IPhone 6 ios 8.0.2 "This accessory may not be supported"

I know this is a common issue as there are dozens of threads, but after reading more than a dozen I still do not have a solution.
Often, when I plug my brand new (10 days) lightening cord into my brand new (10 days) iPhone 6 to charge, I receive the "This accessory may not be supported" error message. The cord is the one that came with my new iPhone. I am running ios 8.0.2.
I suffered from this debilitating issue with my last phone (iphone 5s) also and consequently ended up having to buy 6 new lightening cords (3 were official and purchased through Apple.com). With the 5s, whenever I bought a new cord it would work for between one day to a few weeks, and then back to the "This accessory may not be supported" error message. I also tried cleaning the port of the 5s with no avail.
It shouldn't be happening to my brand new iPhone 6 (or any iphone for that matter). It's extremely frustrating. Last year while traveling through Central America, this problem was a huge bummer as the 5s (my only internet device) was often dead for days until I could find a place that sold lightening cords or find someone with one to borrow. I cannot believe it's happening again with my brand new iPhone 6! I never had this issue with my Samsung smartphones.
Can someone from Apple please comment on this issue?

There is no Apple here in this user to user technical forum.
If you're getting that message - take the charger to Apple and get a replacement, it is still under warranty.

  • IPhone 4 - Charging issues including "This accessory may not be supported."

So for the past couple of weeks, on and off, my iPhone 4 (2 years old) has been having intermittent charging issues. I have gone through four charging cords, all from Apple, and two charging blocks, both from Apple - none of these change/resolve the issue.
I had an online chat through Apple with someone a week ago, and she suggested resetting my settings only (resetting the entire phone was my husband's idea) - resetting the phone entirely did not resolve the issue, and resetting the settings (and only the settings) works for maybe 1-2 days maximum. Any of the following things happen when plugging in the phone to charge:
    1) The phone charges normally (very rare anymore, happens more often if I reset the settings on the phone first then put everything back the way I want it)
    2) The phone charges for maybe two seconds, then a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported." (8/10 times this happens, can usually get it to charge normally if I unplug and replug a bunch of times)
    3) The phone makes the noise/vibrates like it is charging, but the battery percentage will go down over time. (rare, but does happen)
An Apple store visit is not exactly...possible? I live an hour and a half away from my closest one, and the location is not easy to get to (cross a bridge, pay $13 toll, $13 to get back over to go home, and that's just the way there and back...forget finding the place). I have cleaned out the phone at the charging port more times than I can count. My husband seems to think it is a battery issue...thoughts?

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals.  So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

i have the same problem since i updated it to 7.0.6 . i have i phone 4 .  When i plug my phone in to charge it starts the charge for about 2 seconds and then the message "This accessory may not be supported"  appears and the phone stops charging. It does that every time I try to plug my phone up to charge. Once my phone turns competely off it takes 4-10 hours to turn back on and when it does its only has 4% battery.   i can conect to itunes wen have battery but dont charge!  my charger is an Apple product.  please can help

Answered in the other thread you posted in today reporting the same problem.
There is either a problem with the cable, or there is a problem with the iPhone which can include dirt, lint, or foreign material in the iPhone's connector port and it doesn't take much, or the iPhone's connector port has some damage which can include moisture damage.
If you have access to another cable to try that is known good, do that first.

  • Can't get iPhone 6 to charge. "This accessory may not be supported."

Two days ago I noticed my phone would keep getting this message every time I tried to charge it. "This accessory may not be supported." It's the official Apple cable and adapter. I took that same cable/wall adapter and plugged it into my iPad and it worked fine. Tried restarting the phone, no fix. Earlier I started a chat with Apple Support, they made me restore my phone, and that ended up fixing it... for a couple hours. After coming back home and plugging it back in, the same error message keeps popping up again and now the phone won't charge. I didn't install any new apps or change any settings after restoring the phone. Has anyone else been having this problem? I've made sure the port and the cable are both clean.

