Iphone 6 storage
My iphone 6 says storage almost full a few times a day , i have very little apps or anything on the phone it'll go down to 0 space available and about 10-15 mins later it goes back to 2.5 gb or 4.0 gb any idea what is going on or how i can fix this?

It only stores your iPhone/iPad versions on your device, which is amazing. Why would you need anything else? It freed up around 8-10GB of space on my device which is amazing. But how does it work when you use it?
When you email it seems to ask you, when sending what size you want to send like it's always done. It gives you the original 2.4MB version. This works like I'd imagine and when I received the test email the photo was correct. In this case I assume it hits iCloud and sends it from there, not your actual device. (Like it doesn't re-download it to email it). Correct?
When posting to Facebook, does it do this same thing? Or is this something Facebook has to build into their iOS app in an update? Or does it just work? Correct?
When posting to Instagram, does it grab the right version. Obviously the phone optimized version should be fine, but when viewing on a Desktop version of Instagram at instagram.com, will it show the right version?
Sometimes I backup photos using Image Capture on the Mac. If I did that right now, would it only grab the iPhone versions? Obviously I can just test it but it'd be amazing if someone who knows these things could explain all of these use cases.

In closing it's more of how does this work? Does it work? Why wouldn't you want to use this feature if it saved space and made more sense? I guess I just would love some real clarity since not even the blogs are explaining how it works in every application.
In closing part 2. It does seem to work really well, it's just those fringe cases. I just viewed all my photos on https://beta.icloud.com/#photos and they're all there, easy download of the high res, delete, it deletes from my camera roll on my phone, it's amazing, it works, it's magic. Just tell me what issues there are with storing only low res iPhone on my device and if there are none, game on!

I don't know, sorry. It's supposed to work alongside Photos & iCloud, so that photos are stored only once. When it doesn't work you have a couple of options as I see it –
Delete the old backups on iCloud to hopefully start over (I don't like deleting the only backup of anything).
Forget about iCloud backups & use iTunes to backup instead, it might not be suitable if you have no computer etc.
Buy more storage for iCloud.
I don't use iCloud backup, it bemuses me with issues like this, there is no easy way to resolve when it fails.
And one more question while we are at it...can I erase iphoto from my computer now that I have the new Photos app?
That is up to you. If you are happy you do not need it & have a backup of it go ahead & remove it. You can re-download it from the app store if it is already in your Mac App store account. -
My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos? Or will the next time I back up lose all those previously backed up as it is a 'new' set of data?
I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -

Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -

My iphone storage is full and I do not have enough storage for upgrades or to take more photos/videos, download apps, etc. I do have my photos/videos ON for icloud sync but not sure if I can safely delete them from my iphone to make room. And if I can delete them from my phone how do I access them on my icloud? I logged in for the first time and do not see where to access photos/videos?
You can't just store photos on icloud. They can be included as part of a backup or when using photo stream to sync photos from one device to another, but 1) photo stream keeps photos for up to 30 days after which they are deleted from the servers, and 2) never rely on a backup to icloud as a way of storing photos. (When photos are deleted from the device, they are no longer on recent backups, and older backups get deleted in short time.)
When it comes to photos, users should sync them to a computer for archiving. Then they can delete the photos from the device, as the computer will have copies.
Photos in backups on icloud cannot be viewed on icloud.

HT204570 iCloud photo library taking up all available iPhone storage
Recently upgraded from iPhoto to iCloud Photo library. It's great, except that it's now taken up all available storage space on my iPhone and I can't even take additional pictures on it. If I delete any pics from my iPhone (to try and free up space), it deletes them from my library and from all of my other devices (Mac mini, MBP, iPad, etc.). I don't want to get rid of the photos, I just want to remove some from the iPhone so that I can actually use the phone. My iCloud Photo library is rather large, and I pay for additional iCloud storage just to be able to accommodate it, but understandably so, my iPhone storage can't accommodate the full library, and I wouldn't expect it to, either.
I've had a similar problem. For me the best solution is to save the photos to my Mac, and then delete them from my phone. This does not however solve the problem with not wanting them to be gone on other devices. Unfortunately, I do not know of a way to exclude a device from having the photo deleted off of it (Wink*Wink* Apple- iOS 9/OS X 10.11? Cough*Cough*). Anyway as for saving space, for me, if I turn off iCloud photo library and then turn it back on again, it will make a lot of space open up. Note: still not total space. I assume that you have a lot of music/photos/apps or something because I have this problem on my 16 GB iPhone, but I don't see how a 64 Gb iPhone can accidentally run out of room. In conclusion, try turning off iCloud Photo Library on and off again. This is my best solution, and it works for me pretty well. Anyway, I hope this helped.

