Closing apps can actually increase battery drain. See: http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain. You can see which apps are using power by going to Settings/General/ Usage - Battery Usage.

  • My iPad is a few years old but my battery is running down very quickly even when not in use? I have about 16% usage still available !

My iPad is a few years old but the battery is running down very quickly, is there anything I can do ?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iphone battery dies very quickly

  • Iphone shuts down after a few minutes of non-use (after 1.1.3 update)

After the update, if I do not use the iphone for a few minutes it basically goes dead and I need to power it on and it reloads the system...I tried to reinstall the update, delete all my data and start fresh...nothing has worked...I really do not know what else to do...it really seems a software issue...
    Any thoughts? Thanks,

i am having the same problem... i turned the auto-lock off so my phone never sleeps and in return it runs my battery down even faster and calls people on accident... even more odd is that the car charger i bought from at&t has alweays worked fine until the 1.1.3 update and it all of the sudden started sayin that this accessory wasn't designed for an iphone and that i should put it in airplane mode so i wouldn't get interference... i have restored several times and nothing helps... i have been all over the net looking for a fix but finally had to call apple and they are sending me a loaner and i have to ship mine back to them for repair... should be here tomorrow (i hope)... beware there is a $30 loaner phone fee... as bad as it sounds i'm glad to hear that i'm not the only one with this problem...

  • Why my iphone battery discharges so quickly

I have two iphones 4 and 4s, battery in iphone 4 lasts much much longer than the  4s what can I do to solve the problem? or is it faulty? my first one was faulty and apple gave me a new one.

After searching at website. It works for me about battery issue.
    1. Go to Settiings / General / Siri / turn off Raise to speak and then reboot.
(A sensor upper the earphone is continuing on even if you turn it off, YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR IPHONE.)
I think that it is the major problem about battery drain.
    2. Go to Settings / Location Services / System Services / Turn off Setting Time Zone
    3. Go to Settings / Notifications / Turn off Calendar or move to Not in Notification Center
(this may be not need but I don't use this function, so I turn it off.)
After a fully charge, Usage 1 hour and Standby 3 Hours, 14 Minutes, Battery less 8% only. Now is 92%
My idea, try to reset all settings first, I like a clean reset all settings and then do 1,2,3.

  • IPhone battery drains incredibly quickly. PLEASE HELP.

My iPhone 4s literally drained the battery from 100% to 1% in less than 5 minutes while it was charging. I turned it off to charge it at least until I could turn it back on, but it has 24 hours since I turned it off and it still won't even turn on. Is there any way I can fix this or do I just assume it is lost?

  • After fully charged, the battery down to zero after 2 days without using it?

Is it normal?  As I have fully charged the ipad and stand it for 2 days without using it,   The battery drops to zero?

    Try a reset:
    1. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds
    2. Until you see the Apple logo (very important)

  • Battery loses 20% overnight on standby

Hello, I just noticed that my iphone battery lost 20% overnight on standby (11pm - 7am) I made sure I had wifi and bluetooth turned off. I only have one gmail push account that fetches every hour. Everything else is at battery optimized settings. I just wanted to know if this battery loss on standby is normal? Thanks!

i find this interesting. I looked at my multitasking and just about every app I had was still open. I closed them all and opened google, left it open and rebooted and it was still open, clearly different from a computer that closes all apps upon rebooting.I use a lot of my apps, and closing them is , honestly a pain on an iphone compared to a computer.
Because it IS NOT a multitasking bar. It is a "Recently Used" bar. The apps in it may or may not be running in background. Usually not, unless they are social networking or streaming apps. and just because they are NOT in the bar does not mean they are not running. For example, Game Center and Mail will continue in background even if you kill them in the recently used bar. This is one of the most misunderstood features of iOS4.
    1) Why would they use up battery just being open? Dont they have to be doing something? Why might rebooting not close apps?
Apps do not use battery just being open. They are suspended (except as I described). This is so they will launch faster when you run them again,
    2) Have you tested battery use overnight with apps on and apps off?
    3) I need an app to close apps... Apps in iphone dont tweak system though?
Nope. No way to close apps from another app, and no need to unless they are one of the rare apps that run in background.

  • Faulty UK USB Power Brick/Wall Charger Drains iPhone Battery

I'm writing this post more from an informative perspective, rather than from a question seeking a response.
I have a genuine Apple UK USB wall charger which is at least 2 years old - it either came with my current iPhone 5 or old iPhone 4 from 4 years ago (both look identical).
Recently on charging my phone overnight, I've woken up (late - as the alarm consequently didn't work) to find that the power had drained from my phone rather than the expected charge happening. Having an old phone, I assumed it was the fault of the phone and booked it in for a genius bar visit. Being annoyed about the 1 week+ delay for the next genius bar appointment, I purchased a new iPhone to use temporarily for a week which would then be returned for a full refund on receipt of a replacement for mine.
On testing out the brand new iPhone with the charger, it appears that the same happens:
On plugging in the new phone to the charger once it has been fully charged (100%), within 5 minutes the charge in the phone has become 97%.
I'm guessing it is quite unusual for a USB brick to fail in this way - to actually drain the phone of charge?

I have the dock connector option for my factory stereo as well and am also seeing it drain the iPhone battery. What's odd is that it used to charge just fine.
Initially the iPhone wouldn't route audio through the dock connector in my vehicle. It would see that it was plugged in and gave the Airplane Mode prompt, but would only play audio from its internal speaker. It did, however, charge as expected. Then the iPhone software update 1.0.1 came out which solved the audio issue and allowed me to get the audio to my deck properly. I can't say for sure if it was still charging the iPhone at that point, but it definitely wasn't /draining/ it. Then, right around the time of the 1.0.2 update I started to notice significant drops in battery power when unplugging it after a drive to or from work (usually around 25 minutes). The audio still works fine, but the battery seems to drop at least 15-20% over that drive, whether I have any music playing or just have the iPhone idle but plugged in.
So, software problem, maybe? I have a hard time believing something suggendly changed with the dock connector in my vehicle...

  • My iPhone 3GS battery is running down too quickly

In the last few days, my iPhone has started running down *very* quickly. I have been running iOS 6.1 for ages without any problems. Could this all of a sudden cause problems like this?
I have disabled mobile data and 3GS and just left the clock, calendar and reminders running, but this has not helped. It was 100% charged when I went to sleep last night, and when I woke up this morning it was down to 20%.
Can anyone advise me on a way to fix this please?

Really... took me all of a minute to find http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802 which reveals:
    Battery life seems short
Note: Charging with a FireWire-based power source is not supported, except on original iPhone.
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning  iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a   computer, don't connect iPhone to   a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

I guess I should have asked for the "definitive" fix. I read several "fixes" but it seems no one knows if Apple has a definitive fix. Kind of like going into an Apple store and getting three different answers from three different reps. At least they are not rude and no, I don't have a problem searching the forum.