Hey thought I'd just follow up real quick with my phone. After messing around with it I discovered the only way I could get it to charge was to plug it in, close the error message, and turn the phone off. While it was off it would charge, just couldn't be on. Brought it to the store after making an appointment and was in and out within 15 minutes with a brand new phone that's been working fine. Must be a hardware issue. Head to the store and they should take care of it for you!

  • Apple iPhone 5 cable saying "this accessory may not be supported"?

Using the Apple Lighting cable I specifically purchased off the Apple site with my Apple iPhone 5 (IOS 8..1.2) so that I would have at least one charge cable that would work with my computer and my phone. But at last I have been mistaken. Everything I plug my phone in with the Apple cable it informs he that "this accessory may not be supported"? Does anyone know a solution to this problem. I know i've emailed Apple about this once before and magically it started working for that night but its yet to wok since with my computer. I know the cable works just fine as I use it ever day to charge my phone with my wall adapter so I know the cable itself must not be the problem.

    Hey A.R.R,
If you are having an issue with an alert saying that the cable is not supported for use with your iPhone, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Specifically -
    If you see an alert
When you plug in your device, you might see one of these alerts:
“This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone.”
“This accessory is not supported by this device.”
If you see one of these alerts, unplug your device try and these steps:
Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris, then reconnect the USB cable.
If you still see an alert, try a different USB cable or charger.

If your device still doesn't charge or you still see an alert after trying the steps above, contact Apple Support.

  • IPhone 5 - "this accessory may not be supported"

I’m having charging issues with my original iPhone 5. I’m getting a message saying “this accessory may not be supported” when you plug your phone in. I am using a new cable/adapter made by apple (not a third party cable), I’ve clean what I could out of the charging port, I have reset my phone, and the battery is totally fine. I’ll leave my phone charging at night and it goes up to 50% if that. My guess is there’s an issue with iOS7. Went to the apple store twice and since my phone was over two years, they couldnt do anything about it. This is my last and only option I guess. Please help!

I have the same problem.  After I upgraded to IOS 7, my iphone 5 keeps giving the message that this accessory may not be supported while I am using the phone's original charger and it stops charging.  it also takes much longer to charge it!  I bought another apple charger thinking there is a problem with my charger cable but I have the same problem!  I am taking my phone to the apple store this weekend!  Charging has become a difficult task now as I can only charge it through a computer!!!  and sometimes even that doesn't work.....

  • My Iphone 4 appears this massage "this accessory may not be supported" and then cannot charging with apple (old & new also) genuine cable

Since updating to iOS 7.0.4 I've getting a prompt "this accessory may not be supported" after a few minutes charging.
Charging then stops and I've unplug the cable and reconnect, then hopefully get another 5 minutes before the message appears again. The phone is pretty much unusable now as I can't get it charged. Only using genuine apple cables (have tried 3 seperate cables) and have tried charging both via the wall and the laptop, but the result is the same.

Yes Doctor9fan. All Accessories are genuine.

Need a solution for this ASAP.

i've been having this issue for some weeks now, and it happens more when it's plugged to the wall charger... i don't have an apple supported cable, and i dont feel like buying one because they are a bit too expensive here; i dont have the original cable because that one broke too. Everything started happening when i updated the iOS, and also when the charger broke (i mean, the plug that goes in the phone separated from the plastic support and the 4 cables can be seen, and one is loose, but i can make it charge, but after a few minutes the same error pops up again). The thing is that sometimes it happens and sometimes no; the other night i connected it and it charged full 100% and in the morning it was still charging, meaning the error didnt pop up, but now for example, i have that error every 5 minutes lets say. Sure i'll have to gather some money and buy a new cable, then i hope it wont happen again...

  • This accessory may not be supported message started a few days ago. Now, I get the message every time I plug in and my phone won't charge!

