTunes Radio.
You may have to close out the Radio app and restart (or even restart your phone) to make it work but so far so good for me.
    Good luck!

I have an Iphone 4 with IOS 6 and my emails have disappeared.  I also have a very slow reaction time to my touch screen. Help!

    Hello there, parihargs1.
To troubleshoot display brightness issues the following article provides 2 key steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Of note is the following:
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Display does not adjust brightness automatically
The ambient light sensor brightens the display when using the iPhone in brightly lit environments, and dims the display in low light. To test this sensor, do the following:
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case. If there is a protective film on the display, remove the film.
Verify that the Auto-Brightness setting (Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper) is set to ON, and that the Brightness level is set near the middle of the slider.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen and then press the Sleep/Wake button to lock the iPhone.
In a bright environment, cover the top third of the iPhone to block the light, then press the Sleep/Wake button or the Home button to wake the phone. Slide the slider to unlock the phone.
Notice the brightness of the screen and application icons; they should be somewhat dimmed.
Remove the cover from the top of the display and in a few moments the display should get brighter.
If these steps do not resolve your issue please refer to the "Issue not resolved" section for your next step.
Thansk for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1. What is the best way to update my phone to the latest iOS platform?

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1. What is the best way to update my phone to the latest iOS platform?

you can update over the air with strong wireless signal, or by connecting to a computer running iTunes.  Either works well.  If you do the update over the air, be sure and attach your iPhone to a wall outlet so you have a solid power supply and don't risk the battery dying during the update.
The iTunes approach installs a much larger file because of the connection, but if you have not updated since 5.1 that might be a better approach...replace the entire operating system instead of patching.
Either way, backup the iPhone yourself just for your own protection in the off-chance something should go wrong...a little paranoia while updating is a good thing

  • Videos cannot be put in my iPhone 4s with ios 6

Hello.  I have problems in puting my videos (in MP4 format) into my iPhone 4S with ios 6.
Although I can put them in my itunes (in my computer), but I cannot syn them into my iPhone.
Does anyone know what I can do??
    Thanks.

Hi! I don't what's happened for your phone but, you can have more battery life with turning of Wifi, decries brightness, turn off location service and etc. also you shold use less Free+Much Ads apps becuase they use more battery than paid apps normaly.
for more informations about battery normal life see here.
I guess it's not a normal issue. so connect to Apple Care or wait for a better answer...
