Iphone 5s won't work while trying to update to ios 8.0.2

Attempted to update iPhone 5s to 8.0.2 from a version of iOS 7, received an error message (made the mistake of not documenting the error code). Now the device will not turn on past about two seconds of the Apple logo, and the computer will not recognize the device. The device will not enter recovery mode. I have tried restarting iTunes and resetting the Apple Mobile Device service multiple times. Help please, thank you!

Hey eryic,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPhone wont turn on. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Error while trying to update to ios 5

I keep getting an error while trying to update to iOS 5. I update iTunes this morning to the lastest version so I know that isn't the problem. I have tried restarting both my computer and my phone, but contine getting "The iPhone could not be restore. An unknow error occurred (3194)." PLease help! Thanks in advance

I am also getting the error 43 when the update tries to back the phone up. Im using the latest version of itunes. This is on an iphone4, I am in the UK.
I tried deleting all of the historical backups to see if a fresh backup folder helps. It did not.
Ive tried running iTunes in 'administrator' mode on my Windows 7 machine. This made no difference.
Ive tried putting the phone in airplane mode. No difference.
I tried getting it into restore mode just to see if it worked on a iphone4. However it did not seem to want to do it.
Im not not too sure about proceeding with this update as I done want to loose any of the apps I have. (or 3 my 3 stars in every angry birds level on all 3 versions of the game!!)
    Please someone, HELP !! !!

  • Error 3200 while trying to update to iOS 5! Help??

I'm trying to update to iOS 5, and every time it reaches as far as extracting the software and prepping the phone for the update. Then it stops and gives me an error 3200. Any fixes to this?

It worked for me after I disabled the Passcode, turned off WiFi and Cell networks, closed all apps (hit the home button twice and then hold on an app to bring up the close button). After all that power down and power up. Worked for me then.
However it is probably more related to as others have said the sheer volume of hits.

try putting your iphone in DFU mode and then restoring
turn your iphone off make sure it is plugged into the computer and have itunes open then at the same time hold your iphones home and power buttons release the power button after 8 seconds but continue to hold the home button until your iphone shows up in itunes your screen should still be black if logo appears try again

i have no apple store near me and didnt feel comfortable shipping my iphone so i brought it to a iphone/mac specialist store they hooked it up and ran some thing and said the update gave me two basebands whatever that is and somehow they deleted one and then the restore worked

  • IPhone 5s screen is flickering after trying to update to iOS 7.1.2

I have an iPhone 5s about a year old. Today I started an update to iOS 7.1.2. The first issue was that it froze on the white screen with the black logo and the progress bar. For about 30 minutes it was stuck on 50% progress. It was at this point that I unplugged the phone and forced shutdown by holding the lock and the home button simultaneously. When I started it back up I noticed flickering around the edge of the screen. I have found that when I turn the brightness down the flickering goes away but I wanted to know if anyone has had success solving this flickering issue.
    Thanks for reading

    iOS 7.1.2

What you need to do is isolate whether or not this is a Software or Hardware issue.
Plug your device into your computer and hold the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time. after roughly 10 seconds the screen will go black. at this point, release the sleep/wake button but keep holding down the home button. You will get a prompt from your computer in iTunes saying that a phone in Recovery Mode has been detected. Go ahead and restore your device. After the restore completes, your device will be fully updated and have fresh software. This process will determine if the issue is Software or Hardware related. If the issue is still present then it looks like you definitely have a hardware issue.
The good news is, Since the iPhone 5s hasn't even been out for a year yet, you are still covered under Apple's 1 year Limited Warranty. With this being said, if you make a Genius Bar appointment for the Apple Store closest to you, they will be able to help you. iPhone 5s's aren't able to receive display replacements either, so you will actually end up getting a whole new device. (This is all assuming there are no cracks or liquid damage to your device, and if they don't fix the issue in another way, of course)
Regardless, I would probably go down to an Apple Store if possible.
    Best of luck!
    Cheers, Jon

  • Iphone won't work after trying to update

I started to update, got an error message and when I clicked ok to stop the update, I noticed an arrow with a usb icon pointing to an itunes icon on the phone. Can't get rid of it. Tried several times to restart the phone-nothing. Help... Tried restarting itunes etc etc. no help.

Thanks for the info. Any other things to try before using the restore? I hadn't done a sync since I just got home after being with my grandbabies and taking tons of videos and pictures. I'd hate to lose those if there's a way around it.

  • HT4137 Hi, I have encountered a problem while trying to update my iOS. I had plugged in my iPhone to the computer and got a a prompt message to download and update my iOS to 8.0.2, clicked yes and the phone has completely hunged up! Can someone help sort

My iPhone was running on the latest iOS 7.1.2 the latest just before the release of 8.0.2
The phone just went blank on me while the download anf update was running, I can now only see the iTunes emblem and a cable plug in  on the screen as if the download is still running
I tried switchingoff and on and nothing happens, after it switches off, the same items come back to the screen

Thanks Chris for your advice. I have done the restoration from both the device and computer as a new device but it doesn't help. Even I have restored my device to the factory settings with standard apps in it without installing any other additional apps,  the phone heats up & I have to recharge at least 3 times  per day. This is abnormal to me.

  • My apple password is just not working while trying to update my software even after resting it!

    Somebody please help!

    OK, do this:
Boot to your Recovery partition by holding down the Command and R key whilst booting. When you get to the Recovery menu, open Terminal under the Utilities menu item. In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
... a small app will open that will allow you to change the password for the user you select - be certain that you select a user with admin privileges. Type the new password (twice) and give yourself a good 'hint'. Then press OK and reboot your MBP, using your new password for an admin account. Be sure that you use a password that you can remember.
Then you'll be able to do whatever you like.

  • Getting Error (-50) while trying to update to iOS 5.

I'm using an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5. Tried to install iOS 5, but received the following error after about 5 minutes attempting to back up:
An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-50). Would you like to continue to update this iPhone? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone.
Of course, I don't want that. The phone has never had upgrade problems before and it's never been jailbroken. Any ideas? Mac is running 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5. iTunes is set up for encrypted backups. Should that be turned off? It syncs fine.

Figured it out. Seems to be when the MobileSync folder is symlinked to another drive. I have an SSD+HDD in my MacBook Pro and kept my backup data on the HDD. After deleting the symlink and copying the MobileSync folder back to the SSD, it worked. I should have updated this earlier, but the Apple forums were extremely slow for me today.
Please see my thread at MacRumors if you want more detail:

  • My iPhone 3GS won't isn't recognizable after updating to iOS 6.0.1. I have a MacBook and an iMac. Both are also up to date. iPhone 3GS turns on, and charges from wall. Does not get recognized by either computer. Help!

My iPhone 3GS has worked like a charm. I stupidly agreed to do the software update today, and now both of my computers ignore it. Both computers are Mac. Both are updated. This is extremely frustrating, since I need my phone today for work purposes, and since I can't add music to it...it's basically useless. I use it as an MP3 player to play music during wedding Cocktail Hours.