"iCloud Photo Sharing" and "Optimize iPhone Storage"
Before updating to iOS 8, my wife and I shared the same iCloud account. It was convenient for us to use the same Photostream, so pictures of our kids where always gathered together. But iOS 8 has too many features that make sharing same account troublesome, so we have finally split up (digitally...)
Our question is, if we share albums, will our iPhones also treat the pictures and videos in those albums the same way when it comes to Optimize iPhone Storage as those in camera roll? We have 10000+ pics and videos, so being able to stream those from iCloud instead of local storage would be fantastic...
If that's the case, is there a time or storage limit for how many items we can have as shared? Apple hasn't explained those terms very well, understandable, since these features are still in beta. I would be very grateful if someone out there has more insight on this.I don't see a way to identify the new photos being added to smart album since I shared it last. iTunes' smart playlist allows you to do this easily. But don;t see a way to do it iPhoto.
It is not well supported. You would have to mark the photos you already published in some way, for example add them to a regular album or add a keyword, after you published the photos.
When you add new photos to the smart album, you can add a rule "and has not keyword 'publish'" to find only the new photos that need publishing. -
My (shared) iMessages are taking up almost all my iPhone storage. Is there a way to remove them to free up space on my phone?
Thx - the videos are on my Ipad - that is the problem - they are taking up all the storage and there is no room for anything else. Is there any place I can store them so that I can access them from time to time, but not have they use up all the space on the IPad? Sounds like the cloud is out...

Restore the phone through iTunes and setup as new. Make sure you have everything you need off the phone first because this process will wipe it.
This will free up all available space and you can then start again. -

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
email messages and attachments
Reminders
Calendar entries
Contacts
Text messages
MMS messages and attachments
Genius data
Music cover art
Operating system settings
Safari cache
bookmarks
Game Center status
Music catalog
Probably a few I've missed. There was a problem in an earlier version where deleted MMS messages left behind their attachments, but that has been fixed as of 6.1. The reason that deleting music recovers some Other space is because it delete cover art. But is also screws up your music, which will no longer play correctly.
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 1 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Your Other is so large, however, that there may be corrupt data contained in it (unless you send a lot of MMS messages with large attachments). If this is the case you should restore the phone as New. -
Device Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library fills ipad iphone storage - what happens next?
Quick question, when you select IOS Photo / IiCloud storage (photos are optimised etc) what happens when ipad / iphone storage is full and you now need to add new apps, photos etc? In my case I have 3 * 64gb ipads & 2 * 128 gb iphone but these are all filling up with photos since enabling IOS Photo & iCloud Photo Library (as all of my photos on each device are now copbined on every device as well as the cloud). This has become a problem as when I try to sync my idevice I get the device full warning (and I am assuming I now need to delete apps / videos if I want to sync or make more space for new photos etc). As far as I can tell once you enable IOS Photos and iCloud all photos will upload at original resolution and download at idevice resolution and there is no way to select / control the photos you want to keep on phone (eg if you delete photo on phone it will now delete the original on cloud).
Couple of questions / Suggestions:
- Will IOS Photos on IOS device automatically lower resolution of pics or use thumbnails for old photos that are already in icloud to ensure that there is space on device for new photos, apps videos music etc. Eg will old photos that have already been uploaded in icloud be replaced by new apps videos music etc (not sure that the IOS Sync or iCloud currently does this)
- Is there away to limit control or limit the number of IOS photos that sync to each idevice (eg by starring photos)? I had a look and can not see away to select photos you want to keep or remove (without deleting them on cloud). As per above I am hoping that the IOS sync and icloud systems are smart enough to replace Photos that have already upgraded to cloud with a lower quality / thumbnail to make more more room for new photos and apps (but not clear if this occurs)
- If this is a problem now what happens once the new PHOTOS launches for OS Desktop eg will it add in all our photos from iphoto to the icloud then to the idevice as part of the OS PHOTOS UPGRADE. I have 15-30 gb of photos in IPHOTO that are now backing up to icloud, there needs to be away to only select starred photos or albums or every photo try to download to my iphone (which will kill my storage). There also needs to be away to keep photos on idevice (for those times when you do not have internet and can not download from iCloud to iDevice

