i resetted my phone because i forgotten my code. now it wont activate, he cant find my wifi network and with itunes it also doesnt work because my sim is locked
what do i have to do to unlock my simcard? so i can use my phone again

look... I start my iphone and and it goes to main LOCK screen where a message is shown, the message is "activation needed" . After I slide to unlock and write my security code it goes directly to the activation page , not to the very begging ,where you should select the lenguage but from the part where you have to chose a wifi connection . I connect to wifi and the activation process starts . On the screen is a message that tells me to wait a couple of minutes . After a couple of minutes there is another message shown on the screen where it tells me that the activation server is unreachable for the moment , please try again later . and this procedure can be repeated a hundred times and the same message will appear . It wont eaven reset . Any ideas wat is rong with it

I had the same problem with mine and found out because i bought it second hand and had it unlocked updating it causes it to go back to being locked again. If you've bought it in the same situation then maybe that's the problem, i got it unlocked really cheap too and now its back to normal and all my messges, apps and pics are back.

I bought my iphone 4 used a year ago, I recently got a new phone and just wanted to use my iphone as an ipod, but now that ive reset it, its saying I cant activate it throu iTunes, and its wifi is broken, how do I activate it so I can just use it as an ipod?

Here are the steps to activate an iPhone:
If your carrier provided a SIM card, make sure it's in your iPhone.
Restart the iPhone.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you can't activate using a cellular data connection.
Restore the iPhone.
Check the system status for iOS Device Activation. If the iOS Device Activation status isn't green, try activating your iPhone later.
If you receive an alert message when you try to activate your iPhone, place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you still can't complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.
If you're asked to enter a password to proceed with activating the iPhone, Activation Lock might be enabled as part of Find my iPhone.

Iphone starts up but with 'no service' and it says it cant be activated because the server cannot be reached. What do i do!?

I have the same problem. I have just erased my iPhone 4S after requesting it be unlocked by my carrier. Now I want to restore from backup and the iPhone has a message
"Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached..."
Maybe its a genuine problem with the activation server???

I tried to update my phone and it came up with an error message, I have since restored to factory settings but now it won't activate.
It just comes up with

Please try again later, or contact customer care.
I've tried this several times through wi-fi and i-tunes connections.
It is an iphone 3gs on the orange network, there is a working sim in the phone.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

I have had my 3gs for about a year now. Has never give me any problems in the past. I updated to the new firmware and have since been unable to activate it. I keep getting messages saying about server being down and try again later? Its locked to Orange and this is what I have always used. Has anyone had this problem? Can I go back to my old firmware?

Yeah its locked to Orange and thats who I am with. It has never been jailbroken from I have owned it but I am not sure about before. I have updated a few times from I have owned it and hav never had any problems.

You contact the carrier it's locked to and see if they will unlock it for you. Activation problems are almost always due to the fact that the phone was hacked to unlock it instead of being legitimately unlocked.
Of course, this can also happen if you're trying to activate it without a SIM in it. You can not activate the phone without a SIM.

That would answer your question. This type of error is generally related to security software blocking the gs.apple.com server, or if the device was jailbroken. As a jailbroken device, you cannot get assistance here, but just to let you know that updating a jailbroken device will lock the device back to the carrier it was originally locked to and will also result in this error.

My Iphone wont activate after the latest update was installed, even when connected to Itunes it just say disconnect and install sim card, even though there is a working sim in the phone, any help would be gratfull.

It sounds a lot like your phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it before you updated.

I could have searched the forum for that answer but can speak from experience. I retired my old 3GS and wiped it, bought a ip5 and ported my number to a new carrier. Part of the wiping of the old phone restored it as new. When I connected it to itunes the setup assistant would only pop up if I put an old sim car in it and then I could activate it