Three days ago, my iPhone 4 started sporadically displaying this message when I plugged my authentic apple iPhone charger in: "This accessory may not be supported." I was dismissing it, until my battery was nearly dead and I finally realized that when the message would come up the charging would stop.
Somehow, last night, I got it to begin charging on my Macbook and although it stopped a few times, got it back to 95%.
Now, it happens every time I plug it in to charge and it WILL NOT charge.
    Details:
I am using genuine apple chargers. The one that came with my iPhone and the one that came with my iPad.
I am using outlets that work.
I have tried charging on my Macbook and receive the same message.
    I am on IOS 7.1.1
The battery seems to be draining faster than usual.
It seems like when the battery gets low enough (<5%), it will charge again, at least a little bit, without the message popping up?
I tried to make a genius bar appt. but the next one isn't until next Tuesday! Eek. I cannot afford a new phone right now, and I am really hoping there is a way to fix this. If there is anything I can do at home to isolate the problem, or reduce what could end up costing a lot I would greatly appreciate your help.

hi, try all what these guys say, as they make sense (my bet is on a slug of kebab guys ).
you list bits you have tried but don't say if you have tried a new lead?
i'm not being tricky, as an electronics engineer of some 40+ years who repairs consuls, iPhones, iPads etc. i have some experience of what gets overlooked. Some of the cheap after market leads aren't the best quality, and some darn right lethal, likely to catch fire while your asleep. you might have bought of them.
i find it tends only genuine Apple leads lock in, but there might be fakes of them to. either way worth a go. perhaps se if your family or mates have one.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

For Christmas, my older sister got me a portable charger for my iPod. I'm not sure if it was capable with apple products, but it charged my iPod when I used it. My brother came upstairs and took my portable charger from me, so I went to go use my wall charger. The wall charger I have has always worked and it charges my mom's iPhone, so the problem I have isn't my charger. After I plugged my iPod in my charger, a message popped up saying "This accessory may not be supported". I was confused because this never has happened before, so I tried my portable charger after I got the message. The portable charger didn't charge my iPod anymore apparently after I tried my charger. All this happened the day after Christmas, so it's almost been a month without my iPod charging properly. My iPod does charge, but only when I plug it in halfway and am about to turn it all the way off. The only way I get it to charge is when I plug it in real fast as soon as I turn my iPod completely off. I've also restarted my iPod, cleaned out the charging area, asked people at stores that work with technology, and etc, so if someone could help me resolve this problem that would be legit because I use my iPod on a daily basis.

That message is usually due to a bad cable.

  • HT1476 "This accessory may not be supported."

Ever since updating my iPhone 5 with the new iOS 7, this display message pops up while my phone is plugged in to the computer, using the original cable that came with it in the box. Researching this issue only informed me that the new iOS is no longer compatible with generic iPhone chargers. However, mine is the one made by Apple and so there should be absolutely no issues with it. While it is plugged in my phone charges on and off, never consistently charging. It's really irritating and is making charging a very slowgoing process. Does anyone else have any insight on this issue?
While we're at it, I noticed the new iOS 7 kills the battery life much faster than the previous iOS; I don't use my phone too much throughout the day, and it has been dying consistently twice a day. If I don't use it nearly at all, it seems to last only six or so hours.
Thanks in advance for any feedback! Hope not everyone is having these issues!
    Alexis

Lexiphillips - you're not crazy - I have the exact same issue - brand new cable and adapter from the apple store when I got my iPhone 5s, it always says "this device may not be supported" and doesn't charge when connected - and that is true for both of them! And if I unplug my phone, my battery goes from 100% to 50%, with no use at all, in about 4 hours. After some research it appears that ou pretty much have to turn off everything except wi-fi - cellular data, all apps that might use data ever - and then hopefully the battery usage will increase. This is not good. The whole point of cellular data is supposed to be to have and use it - not for it to come with such an enormous penalty.