If there is no solution then Apple needs to look at this and highlight it as a risk to customers who switch as this is being sold as a way to minimise your device storage but can lead to to customers using up more storage for photos on ipad iphone as a result of switch to IOS PHOTOS &
iCloud Photo LibraryThings are not as dire as they might seem at first glance. My 66GB iPhoto Library became a 40GB iCloud Photo Library (~11K photos, ~300 videos) and only uses 2.2GB on my iPad and 2.4GB on my iPhone. Scaling that experience, a 64GB/128GB iOS device should be able to easily handle a 300GB iPhoto library. My iPad and iPhone are 32GB devices and I expect them to be livable through at least 30-40K of photos.
16GB devices have always been problematic for space even before iCloud Photo Library so I'd expect anybody with a 16GB device and more than a few thousand photos is not going to be able to use iCloud Photo Library with it. They will have to use iCloud Photo Streaming to get photos to iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Photo Sharing or iTunes syncing to get a subset of photos back to the device. Not a great solution but workable. However, it wrecks one of the best features for me which is using my iPad to edit the photos I take on my iPhone.
The part that worries me is the automatic space management routine. The problem it creates is that I might want to add a movie, but there won't be enough space, and my only option will be to reset iCloud Photo Library on the device to get back to all thumbnails on it to see if that gets me the space I need. I've already had to do it a couple of times with iTunes Match and it's not fun. It all depends on how aggressive Photo Library will be in trimming off full-size photos/videos and Apple appears to be leaving it a black box at this point. It would at least be nice to know an estimate of the minimum size so I know how much space I can recapture. -
Why do my photo's take 4gb of my iPhone storage, while I have no photo's?
The past time I continouesly got notifications that my iPhone storage was full. (I've got an iPhone 5, 16 gb, iOS 8.1.2).
So I looked at the usage and saw that 6gb of my storage was used for 'Photo's and camera*'. Which made me decide to delete al of my pictures, so right now I have no pictures left in my photo's app.
After I done this I again looked at the usage and saw that I still am using 4gb for 'Photo's and camera*', so my question is: 'How does it come that I have no pictures, but they still take 4gb of my storage?'

* note: I am Dutch so I translated Photo's and camera literally, it might be called different.If you're talking about iCloud photo library, iPhoto does not support that, and cannot upload photos to it. Also, Apple has not yet provided the ability to upload photos to your iPhoto library by dragging and dropping them to your photos at iCloud.com yet (although it's been reported that they are starting to work with this on their beta site; see http://9to5mac.com/2014/11/06/icloud-photos-beta-upload/).
At the present time, you can only get them to iCloud photo library by adding them to a shared photo stream in iPhoto (see http://help.apple.com/iphoto/mac/9.6/#/phtf7fe6394), then opening the shared album on one of your iOS devices and saving the images to your device (tap Select, tap the images, tap the share icon, then tap Save Image). They should then automatically be added to your iCloud photo library. -

Go to Settings > General > Usage and tap Music (you may need to scroll down in the list). Swipe across "all music" and tap DELETE.
When streaming music from the cloud the Music app caches a temporary copy for later playback. -

There will be discrepancies between the capacity reported by the operating system and the advertising figure because of confusion and inconsistencies related to rounding, units and other mathematical minutiae. See Wikipedia for more on this.
You can expect to lose something like 3GB to 4GB of a 16GB iPhone's storage space, for example, to mathematical inconsistencies, as well as the space taken up by the operating system and other non-deletable installs. Which? ran a test and found that Apple's smartphones are actually among the most frugal in using up storage with initial installs, although you may find it harder to prune iOS than you would with other systems.
While Which? found that a 16GB iPhone 5s offers 12.2GB of true capacity, and a 16GB iPhone 5c allows 12.6GB, we checked a 32GB iPhone and were told it had a capacity of 28.3GB. And our 128GB iPad Air has a true capacity of 114GB. In our table above we have used tested figures as a guide when estimating the true storage available in other devices. -

for the photos: make sure you reboot the device so that the changes are taken into consideration.
For emails: log out of your email account, make sure the emails from that account have been deleted, then log back in, and go to the mall app, but open only the inbox. as long as you don't open your email folders, the phone won't download them. -
My iPhone storage is showing almost 7 gb of emails yet I hv no emails left on my phone. How can I clear this space
I had nearly 600MB of space taken by emails. I have 3 accounts. What I did was delete my main account, them reinstall it. The result was that my emails went down to just under 60MB, which I presume is the space taken by me less used accounts. Even though my reinstalled email account reloaded a couple of hundred emails, the space used was as stated above.

I've searched but this is really strange. My iPhone storage is continuously filling up. I get a message stating it's almost full and when I look at my Usage under General Settings it says 0 free of 13.3GB. Now, looking at usage the numbers only add up to 4GB. If I restart the phone it says I have 8.4GB free but will continue to fill up until it's back to 0 even though I'm not doing anything.
Any ideas?Well I've factory reset my phone twice and didn't restore from a backup either time. First time I installed all my apps, got everything configured and it happened again. Second time I did a full reset and DID NOT install any apps. I simply turned on iTunes Match and it did the same thing.
